Chapter 1: Draft
Chapter Text
Simon couldn’t help but chew as he stared down at himself in horror. The gum tasted so addictive, wave after wave of flavor, somehow better than the last chew.
His body expanding and bloating like a water balloon. He tried but he couldn’t stop, blushing blurple as he was covered head to toe in a dark purple color that could be mistaken for blue. His jaw chomped endlessly on the gum, part of him wished this was a nightmare and would stop. Part of him didn’t because the flavor is bliss.

Notes:
⚠️WARNING: Content contains blueberry inflation. Read at your own risk.⚠️
Notes: Contains safe inflation, not NSFW, no death, no popping. But maybe swearing. Mentions of self starvation and toy on toy cannibalism. And toy on human consumption. And Touille’s trash eating habits.
For context, the Nightmare Critters are like in their cartoon height that INUbis portrays them. I can revise it for them in a Bigger Body Experiment Dog Day size if this gets popular enough.
Chapter Text
Time seemed like a meaningless void in the bowls of Playtime Co. Death was everywhere around every corner. Toys hunting after toys for food since sustenance was a rarity. Since The Hour of Joy, Simon and his fellow Nightmare Critters were given the chance to ally themselves with The Doctor and his precious Yarnaby. They were skeptical but what else could they do? The Doctor could have killed them then and there with Yarnaby treating them as snacks. They had to say yes.
Despite the power they had, they were nothing more than minions. They hunted down other toys to feed to Yarnaby while they were given scraps. Sure, at first food was plenty. But over time, the bodies started to dwindle. Toys, employees, anything that they found started becoming a scarcity rapidly.
Now, it’s rare to find anything edible. And The Doctor’s patience for them to return with food also started to dwindle. Some days they couldn’t find anything. No matter how high or low, over or under, it started to become apparent to them that their days will be numbered. And that The Doctor will cease their lives. All they could do now, is try to delay the inevitable.

Simon’s stomach growled hungrily, it’s been day who-knows-when of the last meal he ate. He feels starved and weak, his stomach aches for nourishment, to be filled. Sadly there’s nothing he can do, every step was agonizing. And the others also complained too, also in pain and hungry.
He wished for a bite of something so bad, but knew the consequences if he ate something he found that was meant for Yarnaby.
“Found anything?” He heard a voice: Baba’s. The black woolen sheep came into vision within the darkness. She also looked hungry in pain, but also looked worried.
“Unfortunately no,” Simon sighs exhausted. “I think this is the end Baba. I think we have exhausted everything.”
“No, don’t say that. We have to try-“ but Simon had enough and flew away. Hope is fleeting down here, might as well try to find a hiding place from Yarnaby. The vents would be fine but who knows what could be lurking in them. The last thing he wanted was to come across Mommy Longlegs. Maybe he should find Pianosaurus, or that Doey guy, they would probably protect the little guys.
But at the same time, why would they? He’s allies with Sawyer. They would hate him more than help him. As he was lost track in thought, he realized what he had found: Playcare. The Fuzzy Wuzzy territory. He saw the statues of the seven Smiling Critters towered above Playcare. Cat Nap. He should find Cat Nap.
Landing on the faux grass, Simon walks the path until he found the school. He hesitates. The freaky Ms. Delight reigns the school, if he steps foot in there, he’s good as gone. Maybe there’s food in there that she’s guarding. No toy ever goes into the school because of her. So, he’ll just sneak in, grab something, and get out.
So, he enters. Expecting to hear her over the intercom but so far it’s been silent. As he continues exploring through the building, not once she has said anything. Maybe she choked and died. Either way, he’ll take her hoard.
Then he finds a theater classroom. Racks and racks of various costumes for kids and adults. Despite his hunger, his curiosity wins over. It’s quite cold in the dark depths, and unfortunately, he can’t breathe real fire. So he’s constantly chilly due to not having any fur.
Then he finds something that could fit him. A blue track suit. Unfortunately not red but it’s something. After using a pair of cloth scissors to cut holes in the back of the torso for his wings. While the pants were given a tail hole. He puts the track suit on and untucks his pendant out from underneath the top.
The blue tracksuit was quite soft and a little snug. But it did keep him warm in the cold building. He continues trekking, checking every possible classroom for food and he had found nothing. So, he shrugs and leaves. Slumping down to sit on the steps of the school and looks up at the artificial clouds of Playcare. Knowing today will be the day that he dies if he goes back to The Doctor.
He’s not going to. He refused to be his servant another day.
He puts his hands in the pockets of the tracksuit’s top, and he felt something hard in the left pocket. Pulling it out, it was a wrapped stick of gum. It’s not even food, but considering that he doesn’t have to sacrifice this up. Simon puts the gum in his mouth and begins to chew.
At first he gags at the flavor that there was a lack of. But before he could spit it out… he tasted tomato?!?!?! It didn’t taste artificial, but Simon grimaced at the flavor. Tomato? The gum’s texture didn’t make this easier to enjoy. In fact, it’s weird that the flavor somehow tastes freshly warm.
Then it changed, as well as his expression from the disgust to baffled. He was now tasting something meaty and tender while the other thing was starchy and soft. It was delicious and better than the tomato.
What’s even weirder is that he just now realized he’s not hungry anymore. Was the gum tricking his mind and body that it’s been fed? Or was he so distracted from the taste, he doesn’t feel hungry? Either way, he continues chewing and chewing.
Then he tastes something sweet, sugary and tart. “Is this… blueberry pie?” Simon wonders out loud. But honestly he couldn’t help but softly moan at the sweet delicious taste. Chewing faster as the flavor kept getting better and better. That heavenly fruity flavor was so rich, delicious, and decadent. He could taste the cold flavor of vanilla ice cream.
He heard his stomach grumbling again. “I know, I wish I had real food,” Simon admits, but the gum was a close second. More grumbling followed by a glorp, that time it didn’t sound empty. Looking down, he sees these blotches of dark blue spreading all over the suit. When he touched one of the spots, his hand was turned blue too.
“Oh shit, what’s happening to me!?!?” Simon panics as he gets up. His stomach aches now, but not in hunger but as if he ate a whole banquet to himself. Simon groans, happy to not be starving anymore but didn’t want to turn blue in the process.
Then he saw his stomach bloom out and swell. His eyes widened in fear as it was not only his stomach. His chest. His back. His rear end, arms, thighs, his sides. It was like he was a balloon, but heavier.
“Ffffffuck!” Simon hissed. “What the hell’s going on!?!?!?”
“Simon!” He heard a voice call out. He saw Baba running towards him with Poe flying above her.
“Simon, what’s happening to you?!?!” Baba exclaimed. “You’re blue and round.”
“Obviously I know that!” Simon snapped. “I found some weird gum, chewed it, and this happened!”
“Are you in pain?” Poe then asks. Well, his stomach hurts from being so full but not in hurt pain like breaking or fracturing something.
“No, but go get Sawyer for help,” Simon tells Poe. “And not a word of this gets said to Rabie!”
The raven nods and flies off. Simon groans as Baba stays with him. His arms have swelled very thick and he can’t see past his huge chest and belly. Heck, he can barely see the top of Baba’s head.
“You’re quite puffy, Simon,” Baba says before prodding him with one of her hoofs. “And squishy!” Then she laughs a little.
“Glad I’m amusing to you, Baba,” Simon huffs annoyed. He felt some kind of liquid in him slosh. Probably berry juice since he is big and blue. “But hope he gets here quickly, I don’t know how much longer I can endure this.”
“Well, if it’s the gum that’s doing this, spit it out!” Baba points out. Right, the gum. His jaw has been on autopilot that he forgot. Simon tries to but it’s like his mouth won’t let him.
“I-I can’t. It’s like the gum won’t let me spit it out,” Simon groans in frustration. He tried some more before feeling himself get tackled and rolled back. Seeing Baba climb onto him. “What’re you doing!?!?!” He then exclaimed in shock, as she grabs the jumpsuit’s torso and pulls herself up.
“Helping you!” She tells him. “Now, can you make that obnoxious chewing noise?” She then asks before explaining. “Like jaws wide open as possible when chewing that sounds like you’re smacking gum?”
He could try, not sure why she asked. But thankfully he was capable of doing so.
“Okay, now hold your head steady so I don’t stab your tongue!” The sheep commands him. Now he got the gist when she pulled out her knife.
Smack-smack-smack was now heard coming from him as Baba inches the knife closer and closer to his mouth. She’s gonna stab the gum to get it out. Waiting until he saw her insert the knife into his mouth with swift reflexes and pulled it out before his jaw shut. At the tip of the knife was the stupid devil gum that did this to him.
“Holy shit, you did it!” Simon laughs, impressed with her knife work.
“Never doubt my skills with knives,” Baba smirks, flicking the gum into the trashcan near the school.
“Never again!” Simon agrees with her. “But can you get off? This is weird.”
“Nope!” Baba smirks. “Honestly you’re quite comfortable like this. Like a scaly water bed.”
Simon rolls her eyes but didn’t further complain. She did save his ass just now, he should let her do what she wishes since she’s the leader of the Nightmares after all. Yet he couldn’t help but smile at her.
“Thanks black sheep,” he says sincerely.
“Anytime dragon breath,” she retorts back.
Simon exhales softly. Letting himself relax until the doctor arrives.
