LOCKDOWN

Summary:

Blue lock Infection! AU

The year is 2087.

After World War 3 tore the world apart in the 2050s, Japan was left broken and desperate for money.

One of the country’s last-ditch efforts came from a maybe-genius, maybe-insane man who saw something no one else did. Young athletes with the potential to drag Japan out of poverty.

That was all the government needed to fund Project Blue Lock and hoped these young men could carry the weight of a dying nation.

Even as a new and dangerous virus begins to spread..

Notes:

(I cringed)
This is my first fic everr. So please be nice to me lmao This is also inspired by other people who worked on this AU. Also, go read Dead Man's Corner by Bachirasleftfoot because it's AMAZING and a huge inspiration

Chapter Text

Jinpachi Ego was anything but your average 30-year-old man. The "diamonds in the rough" knew that by now. He never seemed to sleep, only ate the same thing every day and locked himself up in his room, fenced in by flashing screens and holograms.
And to nobody's surprise, they all thought he was pretty damn weird.
Yet, they were caught off guard when it happened, anyone would be. seeing their coach lying face down, slumped over his keyboard
Was he…asleep?
Isagi wanted to vomit at the thought that he would wake up
His eyes subconsciously searched the room for answers, glancing at everyone's stone-faced, pale expressions.
And, who wouldn’t have that look on their face? They just saw a dead body after all.

Or at least something that looked like one.

His eyes finally meet Hiori at the back of the room. dark blue meets cyan, fogged up by his almost deceptive innocence.
There's something off, his face was twisted with amusement.
Hiori was shaking, but in a fit of laughter

Isagi stormed over, carrying his serious demeanour that weighed everyone down
“Hiori, what are you laughing about!? Is this some sort of prank??” he demanded Hiori was quick to respond, making it even easier to believe he was a liar or some sort of lunatic.
“Look at your faces,” He choked out. “You really think there's anything we can do now? Here's a life lesson, Isagi.” he raised his arm, gesturing to the unconscious man's face on-screen.
“Look at him, his face looks almost…red-ish purple, right?”
Isagi couldn't do anything but nod along, as the people around him began to listen in on his lecture
“That means the blood has sorta…’sunk down’ to his face. And Ego has been dead for days now”
They were silenced by confusion, but the lack of noise was short-lived.

A voice rose up, the face hidden by the group.
“This doesn’t make any sense. He must've been operating the building, so why does he look like that..??”
Isagi was quickly dragged back into reality as he watched five figures make their way to the exit, the master strikers.
He heard that they were given keycards to leave the facility whenever they wanted
It only made sense, they were adults after all.
But something wasn’t adding up, Loki wasn’t given a keycard.
Still, he tagged along behind Snuffy, who seemed eager to help Loki just…walk out. It was an emergency, but were they just gonna leave us here?
Everyone started to scatter out around the building, scrambling in different directions.
Reo grabbed Nagi and dragged him to ‘claim’ a room for them to stay in, and Chigiri followed. But hesitated.
The redhead kept gazing over at Kunigami,
Who walked alone, no one dared to approach him.
Though caught up in the commotion, Isagi had spaced out.
“Hey! Isagi!” Bachira was swinging on the door frame of a training room
“C’mere!” Bachira called him over
Isagi quickly jogged over to him, but felt someone tug at the back of his sleeve
“Isagi, I don't wanna be alone, I don’t wanna..” Kurona trailed off, letting go of his sleeve, but still stared up at him expectantly
“O-oh! Right! You can come with us, right Bachira?”
“Of course! We have room for another roomie!~” He sang
The three sat around the room, Isagi stared off into space
“So. the masters…they're gonna get help, right?” Isagi stammered, but Bachira shined a comforting smile his way.
“I’m sure they will!” He chimed
“But, what's going on with Ego? Is he dead?”
“O-oh, uhm- probably…” Bachira smile faded, he trailed off into silence
That's strange, Bachira never goes quiet like this…He knows what happened, or at least has some idea what’s going on with Ego.

Isagi kept opening his mouth to say something, but they were all too awkward to speak, his head felt like it might burst at the seams, splitting with so many questions, and he knew that Bachira had an answer to at least one of them.
“Everything alright, Bachira?” Isagi finally questioned.
Kurona was still watching the interaction, as if Bachira would tell them everything if he glared hard enough.
“Isagi, can I talk with you, real quick?” Bachira stood up
“uh- sure..!”

the redhead watched them walk to the door, still sitting in the awkward silence they’d left behind.

Chapter Text

Reo couldn’t lounge around, it seemed physically impossible after scrapping with other groups and rogue players, just to get a room that could fit three people.
He sat on the end of a makeshift bed, sinking into the pillows.
The room was silent. no noise of Nagi’s phone, no sound of Chigiri’s hair dryer
A light knocking sound cut through the silence, accompanied by the soft voice, calling them over, “Uh- anyone in there?” They both paused. Reo instinctively stood up to answer it, but was quick to second-guess, still squatting just above the mountain of pillows he’d collected. Chigiri started to respond slowly, “Yes..?” He shot Reo a questioning look as they both gravitated towards the door. The boy’s voice was light and harmless, he couldn’t hurt us, even if he wanted to.
“It’s me, Niko!”
It was that kid with the bangs…! Why’s he here?
the door cracked open.
“Niko?” Chigiri repeated his name like it was a question, “What are you doing here?”
Niko squinted, his dark hair brushing his eyelashes as he mentally checked the names “Reo” and “Chigiri” off his list
“I’m going door-to-door,” He held up his notepad, “Asking if you guys have any information about the virus.”
They both paused, realisation hit them like a truck. Virus means infectious. And they’re stuck in here
“-Virus, what virus?” Reo furrowed his brows
“Didn’t you see what happened to Ego?” Niko asked
“Wait, why didn’t someone call for help? like, the masters..?”
“Well, they tried-” Chigiri cut him off, “So much for trying, it’s been hours, Niko!”
Reo shouted, “Exactly! And how’d you find out there’s a ‘virus’ anyway? any proof to back that up?”
Niko stepped inside their little ‘base camp’ and leaned against the wall. “I was getting to that,”
He started, “You know that pink-haired lady? Who manages Blue Lock with Ego?” Chigiri and Reo shared a glance, and collectively agreed “Yeah, Anri.”
“She must’ve heard about this ‘virus’ and fled the building.” He explained
“That little-” Niko held a finger up to Reo’s mouth to shush him, “To get a cure.”
“A cure…” Chigiri echoed, “Well, where is she now! on her way?”
“Sh-she was…but when she got to the exit, the masters were there. All infected.”
“No way, all of them?” Reo’s eyebrows shot up in surprise
“Well, No.” He admitted, “One of them survived. Loki.”
“Loki!? That know-it-all just sits around, scribbling in his notepad and looking smart.”
Niko winced “…Ouch.” He gripped his notepad to his chest.
“No offence, Niko-” Reo muttered
“The virus…it turned them aggressive”
“From what Loki said, its changed them, it... mutated them. So they attacked Anri and…”
“…And what?” Chigiri questioned
“That’s all I know. Loki’s the only one whos seen one up close, now he’s being questioned by Isagi and the others.”
“The others? Who’s ‘the others’?”
“Isagi grouped up some people, they’re trying to figure out how to get out of here.” Niko drifted back towards the door, “I thought Nagi told you? he’s there.”
“What the hell? Reo, you told me Nagi left to shower!”
“That’s what he told me! Don't blame this on me!” Reo argued
“Oh? then I’ll blame it on Nagi! but you wouldn’t let me, would you?”
Reo was silenced. That’s when they both noticed Niko trying to get their attention. “Arguing isn’t helping anyone! I’ll take you back to Isagi’s group as long as you promise not to fight, okay?”
Niko led them down the hall to Isagi’s group, lowering his voice as they passed nearby players.
They approached the room, seeing the sliding door was barricaded, but Niko lifted his arm to knock lightly. “Isagi, I got some recruits..!”
Reo snorted at the label ‘recruits’ but Chigiri stomped on his foot and mouthed “Be nice”
“Isagi, it’s me! Let me in!” Chigiri whined, just as the sliding door reluctantly hissed open.
Familiar eyes greeted reo at the entrance, “so…Where’s Nagi?” He looked over at Isagi
“Nagi’s in the other room with some of the people I grouped up,” Isagi said, the door slid closed behind them as Reo and Chigiri stepped inside.

The moment they entered, they were hit by a wave of noise that felt like a kick in the face.
“I was gone for five minutes!” Isagi tried to calm everyone down while they shouted over each other.
“Alright, alright! One at a time…!” Yukimiya shushed, quieting everyone in an instant. It made Isagi feel a bit stupid, but he was grateful nonetheless.
Chigiri glanced around the room. Hiori sat curled up in a far corner with Karasu and Otoya, his head resting on his knees. On the other side, Isagi stood by the doorway with his own group. Bachira looked pale—like he was about to pass out or throw up, but forced his usual grin anyway. Kurona twisted his braided hair while simultaneously forgetting which way to cross his legs. Yukimiya, who was probably grouped with Otoya and Karasu, was still holding the room together.

“Seems like everyone’s sticking to their groups..”
Chigiri sat down next to Reo, who was still telling off Nagi for not telling them where he was,
“But Reoo…Explaining things is such a hassle, I figured you’d find out soon enough.”
“We should’ve known better anyway, Nagi doesn’t shower.” Chigiri snapped
“Ha! Good one..” Karasu cackled from across the room. He didn’t take things nearly as seriously as his group. or anyone, for that matter of fact. Except maybe Shidou and Charles, who kept talking after Isagi cleared his throat with the “ahem” sound, about three times.
“If you guys didn’t know, the power in the whole building is scheduled to be shut off. Tonight!”

Those who weren’t listening sure are now.

"The power..." Chigiri repeated in a hushed voice, "That means, the lights would go out, the showers would run cold..and the doors..."
"And the bathrooms." Added Shidou, just to make Charles crack up again like it was the funniest thing since Italian brainrot
"B-But like, dude- just picture it-" Charles wheezed
Loki treated them both to a smack on the head before adding something useful this time. "The translator earbuds."
Shidou and Charles' jaws dropped, clearly not happy about the news.
"Oh, right. Loki," Yukimiya added, "You saw the infected people up close, right?"
"What happened?"

Chapter Text

Chris almost knocked us all over, fumbling for his keys

Noa didn’t even stop to lecture him, he just kept mumbling through gritted teeth, throwing words like “infected” around. I tried to look understanding, but the guy’s hard to read.

“Ah, Snuffy, you’re sure I can borrow your keycard?” I asked, mainly to distract myself

He’d just smile, tell me it was all right.

Who knew how cramped the halls were with four grown men in panicked silence, and me, of course

Several elbows to the face later, we finally made it to the exit. Noa scanned his keycard, but..

We didn’t even manage to get out. Something else got in.

“Who!?” Niko asked as they all leaned in, invested,

“Couldn’t tell, it barely looked like it had ever been human. Its shoulder blades snapped out of its skin, eyelids stretched and ripped—”

“Ew, ew ewgh.” Chigiri gagged

Shidou snapped his finger into a point, “So that’s what ‘infected’ the masters!”

“What was that? Why’d you put air-quotes around infected?”

“Well, I’m not believing this whole virus thing until I’ve seen it. And the cure too.”

Isagi sighed and pressed his temples at how stubborn Shidou was, how vague Loki’s story was, how Bachira had ‘forgotten” what he wanted to tell him, what a copout.

“No,” Loki continued, “That’s not why the masters got infected.”

I watched Noa jump back and shout as the thing ran right past him

Looking back on it, it’s probably the yelling that got Ego’s attention.

Ego must’ve been overheating in that office too.

“Overheating?”

“Well yes, considering his face was melted into his keyboard. Pieces of wire sticking out of his head”

Loki paused when he noticed the group wince at his brutal description

“Enough detail? Sorry..” He continued nonetheless,

I watched what I could only assume was Ego pulling his jaw open to tear into Noa’s arm.

Then Noa did the same thing to Lavinho not long after, but Lavinho. There was something different about him.

He started foaming at the mouth, twitching all sporadic-like before running off in the same direction as the seven-foot-tall freak.

“I’m sorry, seven-foot-tall who?” Reo shook his head in disbelief

“Ah, the first one? with the broken shoulders.”

“Was seven feet tall!?”

“Anyway-”

—cornered by Ego, with Lavinho and the other thing near, it was over.

My speed was useless with nowhere to run, then he jumped in.

Snuffy, standing in my blind spot, dripping with blood that was supposed to be mine.

Niko had stopped jotting down what Loki said in his notebook, struggling to see through the tears that fogged his limited vision

“So… that’s what happened to Snuffy?”

“Yes, and i simply… ran off.”

Almost tripping over Chris’ body, that’s when I noticed he wasn’t infected, or even dead.

He’d passed out from the shock, dragging him would slow me down, draw attention to myself.

So I left him.

“So, you’re telling me there are four zombie-people just wandering around the building, but it’s okay because you left them a little snack, and your story isn’t even over?”

“If its seeing me dead you desire, complain to Snuffy. He cared enough to keep me alive.”

“Tch, Snuffy didn’t care. He’s a coward like the rest of us.” Rin shot back

“A coward? he jumped in front of me, did he not?”

“Because he was scared. The only reason someone would ‘trade their life for yours’ is because you’re the last person they’d want infected. how would we outrun you?”

“ah…of course,” Loki looked down and tried to chuckle at the realisation

They didn’t care about him, they cared about his speed. It’s always been that way, even in soccer. He shouldn’t be surprised.

“Well? tell them what happened next.” Isagi asked, even though he’d already heard it before when he was ‘interrogating’ Loki,

“Yes, moving on,”

I stumbled back to the main building, away from the exit. That’s when i noticed something odd, outside Ego’s office there was-

“—another body!” Isagi interrupted,

“…”

“Sorry, continue.”

As I walked closer, I realised the body wasn’t a striker, it was-

“Anri!-”

“—Will you stop interrupting me?”

Isagi covered his own mouth, “yeah.. continue”

I realised that Anri must’ve left the building, and the seven-foot monster must’ve followed her back inside.

Then it hit me. This is where Lavinho went.

I got out of there as fast as I could, but I’d already realised she was-

“—holding something!”

“Isagi. Go stand outside.”

He awkwardly shuffled to the exit as Loki sighed,

What she was holding was a small black briefcase. It was open, and inside were 6 small vials; one was smashed against the floor, but the other five were in perfect condition.

“Okay, but how’d you know it was a ‘cure’…?” Karasu leaned back against the wall, narrowing his eyes skeptically

“Remember the first mutant person? it was licking the liquid from the vials off the floor.”

“Whoa, the seven-foot freak? Did it cure him?” Charles’ eyes were gleaming as if this were a game to him; clearly, the reality hadn’t set in yet.

“Yes, wait— no, …mostly?”

“Just tell us! did it? Or did it not cure him?” Reo was getting impatient, skeptical, and, most of all, confused.

“I don’t know, I’m telling you, I ran away!” Loki snapped

“Alright, alright, fighting isn’t helping anyone,” Yukimiya assured, placing a hand on both Loki and Reo’s shoulders and guiding them to sit back down.

“I’m lettin’ Isagi back in, he’ll know what to do,” Hiori stepped over people sitting across the floor

Karasu argued, “And if he doesn’t?”

“Well, he’s gotta have a better idea than us, we’re sittin’ ducks without him.”

Karasu just huffed in response as the lights flickered when Isagi walked back in,

“That can’t be good..” someone in the group mumbled,

“So puzzle boy, what’s the game plan?” Shidou taunted, just as Isagi walked in

Charles parroted, “Yeah, puzzle boy!”

“The ‘game plan’ is that we get into Ego’s office, unlock the doors, and get the hell out of here.”

“What? But the vials—”

The lights flickered again, cutting Chigiri off. “Incase you haven’t noticed, we don’t have time.”

“Can’t I atleast wash my hair before the generator gives out?” he whined,

“Fine, go shower with the seven-foot-tall piss demon.”

The air-vents hissed overhead, cutting out slowly,

“The hell..?” Karasu muttered along with hushed curses scattered across the group

Loki subconsciously pulled his teammates away from the door. Rin slapped his hand away but Charles hid between Shidou and Loki.

“This is freakin’ me out.. Stick together, guys,” Hiori pushed himself off the ground, still staying low

A second couldn’t even pass until everything died at once.

The fans froze, lights snapping out like time stopped

“No…we can’t be out of time..Right?”

Chapter Text

Bachira flew to his feet, scrambling for the door,

“Bachira!?”

“I’m sorry, Isagi, I gotta go—”

His eyes adjusted to the dark as he tried to follow his friend out the door and down the halls

“Bachira, wait!”

He could hear him getting further away, doors randomly opened and closed due to the automatic sensors being thrown off,

Everything in Blue Lock was controlled by power, without it, the building was a lifeless shell

His eyes adjusted as Bachira disappeared around a corner of the hallways,

“Bachira, Why? —What’s happening!?”

The clambering and footsteps paused

“It’s me, Isagi- It’s my fault.”

“..What? What’s your fault..?”

“Ego, Anri, the masters, and the virus. --I have the virus.”

“What are you talking about? Stop- Stop saying that!”

“I don’t wanna hurt you, Isagi.”

His voice broke on the last words, as the footsteps resumed

Isagi knew he couldn’t chase after them this time

He reluctantly dragged himself back to the colourless room, panicked noise crept from every corner

Most were breaking down, while others were still paralysed in shock

“Get up.” Isagi’s command rang out like a bullet through the overlapping voices

“Everyone, get up! We’ve gotta get Bachira back.”

“Hell no. No way.” Karasu retreated further back into the corner

“He’ll get mauled out there. We can’t leave him!”

“It was his choice to run. We can’t risk losing more than we already have.” Yukimiya stepped back, landing at Karasu’s side

“Yukimiya…? No. I can't leave him.”

“I’ll go.”

Chigiri stood up, still tearing up despite his attempts to stand stronger than he felt

Yukimiya hesitated, “..Idiots.” He rose to his feet, “If you’re really going, I’ll cover you. Just don’t expect me to drag your bodies back.”

They stepped forward, but a hand grabbed Isagi’s arm from behind

“—Wait, I’m coming too.”

“Nagi, You can’t!” Reo tried to pull him back, but he threw him off

“I will.”

“You wouldn’t risk your life just because you feel guilty, Nagi, You wouldn’t!”

“This isn’t about me, it's about Bachira.” Nagi’s jaw tightened, knowing it was a suicide mission at best. It couldn’t bother him

Isagi took a second to search their faces, “Alright.”

“Let's get Bachira.”

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Summary:

This one took a while, hope you didn't wait long!

Chapter Text

It didn’t matter how fast Chigiri was, he still tagged behind the group, pulled back by fear

“You’re sure he went this way?” He asked to reassure himself

“Positive.” Isagi was speed walking, so he didn’t notice how the distance between him and the others stretched with every step.

“—Stop!” Kurona snapped,

“What is it now?” Isagi asked, without a second to waste “We don’t have time for— ”

“The walls, these are scratch marks marks.”

“Oh god.. Those are deep. Too deep.” Reo tried grabbing Nagi and Chigiri, but he only managed to catch the redhead before Nagi slipped away from his grasp

“That shouldn’t even be possible. Imagine what it could do to us!”

“I’m staying.” Nagi was blunt as usual, though still distracted, feeling the grooves in the wall, left by whatever came before them.

“Reo, you can go back if you want.” Yukimiyas soft tone wavered

“No, I have to stay with Nagi.. But—”

“Get moving then,” Isagi commanded as he returned to his pace, driving deeper into the dark

The hallway seemed endless until the back wall came into sight, along with the door, painted with angry scratch marks

“...this is it.”

Isagi didn’t hesitate to rip open the door, “Bachira, what’s going on? Tell us something, anything!”

Seconds upon entering, Chigiri smacked into what he thought was a wall. He grimaced at the touch, clammy, damp like a wet towel.

“What the fu—” he clutched his hand before wiping it onto his shirt

“What’s that smell?” Reo gagged,

Chigiri tilted his head, concerned, “What smell? My nose is blocked. Tell me it’s not rust.”

“That’s not rust. It’s.. It’s blood.”

Nagi stepped forward, extending his hand “Veins, why would it have veins?”

Isagi stuttered at the absurdity of the question, “Don’t ask me, why is any of this happening!”

“—Why would it have veins unless it's alive?” he specified,

“He’s gotta be in there.” Isagi’s shoulders dropped, his face drawing pale

“We’ve gotta… We’ve gotta get him out.”

*“Don’t move.”* A low voice commanded from behind them, or beside them? it was too dark to tell

“No way, Kunigami, tell me that’s you!” Chigiri spun around, only to find himself staring down the tip of a knife, his friend glaring from the other end.

His smile dropped “Kuni...—” He lowered the knife quickly, the sound of elastic snapping filled the silence

“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you like that. I’m not using this on you.”

“Then, who do you plan on using it on?” Yukimiya pulled Kurona back, standing ahead of the group

“That.” Kunigami raised the knife, pointing at what Chigiri had bumped into

“I’m gonna shoot it, now hold still.”

“You wouldn’t, Bachira’s in there!” Isagi tried to rush forward and block his view

“Bachira…? Bachira’s in there, what’s going on?”

“I have a few questions first.” Reo started,

Kunigami lowered the blade, the elastic still snapping into place

Reo squinted, trying to make out what was in the figure's hands. “Wait… what even is that you’re holding?”

“It doesn’t look like one of ours ours,” Kurona added, pulling Yukimiya’s arm tighter around his shoulder.

Kunigami glanced down at the weapon, then back up

“That’s an elastic band. Where did you get it?” Chigiri took a hesitant step forward.

Kunigami’s jaw tightened. “Does it matter?”

“Yes, it matters. What is that thing?” Yukimiya stared down at the arc-shaped object

“I stole a steak knife from the cafeteria. And one of your exercise bands. I chucked them together with some other scraps and…” Kunigami trailed off, but Chigiri cut in again

“You made a crossbow?”

“For self-defence, now tell me what’s happening with Bachira!”

“He’s infected.” Nagi hissed

“Infected..?”

“just look at him,” Nagi spoke again through the sounds of cracking from where “Bachira” was

“What do you mean, infected. Infected with what?” Kunigami's grip on his make-shift weapon tightened, his brows knitted together

“Oh no, God no..” Yukimiya looked around, realising someone had to tell him

“The virus? Didn’t anyone tell you?” Reo’s casual tone faltered,

“Virus..?”

“C’mon, I’ll explain it to you on the way back.” Chigiri reached out to grab his arm

“Wait, you’re taking him back to the others? Why?” Isagi cracked with concern, but Chigiri stepped up to whisper in his ear,

“If Kunigami shoots this thing, Bachira’s gone, right?” his eyes kept darting back to Kunigami, observing him like some dangerous animal

Isagi nodded, “Guess so.. bring him back to the others, they’ll explain while we…”

Chigiri pat his shoulder, trying not to look at what might be their friend dangling by vein-like threads

“…Try to get him out” Isagi let out a shaky breath

“Let’s go then, Chigiri.” Kunigami pulled his sleeve lightly before letting go

“I-I mean- if we’re going, we should probably do that now,” Kunigami stuttered, his hand flying back to his side before creeping up the back of his neck

“Good call, I don’t think i need to see what happens next,” Chigiri agreed, but for a second, he didn’t budge, just looking at the cocoon-like shape as it sputtered like a drowned lung

Once he snapped out of it, he led Kunigami back, disappearing down the corridor

“That leaves Reo, Yukimiya, me, Isagi, Kurona and Reo.” Nagi sighed,

Kurona paused, “Hold on, that can’t be right right—”

“Shut up,” Isagi tuned them out, his eyes squeezed shut, “I’m trying to figure out how to get Bachira out of that thing.”

His hand reached forward, almost brushing against the lumpy surface in front of him

“Wait, stop-” Reo spoke up

“Isagi, what if that thing is Bachira..”

Isagi didn’t hesitate, he started to dig his fingernails into the surface

“Isagi, listen-” Reo tried to yank Isagi backwards, but missed completely, only drive his hand into the flesh

“Aack!! fuck!—” Reo’s voice cracked mid-shriek, he stumbled backwards, crashing into Nagi

“Reo!?” Nagi grabbed him, inspecting the hand

“That looks bad bad, quick, go back to the others..!” Kurona guided Reo to the door, and he sped off down the hall

Isagi stepped back, the cocoon was leaking acid like a failed science experiment

“What do we do..? Isagi?” Yukimiya considered running, ditching the whole escape

“What can we do? nothing.” Isagi’s voice broke as the last of his strength was ripped away, and his quiet sobs filled the silence

“It’s hopeless.. I’ll never get you back.” He croaked,

“Bachira, I’m sorry.”
