Summary:

Monkey has nightmares, And he absolutely hates it.

Chapter 1: Don't stop breathing.

Smoke, Blood.
That's all he smelt.

Monkey felt blood drip down the side of his head, Things felt hazy.

He looked over to mechagodzilla- Or what was left of the robot, He scrunched his nose at the scent of burning flesh and oil, He wasn't sure from which one on the platform..

The ape sighed, Before he heard a small grunt from Triangle-

And then he fell.

Oh no.

Monkey raced over, skidding to a halt on his knees, He ignored the burning pain from his knees and the protests at moving from his body.

Triangle was bleeding, Nastily from his side still- Monkey felt his stomach rise and drop at the sight of it, He didn't realise it was THIS bad-

Instinctively, Monkey placed his hands over Triangle's injury, Shuddering at the sensation of his blood seeping through his fingers.

It worried him how Triangle didn't react to that.

He could hear Noodleneck somewhere further away, Yelling something to someone- The bounty hunter?, Probably.

Monkey looked down at Triangle again, His vision focusing just a little on the kaiju below him.
He was pale- It was weird to see Triangles usually vibrant green now dull, It made his bags more prominent.

"Triangle- Hey, Buddy open your eyes." Monkey raised his voice a little, He wanted to nudge Triangles face- Maybe that'd make him move just a little, But he didn't want to take his hands off the kaiju's wounds.

Monkey looked up at Noodleneck, He seemed to be pulling off mechagodzilla from Charles, Who seemed injured- Which was likely, He had tons of metal laying on him for- an hour? maybe.
Triangles breathing still.

The ape snapped to attention immediately when he couldn't feel the rise and drop of triangles chest and stomach.
He's not breathing.

Oh god please don't let this be real.

Monkey Grabbed onto Triangle's shoulder, Keeping his other hand remaining on the kaijus injury, shaking him.
He didn't budge, just moved limply.

He tried again.
Nothing.

Monkey's breathing quickened, The ape slipping his hand under Triangles head and lifting it up a little.
There was nothing in his face, His eyes were closed, Nose stained from blood and his mouth the same.

"Monkey!" Noodle neck called out, Speeding over.

The dragon quickly stopped in his pace when he saw what was happening.
Ni blinked, Lowering his head to inspect Triangle.

Noodle neck paused beside Monkey, Crouching down.

"Goji.." Ichi whispered, Clawed hand placing on the apes shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Kong." The dragon attempted to comfort Monkey, But Monkey at this moment?
Everything was too much.

Too quick, Too loud yet too quiet, Too enhanced- He could feel everything, His injuries, The blood on his hands in this moment.
Triangle was dead-

This was his fault.
His, Fault.

Chapter 2: Two kings.

Summary:

Oh look triangle is here, Okay now he's gonna be a bit of a bully.

Don't stop breathing-

"AH!"

Monkey shot up from his resting place, Panting as he stared into space.

It was just a dream.

But then a thought popped into his head, An rather nagging one.

Monkey whipped his head around, And spotted Triangle and Noodle neck sleeping, The two had worn blankets over them, An friendly reminder of how scarce resources were for the trio.

Monkey sighed in relief. Then grumbled as he rubbed his forehead. He flinched when he felt the stitches and the burning pain from touching them.

Just a dream, Not real- Well, It was almost real.

His eyes landed on Triangle again.

The bandages wrapped around his stomach in particular.

He had came so close to dying.

So close to just- Being one of the many casualties of this stupid place.

How Monkey almost lost him-

Nope.

Monkey snapped that thought out of his head, Tugging at his fur to try to focus on something else.

He needed to take a moment- Away from the two kaiju who are injured and not helping his situation at all.

The ape stood up, Gingerly looking back as he entered another part of their "home", If you could consider the lousy and barely stable place as a home.

Though he didn't notice how Triangle opened his eyes, Lifting his head slightly as he watched Monkey shut the door.

What was wrong with him?

Its been two whole months since Mowcuss died, Since they defeated- well- everything!, Why is it catching up to him now??

This is possibly the worst time for it to happen, While the others are healing and trying to figure out their own emotions?, The dragon finding out his "friend" was actually the same guy who murdered his brother, And Triangle-

Triangle.

Who was probably having the brunt of it, Monkey doesn't know much, Nor will the two lizards tell him what happened or who he knew. But what he did know, Is that it made Triangle angry enough to risk Monkey's life and ditch him and Noodle neck just to get revenge in an impossible situation.

Monkey sighed, Leaning against the wall.

The images kept flashing in his head.

Mechagodzilla's bared teeth.

Mowcuss's voice, Echoed and taunting.

Noodle neck getting his wing torn.

Triangle getting stabbed.

Monkey groaned, Slowly falling down into a sitting position.

..

"Wow."

The ape flinched, Nearly falling over from the sudden cut into the silence, Blinking as he saw-

Triangle. With his arms crossed and an amused expression on his usually stubborn face.

Great, As if he needed the kaiju right here to nag him.

"Aren't you meant to be resting?, Pretty sure Noodle neck said that you're meant to be resting." Monkey pointed out, Glancing at his bandages- It made his stomach twist when he saw them.

"Noodle neck ain't the boss of me, I'm the king of the monsters for a reason." Triangle placed his hand on his hip, The other swaying about as the lizard walked over to Monkey.

"More like the king of the idiots."

"Monkey.." Triangle growled, Monkey immediately averted his gaze.

"Sorry." Monkey grumbled.

"...Want some water?, Noodle neck managed to find some in the city so.." Triangle offered.

Monkey could go for some water.

"Yeah, Why not."

After a few minutes, The two now stood beside each other. Leaning against the dirty, Cold wall. Monkey held an cup of water, Swaying it awkwardly.

"Okay, So what's up?" Triangle finally said after a few cruel minutes of silence.

Monkey blinked, Looking over at the lizard. "What?"

"You don't wake up this late, I mean- Its like.. 3am right now."

Triangle might've caught him there.

"I couldn't sleep."

"Mhmmm." Triangle made a small humming noise, He definitely didn't believe him. "And I suppose waking up sweating and freaked out is normal behaviour?"

Monkey glared. It earned an small glance and a sigh from the kaiju beside him.

"Look, I'm just worried, You looked actually upset."

"So.. What was it?"

Monkey grimaced, He looked down at his drink. Grumbling. "Its stupid."

"I won't make fun of you!, Probably.."

"It was a nightmare." Monkey said that rather bluntly, Keeping his eyes on the drink like it was the most interesting thing in this conversation.

"Ah, I see."

..

"What was it about?"

That caught Monkey off guard.

He expected Triangle to laugh at him, Or tease him for it, But for once this kaiju looked genuinely worried.

"Uhm.." Monkey hesitated, And found himself staring at the bandages Triangle had.

The lizard beside him seemed to catch onto that quickly.

"Oh." Triangle placed a hand on his bandages.

"Yeah." Monkey sat down again, Cup hovering near his mouth.

Triangle stared at Monkey for a few seconds, Before sitting down himself.

"Wanna talk about it?-"

Monkey looked over at Triangle, Sighing.

"It was mostly the same, Till when you passed out that is."

Triangle leaned over, Tilting his head.

"Well, I was keepin' pressure on the wound you got, And-"

Monkey grimaced, The dream kept rushing back.

Triangles pale scales.

How his breathing just- stopped entirely.

His hands soaked in Triangles blood.

"Monkey?"

The ape snapped back to reality, Looking over at Triangle.

".. I suppose I died?"

Monkey sighed.

"Yeah, You did."

Triangle blinked, Leaning away as he stared at the floor.

The two were quiet for awhile, Other then the sound of the flickering lights, Triangles tail swaying on the dusty floor, And their own breathing.

"I'm sorry."

Triangle lifted his head up, blinking with a confused expression slapped onto his face.

"Maybe if I had reacted faster, You wouldn't of been stabbed- Or nearly died- Hell even Noodle neck!, If I had just- done more."

Triangle grimaced, He remembered how Monkey had been knocked out some time in the fight, He wasn't sure when the ape woke up, But it seemed to be some what after he was stabbed.

Then he remembered.

"If I die it'll be your fault!"

"Yeah, Probably."

God Monkey still remembered that??

"Oh- Shoot Monkey-"

Monkey felt his chest twist in guilt at that.

"That wasn't your fault dude." Triangle attempted, It seemed the ape wasn't gonna listen to him. What was that thing Cole used to do?, He didn't really observe the apes much- Or want much to do with them for that matter, But he remembered faintly whenever something was wrong, Cole would be the first to console Monkey if he noticed him upset.

The lizard sighed, And reached his arm- hesitating briefly. Before wrapping it around Monkey, Pulling him into an side hug, The shorter kaiju beside him tensed for a moment.

Triangle was a little worried, Just because he was injured doesn't mean Monkey wouldn't shove him- Should he of asked? maybe-

Monkey then relaxed, Sighing as he leaned into the hug, Pulling his knees to his chest as he rested his chin on them.

Goji blinked, Surprised- And kind of amused.

Then Monkey spoke, Quiet. muffled.

"When you- Fell, After you got stabbed."

...

"I thought you were dead, Like- Genuinely gone- In that moment."

Ah, That made alotta sense.

"I don't know why- It just made me angry."

Triangles grip became firmer, As he stared at his bandages.

"How did you even get the strength to get up?" Monkey turned his head, Clearly he meant by when Mecha had pinned him down.

"No idea honestly- Adrenalin?." Triangle wasn't gonna admit it, But it was because of the ape beside him.

"Huh."

The two were awkward for a few seconds, Before Triangle realised something-

"Heh, You care about me." Triangle teased, Poking the ape with his other hand in the face.

"Oh- Cmon man! I was having a vulnerable moment! there!" Monkey groaned, Pushing Triangle away with his hand shoving into Triangles face.

The kings wouldn't admit it, But they had a lot in common more then they thought.
