Everything is great in the Megapolis, MK just delivering noodles, cleaning the noodle shop everyday, and fighting off demons, the usual Monkie Kid stuff. So far, nothing too out of the ordinary and world ending, that was great news for him! He really needed a breather from all the world ending disasters that had happened.
In Pigsy's Noodles, Tang sat on his usual spot, slurping a bowl of noodles and MK was mopping the floor in the background. Pigsy stood behind the counter, glaring at Tang “could you please just pay for the noodles you eat for once?! I could pay an entire year worth of rent with how much you owe me!” Pigsy yelled at Tang.
Tang waved a hand dismissively, still chewing, “Oh relaaax, Pigsy. It's not that bad I'm sure” Tang replied.
“not that bad?! You come here everyday into my shop, order a bowl of noodles without paying! Do you know how much that costs me?!” Pigsy’s rant made the whole room shake.
The door suddenly banged open, Mei bursted into the noodle shop, panting, her hands resting on her knees as she tried to catch her breath. Everyone looked at her with mild concern on their faces, after a moment she finally spoke up. “Guys! Did you see the news? The mayor is sick! Like really sick!” Mei exclaimed.
MK stopped mopping the floor and turned to Mei with a somewhat shocked expression. “Wait, the mayor?!” He asked.
Mei nodded, holding up her phone showing a news article regarding the mayor's illness. “mhm, and not just the mayor. Leaders all over the world are falling sick.”
MK's expression immediately fell, tightening with worry. “Oh man…that doesn't sound good” Mei sighed, nodding slowly as she put her phone back into her pocket.
Tang tilted his head “sick from what, Exactly?” He asked.
Mei shrugged, “I dunno, nobody knows, apparently it's…an ‘unknown cause’.” she said, making air quotation marks. Tang raised an eyebrow but decided to not press further.
“Wait wait wait, if the mayor's sick, then who's governing the Megapolis?” Pigsy spoke up, mildly concerned for how the Megapolis would be without the mayor governing it.
Everyone fell silent, glancing at each other awkwardly until MK spoke up “I'm sure it's fine, they probably have it covered”.
Just then, Mei's phone rang with a notification. She took her phone out of her pocket again, “Hm? news again? What's it this time?” Everyone crowded around her side to see what it was, anxious and hoping it wasn't something bad. On the screen was a headline about the huge spike of missing children reports.
Pigsy sighed, crossing his arms, “oh great, first the mayor falls incredibly sick and now children are missing? What's next? Another world ending disaster?”
Mei huffed, turning to look at Pigsy, “oh c'mon, don't be so dramatic Piggy.”
MK nodded. “yeah, I'm sure nothing *that* bad is going to happen.”
Pigsy raised an eyebrow “oh really? Because we've been jumping from one disaster to another I don't know how many times in a row now!”
MK’s expression fell, “oh, hehe…” he chuckled and grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. He had a point there.
Pigsy sighed, rubbing his temples before looking back at MK with a frown, “and what are you doing just standing there? Now get back to work!” MK jumped a bit at his loud voice and started mopping the floor again.
The day went on as usual. MK would do noodle deliveries, slack off a bit, get scolded by Pigsy after he noticed, fight some demons, save the Megapolis. Just another normal Tuesday, well, besides the horrible news of the mayor being ill and the disappearances of children everywhere.
At around 9pm, MK's shift is finally over. The shop was lit with warm lights, he sat down on one of the seats in the restaurant, letting out an exhausted sigh. “Phew…finally I can rest for the day”
Mei sat beside him, watching something on her phone. MK peeked over at her phone curiously “whatcha watching there?” He asked.
“Oh, just a livestream of a press conference. Apparently these guys are gonna help” she gestured at the two people on screen. A man wore a white suit and pants with a grey tie, his hair styled neatly; while the woman next to him wore an elegant flowy sleeveless white dress with some white, fluffy fur wrapping around the waist. The two were dressed in all white, even their hair was matching the color of their clothes. MK and Mei watched the livestream together.
At the press conference, the two people stood on a stage, mics in front of them. “Alright alright, everybody settle down.” The man said, making a placating gesture.
“Don't worry, I can assure you all the mayor will be fine and I, Bai Lu, as the acting mayor for the time being, and my assistant Vivian Bai will carry out his duties with utmost responsibility.” the man or, Bai Lu said.
“As for the missing children, we have already sent search parties to look for them so fear not” Vivian added, trying to reassure the worried parents in the crowd.
“We are currently investigating the mysterious illness of the mayor and the increase in missing children reports. Until then…” their eyes seemed to flash a sinister glint then— livestream was abruptly cut off.
MK and Mei stared at the screen, blinking. “Huh…what was that?” MK asked, he could've sworn he saw something in their eyes
“What was what?” Mei turned to MK and tilted her head, she didn't seem to notice anything off before the livestream ended.
MK raised an eyebrow, “didn't you see that evil look in their eyes just now?”
Mei tilted her head even more before she waved a hand dismissively “...nah, it's probably just the lighting. I mean, they seem like pretty nice guys to me”
MK still couldn't shake off the weird feeling that something was up, he frowned, replaying the last moment of the livestream in his head. He decided to put it aside for now. Surely nothing bad will happen…right? “If you say so…”
Somewhere else, in a luxurious room, dimly lit with a fireplace, Bai Lu sat on a couch, sipping a cup of tea while Vivian stood in front of the mirror, fixing her hair “All is going according to plan, Bai Lu.” Vivian said, a grin plastered on her face.
“ooh, and you picked the perfect disguise. With this pretty borrowed face, the public will never suspect a single thing!” She continued, admiring the facade Bai Lu had given her
“Let's not celebrate too soon, vixen. The plan had just started. We must stay vigilant. Make sure there are no mistakes. We don't want to blow our cover…not so soon at least.” Bai Lu said, setting down his glass on the coffee table.
“Oh, don't worry Bai Lu, I don't plan on celebrating until we succeed. Hehe…at this rate, we shall reign upon the world in no time!” The two of them cackled, the sounds of their laugh reverberating around the room.
