Chapter 1: In the cave

Chapter Text

A big group of soldiers was separated from the others, led by the strategist who had left behind with them. They were still on their way to the pass, as the general had ordered. Some men were thinking about giving up; others clung to little objects like jewelry or random trinkets that their wives, fiances, or parents had given them so they wouldn’t forget what they were fighting for.

The strategist himself had something to hold onto: a hair comb. A green hair comb with a white magnolia flower on top. His wife was 6 months pregnant when he left, and no news had reached him about her since. He was scared that when labor began, she would suffer as she had already done twice before. This time, he felt they would finally become parents. Maybe it was the absurdity of the situation, or just a gut feeling—whatever it was, he felt it strongly.

The wind picked up, dark clouds rolled in above them, and a storm began to form. He realized something: they couldn’t move forward if he wanted the men to survive until they reached the pass. As the rain started to fall, they frantically searched for cover. Eventually, they found shelter in a dead-end cave on the side of a nearby mountain.

While they were settling in and the strategist was counting the soldiers, a young boy—no older than sixteen—screamed in fear and surprise. Everyone turned toward him and froze.

The boy was backing away from a tall, muscular man with medium length black hair he was the leader and the khan of the Hun army: Taimoor. You could guess it was him and no one else because of his black sclerae. His eyes, glowing amber, gave him an even more frightening appearance. He didn’t attack the boy; he just stared at him, then looked up at the others. His eyes settled on the strategist whom stood infront of the group.

„Who led you here?” he asked in a tired voice.

After a few moments of tense silence, the strategist responded.
„That would be me...” he said.

Taimoor raised an eyebrow at the noticeably older soldier, who wore no general’s armor, only a regular one.
„You’re not the general, are you?” he asked, slowly stepping closer.

„No, I’m not. But I led them so, in this case, I am the self-proclaimed leader!” the strategist answered, straightening his back despite the pain.

When they had been separated from the army, they’d been attacked by a rogue group. The strategist had been injured in the leg, resulting in nerve damage. Because they had to keep moving and were far from any village, he now walked with a limp and pain. With the chance of the limp staying permanently.

The khan looked him up and down and sighed tiredly.
„What’s your name, self-proclaimed leader?” he asked, clearly amused by the phrase.
„Hua Zhou… sir,” he replied, uncertain how to address the man.

He knew enough to recognize that among his people, Taimoor was called ’khan’, but to him, he was the enemy—now standing just a few steps away.

Zhou looked into Taimoor’s amber eyes. He feared for himself, but even more for the soldiers behind him.

„What’s your actual position, Hua Zhou?” the khan asked, leaning in.
„I’m the army’s strategist, sir. And for the past two months, the general’s second hand...” Zhou said in a noticeably quieter voice, sparking Taimoor’s interest.

„Well, I can see how much the general values his second hand and his soldiers~,” Taimoor said mockingly.

„Look, I’m willing to make a deal. Just let my men live and let us go!” Zhou blurted, surprising even himself.

He had nothing valueable to offer. No knowledge of the others' whereabouts, no food. They only had their swords and armor. The only thing he could think about was the hair comb—but what use would that be? Unless Taimoor had a wife who might like it? Or a sibling, maybe his mother if she was still alive.

Taimoor opened his mouth to keep the conversation going, but a soldier interrupted him.
„SIR! SIR!” a soilder shouted, running in with a scroll in his hand.

„A messenger *huff* was attacked in the field," the soldier said, out of breath and soaking wet. "He died *huff * from his injuries, *huff* probably got lost too *huff* but before he passed, *huff* he said this was for you.”

He handed the scroll to Zhou, who unrolled it and read the message. Taimoor stepped closer, peeking over his shoulder.

For a moment, Zhou forgot where he was and who stood near him, exclaiming in surprise:
„I have a daughter…”

He was overwhelmed with happiness—he and his wife had finally become parents. Their dream had come true, and both mother and child were safe and healthy. But his joy wasn’t long lived.

An idea sparked in the khan’s head. He had a son, whom just entered his eight year. A bit older than the newborn, but once the girl reached eight-teen or twenty, it wouldn't matter to anymore. He wasn’t a monster—he wouldn’t take the child, he had enough trouble with his own—but he could turn the deal somewhere favorable to him with this.

„Congratulations, papa. Now, about our deal...” he said, scratching his beard.

„To be honest... I have nothing to offer you,” Zhou admitted. „I said that out of fear for my men. Maybe this hair comb, if you have a wife or female family member—„ he showed it to him.

Taimoor examined it. A bit surprised that Zhou would think about his family even now, but he had already made up his mind.
„Nice thing, though neither my wife nor my sister cares for these things...”He handed it back and smiled. "But..have a son at home...”

Zhou’s blood ran cold in reaction. He frantically searched his mind for something else to offer.
„W-Wait..! You can’t… she…SHE JUST BORN!” he shouted. Taimoor was taken aback a bit by this reaction. While they spoke, other Huns had crept behind Zhou’s men, ready to attack if he wasted more time.

„I won’t take her from you,” Taimoor said. „I’m not a monster, and I have enough on my plate with my boy. Instead  I offer you a deal.”

Seeing the defeated look on his face, the Hun laid out the terms:
„You keep your daughter. However, when she turns ten, I will send someone to teach her our language. There are a few Chinese speaking people among us. Some even pass for one”

He paused, letting Zhou absorb the information.

„What else?” Zhou asked, sensing more was coming.

„And when she’s eighteen or twenty, —depending on how fast she learns—she will come live with us. So she could be my son’s wife.”

He said it with a wide grin, enjoying the power play.

„What if your son finds another woman?” Zhou asked, not wanting his daughter to be one in the line of wifes. He wanted her husband to be loyal to her and no other.

„The deal still stands. But if he inherits anything from me, he won’t find another, I assure you. I, too, had to be forced to take a wife,” Taimoor chuckled.

Zhou didn’t find it funny. He was still thinking about his daughter—whom he ust got but now had to give up, or face death with the sons and husbands whom stood with him.

He wanted his daughter to have both parents. He wanted her to have something he never really had—a father who could watch her grow.

So he made the hardest decision a parent ever could in their life.

He reached out for Taimoor’s hand and said:
„Deal. In exchange, you’ll leave China and let us return—with evidence of your ‘defeat’.”

Taimoor looked at him suspiciously, then glanced back at his own soldiers, they were tired and wanted to go home too just like their Chinese counterparts. So he shook Zhou’s hand.

„Deal”

Taimoor gave one of his swords to him and they all returned home and Zhou was left to drown in the grief of what he had given up.

Chapter 2: The deal in motion

Summary:

The first half of the deal was non negotiable, but because of it the second was easier to set in motion.
It went suprisingly smoothly, maybe too smoothly...

Notes:

Chapter Text

10 years later, the peace part of the deal was non negotiable because of the emperors greed for more land, more power and more control. He concored parts of the Huns land where his soilders acted in inhumane ways with those who lived there. Taimoor couldn’t let it without giving the emperor a pice of his mind. This ended in him becoming the new emperor and reforming the country for what he thought it needed to be. When he wasn’t in the palace his second hand men was in charge: Batukhan.

The officals who didn’t pledge loyalti were locked up or were executed. Those whom did was ordered to help out the huns whom Taimoor choose to replace these people. The new emperor would come to the palace with his few most trusted people. One was ofcurse Batukhan, and his twin brother: Chenghiz, his sister: Tuya, and his sons best friends father: Sanal.

He didn’t forget the strategist whom he made a deal with years back. He asked around where he could find him. When he got enough information regarding his whereabouts he took Tuya, Sanal and his son Shan Yu with him there. When they arrived the neighbors some were fled inside their home, others curiously stood by wandering whats happening. The gate opened and for their suprise the young girl whom was spromised to Shan was behind it. She was in a green and brown dress, that was bunched up with a string on one side at knee hight with brown pants. Her hair was in a half undone bun. Her leg was muddy, had hay in her hair, her hands were dirty too tho it was coverd in animal fur and earth.

„Can I help you?” she asked with a steady voice from the strangers. She recognised that they were came in with the new emperor but didn’t know exactly who they were. So she tired to find a nutural ground of addressing way. „Sweetheart I got the information that Hua Zhou lives here. Is that true?” he asked her leaning dow a bit towards her. Meanwhile his son measuring the girl and thinking that the strategist most have a few servants after all he was the second hand of the now locked up general. Thinking his father probably found him some stuck up papas little princess and already be annoyed about the arrangement.

„Yes, but he can not be called in to the army. He bearly can walk with a cane and without it he only can maybe twenty steps with a limp.” she said still holdin onto the gate if she needs to close it on them. „Haha, thank you for informing me but we didn’t came here because of that.” he answered with a laugh „We here because he and I-” he was interupted by Zhou himself. „Thank you honey I’m taking it from here! Continue whatever you were doing.” shooed the girl away.

He let them inside the property and sit down with them on the porch. „So time has come isn’t it…I heard that the peace part went in other ways.” said as he sat down groaning. „Well yes, Ihad no other choice. He was inhuman with my people so I had to do what I had to. About our deal…” he said it with a warm looking smile. „I directly brought my son with me so maybe they could get to know each other better while we talk about the deatails!”  pointing at Shan who stood next to his aunt, nodding as a greeting. Zhou looked at the son and then at the father noticing how startingly similar the two look. „Well I could guess he look awfuly like you.” the adults chuckled while Shan raised his eyebrows, he dosen’t like to be reminded to that „Anyway, you saw my daughter already so what you think after the first encounter?” he turned to look where is she gone off to but he couldn’t find her in the front yard, she must run off to the other yard that had the magnolia tree.

„That was your daughter?!” asked Shan with suprise in his voice „Yes. Why what did you think? A servant? I don’t employ any of them, I want a capable daughter not a princess.” as Zhou said it the picture of this girl changed in his head and wondered what she’s actualy like. The conversation went on until the little girl didn’t started to shout. „PAPA! PAPA! LOOK WHAT I CAUGTH!” she was runing in with a snake in her hands „Mulan not again!” he put his face into his hands. The guests just look at each other and at Mulan who just looked at her father annoyed „What? The apothecary pays for these venomous snakes, so I basically bring home money with them!” everybody just looked at her with a mix of suprise and worry. „You do what now honey?” asked Tuya breaking the stunned silence „I’m selling them to the neighbor apothecary! He wants to make antidote with them and he said that he pays for them if I catch any.” showing the woman the snake she caugth.

It was indeed a venomous snake, with a sharpened stick in it’s head. Shan went over to her and looked at the animal and than at Mulan. „Where dose this apothecary lives again?” the little girl turned to him fully „Like two house away on the other side of the street. Why?” asked with wide eyes. „I can take her there while you guys speak dad will tell me the details atleast 10 times anyway…” the two didn’t even waited for answer they went on their way to the apothecary.

Poor men was taken aback when he saw the young Hun. Hurriedly took the snake, payed Mulan and disapeared into the house. When they went back to the Hua house Mulans mother called her to wash herself off. „You’ll take an actual bath when they gone now heres a bucket heres a cloth wash as much as you can sweetie” with that she turned back into the house. The mud was harder but eventualy it came off „I’ll be honest with you, I thought that you’ll be some spoiled papas princess.” Mulan just gave him an angry brow raise. „But? Or you still think that?” Shan kneeled down so he could be on eye level with her „Maybe you’re not a spoiled princess, but I will need a little more to like you…”she just hummed as an answer.

The playdate went well after that, they had pleasent conversations, Mulan showed him around, both asked questions from the other. In the end Shans aunt came over to announce that they leaving. „Oh and sweetie!” quickly turning back to Mulan from the door „I’ll come every second day to teach you our language. So be preapared for learning!” with a smile she pushed her nephew and left.

At dinner Mulan asked her father a few questins that bothered her „Dad, who were they?” silence fell onto the room. Nobody wanted to answer that question but Zhou knew he eventualy need to tell her. „When you were born I was on the battlefield. I was leading a small group that was separated from the army.” he started the story, his wife watched him with a dirty look „Long story short we went into a dead end cave, the Huns were there too, I wanted to see you grow up and save the man who was with me so I made a deal” he continued with frantic gestures. „Shan said that he’ll need more to like me…Was I in the deal?”she asked with a worried look in her eyes.  Her mother Li stood up crying and walked out of the room. Mulans grandmother followed her. „I am so sorry honey…I couldn’t give them anything else…” Zhou just stared at his bowl, he felt shame in his decision and he was afraid of what his daughter would think. „They are now the royals, yes?” she asked with a unreadable look on her face. „Yes. Why?” confusion settling in her father „They can protect you if anything would happened, right?”

Zhou just kept blinking at her. He didn’t understand why she was asking this after he told her what he has done. „I’ll go through with the deal, for the family…” he didn’t know how to react. He was suprised that she was all of a sudden mature enough to understan what that means. She was a bold, goofy, clumsy little girl who loved to play with the familys blood pressure, but now she was different. Zhou just huged her tightly and promised himself to make easier these upcoming years for her. As Tuya promised she came every two days so Mulan could learn their language. Every months for two weeks Shan Yu would come to their house for playdates too, getting to know her better. He brought his falkon after 3 months to show her. „Her name is Hayabusa, I found her when she was shot by the kids whom were learning to use an arrow. She was baerly a year old, poor thing.” said as he was petting her head „She looks a bit like you, especially with her yellow eyes.” Shan just hummed in response. Hayabusa opened her wings to show off herself to Mulan. „Oh woow! You look majestic!” boosting the birds ego even higher „She has enough of an ego don’t boost it!” he said it with a smile. Haya didn’t took it well and started to hit her owner with her wings.  The Hun fell to the ground protecting his head with his hands. Mulan just laught at the scenery, she than grabed the bird like a chiken and placed her in her lap. Haya was calm in her grab and chirped when she got patted by the girl. „Well she likes you, thats for sure. Traitor…” he put his finger on Hayas head and gently boped it.

In the following year Shan brought a friend of his so he could get more opinion on her. „Mulan, I brought a friend of mine.” she stepped out of the chiken coop with abasket full of eggs. „Are you bored with me alone? It’s a bit early for that, don’t you think?”she joked and handed over the basket to her grandmother. „Hi, I’m Dawa!” he was a slim boy with a longish face. He had black eyes with the same coloured shoulder lenght hair. He reached out for her hand and was mimicking a hand kiss. Mulan was a bit taken aback by this but looked at Shans face and knew that Dawa was just joking around. It was a relifie to have a person who more goofy than Shan. He was stoick and cold, sometimes a joke would slip out of him but immediatly turned back to his usual self.  „Don’t worry he isn’t bored with you! He just thought that it would be a good idea for you to get to know his circle of friends, and because I’m his BEST FRIEND” Shan did a facepalm to the over exaggerated words, Mulan just found it amusing „ I would be the best candidate for the start!” the girl couldn’t hold back the laught anymore. Dawa was looking at his friend with a smug smile. „See big guy? I made her laught, thats a good start!” Shan just glared at him. The trio continued the playdate and it went well as usual, tho Mulan and Dawa talked more than Shan. He would just listen to them and shot dow Dawa if he would say more than he should about his friend. They would sit under the magnolia tree, the boys were on the ground and Mulan on the stone bench. Dawa would move in ways so Mulan would be in the middle next to Shan. There was a time when they was sent away to pick up a few newly made baskets from the end of the sreet. The villagers got used to see the young huns around and there was even a few family that moved in there. Next to them the old generals family did too. His wife and his son, Shang who harbored a resentment towards the new comers.

He had his eyes set on Mulan for a while now so when he saw the three togheter he couldn’t control himself and went over to them but when he saw how bigger the two hun was he got a bit cold footed. „What you want boy?” asked Dawa from him, a few basket in his hand „What are you two doing with her?” Shang said crossing his arms. The longish faced boy just looked him up and down and turned to him with a smug simle. „Those two are engaged and I just here for support their playdate~” Shang just stared at him in disbelife. „Whats the issue Shang?” stepped closer Mulan she too had two basket in her hands the rest was held by Shan. „I just got informed that you engaged to a Hun…” he wouldn’t even look at Shan but he felt his eyes on him. „Yes it’s true and your problem is what again little guy?” Shan stepped closer, his voice taking up a thretening tone.  Before he could say something his mother came around the corner and grabed him by his shirts collar „I’m sorry for him kids…I don’t know whats his problem…” his mother said with a glare towards him. „I’ll make sure he won’t bother you anymore unless it’s needed!” Shan put the baskets together into his right hand and he placed the left onto Mulans shoulder closer to Dawa pulling her closer to him. „It’s a great idea ma’am! He could do harm in himself if – hope not – he finds someone on the wrong day or time. Like he could be slapped in the mouth~” Shangs mother sensed the threat towards his son. She apologized once again and horriedly left.

Shan was asked to put away the baskets, Dawa took aside Mulan to speak with her a bit privately. „So good news, he likes you enough to be possessive…” he said while scratching his neck „Bad news, the kid is kinda in danger by that!” Mulan just looked at him wide eyed. She felt better about the whole arranged marrige when Shan stood up to her, but knowing he would hurt somebody for her was another story. „I didn’t liked that boy, not one bit!” he exclaimed coming up behind them „Who was that anyway?” he was getting noticably fustrated. „He was the late general Lis son, Shang” his lips twitched on this. „Would it be a proplem if I stayed here while the two weeks go by?” Dawa and Mulan looked at each other suprised and than at Shan.  Mulans parents agreed to it but they needed to sleep at an open door. Dawa went back to his father to the palace. The girl was a bit wierded out about the idea „Why did you wanted to sleep here actualy?” she had a guess but didn’t wanted to assume anything. „One: I had a fight with dad this morning so I just let the old man cool down, two: I don’t trust in that little guy… and third: eventualy we will sleep in the same space so why not start early!”. She was half satisfied with that answer, but didn’t ask forther. He was right in a way about Shang because after dinner he showed up at the Hua house asking for Mulan but was turned away by the girl.He listened but didn’t give up on trying.

Chapter Text

A few years flew by, playdates came and went. Mulan was better in their language day by day. Shan Yu became more comfortable around his future in-laws and in their house. The two even started to talk like a couple, but of curse the most couples thing they were alowed to do was hold hands and give a kiss on the cheek. The villagers got used to them and some even started to tease the couple. It was time for Mulan to get to know the other Huns who were in this important group. She knows Taimoor, Tuya, Shan and Dawa but there is still Dawas father Sanal, the right and left hand twins Batukhan and Chenghiz. Sadly Shang still didn’t got the memo to leave them alone, he still tried to get Mulan off of Shans hand. This ended up with the Hun being with his wife to-be more and more. He partially lived with them at this point. Shan saw them more than he saw his own father.

That’s why Taimoor ‘ordered’ his son to bring Mulan to the palace. He wanted his best men to get to know the girl. As soon as he heared it he got Mulan ready and they went to the new emperor on a shortcut, but Shang was not the happiest about it. He learned that if they out of sight than the others can’t intervene, it landed in him getting his ass beaten by Shan. He wouldn’t beat him hard; he knew he was stronger than the eighteen year old. He just hurt him enough it made him question twice if he wants to get between the two, but he kept coming back. Shan had to bring him back home once because the idiot faceplanted into a rock and gave himself a concussion. His poor mother…

“I swear to GOD, I will search for a girl that will consensually date him!” mulan exclaimed, putting her hands in fists. “Well than, you will need a really desperate girl for that! No one will get with him otherwise” he laughted, they tried to figure out what kind of girl would say yes to him. “There is that girl - her fahter makes the baskets - shes a bit slow in movement but has a strong hand. Maybe she could get him in line…” they needed one and a half day to reach the palace.

Shans aunt lead them in where Taimoor waited for them, “There you are!” he stepped closer. The emperor wrapped his arms around Mulan, that took her and his son by surprise but she patted his arm to make it less awkward. “Sweetheart let me introduce you to our ‘little’ group!” he pointed to the people who stood around the room. “That’s my right and left hand Batukhan and his twin brother Chenghiz, the first one is the ’second’ emperor after me until Shan isn’t ready” the twins nodded to her. They were identical twins both were tall, with a strong built tho Chenghiz had more meat than muscle on his bones but he looked more friendlyer than his brother. Batukhan had this eerie look to him, the kind that you couldn’t put your finger on why. Both had a lighter brownish coloured hair and dark brown eyes, they were from the western side of the country she thought.

”You already know my sister Tuya, I heard your lessons goes pretty well now.” she just smiled. Tuya was a beautiful woman, with an unusual fair hair and with freckles. Her eyes had this greenish tint to them. „She’s the odd bug in the family if you didn’t noticed yet…” Taimoor joked. Tuya was the older from the two, not with much maybe two-three years. She was wide in the hips but had muscles. As Mulan was eyeing her husband-to-bes aunt Dawa jumped infront of her. „HI!” he said loudly spooking the poor girl, she quickly recovered and started to swat at the boy as hard as she could. Dawa ran towards his father to take cover but Mulan caught up to him and grabed his hair. She wouldn’t let go, no matter how hard he tried to get the upper hand. He didn’t wanted to hurt her tho even as an accident. „OW! OW! Hey don’t pull!” she just kept smiling at Taimoor. „Just apologize Dawa and you’ll be fine…” said Shan between laughs „OW! You say it like…*hiss*…like it happened with you already!” Shan just patted his had.

Sanal Dawas father separated them in the end „And they say chinese girls are taught to be quiet and submissive. This one sure aint” he bowed to Mulan “I’m Sanal, Dawas father”.The two made peace and was told to go meet the other ‘kids’. “So, heres the set up! The oldest is Batu, he is a big tall guy, looks scary but realy nice if you are too to him!” Dawa started to list the group “The second oldest is Anu he just like his dad Batukhan but he’s a skiny long haired boy, a bit like me just his head a bit wider” they passed by a couple of maids who looked at Mulan a bit puzzeled. „The third is Shan and I, he just older with two months. The youngest are the twins Modo and Mudo, the difirence between them that Mudo has more hair” Mulan tried to rehearse the names but got cought up them mutiple times. „I’m sure I’ll learn them, just need a little time for that…”

This group was in one of the old consorts room lounging around. When the trio stepped in they got up to welcome their friend but was stopped by Dawa pointing out the girl. „Be nice guys we have our future lady with us!” Mulan held onto Shans arm, she felt samll next to the others. She got used to Shans size, but the twins were larger than him, and their wide eyed stare didn’t help either. She looked up at Shan for a starting nudge, he noded towards the others. Mulan swallowed the sudden shyness and welcomed them in their language with the warmest smile she could give. They remained blank faced and silent. She thought she said it wrong „Did I said it wrong? I remembered like how I said it..” she asked from Dawa. „Don’t worry little lady you said it right” said Batu. He got closer to her and gave a small smile to ease the tension.

„She’s a bit skinny, but your mom will fed her nicely Shan” Anu poked Mulans shoulder earning himself a swat. „Becarefull Anu she can and will fight” said Shan while pushed his friend away. He sat down on one of the chest with a pillow on top, observing the others while they questin Mulan and getting to know her. Dawa wanted to question his friend tho, about her „Sooo, what you think? How this marrige will go?” he sat down nex to him „I think it will go smoothly, but I'm a little afraid of what the people who only gonna meet her when I take her home will say. I don't want her to be bullied or left out” Dawa only noded along. Those who were in the palace liked Mulan, Shan liked her now, but the majority was still a question.

There will be those who will like her, those who will be cautious, and those who will hate her. Atleast his father, aunt and their friends like her. His friends seem to like her too, and if he’s there no one will directly start something with her. He didn’t want to say out loud his worries infront of her, she already had her own doubts. They talked about that already, and asured her about that there is no other woman in his life. Taimoor was right about his son in the past, he would have been forced to even try to get a girl. Some tried to be with him, but he rejected them or ignored them, depending on how they tried to shoot the shot. After his engagement to Mulan became public, a few more girl tried to turn him away from her. It ended in him fully ignore most of them if they came to him with this topic. Now his worries coming to the surface with her reaching the age where he has to take her home.

His friends liked her too so one less group to worry about. It was too late to take her home so they decided to stay in the palace. The maids helped Mulan to get ready for bed “Are you willingly do this honey?” asked one silently while they bathed her. “I mean the two dads made a deal and he’s a better option than the late generals son in my opinion” the maids looked at each other and agreed with her “Usually officals don’t really treat their wifes good, and be one of the concubines isn’t much better either. At least you get space from him if you aren’t his favorite” they kept talking about that topic throughout the bath.

Tuya showed her the rooms she could choose “So witch one darling?” she watched how she carefully thought about the options. “Can I sleep in the same room where Shan sleeps? I would feel safer like that” she got used to him sleeping in the same room with her, givin a sence of safety for her. Shang wasn’t there but other treaths could be. “We could talk with him about that but he’s with his friends now so you might need to stay up with them.” she took her to them so they could sort out this.

The sleeping arrangement is the same here too. He gave her his coat so she wouldn’t be cold, his friend can’t let it slide without a little tease “Why not take you shirt off to Shan? Give that to her too!” the twins started the teasing “At least she gets used to you being half naked in the summert” Mulan just stared at them with a unpleasent look. Shan chased the twins around the room. After a while all of them decided to it’s time to sleep.

Mulan realized now that theres only one bed “Um…it’ll be interesting” she looked at the furniture while her cheek become reder. Shan found smaller blankets, rolled them together and put it in the middle “Now, both of us has their own space for the night” he choose his side and said good night. In the morning he was the one who was huging this blanket border.

Notes:

The story is in my head, the details are my problem.
It's just a little hard to write them down. T-T

Chapter 4: Problems at home

Summary:

There are people at home who aren't so happy hearing about Shans bride

Notes:

Thank you for the kudos and that one bookmark! (if I saw that right)
I wanted Mulan to have a "competitor" to spice things up. I don't realy think it worked but maybe others will think otherwise, will see. I really want to get to the spicey parts, but building is needed!
This chapter is short short, I ran out of ideas for the conflict but I'll come up with something for future chapters.

Again sorry for the misspells and other grammatical errors, I wrote this from midnight to 4 in the morning.

Anyway enyoj :3

Chapter Text

Maybe those who were in the palace liked the girl at home people maybe didn’t so much.“I don’t like the idea that Shan will take a chinese girl as wife…” said Yargui to her friends while braiding one girls hair „I mean, we all know what they did to us, he know that too, why would he go into this ’deal’?!” silence was so loud you could hear what others say outside. Everybody knew that Yarguis anger towards this topic was right. Her father was killed by one soldier and her mother was raped by another, if Taimoor wouldn’t came in time both of them would be dead too. She because of this clinged to this family and slowly developed feelings towards Shan.

„We understand what you feel and why, but” sat down Khair next to her „what if this way a kind of peace will form?” she saw the gears turn in Yarguis head but the anger came back. She stud up and left, two girl ran after her while the others stayed sat. They just looked at each other „At least I hope it will lead to that…” broke the silence Khair. After a few minutes Miron stepped in, she saw Yargui ran off with two other girl. „Let me guess the deal was the topic” the three girl who stayed nodded „We know why she thinks that but we belive that this girl could bring change!” Miron sat down between the girls tol isten what they think. „We all feel sorry for her and what happened to her family, it’s horible! In the same time we have a good feeling that this girl is diferent!” said her opinion Gerel, the third girl had a similar opinion to theirs. Miron looked at them, she understod both sides she saw what the soilders did and how inhumane down right demonic they can be but knew that the two country had a lot of back and forth fight. Both sides were guilty. Miron felt good about this girl too even tho she never met her. „I am sure Taimoor wouldn’t let Shan pursue this girl forthere if he didn’t found her worthy” tried to calm them with a warm smile.

The visit was over for Taimoors group and they arrived back home. „FINALY! I sat my ass of and I feel like my legs going numb!” said Dawa getting off of his horse.”Good to be home again” streched out Modo. Everybody had a few minutes of streching while those who wanted gathered around them. Chit-chat was flowing, some already went on their way, Shans little group went to his yurt to rest. Thats when Yargui apeared infront of them „It’s good to see all of you made it back in one piece!” looking at all of them but giving special look to Shan. All of his friends left him there to deal with her antics. „What do you want Yar’?” asked Shan crossing his arms „Can’t I come and say hit to you now?” he just rolled his eyes. He already knew most of her tricks and what nots and he was fed up with all of them. „Look, I just want to relax a bit. The ride was long and I had to deal with an eighteen year old little shit for two weeks at least” with that he went around her to join his friends „I thought that she just turning sixteen” Shan stopped in his tracks.

„What?” he asked not even turning around „You said the little shit is eighteen. I remembered that - „she couldn’t finish it befor Shan shoot her a mean glare. „You thought that I was talking about my bride?!” the word bride froze Yargui. She still didn’t understand how can Shan wilingly get married with or even love that girl. She was jealous of Mulan that she in a few years had the cold Shan around her finger.”Listen here Yargui! I know what happened to you and your family but you need to get this into your head; in three years she’ll be MY WIFE! Like it or not, get used to the thought!” with this he left her there and followed his friends. Yargui stood there like a tree looking infront of her. She just got even angrier and decided in herself that she’ll try to win over Shan before he and Mulan get married.

The others looked at Shan with curiosity and worry when he stepped in. Before any of them could say a word Miron apeared behind Shan. „Hey boys!” said while she huged her son „I saw the comotion with Yargui, Im sorry and glad that you finaly called that girl your bride son!” she patted Shans shoulder. That eased him a little bit but he was still angry that she thought that Mulan was the little shit he was talking about. Shan told them what happened and how it angered him. As he told her he understand her point of view but it is his decision to marry her. „You know she won’t stop trying, right?” asked the poetic question Batu. Shan just silently nodded „Just like two and a half week and Im free from her for another two weeks again!” he clapped his hands together.

After dinner Miron had a few question regarding Mulan. „So darling, what’s new with my little daughter-in-law?” Shan thought about what to say to his mother. His thoughts ranged from Mulan trying how much his patience lets her, throught Shang pathetic attempts to get her off his hands. There was a few times when Mulan tried to poke the bear, her only luck was that she’s much smaler than him and he dosen’t want to hurt her by accident either.”She likes to swat at people, and grab Dawa by his hair” Miron just looked at her husband who suddenly took interest in his food. “I think you managed to find one of the few fightsty girls for our son over the border!” Taimoor just inicently looked at her. She just shooked her head, Shan just laughed at his fathers antics.

Those weeks flew by both fast and slow. Slow in a mean that Yargui was rentlesly tried to get Shan to like her. It only lead to them avoiding her like the plague. The day of the usual trip the boys was up at dawn so they could go as soon as they can. Not just to get away from obsessive people but to see Mulan already. Some people were not really happy about them going so soon, others just wished them a safe journey. Half a week and they would be in the palace again.

Chapter Text

„So…when I gonna be a great grandma?” grandma hua asked Shan who just blankly stared at her „We’ll make sure it happens before you die” he gave her a smug smile. These two became somewhat of a bonded pair, grandma was wild for an old woman, he knew where Mulan got her spirit from. Li and Zhou learned not to drink or eat anything near them, once the later one almost chocked on tea when those two started their usual verbal brawl, granny is a manace. „You two gonna miss each other after the wedding I’m sure of it!” said Mulan giving a kiss to grandmas cheek „Well I need to leave one wild card with the family, I can’t take both with me” she just rolled her eyes. Mulan was now eighteen so the wedding could be any moment now.

They decided to have two, one for each nations people. The chineses side would separate into two again, one for just the family and the other is the royal one. No big celebration is planned only a quick ceremony and they would go on their way to Shans tribe. Only the royal ceremony was the one that they said to be somewhat proper. They agreed on a day long royal celebration that would end in them leaving. For the preperations Mulan spent more time in the palace so Taimoor can decide if it was time or they need to wait a bit more.

So far it seemed that by nex year Mulan will share a yurt with Shan, but the people of the tribe still wasn’t quite ready for the birde. Most made peace with the thougth that the next khatun will be a chinese girl and trusted in Taimoors judgement, others still had their dubt. The numbers started to eaven out between the two groups but it still wasn’t right in the khans eyes, so he extended the engagement with one more year. They wanted the celebrations to take place on dates close to each other, the longest time gap would be the one where they would travel from one country to the other. The couple wasn’t so happy about the extension.

They wanted to get over it as soon as they could, but of curse the decision wasn’t in their hand. The idea to have the chinese side of the celebrations happen now and the hun side next year, but Taimoor shut that down immediately, his reason was regarding the marriage consummation. He didn't want to risk traveling with a pregnant woman, especialy a woman who was this important. Mulan meant actual peace between the nations and the happines of his son. Shan loved her so much that once, when she had a cold, he barely slept just to take care of her. It was nothing more than sneezing, but every time it happened, he would pop up out of nowhere to check on her. It warmed the parents heart to see them this close, but now Mulans parents started to seeme sadder than before. The realization dawned on them that their little girl soon will leave, the only thing that reassured them was that Shan realy loved Mulan. He had fights with her but never raised his hand on her. They yelled at each other but later talked about the problem and made up. Now that Mulan is old enough they can freely act like a couple. Zhou was afraid that Shan will be the one who would push to do more “couple things” as he said. It became the opposite actualy. It was Mulan who tried to do them, they needed to chase her off. Tho Shan didn't seem bothered by these. He liked being pampered by her and encuraged this.

“I'm starting to get bored of this Shan…” pouted silently Mulan “Can't we move forward a little?” she started to caress his face slowly. The hun just smiled and raised a brow “What do you mean by that love?” she signaled him to keep it down, she didn’t want her parents to hear the conversation. She tried to gather the words so she dosen’t need to say flat out what she wanted. Yes, she was at that age where it was normal, but she still found it a bit emberassing to talk about it. “You know what I mean, don’t play dumb!” her face got redder by the minute “No love, I don’t know~” he teased her more.  Mulan layed onto his chest in defate “I…I want to sleep with you…” she said muffling it with his clothes. He sat up taking the girl into his arms “What did you say?~” lowering his head, so her mouth was close to his ear “I want to seelp with you…!” she wishpered again.

Shan looked at her thinking about that “We can’t until the tribes wedding and you know that” he took up a more serious tone. Mulan just nodded, hiding her face into his neck. Both wanted to do that, but didn’t wanted to risk her getting pregnant. The two just sat there for a while until a knock brooke the silence. “Shan it’s me! Your aunt” came a faint voice from the other side of the door. Tuya stepped into the room, she seemed tired, more wrinkle appiered on her face and her fair hair started to go grey a bit. She was still that beautiful woman who Mulan got to knew but time flew by her too. She still kept herself in shape tho, her mouscles were still nice and visible. They just looked at each other Tuya feeling something “So, whats up?” she closed the door behind her. Shan and Mulan seemed to have a wordles conversation amoung themself.

“Do you know a way were I won’t be pregnant?” Mulan blured out the question, Tuya raised her eyebrows hearing this. She scratched her head thinking, then she remembered “We got new maids who worked as courtesans before” only answer was puzzeled look from her nephew and wide eyes from Mulan “They might know a way for that, that what I want to say with this” she said. Shan still didn’t realy get how they could help “They can make medicine that prevent pregnancy or terminate it Shan!” Mulan explained it to him. Tuya said that they talk about this more on the road while on their way to the palace.

Mulan was excited about it but in the same time she was scared a bit. She wanted to give atleast one grandkid to her parents and what if it will make it imposible to do so. She wanted to sleep with Shan before getting pregnant too so she was a bit conflicted. Tuya found the nearest new girl for this. They were lucky she still had some with her, force of habbit she said. She explained to Mulan how to take it and when. They asked her to keep it a secret unless something goes wrong. So this secret was kept between four people, Taimoor noticed that the three of them was suspicusly quiet. The maids were always quiet so he didn’t think twice of that, but those three was always loud “Alright whats going on between the three of you?” he’s getting inpatient. Mulan didn’t realy saw him like this before so she was taken aback a bit but Shan and Tuya just looked at him blankly. “Theres nothing going on dad, we just tired abit. That’s all, don’t work yourself up for no reason…” Taimoor just squinted at his son in suspicion. They waited until most of Taimoors group goes to sleep or atleast distracted so they can carry out the plan without disruption.

||SPICY PART START HERE||

Shan locked the door. Mulan sat down on the bed, palms sweating, her heart is beating like theres no tomorrow. She didn’t even realize that she was one wrong move away from ripping her skirt with how strongrly she was gripping it. Shan kneeled infront of her, took her hands in his and kissed them. “I’ll be gentel and if you want to stop just say it or pul my hair okay?” she nodded. His words calmed her a bit but she was nervous still. Shan started to pull up her skirt, when he got to mid thigh he started to kiss her legs. Starting from her knees, around the outside of her left thigh next the right. He started to massage them while checking in with Mulan. When he saw that she was calm he opened her legs to kiss the inside of her thighs. Shan put her legs on his shoulders to have a better acces to her. He put one of his hand on her belly as a signal to lay dow on her back. “It’ll be easier for both of us if you on your back” she obeyed. Shan untied her skirt and tossed aside.

She only had her nightgowns top half on. Feeling cold she asked Shan to put his hands on her belly, they were big enough to cover it and keep her warm for a while. Shan was getting closer to her core, becoming more inpatient. He was now a breath away, still he asked if she wanted it. Mulan just pushed his head flush againts herself; yes, she wanted it. He slowly started to liking her slit. After that, he kissed her clit and sucked gently, going back to her slit. He slowly pushed his tounge in, testing the water. He started to became rougher each passing second. Mulan was alerted when he suddenly grabed her hip and pushing her imposibly closer. She pulled a handfull of his hair, when they separated he was out of breath a little. “You were getting rough…” she said, he kissed her clit as an apology. He went back, slower and more gentel this time. He didn’t stop until her thighs closed around his head. He put her higher on the bed so he could put his knees on each side of her.

She was heavily breathing, collecting herself. Shan meanwhile watched her like Haya would a mouse. He would take her right there and then, but held himself back. Slowly inserting two fingers into her, streching her out. “What are you doing?” she garbed his shoulders in surprise “I need to strech you out a little, it’ll hurt with it too but atleast not that much…” he said while pumping his fingers in and out. She almost reached her second klimax but he stoped and undressed her and himself. She eyed his member thinking about how it’ll fit into her. Shan kissed her on the lips and around her whole face taking her thoughts off of it for a bit. He went lower to her jaw, caressing it with his teeth. He sucked on a spot on her neck, not too hard he didn’t want to leave visible marks on her.

He grabed her breasts, gently massaging them. Shan kissed the right breast, nibbling on it than sucked her niple into his mouth. He did the same with the left one, then he lifted her thighs. Positioning his member to her core, one last time looked at her for comformation to go further. Mulan swallowed hard, nodded and gave him a smile. Shan slowly pushed himself into her. Stopping so she would have time to adjust to his size. Each time she moaned, so far she could handel it. Then he finaly bottomed out, he still wasn’t fully in her but than again he was a unit compared to her. They stayed that way for a bit, just looking into each other eyes. Shan couldn’t hold it any longer. He started to move in and out. First slow and steady, her moans getting noticable with each thrust.

He moved faster and her moans became louder. After a few minutes she reached her klimax. Mulan needed a pillow to muffle her moan. Shan needed a few more thrusts and he was done too. Before that he pulled out of her, it went on her stomach. Luckly Shan had a few rags with him, incase an injoury would happen. He wiped Mulan and himself off, the rag will be dealt with in the morning. They dressed back on, Mulan took the medicine and snuggled until both fell asleep.

|| SPICY PART END HERE||

In the morning Shan woke up alone, he panicked but before he could move out of the bed somebody knocked on the door. It was Taimoor his father. He had this knowing look on his face “I know what the two of you did last night Shan Yu…” Shan felt like he was a kid again. His father only used his full name when he was 1. angry at him or something that he did, 2. he left without a word to anybody. “I-I can explaine dad!” Shan got ut of the bed so fast, he almost fell face first onto the floor. His father only stood in the door with crossed arms, the angry expresion not fading away. “I told you to take that girl AFTER the wedding! But no, you couldn’t wait! Now Mulan is bleeding and in pain!” he started to shout at his son. “What went throught you head son?! HUH?!” Taimoor was ready to smack his son but Tuya stepped in just in time.

“Listen to your son for once buddy!” she said angrily, holding her brothers arm by his wrist “He took madicine dad that prevents pregnancy!” his father just looked at him puzzeled. He never heard about this type of medicine before. “One of the new maids gave it to her. They worked as courtesans before, they just know it!” Tuya let his arm go. It seemed that the medicine produced a earlyer more painfull period for the woman who took it. “It won’t throw her cicle off Tai’ don’t worry. It only came three days earlyer than it should be” the khan flicked his sons forhead “So whos idea was that?” he asked. “She brought it up at her parents’ house, I told her you wouldn’t be happy but she didn’t want to be pregnant after the first time either.” neither of them knew if she would be after the first time, taking in count that how manny time her parents needed for her. Taimoor and Minor needed a few trys for Shan too so his fertility was questionable too.

Mulan wasn’t pregnant it was the only thing that mattered at this time. She was in the bath house with the girl who gave her the madicine. She stayed in the palace too until she didn’t stop bleeding. Shan pampered her with anything he could. Taimoor involved his son in the political parts of being a ruler. He would sit or stand close to his father soemtimes even taking over his position but only giving the proper answer to things when his father decided about them.
