Work Text:
It was 2 in the morning, the whole team had went to sleep by now. Even Medic went to sleep; or to be more specific, he passed out on his desk. That counts as going to sleep on a warm bed next to your husband—well, maybe without the husband part, poor Heavy sleeping on his own, that made Medic feel a little bad -or at least he would if he wasn't asleep and was actually thinking about this-
But Medic's sleep got disrupted by the squeaking of the old laboratory door, god he really should talk Engineer about the door shouldn't he?—though who opned the door made him wait if he should throw his bonesaw on on whoever it was yet or not. It was Scout. She looked very tired, which was probably true with how she had her hair tied—as it became long enough for her to tie her hair she only tied it during battles and when she tired, she was also wearing her slippers—clearly to tired not to bother to wear her tight shoes and worst of all she wasn't wearing the bandages on her hands that she always wear to hide the scares that she had due to the bulling she was getting since she was in elementary
"...Hey doc" she said in a small voice "...is it.. alright if I stayed here for a while?" She said not looking at Medic; for how long this relationship between them has been going on it was a little surprising for Medic how embarrassed she gets when she asks, but Medic wouldn't blame her
"Of course mädchen, do you want somezhing to drink?, water? tea?" Medic said as he stood, going to the only bed in the medbay and trying to make it a little comfortable for her to lay on, she's mostly the only one who get to use it, the rest just get to sit on the stretcher
"Nah, not in the mood for team, but some water sounds good..." she said as she slowly sat on the bed after medic was done and motioned to her that she could use it, she was clearly tired and scared. Medic made sure to never leave his eyes off of her, even though there wasn't anything that could hurt her here, he still made sure to keep his eyes on her
After he came back and gave her the water he asked her "Do you want the doves to be out or would that be to much?" He made sure to ask about everything before doing it, knowing that Scout would be very easily overstimulated in a state like this. She looked up at him, taking a moment to register what he said. "...hmh?, oh...!, no it's fine, it's fine!, I would like them to be here...!" She said, clearly a bit at ease now. Medic just nodded before walking to the cage the doves were on, which did take a big space from the counter, but Medic always prioritized his doves over everything, even his experiments, that's how much he loved his doves
After he opened the door to their cage they immediately flied around, Archimedes immediately going to Medic's shoulder, while Alecia sat down on Scout's lap, she began to clean her own feathers while Scout pat her small head carefully
Medic sat slowly on a chair next to the bed "So, Scout, may I ask what was your nightmare?, you don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to" Scout looked at Medic, she clearly looked a little more tired now getting reminded about her nightmare
"Well, the dream was just, agh...,, how do I explain this?" She said, putting her free hand in her hair "I just saw my ma and siblings just...,, getting away from my hold?, like they were falling off a cliff, and I wasn't fast enough to save them" she said, now both hands petting Alecia's checks with both of her hands
Medic wasn't a therapist, nor did he knew how to work with others feelings (that was the reason why he became a surgeon, he didn't need to face his patients-while they are awake, of course), but when it came to his teammates?, he always made to at least try
"Well, you can call them if you want?, we will have a break soon, you cane visit them" Medic said the best he could come up with, which isn't good, but it's the thought that counts right? (or at least that's what he kept telling himself)
"Yeah....,, that sounds good, thanks doc" she said as her hands stopped a while ago, not looking at particularly anything
The infirmary was filled with silence for a while. It wasn't the type wasn't the weird loud silence it was a comforting silence, only being filled with the birds 'coo's and whatever machines Medic had in here. But that was broken by Scout's chuckle, Medic looked at Scout, waiting for her to say what made her laugh
"You know, it's weird but Spy was also in my dreams. SPY" she put her pointing finger under her nose as she chuckled, a usual habit of her she does while she's laughing hard "Could you believe it?, Spy, being related to me?, who would believe that!?" Her chuckle turned into a full on laugh now, Alecia flied away, going to stand next to the other doves. Medic didn't know how to respond to this, he knew that Spy was Scout's father, heck, the whole team knew that, but they all agreed that if Scout will know that, it's either because she somehow found out or Spy decided to tell her, it was never their business
"Well,," Medic rubbed the back if his neck, trying to find something to say "Maybe you were fighting with Spy a lot last night, you did end up in the infirmary because of that ja?, maybe that's why you dreamt of him?" he said, he could swear that he was sweating crazy
"Ehh, probably, I mean, what other reason I'd dream of Spy with my family!?" she said with a big smile. Medic felt bad, but he was glad that she was smiling again
Scout ended up staying up all morning with Medic as usual. They didn't even feel the time passing until Heavy came to the lab,
"Doktor" called his husband as he entered the lab, "Battle is starting soon- oh!, hello Scout" Heavy said as he noticed Scout, it wasn't usual for Scout to be hear with Medic in the lab, but he was aware of Scout's nightmare problem so he didn't pay much attention to it
"Hooh!, really?, time flies by huh?, vell, go Scout and get ready for battle" he said as he put his hand on her shoulder, which she nooded and went to her room to get ready for another day
