Chapter Text
I'm addicted to the way you hurt, the way you contradict me I swear everything look worse at night, I think I'm overthinking I don't care who I might hurt along the way, I'm fuckin' sinking Into every word, I don't care if you're lyin' when I'm drinking So, tell me pretty lies, look me in my face Tell me that you love me, even if it's fake You can lead me on and leave these questions in my sheets I'm under it, I made my bed and I'm still wonderin'

The first time Katsuki Bakugou met Izuku Midoriya he was five years old, sneaking down the stairs of his family home trying to understand why his parents were up so late at night. He remembered the first thing he saw of the boy was his glassy green and blue eyes filled with endless tears. Bakugou found it weird how the other boy could cry so hard without making a sound as he clinged to his mothers’ legs. What shocked Bakugou the most was his own mother who was holding the boy’s mother in her arms rubbing small circles on her back similar tears falling down her own cheeks.
“We have to tell someone what happened Inko”, Bakugou's mother pleaded. The woman in her hands shocked her head pulling the boy into her arms.
“If we go to the police he will know what Izuku can do, he will take my baby.” The strange woman explained. Bakugou slipped further into the living room. The adults were too occupied with their conversation to notice his presence.
The strange eyed boy noticed him though, his tears stopped as he stared at Bakugou. Bakugou found him strange, something about the way the boy seemed to look without looking. He had never seen someone with two different coloured eyes before. Maybe the boy had a mutant type quirk like he learned about in school. His thoughts were quickly interrupted when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He glanced up at his father who gave him a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“Katsuki, I want to introduce you to someone.” His father led him towards the strange boy and his mother.
“This is Izuku and his mother. They are going to be staying with us for a little while. How about you take Izuku to your room and get him settled, I’m sure you're both tired.” His father smiled gently at the boy.
Despite wanting to ask his father why the strange boy had to stay in his room, when he was pretty sure that’s what the guest room was for he still led him up the stairs to his room.
When Bakugou reached his room he asked the question that had been bothering him since he first laid eyes on the green headed boy.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?”
Izuku reached his hand up covering his turquoise eye and started crying again as he backed himself against the bedroom door.
“Gosh, you don’t have to answer the question if it's going to make you cry you deku!” Bakugou screamed before tossing a blanket towards the crying boy.
“You can sleep on this side of the bed.” He pointed towards the left side of the bed.
Bakugou crawled into his bed pulling the covers over his head, the dip of the bed alerting him that the boy had joined him.
“It's called heterochromia.”, a small voice whispered.
For the next eight months Bakugou would share his room with Izuku, finding the arrangement bearable when he learnt of the boy's shared love of heroes and All Might. He never learnt of the reason why the boy and his mother came to live with them but it didn’t matter. Bakugou was happy to have a friend with a quirk just as powerful as his and the lady Inko who he called auntie quickly became like a second mother.
Izuku and his mother moved out two weeks after his sixth birthday into an apartment down the street. Even though Bakugou would never admit it out loud he missed sharing his room with Izuku and the little desserts his auntie would make after they finished school. The new distance between the boys did nothing to weaken their bond as they continued to train and grow stronger together.
Izuku’s eleventh birthday was the first time Bakugou had ever heard Izuku talk about his father. Honestly he had just assumed the man was dead or deadbeat. Aunty never spoke of him and the one time he asked his mother she had told him in a tone so uncharacteristically low to never ask about him again. But there Izuku stood, hands clinging to a small blue birthday card with a smile so bright it could blind a man.
“Kacchan! My mom gave me this card, she said it was from my dad.” Izuku shoved the small card into his hands, pointing to the words written within.
Dear Izuku, happy birthday. Your mother tells me that you are a smart boy and I am happy to hear that you have been striving despite your circumstances. Your mother also told me that you are a big All Might fan. Personally I believe Endeavor would be a better role model but I digress. Due to my work it would be best for us to meet when you are older and can understand the complexity of my position.
-Best regards,
Your father
Bakugou stared at the card, wondering what about the letter could be making his friend smile so big.
“I don’t get it.” He says flatly, passing the card back to his smiling friend. Izuku laughed, jumping slightly as he hugged the letter to his chest.
“According to my mom, my dad has actually been the one paying for my Judo and English classes. All this time he has been taking care of me and my mom. He didn’t abandon us!”Izuku cheered.
Looking at his smiling friend Bakugou did something he never did and bit his tongue. Sure the man was paying for Izuku’s hobbies but they still had no idea what the man even looked like beyond the one blue eye that Izuku shared with him. At eleven Bakugou wasn’t sure what it was about the letter that left him feeling cold, but one thing he knew in his heart was that Izuku’s dad wasn’t a good man.
