Notes:
“I hope you enjoy everyone.”
Chapter Text
*Sans has had quite the interesting experience during this run. From the fact that the human he was trying to kill was a puppet to the first human who fell. To having said human helping him take care of the first and finally ending the genocidal cycle. Safe to say he’s had a weird time.*
*But now he held the first humans soul in his skeletal hands while he had a manic grin on his face. I guess his own personal genocide route worked in its own weird way. Finally, the cycle of dying over and over again could end…The monsters could have their peace again. And he had one person to thank for that.*
”Well kid, I guess I have to thank you for the help. We can finally make things right between you and the monsters…Let’s just hope they don’t have a ‘bone’ to pick with you after you apologize eh?” *Sans said tiredly before laughing at his pun. Only to realize that the human was dead silent, like every single time they met before.* “Hehe, silent as ever aren’t you? I wonder why you never spoke once over all these RESETS. Although I’m not going to ask you why. You don’t seem like one to talk much.”
*The human seemed to sigh at Sans’ continued jokes before taking the soul from his hands. Looking up at him with a regretful expression on their face as they gently held the soul as Sans placed a gentle hand on their shoulder.*
”Hehe, no need to look at me like that kid. I know that those first few routes were your doing, but everything after that wasn’t you. You were being used by a monster calling itself a kid and your friend. I know you have your regrets About what you did, and I know you genuinely want to change for the better. But if you really do want to change, you would never do a genocide route again…Okay?”
*That seemed to cheer the human up, with their frown morphing into a small smile as they nodded their head and gave Sans a hug. With the skeleton chuckling a little as he hugged the human back.*
”Thanks kid…Now, do a pal a favor and bring us back to the start would ya?” *Sans asked gently as his red DETERMINED eyes faded to their original pure white. With the human soon releasing the soul as it began to shake.*
*Within moments of the human releasing the soul, it began to crack. Small, unnoticeable cracks at first. But it eventually looked like the world’s most fragile vase. And once the soul broke open, a bright light exploded out of it.*
*Sans couldn’t help but smile once the light washed over him. A single tear falling from his eye and rolling down his cheek as he spoke a few words before he was RESET.*
”Well Paps, I hope you have some spaghetti for us when I get home…”
*And with that, Sans’ vision was nothing but white before he fell unconscious.*
*Dirt, flowers, wind, frogs, that was only some of the things that Sans could hear and feel around him. And as the skeleton slowly opened his eyes, he was confused. Why? Because he was in a place that looked nothing like a place in the underground.*
*He could actually see a starry night sky, something he hadn’t seen in oh so long. Not only that, there were trees and plants that glowed with beautiful blue and white lights like in Waterfall. But there were also things he had never actually seen before. Like a floating green orb that looked an atom floating around.*
”Where in the world am I?…” *Sans asked to himself as he rose to his feet and looked around his new unfamiliar surroundings. Walking onwards as he stuffed his hands into his hoodie pockets.*
*The sound of crunching leaves and undergrowth echoed through his mind as he walked through this ethereal and beautiful forest. But as he looked behind him, he noticed that a trail of dust was following him wherever he walked.*
”Heh, looks like I need to ‘dust’ myself off don’t I? Hehehe…”
*After making that small, dark pun,-For Sans anyway-The skeleton continued through the mystical forest he had found himself in. With beautiful overgrowth and and flowers surrounding him wherever he went.*
*Eventually, he decided to try and talk to one of the flowers. Just to see if it talk to him like Papyrus’s friend.*
”Say ‘bud’, I wouldn’t want to ‘root’ you out of your privacy. But I’m getting pretty bored out here, got any information about this place for me?” *Sans asked as he raised one of his eyebrows in curiosity. But much to Sans’ dismay, the flower gave no reply to to him.*
*Sans sighed sadly as he stared at the star filled sky. With his mind wandering to all the friends he had back in the underground. Toriel, Paps, Undyne, Alphys, Asgore…Was time moving forwards without him? Was he eventually going to be forgotten about? Would anyone…Miss h-*
”Begone outsider!”
(WHAT WAS THAT? IS THAT THEM? DON’T TRUST THEM. THEY’LL JUST DO IT ALL AGAIN.) *Is what rang through Sans’ head as he looked up and was hit in the shoulder by an arrow. With his eyes turning red as he looked towards whoever shot him with the arrow.* “He-Hey! I don’t mean a-any harm ok? J-Just calm down a little…”
*But wait, shouldn’t that arrow have killed Sans? Shouldn’t the RESET have sent him back to 1 HP? How did he still have his stats?*
*Sans would have to think about that later though because the figure who shot him walked out from beyond a more foggy area. Revealing them to be some sort of humanoid gingerbread cookie with pure white skin and a white suit with small pieces of armor attached as well. They were holding a bow that reflected the moonlight off it as their faerie wings jittered a little.*
”Foolish words coming from an outsider. What brings a Cookie like…L-Like…What are you?”
*The Cookie lowered his bow as he became very confused to seeing the…thing in front of him. With Sans barring a grin as he pulled the arrow out of his shoulder before letting a more lax smile grew on his face.*
“I’m what’s called a skeleton bud, and you can call me Sans. But don’t worry, I’m not going to talk your ear off about me. I’d like to learn more about you. What’s your name? And why so fancy? Got a date planned?” *Sans teased jokingly as the Cookie quickly shook his head.*
”No, n-no I’m not. It’s just how I dress. Silverbell Cookie, it’s nice to meet you Sans. Although, I would recommend cleaning all of that dust off of you.”
*Silverbell? Who in the world would create a Cookie with a type of flower? A wizard or a witch? Well…To be honest that actually kinda makes sense now that Sans thinks about it.*
”Heh, it’s nice to meet ya Sliverbell. Now that we’re officially pals, why don’t you show me some sort of ‘sliver’ lining and ‘bake’ some good luck?” *Sans joked around before laughing a little bit at his own-admittedly bad-puns. But he immediately froze once he heard a familiar voice ring through his mind…Paps.*
“OH COME ON BROTHER, SURELY YOU DON’T TRUST THIS COOKIE? JUST KILL THEM AND MOVE ON. YOU’LL NEED THE EXTRA EXP.”
”Uh…Are you okay?” *Silverbell asked as Sans snapped out of his slight mental stupor. With the skeleton quickly nodding as he nervously smiled.*
”Ye-Yeah, let’s j-just get going.”
*Sans then walked past Silverbell and nervously shook his head as he continued down the path. With Silverbell following behind with slight concern on his face.*
*Sans had to admit, Silverbell is quite the nice guy. Not only did he like his puns and personality, he also told him a lot about where he was. Earthbread was created by a coven of witches a long time ago, populated by Cookies and other creatures made from confectionery delights. He also told him about ‘Soul Jams’, essentially what Sans would call souls back in the underground, except for the fact that they gave the bearer powers.*
*But oddly enough, when Sans asked who had them, Silverbell froze up and said it ‘wasn’t important’. Odd…*
*But just as Sans was about to ask why it wasn’t important, Silverbell stopped in front of…Nothing? Why in the world were they stopping?*
”Um, why are we stopping bud? Is it something I can’t see? I’ve got a pretty good ‘eye’dea it’s that.” *Sans joked as Sliverbell holstered his bow. And after that, began to ring a small bell on a tree.*
”You’ll soon see my friend.”
*Sans lifted one of his eyebrows in curiosity before hearing the sound of a large gate opening. And after he turned back to his front, he saw an entire kingdom made of silver in front of him. Invisible to the naked eye except for seemingly Silverbell. And it’s safe to say, his jaw nearly fell off his face as Silverbell led him inside the gates.*
”Ah, Silverbell. Who is this weary outsider you have brought inside?” *One of the gate guards asked asked as Silverbell simply flashed him a smile.*
”Just a new friend I’ve made.”
*Sans looked around this kingdom of silver with wide eyes as he saw residents go about their daily lives. The sliver homes, armor, the huge library. And to top it all off, the gigantic silver tree in the center of the kingdom.*
”NYEH HEH HEH HEH…LOOK AT ALL THIS FREE EXP BROTHER!” *The phantom vision of his brother said darkly as Sans sighed and answered back quietly.*
”Which we don’t really need bro.”
*But as Sans was essentially being dragged along by Silverbell, he noticed a map that peaked his interest. It was a map of the current region of Earthbread they were on-Which Silverbell called Beast Yeast-but, it was nothing like any map he had seen before.*
*The Faerie Kingdom (Which had a little ‘you are here’ arrow on top of it.) was circled in with a green marker and labeled a ‘safe zone’. And everywhere else was marked with blue, pink, white, red, and purple and marked with words such as ‘Keep out!’ ‘Danger’’ and ‘Beasts domain’. Beasts eh? Guess he’ll have to check those out later…*
”Good evening Silverbell, how did your patrol go? And who is this you brought inside our kingdom?” *A stern, almost emotionless voice asked as Sans refocused on what was in front of him. Seeing Silverbell shake the hand of Cookie with dark grey skin and pure silver armor.*
”Good evening to you too Mercurial Knight. My patrol has gone very well, and this is one of my new friends! Sans, meet Mercurial Knight, Mercurial Knight, meet Sans.”
*Sans couldn’t help but grin as he saw Mercurial Knight extend his hand out for him to shake. Extending his own hand outwards and gripping Mercurial Knight’s hand. And as he did…*
*PPPPPPPPFFFFftttttrppttghtpffff…*
”Hehe, good ol’ whoopee cushion in the palm trick. Never gets old does it?” *Sans said before bursting into a fit of giggles. With Mercurial Knight staring at him with an unamused expression.*
”…I already don’t like you.”
”Oh come on bud, wouldn’t you like to ‘toot’ my horn? Hehehehehe.” *Sans joked as Mercurial Knights expression soured even more.*
”Well, um, S-Sans! Would you like to join us for nightly banquet? You might want to get to know some more Faeries.”
*A banquet? Probably not as good as Grillbies, but he’s not one to pass free food is he?*
”Sure, I’ll just need to get ready some. But you can definitely count on me being there. I’m not some lazy ‘bones’.” *Sans joked as he walked off to ‘get ready’. But just before he was out of eye and ear shot…* “Hey! Just make sure you bring ketchup there!”
”Ok!…Wait, why do you need ketchup?”
”To drink of course!” *Sans shout responded before finally vanishing out of the two faeries sight. With the two of them simply looking both weirded out and kinda disgusted.*
”You have made quite the weird friend Silverbell.”
*Sans made sure no one could see or hear him before he let out a relieved sigh.*
”Well aren’t I glad I wasn’t caught? Now let’s see what they mean by the rest of this continent being Beast lairs.” *Sans said before deciding to teleport to the ‘Deceit’ area of Beast Yeast. Which, by what Sans got on the map, was supposed to have a large spire near a large amount of lakes.*
*But once teleported to where the spire was supposed to be, there was…Nothing? No, there was truly nothing there when Sans teleported there. All he could see was a large ring in a patch of grass and a village with houses made of juice boxes.*
”Huh, I guess that’s why this place is called the land of lies and deceit. That map actually lied to me.”
*But just as Sans was about to teleport back to the Faerie kingdom, he noticed a young kid playing around with a plushie sitting in front of a tree. Maybe he could ask him some questions and get some answers.*
”Hey kiddo, mind if I ask where this interesting spire is? I was wondering if it didn’t exist and was just a part of the whole ‘lying’ and ‘deceit’ thing, but I have the feeling it’s actually meant to exist.” *Sans asked before taking a seat next to the boy.* “Also, does your plushie have a name?”
”Huh? Oh, ye-yeah, there’s supposed to be a spire there. But with the master of the spire sealed away, it’s not there currently…A-And her name is Chip.”
“Chip eh? Nice name kiddo. But why exactly is this so called master sealed away? I’m not exactly well informed on this.” *Sans asked curiously as the boy smiled from him liking his plushies choice of name.*
”Thanks, as for why the master of the spire isn’t here? He and his friends are currently sealed away in the silver tree. D-Don’t ask why…”
*The kids answer intrigued Sans, why didn’t the kid want to tell him why the master of the spire was sealed? And what about his friends? What did any of them do?*
”Huh, well thanks for the answers kid. I hope you have a good day. And make sure Chip has a good day too.” *Sans said softly before teleporting back to the Faerie kingdom. With the boy smiling as Sans vanished.*
”I will, thank you…”
*The rest of Sans’ day in this sweet new world was pretty straightforward. He got used to the surroundings of the Faerie Kingdom, got to enjoy a pretty nice banquet, and essentially had a pun war with Silverbell at the end of the day. (Something he definitely won by the way.)*
*But he was also pretty exhausted from the day’s events. Thankfully, Silverbell had found him a home to stay at for the time being. And said house was small, but comfy in Sans’ eyes. Just the kind of house he loved.*
”Ah…Well isn’t this just the loveliest house? Well, besides my real home of course…The one I might n-never see again…” *Sans said with a sad sigh before deciding to go to sleep. Walking into his temporary bedroom with a sad frown.*
*But just before he went to bed, Sans reached into his front jacket pocket and pulled out a long, red scarf from it. Wrapping it around his neck as he sadly smiled and laid down.*
”I hope I can see you soon Paps, I have a lot of explaining to do when I get home…”
*Sans then closed his eyes and fell into a blissful slumber. With the scarf providing a lot of comfort as his mind tried to dream happy dreams…*
*But that wasn’t meant to be he supposed, because he heard something like slithering and hissing around him. And once he opened his eyes, he found himself being circled by black and blue snakes.*
*Sans jumped to his feet as the snakes slithered away from him. And Sans found himself in what could only be described as an inky black void with playing cards, phantom eyes, and items normally seen with a jester floating around him.*
*And before Sans could even ask what in the world was going on, he heard some of the most insane and manic laughter he had ever besides Jevil.*
”Oh ho ho ho! Well lookie here! The one who tried to visit my spire today gets to meet me in person.” *A voice said with unhinged glee. With the voice belonging to a Blue skinned Cookie with light blue and dark blue eyes, along with attire fitting of a court jester. But his broach also contained an oddly shaped gem with an eye in the center of it.* “Oh how honored I am to meet you!”
”Uh…I’m guessing you’re the ‘master of the spire’ I was trying to meet?”
”Why yes I am! You may call me Shadow Milk Cookie new friend! But I don’t believe you ever said yours when you visited my spire. Don’t ask how I know, for nothing happens at my spire without me knowing…” *Shadow Milk said with a cocky smirk on his face. An air of pompous and self righteous emanating from his very being as he held the smile.*
”Sans, nice to meet you pal. So if you really know what happened back at where your spire, you probably know what questions I asked and the answers to them?”
”Why yes I do! But don’t expect me to tell the truth, kinda ruins my image as the beast of deceit doesn’t it?” *Shadow Milk said snidely before clearing his throat.* “I was originally called the Fount of all Knowledge, reflecting my original virtue of Knowledge. But eventually, after doing my original job so well, I started to realize…Knowledge was so BORING!!! So I decided to turn to lies and deceit to cure my boredom! Oh the looks on warring kingdoms faces once they learn they’ve been duped…Priceless. But that got me trapped inside this musty, stupid tree. But heed my words, once I’m out, I’ll make those prissy Faeries regret ever siding with the witches…As for my old friends? You’ll have to ask them yourself Sans. I don’t even consider them my friends anymore! They got far too stale for me…”
”Heh, thanks for the answers Shadow Milk. But while I do know you didn’t lie every single time you answered, I do know you lied about your reason for becoming like…this, and you not missing your friends.”
”Ha! And they call me the biggest liar in Earthbread. Tell me bonesy, how do you possibly know what were lies and truths?” *Shadow Milk asked confidently as Sans simply flashed a lazy smile.*
”Simple answer, your soul says it all.”
”…E-Excuse me?” *Shadow Milk asked in confusion before looking down at his Soul Jam, which was glowing with a soft blue glow for seemingly no reason. But that was before he noticed Sans’ outstretched arm.* “H-How did you-?”
”I’ve known it all my life bud. And while your Soul Jam isn’t exactly like a soul, it still has some similarities. Like me being able to read both. And I know your true feelings behind your words.”
”H-Haha! P-Prove it kn-know it all!” *Shadow Milk asked as he suddenly became incredibly nervous and defensive.*
”Well, what you really meant to say was that you learned a truth that essentially broke your mind. So you turned to lying to everyone because you felt like no one would ever truly understand what you’re going through. But as a consequence of that…You alienated yourself from everyone in the world. Your friends, the witches, the faeries, everything and everyone…Because your trauma from learning an awful truth.”
*Shadow Milk froze as Sans essentially hit the nail on the head from what he was trying to hide. His mouth slightly twitching as Sans said more words that shocked him even more.*
”And I know you may not believe this yourself, but I still believe there’s hope for you to change. Do you know why I believe that?…Because while I may not have lied to everyone I loved, I did something so much worse…I had to kill them all. To do something I also thought would bring a lot of good, but instead ruined oh so many lives, even my own brothers…And why you don’t know this is because I’m not exactly from around these parts, I’m not even from this world entirely. So yeah, I practically ended my own world because I wanted to make a difference. But I still managed to realize that was wrong with the help of a…certain someone. And if I can do that after something like that…Then I know you can too. You just need to open up and fix your relationship with your friends.” *Sans said softly and sympathetically before turning around to leave.* “And hey, if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m right here bud.”
*Sans then began to walk away from Shadow Milk as the former simply stared at him with shock and disbelief. But that was quickly replaced with quiet laughter…*
”Hehehehe…Hehehahahaha! HAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU ARE THE BIGGEST LIAR I’VE EVER MET! You don’t know how I truly feel! All those w-were just…W-Were just lies to make me feel better! I bet you even made up that sob story to make me relate to you!” (But Sans…Our promise…) (You know, me and brother would bet to see if you broke! THANKS FOR PROVING ME RIGHT.)
*Sans stopped walking as the voices of his former friends rang through his head. His expression darkening as Shadow Milk seemed to get a kick out of it.*
”Struck a nerve, did I?” *Shadow Milk asked with a vicious smile before continuing.* “Oh, I know why, because all your friends are waiting back home in your ‘SepERatE WorLd’ with a party aren’t they liar?!” (Sans…He was your BROTHER AND MY PROTEGE! WHY?!?) (I-It won’t b-be in vain P-Paps, I promise…)
”…”
”Stopped talking? I thought liars like you were meant to yap all day! Even if you weren’t lying, I bet you don’t regret a single thing!” (Sans, I’m doing this for all monsterkind…Please, show your king mercy…) (YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A FAILURE SANS. =))
”…I’m going to give you one chance to shut up pal. And if you don’t…You’ll regret even opening your mouth as a kid.” *Sans said as tears fell down his face and as his grin started become manic and crazed. With his pupils becoming blood red as he stared at Shadow Milk.*
”Oh really?…Nice scarf, but since you’re blue, I bet it belonged to your brother who loved red? Well let me tell you this…You’re brother never really loved you, especially after you killed him.” (S-SANS! PL-PLEASE, I KNOW WE CAN TALK THIS OUT!) (KEEP GOING BROTHER, YOU’RE SO CLOSE TO THE FINISH LINE. NYEH HEH HEH HAAAAAAAA!!!)
”…He heh, well that’s how you want to play it out eh? Well…” *Sans said with white rage and sadness in his voice as he summoned a Gaster Blaster. With his bad time eye flashing multiple colors and Sans’ body began to shake.* “D O N ‘ T S A Y I D I D N ‘ T W A R N Y O U.”
*The Gaster Blaster then fired directly at Shadow Milk and sent him flying into the wall behind him. With all the air taken out of him as he felt jam start to drip out of his mouth and his head from the impact. With the jam covering one of his eyes as he tried to get to his feet. But then Sans essentially took control of the Soul Jam and brought Shadow Milk face to face with him.*
”W-W-Woah h-hey buddy! I-I didn’t mean t-to ma-make you mad! I w-was just joking a-ar-GRKKKKK?!”
”JOKE? YOU THINK ALL OF WHAT I’VE GONE THROUGH IS A J O K E?! LISTEN HERE BUD, I KNOW YOU ALIENATED ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AND BECAME A LONELY MILKSOP, BUT I KNOW FOR A FACT YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO SEE THEM DIE AGAIN, AND A G A I N, A N D A G A I N!!!!!!” *Sans screamed as he threw Shadow Milk to the left wall, causing the Beast to essentially cower in fear as more jam fell his now injured legs and arms.* “*Sighs*…Look, I-I know there’s still good in you and I know you can change. But not if you continue to act like this. And definitely not if you don’t open up to others about your issues. But I don’t think I’m the one who’s meant to fix you aren’t I? You’re supposed to fix yourself. So…I guess I have to leave you to that.”
*And with those words, Sans left Shadow Milk to both lick his wounds and to hopefully reflect on what’s been said. But while on the outside, Shadow Milk had already disregarded what Sans told him. On the inside…A change had begun to brew.*
”H-Hahahaha…He really is t-the biggest liar e-ever! I-I’m fine like th-this, I don’t need to change, I don’t need friends! I don’t need to open up! N-No one, not even my other half will understand m-me…R-Right? B-But…M-Maybe…Maybe h-he does…”
*Shadow Milk sat there as he clutched his injured arms and let tears fall down his face. With a small part of his being hoping, no praying that maybe…Sans was right.*
Chapter 2: Blissful joy.
Summary:
“Sans gets an audience with the current king of the Faeries and gets a fairly big info dump, then visits a paradise inside Beast-Yeast.”
Notes:
“Have a fun read!”
Chapter Text
*Sans woke up and immediately realized two things, the first was that the blanket he covered himself with was drenched. And once he took it off, discovered that his shirt and hoodie were also drenched. But by what exactly?*
*Well that was the second thing he realized happened during his sleep, his eyes were extremely puffy and he a few tear stains on his cheeks. Guess that’s why everything near him is drenched, he had one of the worlds largest crying fits in his sleep.*
”Heh, guess my emotions in that dream bled into reality didn’t they?” *Sans asked with some humor in his voice as he got up from his bed. Deciding that he would definitely clean this up…Later.*
*So after Sans placed Paps’ scarf back in his jacket pocket and raised his hood over his head, he decided that a little breakfast would do him some good. So he walked over to the fridge inside his temporary abode and checked what was inside.*
”Hmm…A lot things that look like steak in here, just made with jelly instead of beef. Let’s just hope I don’t eat like a ‘cow’. Hehehe.”
*Sans then grabbed a bottle of ketchup and a decent amount of the smaller steak looking objects and dumping them on a plate. Placing them in the microwave for about 2 minutes before taking them out.*
*So after Sans downed the entire bottle of ketchup in about 5 seconds, Sans took one of the small jelly steaks and took a decently sized bite out of it. And he had to admit, it was pretty good. The sweetest paired with the richness of an original steak paired pretty well.*
”Well, this isn’t half bad. Hey Paps, wanna give this a…try…” *Sans said as he almost pushed the plate towards his brother…Only to remember that he wasn’t exactly there.* “R-Right, forgot you weren’t here…*Sigh* I miss you bro…”
”HEY! YOU STILL HAVE ME YOU KNOW?!”
”But you’re just a figment of my imagination, so you don’t count.” *Sans said with a sly smile as he continued to eat on his own. Sometimes sadly looking up and hoping that his brother would be in front of him.*
*After Sans got finished eating his jelly steaks, he threw the empty ketchup bottle away and placed his plate in the nearby sink. But as he walked away from the sink, normally intending to never do it, he stopped and realized something.*
”You know, if Paps WERE here, he wouldn’t really…Like this…”
*Sans then sighed before walking back to the sink and looked at the dirty dish inside its silver body. Deciding that for the first time in maybe his whole life…He would wash a dirty dish.*
*And how did he do on his first attempt? Actually…Kinda well? Sure, it wasn’t completely cleaned of everything. But it was still pretty clean.*
*But just before Sans was about to finish cleaning it, he heard a few knocks at his front door. And once he opened it, he saw the all too familiar stern face of Mercurial Knight.*
”Good morning, I take it you slept well?” *The knight asked as he crossed his arms and waited for the skeleton to respond.*
”Heh, of course I did bud. I’m not called lazy bones for nothing aren’t I?”
”Heh, I suppose that makes sense then.” *Mercurial Knight said with an unenthusiastic laugh before he got straight to the point.* “Our king wants to meet with you, and you’d best be on your best behavior. I don’t want you to start what you did at the feast with Silverbell yesterday.”
”Oh come on, it was just a few harmless puns being thrown around. You’re just too much of a ‘fun’gi sucker that you don’t know what fun is. Now if you please excuse me, I need to go get ready.”
*Sans then calmly shut the door and walked away from it. All the while Mercurial Knight just sighed and stood outside, waiting for this odd outsider to get himself ready. And it took the skeleton about ten minutes before he came out.*
“Alright, I’m done.” *Sans said as he walked out of his home…With zero changes whatsoever.*
“Um…But nothing on your person has changed?”
”Hey, this is the only thing I wear. And does it look like I have any hair to fix? But hey, I worked myself ‘to the bone’ alright?” *Sans said jokingly as he walked towards where he thinks the king is. With Mercurial Knight just sighing at him.*
”I wonder what possessed you to become friends with this outsider Silverbell.”
*Sans knelt onto one of his knees in respect as the king of the Faeries walked out to greet him. And Sans had to admit, the king had a…very powerful soul in his opinion.*
*Sans could just feel the power and strength emanating from him. And he didn’t know why, but it actually kinda intimidated him. But hey, at least he knew that he wasn’t going to kill him…Maybe.*
”Sans, met our king Elder Faerie Cookie. Our king, meet Sans.” *Silverbell said kindly as Sans rose to his feet to meet the kings gaze.*
”Nice to meet ya Elder Faerie.”
”Likewise.” *The king said with an admittedly soft voice from his tough appearance. Shaking Sans’ hand with a firm grip.* “I have already heard of your exploits here, and I must say, you’re quite the…Interesting character.”
”Hehe, I get that a lot. But I have to ask, why did you want to meet with me? Did I accidentally do something to make you mad?”
”No no, it’s not that. It’s just that me and my subjects have noticed you’re quite…Confused about Earthbread and its past. So I have summoned you so I could fill the gaps in your knowledge my friend.” *Elder Faerie calmly explained as Sans couldn’t help but smile appreciatively.*
”Heh, thanks bud. I appreciate it a lot. Knowing more about your surroundings than knowing less definitely increases your chances of not…Well, dying.”
”…Uh…I guess you have a point? But I was thinking more of…Getting to know the lay of the land better.” *Elder Faerie said with some nervousness to his voice at Sans’ answer. But Sans just simply shrugged his shoulders.*
”Eh, potato potatoe in my eyes. Just tell me what I need to know and I’m set.”
”Um…Ok then?” *Elder Faerie said with a confused and concerned expression before focusing. Clearing his throat as he started to his long explanation.* “At the dawn of our lands. Our creators, the Witches, created the five Soul Jams with five powerful virtues that would inhabit them. Knowledge, Happiness, Volition, Change, and Solidarity. Creating five adult vessels to wield their power and help develop Earthbread as heroes. But…It wasn’t long before they turned to villainy. No to this day truly knows why or how this happened, but the Witches knew they had to contain their creations. So they created the silver tree and locked them inside, instructing us Faeries to look after the tree to make sure the Beasts never escape. But not only did they contain them. They split their Soul Jams in two so if they do manage to escape, they wouldn’t be as strong as they are. Sending the new lights of Truth, Passion, Resolve, Abundance, and Freedom across the world so more worthy Cookies could use them…And that brings us to today.”
*Sans nodded at Elder Faeries long explanation on the past of Earthbread. A content expression as he absorbed it into his mind. But…Sans felt a bit confused about how…Fast the Witches decided to lock their own creations away. Shouldn’t they at least listen to their side of the story first before making a decision? Heck, the immediate adult vessel thing also made him feel a bit uncomfortable. They should at least have them develop as children so they could learn responsibility and their powers, no one could just deal with power immediately getting given to them. Trust me…He already knows that well.*
”Well, thanks for all the information Elder Faerie. But…I do have some complaints on how your creators dealt with the whole making some heroes thing.”
”Really, why is that friend?”
”Well…Don’t you think that the Witches jumped onto one solution a bit too quickly? If I were in their shoes, I would at least try to ask what happened to them. Then I would go on from there.”
*The Faeries looked at Sans with surprise before thinking about his words. With Silverbell timidly speaking up after a bit of thought.*
”W-Well, I suppose there is some truth to your words. We would’ve gotten some answers about what caused them to fall if we talked to them.” *Silverbell realized as he remembered the slight pain and sadness in the Beasts eyes as they were sealed away.*
”Exactly, and why didn’t they let them grow up? Even though adults are meant to mature, they need to learn how to be mature through childhood experiences. Especially when they are given powers beyond a normal person’s imagination.”
”Well, I suppose that does make sense. I believe that’s what happened with the new Ancients. And they’ve been able to stay in the light…Why didn’t our creators do that with the Beasts?” *Mercurial Knight wondered as as he tapped his foot a few times. His wings fluttering slightly as he closed his eyes in thought.*
”Well, maybe they learned from their mistakes. But I’m surprised the thought never crossed their minds. Elder Faerie, did you ever try to suggest changes to what the Witches would do with the Beasts? I have heard you were pretty close to them.”
”Ah, We-Well…I did try to place my own suggestions in to help our creators with their endeavors. And yet…And yet…” *Elder Faerie said with regret in his voice before he eventually got his words out.* “All they told me was that we never truly mattered to them.”
”…Excuse me?”
*That dark, almost mad question was enough to make the three Faeries shake. It was like the fear of the gods above were placed into them at that moment before they regained their composure.*
”Y-Yes, the Witches said that we were below them. That we were nothing but l-life they created to be soon left to our own devices. That they would only help…If something happened that could endanger them, not us Cookies.” *Elder Faerie said shakily as Sans’ face completely blacked out. With the skeleton saying just a few simple words.*
”I think I need to go…”
*With that, Sans teleported away to a completely random location within Beast Yeast. Leaving the three Faeries to themselves.*
”My king…Why did you never tell us this?” *Silverbell asked as Elder Faerie simply stared at the ground. A solemn frown on his face as he slowly shook his head.*
”Because some truths are never to be learned…”
*Sans felt his feet touch solid ground as bad memories of the human’s genocide route began to flood his mind. The whole ‘our creators didn’t care’ resonating with him as he simply stared at the ground.*
”NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!!! DID YOU HEAR THAT BROTHER?! THEIR OWN CREATORS DON’T EVEN CARE FOR THEM! SO YOU WON’T HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT TAKING THEIR EXP!” *The ghostly apparition of his brother said with all the joy in the world. With Sans just looking at the ground and shaking his head.*
”Don’t…Don’t talk to me right now Paps. I-I need time t-to think…”
*Sans regained his composure as he managed to raise his head and get a look at where he ended up. With his eyes widening slightly as he saw the type of place he had winded up in.*
*It was so serene, with cherubs flying around as Cookies lazed around and let the time pass on by. With many staring at the sky or just feasting on their favorite foods.*
*Sans also noticed some…Weird stuff walking around. Like sour strip orbs that looked a lot like biblically accurate angels and moving candy…merry go rounds? What is this, the garden of earthly delights painting the human told him about?*
*That’s when Sans realized that this was most likely the pink area of Beast-Yeast. The Garden of Sloth was it? Guess that’s why it looks so similar to the description the human gave him back in the day. And hey, since it’s actually here right now, why not explore?*
*So explore Sans did, looking at all the jellybean trees, the rivers of the strangest purple liquid he’s seen, and the large heart that seemed to be the center of this gigantic garden. And he had to admit, it had a…Hint of beauty to it in its own weird way.*
*But this place had some things that were…off. When he tried to talk to anyone, they would ignore him like he wasn’t even there. There were statues that creepily looked a little too Cookie like for his opinion. And a lot of its inhabitants looked injured. But why? There was nothing here that could possibly get them hurt, so why did they look so badly wounded?*
*The thing that actually caught his attention the most however was a fountain surrounding the statue of the Beast who seemed to run this place. She wore a toga that drooped a little at her shoulders, had long hair that ended in two long curls, large wings that seemed to envelop her entire body if she hugged herself with them, a lyre, a halo to compliment her angelic appearance, and a crown with what seemed to be her Soul Jam in it. With said Soul Jam being a rigid upside down heart.*
*Sans had to admit, she was a lot more friendly looking than Shadow Milk was. And if his skin color and hair matched his Soul Jam color, he could guess the same would be for this angelic Beast.*
*But he supposed that when he went to bed, he would learn what this Cookie both looked like, and what trauma they’re forced to carry around.*
*Sans stared at the ceiling from his bed with tired eyes as he tried his best to fall asleep. But surprisingly, even though he had been to quite the slothful place earlier, he was still having a hard time sleeping.*
*Sans just sighed before eventually deciding to reflect on the past, everything that happened during all the genocides and the last route…Who was the other human? He knew the human in red and blue for sure, but who was that other one in…Green and yellow…No…It couldn’t be the first human Toriel told him about, right? They were meant to be dead…Right?*
”What ails you my friend?” *A soft, sudden voice asked as Sans opened his eyes with some shock. With him now being on a cloud right in some sort of heavenly space. With the Beast of Sloth right in front of him.*
”Uhhhhhhhh…I was trying to catch some Z’s bud. And aren’t you meant to be the Beast of Sloth? You should be incredibly sleepy right?”
”Oh no no no, of course not! Everyone may call me a Beast, but I simply wish to do the best for others! You must’ve known this already, you have visited my wonderful Sugar Paradise.” *The Beast said with a joyful smile as she played a few soft notes on her lyre.*
”The best?…Ohhhhhhhhh, you mean by making your paradise a place where everyone just lazes around. I have a feeling the old me would’ve loved that…What’s your name? You can call me Sans.”
“Eternal Sugar Cookie, it is nice to meet you Sans.” *Eternal Sugar said with a gentle smile as she slowly yawned.* “But what brings you to my place of imprisonment? I am quite flattered by it nonetheless, but what do you want of me?”
*Oh this should be fun.*
”Just some answers on what happened to you. Nothing more, not much else.”
”Ah, of course my friend! I would love to tell you about my life. For it does hold the answers that you seek.” *Eternal Sugar said as she got comfortable where she was sitting. With her focus breaking long enough for Sans to start reading her Soul Jam.* “I used to be even more joyful than how you see me now. Giving the entire Cookie world all the joy and peace it could ever possibly need! But all of that eventually got too tiring to take care of, so I created a paradise for them all to enjoy forevermore. A place where they could be happy…Forever!”
”Heh, well that’s a good thing to do…Kinda. But I have heard of your other Soul Jam half. What do you think of them?”
”Well, you may think of what I do as you wish.” *Eternal Sugar said with some thoughts of her ‘perfect paradise’. But her expression immediately turned into something more akin to love at the mention of her other half.* “Oh, you must mean my dearest Hollyberry Cookie. The one who I love with all my heart and soul. I can’t wait to hold her close to me. She’ll love my garden with all of her heart too! Oh how I wish to be with her…”
”Uhh…You don’t exactly know if she’s going to like what you’re doing. She might hate it for all you know.”
”Oh but she must love it! I spent so long making it as perfect as can be for her and everyone else, so she mustn’t need to see suffer anymore! I’m sure she’ll give me all her happiness for my efforts.” *Eternal Sugar said with a love drunk expression on her face as she clutched the area over her heart.*
”…Alright then, but when did these feelings towards your other half Hollyberry start? Was it when you realized you might never get your old friends back?”
”Hm? We-Well…I suppose so. But they’re the ones who tore the bonds between us. So I do not wish to see them or speak to them again. I can never forgive them for what they’ve done to Cookiekind…” *Eternal Sugar said with a slightly miffed expression on her face as she crossed her arms. But Sans knew that was a lie from what he felt from her Soul Jam, so he decided to tell her something important.*
”Well then, I’m sure you know Shadow Milk right?”
”Ugh, that snake who loves to ruin my garden? Of course I know him. Why do you ask my friend?” *Eternal Sugar said with a disgusted expression as she raised her eyebrows.*
”Well, would your opinion change on him if I told you he missed you?”
”…H-He does?” *Eternal Sugar asked with shock in her voice as she looked around a few times.* “Th-This is another of h-his lies isn’t it?”
”Nope, he really does miss you and everyone else. I met him last night and I can tell he has issues just like you. And please, listen to my advice pal…You can’t control someone’s happiness. You need to have them decide what makes themselves happy, not what you think makes them happy. And trust me when I say this, I genuinely believe that you’re trying to do the right thing. You’re just doing it in one of the worst ways possible. I get that some people enjoy like being lazy, I’m a prime example of that…But not everyone enjoys that. And this ‘love’ you have with your other half is definitely not love, it’s an obsession with her. You’re not going to have anything close to a good relationship with her if you continue to let that grow. And hey, even if she doesn’t love you at all, I’m sure she would love to be friends with you. You seem like a genuinely sweet gal, you just need some actual help instead of imprisonment inside a tree.”
*Sans then gave the Beast a gentle hug and a few pats of comfort on the back. And from the expression on her face, Sans both knew this was first nice thing someone has done to her in a while, and that she really needed that.*
”Please take my advice seriously, you’re never going to help yourself if you don’t. And hey…Your creators made a ton more mistakes with you.” *Sans said before saluting and leaping off the cloud he and Eternal Sugar were on. Leaving the Beast of Sloth alone with her thoughts and what Sans had told her.*
”My friends…A-Actually miss m-me? A-And I can s-still provide h-happiness without telling o-others what they sh-should do?…And Hollyberry…M-Maybe h-he’s right…Maybe I should try to just be friends with her…Wh-Why do I feel h-happy just admitting that?”
*Eternal Sugar smiled as she felt some of her corruption slipped away from her mind. With a newfound hope for her and her friends…All placed on the shoulders of a skeleton.*

Chapter Text
*Sans had never exactly been known to be someone who woke up early and feel happy about it. But today was pretty different. Guess Eternal Sugar blessed him with a warm rest after his talk with her.*
*So after giving his arm and leg bones a good stretch, Sans got out of his bed and smiled.*
”Heh, that conversation with Eternal Sugar went a lot better than the one with Shadow Milk. Wonder if the rest are going to go that smooth…” *Sans wondered as he opened his fridge and pulled out one of the larger pieces of meat. Looking at it with hunger etched across his face.* “But I think I can think about it later. I’m feeling pretty hungry right now. I need to put some ‘meat on my bones’. Hehehehe.”
*Sans then found a complete grill that was-somehow-inside one of his drawers that he placed outside and got going. Placing the large chunk of meat on it as it started to heat up.*
”Hmmm…You know, what would Toriel think about this? I know that she’s not a cow, but cows and goats are apart of the same family. What would she feel about one of her closest friends eating her essentially?…Eh, best not think about it when I’m trying to get some morning energy. And meat is different than jelly, so it’s probably very different.”
*Sans then grabbed the medium well jelly and took a fairly big chunk out of it. Chewing for a bit before swallowing. But just before he was about to take a second bite out of the huge chunk of meat, he noticed a Faerie walking up to him. A Faerie who seemed to be quite the pensive type. A gentle smile as he pushed his glasses up so they could properly see Sans.*
”Why good morning to you mysterious outsider. It looks like you had quite the lovely rest no?” *The Faerie asked as Sans continued to eat his breakfast meat. With the skeleton nodding as he chewed his second bite.*
”I’d like to think I slept well, why do you ask bud?”
”Well, seeing as you have probably had no way of properly providing for yourself such as money, getting food, etc. I’ve decided to offer you a place of work at our library.” *The Faerie said as Sans became intrigued. A job? He didn’t exactly like working guard duty under his brother. But that was mainly caused by his laziness, and a job at a library sounds pretty peaceful.*
”…Well color me intrigued buddy.”
”Good, then you may call me Citric Acid Cookie. I work as one of the caretakers of the decor of our library, to keep its appeal to others of course. But before I tell you what you’ll be doing, have you any experience with a job before?” *Citric Acid Cookie asked as Sans thought for a moment. Tapping his boney chin a few times before shrugging his shoulders.*
”Does sentry duty with your brother as your boss count?”
”…Um, I suppose so. And it actually works a little with what you’ll be doing at the library. You’ll be guiding others around the library while also making sure no one is causing any trouble. Like stealing books, defacing items, among other things.” *Citric Acid explained as Sans smiled. Seems like this job is going to be right up his alley.*
”Well, seems like I have no reason to say no do I? When do I start buddy?”
”Today, you’ll have an hour to get ready for your time at our prestigious library. Please don’t be late on only your first day, I don’t want to regret taking you into our place of work. But I must take my leave now, the library isn’t going to clean itself.” *Citric Acid said as he took his leave. Leaving Sans to finish up his breakfast and tossing the bone he couldn’t eat aside.*
”Well, best get ready for my time at my new job. Don’t want my new pals at work to ‘throw the book at me’ on the first day. Hehehehe.”
*Sans had to admit, the library of the Faerie Kingdom looked a lot bigger than the one back in Snowdin. But it does make sense he suppose, this is an entire kingdom, not just a small town.*
*So after making sure he packed everything he thought he might need on the job in a large bag, he walked inside the library and was immediately surprised by the large amount of books inside. Something once again not seen in Snowdin.*
”Ah, our newest employee arrives. And just in time as well.” *Citric Acid said with an impressed smile on his face as he shook Sans’ hand.* “Welcome to our lovely library my friend. We hope you enjoy your time working here.”
”Thanks, I hope I enjoy my time here as well. But uh…This is definitely a lot bigger than a lot bigger than a lot of libraries I’ve ever been to. I’d be surprised if no one’s ever gotten lost in here.”
”Oh trust me, someone getting lost in here is almost a daily occurrence.” *A Faerie who was working reception said with a slightly tired voice. Taking a small sip of tea before looking at Sans.* “And before you ask or I forget, you can call me Chocolate Honey Cookie. Nice to meet you.”
”Nice to meet you too bud. Now…*Pulls out a notepad.* I’d like to know what to expect while I’m working here. So just tell me what I need to do and I’ll write it down.”
”Fair enough my friend, like I already told you earlier, part of your job is making sure nobody steals anything or vandalizes anything. But you’re also going to leading people around the library to help them find the books they want. Or if they’ve forgotten where they got a book, to inform them where the correct section is.” *Citric Acid explained as Sans jotted down everything he thought was important.*
”Alright then, but what about the specific sections of books? I’m going to need to know those too.”
”Ah, good point. The first two sections are books about the history of Earthbread and the Cookies. The next three are books for school and textbooks on magic. The next section is for books about fantasy or non-fiction stories. And the final four are books about our kingdom and others outside of Beast-Yeast. Oh, and the library is split into lower and upper sections. But they’re still apart of the same section.” *Citric Acid explained as Sans added more info to his notepad.*
”Got that…Alright, should be everything I need to know. Thanks bud, but I think I should go get started now.”
*But just as Sans was about to go get started with his day, he noticed something…Weird on the upper floor. It was a large set of grandiose double doors blocked off by exclusion tape. With the words ‘No one allowed in.’ Written all over the tape.*
”Huh…hey, any of you know what could be behind that door?” *Sans asked as the two Faeries just shrugged.*
”No, the king forbid anyone from even speaking of them. Let alone think of entering them. Says there’s a book in there with ‘Knowledge only he needs to know’.”
”Yeah, I actually heard of a curious Faerie who simply asked to enter the room and got immediately arrested for it. I hear he was even given a few years. Something important is in that room, and our king wants it hidden from everyone.” *Choclate Honey said as she took another sip of her tea. Adding some honey to it and using a spoon to stir it into the tea.*
”Hmmmmmm…Better make sure no one gets in there eh? There has to be a reason why it’s kept so ‘wrapped up’ eh? Guess he swallowed the key a long time ago. But, I’m not one to wonder about secrets. If he wants it hidden, why not keep it hidden?”
”I suppose that does make sense. Secrets are secrets for a reason. Though I can’t help but wonder what could be inside…” *Citric Acid said with some curiosity before he sighed.* “Though I’m better taking care of this library than in prison I suppose. It’s not my business to worry about what’s behind a set of doors. But my work is to keep this library afloat. Sans, go upstairs to keep an eye from above ok?”
”You got it bro, I-I mean boss…Sorry, just a habit I got from working under my brother for so long. But I guess I’ll see you later then.”
*Sans then teleported up to the upper balcony and leaned against it. Keeping an eye open for anyone who might be interested in doing something bad…For all of ten seconds before looking at the sealed off door.*
*Something about the door just seemed to…Speak to him. The door just seemed to pull himself to it like magnet putty and a metal object. Well, was he the putty and the door the metal object?…Eh, potato potatoe.*
“OH HO HO HO BROTHER, I NEVER TOOK YOU FOR ONE TO BREAK THE RULES.” *The specter of Sans’ brother said with glee as Sans just rolled his eyes.*
”I’m just wondering what’s behind the door Paps. I’m not going to go inside.”
”KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT BROTHER. I KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO, GO INSIDE BROTHER. NO ONES EVER GOING TO NOTICE…” *Papyrus said with a dark chuckle before disappearing into the depths of Sans’ mind.*
”You know…Eh, he is right if I teleport inside the room. So I might as well find out what’s so important in there…”
*Sans then focused and teleported into the sealed off room. Opening his eyes to find himself in quite the odd location. All it was just a room with a table with a book on it. What was so special about this?*
*Well, maybe the book had something inside it he could write down in his notepad. Heck, maybe that’s why this place is under lock and key. This book has something important inside it…Time to find out what that is.*
*Sans opened the dusty book and was immediately hit in the face with a plume of dust. Coughing for a solid few seconds before the dust cleared up.*
”Ack!…Man, that was a lot of dust. Guess that just shows how long this hasn’t been opened huh?” *Sans said before grabbing a chair and sitting down in it. Pulling out his notepad and flipping to the next piece of paper.* “Now let’s see what you got in here…”
*The first few pages of the book were nothing all that special. Just some stories of Cookies that weren’t all that important to him. The next few pages were a bit more interesting though.*
*It gave some more details on the Beasts that he didn’t know about. Such as giving their specific roles back when they were still heroes. Like Burning Spice protecting kingdoms until they eventually fell to ruin, or Rock Salt-Who would eventually become Silent Salt.-would be the glue for the Beasts. Given his virtue was that of Solidarity after all.*
”Ahhhhhh…Good to know, wonder what else this book has to offer?”
*Sans continued to read and jot down information from inside the book. Making sure he didn’t leave out any information that he thought would be massively important. But as he continued down the book, he noticed how it got more…Disturbing.*
*He saw how the Beasts began to fall one by one like bowling pins. With information like Shadow Milks lies causing entire nations to wage war on each other and Burning Spice essentially becoming suicidal and wishing for someone to kill him. With Sans starting to become pretty uncomfortable with how much the book was starting to resonate with him.*
*But as Sans got to the last page, it shook him to the core. It was a detailed account from Elder Faerie himself, detailing his request for aid from the Witches. And the passage he red made him both sickened and enraged.*
”I had asked the Witches to help us Cookies with dealing with the newly christened Beast Cookies. But they all seemed to laugh at me like I was a child who didn’t know how to act. Telling me words that I will always haunt me until I crumble…’The Beasts were nothing more but test runs to us. Simply tools to use for to be used for a period of time before discarding them. We only created them to see what the Soul Jams were capable of doing, and once we saw what would happen, we would either destroy them or give them to others more worthy. So I want you to help us…Create a tree of silver that will contain these Beasts until the earth itself goes still. And if you don’t…You can say farewell to your beloved Earthbread.’…I had no other choice but to follow their words. For I had to sacrifice five lives who could possibly be saved for everyone else…If anyone ever reads this, please…Forgive me.’ *The passage red out as Sans angrily wrote down every single word. Before he slammed the book shut and began to heavily breath.*
”T-Those…Those MONSTERS…Creating lives and heroes only for it to only be for something you wanted to succeed…A-And to throw them away af-after you’re happy…”
*Sans clutched his head as the memories of all the genocide routes began to flood his mind. With memories of his friends dying again, and again, and again playing like a broken record. With the pressure in his mind becoming too much as he punched the wall next to him and teleporting out of the room.*
*He couldn’t believe that a book that started out with praising the Witches as nothing but amazing people…Only to end with one of the worst things he had ever heard anyone doing. And who’s to say they hadn’t done anything else awful? They probably didn’t even end at making life just to be tools.*
*But for now, he was going to have to calm down and get his day done and over with. This library isn’t going to be protected and guided by itself.*
*Sans walked out of the library with a tired sigh. The day felt like it had gone on for a lot longer than he thought it would, especially after he red what was inside the book.*
*Learning the true intentions behind why the Witches created the Beasts just made him feel…Awful. It just felt so similar to what happened in the true lab, just at a much smaller scale.*
*But, guess it was now time to go to the third part of Beast-Yeast. But Sans had to wonder, which area was least likely to get him killed? Destruction was a definite no. Silence could either mean nothing was there or there was something silent but incredibly deadly there…But Apathy, that’s just being emotionless correct? Sounds fairly safe to visit. And a good place to clear his head.*
*So with a destination in mind, Sans closed his eyes and teleported to the so called Realm of Apathy. Opening his eyes to find a lot of mist…And a gigantic mountain right in front of him.*
”…Huh, forgot this place was in a mountain range.” *Sans said before noticing a large set of golden stairs going up the mountain. Something that was probably going to take an hour to climb up completely.* “Nope.”
*Sans then closed his eyes and snapped his fingers, teleporting to the near top of the stairs and looking out to the setting sun in the horizon. Which he had to admit, looked incredibly beautiful.*
”Hehe, knew teleporting up here would get me something nice to see. Though I do wonder what’s all the way up here.”
*Sans then continued up the rest of the stairs until he reached the top of the mountain. And his eyes were greeted by a pagoda built of gold and ivory. With a large statue of who seemed to be the Beast of Apathy while she was still the Virtue of Volition.*
*Walking around the gigantic statue and through the bridges above rivers of strange yellow liquids. Sans eventually made it inside the pagoda itself. Walking past scriptures of Mystic Flour before entering a large chamber.*
”Huh, wonder what this place is for?” *Sans asked as he walked towards the large stage in the center of the room. Looking down as he noticed a small tag on the ground.* “Hm?”
*Sans gently picked the tag up and wiped off the dust on the old tag. With it reading ‘Granter of wishes and the Master of Volition. Mystic Flour Cookie.’*
”The granter of wishes eh? Hehe…Well, I’m not sure if you can hear me Mystic Flour. Or if you even grant wishes anymore…But if you can, please grant my wish…I wish to go back home to my brother and friends. I miss th-them a lot, a-and I think they miss m-me…Or m-maybe they don’t…But even if they do or don’t, I just want to go home…Please…”
*Sans felt a few tears falling down his face as he asked his wish and gave his reason for his wish. With him sitting down and staring at the ground as they fell. And deep down…Sans knew that wish wasn’t going to be heard. Why would someone with no feelings listen to something like that?*
*And so with a sigh and few more tears, Sans focused his mind and teleported back to his home in the Faerie Kingdom. With the ivory pagoda becoming silent once more.*
*Sans laid down in his bed and thought about all he had learned today. The book, the Witches being revealed to be monsters, the names of all the Beasts…He had learned quite a bit from today.*
*But he knew he had to meet the third Beast tonight. Mystic Flour, formerly the Master of Volition, now the Beast of Apathy. Guess it’s time to…Wait, why does it sound so windy?*
”Ahhhh…What in the world…It’s so…Loud.” *Sans complained as he found himself in a null, white void. With specks of flour glazing past his face as he opened his face.* “Huh, that was almost as fast as pouring some flour. Hehe…Although, where is all this coming fr-“
*Sans froze as he turned around and saw what all the flour was coming from and what was making it. With dozens, if not hundreds of Cookies turning into flour as they all faded away…With Sans bristling with both fear and anger.*
”No…No, no no no no no…Th-That w-was just in my h-head! That didn’t happen, that didn’t happen, that-“
”Oh, that very much did happen figure in blue.” *A soft, almost dead voice said as Sans heard methodical footsteps walk up to him from behind. With Sans turning around to see Mystic Flour towering over him.* “It was beautiful, was it not? Seeing so many Cookies return to flour, all at peace…”
*Sans knew his eyes went red with DETERMINATION at Mystic Flours words. His body shaking some as he slightly turned his head.*
”Beautiful?…You think that…Was beautiful?”
*Sans had to physically stop himself from activating his bad time eye and actively trying to murder Mystic Flour. Just listening to her continue to talk.*
”Why of course, for they have reached their enlightenment. Just as I myself had. Realizing that their life is but a cycle. Be baked, crumble, rebake, crumble, over and over again…Only then do they realize that they must return to flour. Truly escaping that torturous existence.” *Mystic Flours explained as Sans started to heavily breath. His hands clenching as Mystic Flour opened one of her eyes curiously.* “Is something troubling you my friend? You seem to be unwell.”
”N-No, I’m fine…I’m just wondering how this seems fine to you. Doesn’t it just seem to become pointless after a while? Just asking from my own personal…Experiences.”
”Ha, how foolish of you to think my goal to help Cookiekind is foolish. And if it is pointless?…No, this has to be the way our kind is saved in the end.” *Mystic Flour said dismissively as she pat a spot next to her as she began to meditate.* “Have a seat and meditate with me, it will help you calm your mind.”
*Sans bristled at Mystic Flour for a moment before he managed to get himself together. Taking a seat and crossing his legs to place his hands on them. Sighing as he took a few deep breaths.*
”Thanks for that…Hey, why don’t you tell me how you ‘enlightened yourself’ as you put it?”
”Hm, I suppose I shall indulge you. No matter how much my words may be worthless eventually…” *Mystic Flour said dryly as she opened her eyes. Her white eyes piercing the mist around them as she began to tell her tale. Thankfully not noticing Sans connect to her Soul Jam.* “I used to be quite the foolish sort. Believing that Cookies were the purest of souls, and that they truly appreciated the wishes that I granted them…Until they started to get more greedy with their requests. Riches, everyone to pay attention to them…One even wished to start a war so they could profit off it. I would keep turning these wishes away…Until the Cookies I cherished so much betrayed me, attacking me and my servants to try and find supposed riches I had…They even killed the mother of my beloved Cloud Haetae…That’s when I had my epiphany. That the only way to save us Cookies…Was to return to our most basic material, flour…”
*Sans actually felt…Shocked with what Mystic Flour had told him. Her reason for falling was incredibly different than what he had red in the book. With her simply shutting herself away and loosing all emotion. But…History is written by the victor he supposed.*
”Oh…I-I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
”Don’t be so sorry figure in blue, it only serves to support my goal even more…” *Mystic Flour said before looking up at the sky filled with mist. A blank expression on her face as she simply looked to the sky.* “But your wish you asked today…It’s interesting.”
”Huh? Oh, the wish about me wanting to go home?”
”Yes…While it should have been as selfish as the others. Something about it made me…Question your intentions behind it. What ‘home’ do you wish to be sent to?” *Mystic Flour asked as her brow’s furrowed in curiosity.*
”Hehe, well…Let’s just say I’m not exactly from around these parts. And I’d rather be back home than here I suppose. And I think I have something to…Explain to everyone…But I have a question for you. Isn’t wanting everyone to believe in your enlightenment slightly selfish?”
”Excuse me? It isn’t selfish that I’m trying to help my fellow kind. I only want to save them all.” *Mystic Flour retorted as Sans chuckled a little.*
”Then why are you so scared of me being right?”
*Mystic Flour seemed to jump a little at Sans’ question. Her eyes turning from white to deep black as Sans continued.*
”You say you’re trying to do the right thing, but I think you’re just trying to make everyone believe what you’re embracing. You’re trying to force people to be different because you don’t want someone to use you again. Well let me tell ya bud…All the Cookies I’ve met during my time here are some of the most selfless I’ve ever met. And if you want truly selfless, meet some of the people at my home. If you think everyone is just going to use you like a tool, you’ll be glad to know that you’re going to be okay. I promise you that…This world is going to have people that let their greed dictate their lives, but most of them are genuinely selfless people. But hey, even if you don’t agree…Think over it a little bit okay?” *Sans said with a small smile as he disappeared into the mist. Leaving Mystic Flour to think over what he just told her.*
”Ha, to think that fool knows how this world works. This world is filled with Cookies that simply want to use others for their own benefit and goals…Or…Maybe he is right…Maybe…I am destined to reach a new enlightenment yet.”
*Mystic Flour mulled over her thoughts as the flour swirled around her. With it eventually consuming her as the world faded to nothing…*

Chapter Text
*Sans walked through the now familiar forests of the Faerie Kingdom with a tiny smile on his face. A small piece of paper in his hand as he looked around a few times.*
”Hm, did I take a right turn at one of the trees or did I take a left? I could’ve sworn it was a right, but…Meh, I’ll just have to go forward.” *Sans said with a mellow voice as he continued to move onward. Elder Faerie had a reason he wanted this paper delivered to someone out in the woods, so he was going to get it delivered no matter what.*
*But here’s the thing…Elder Faerie essentially gave him no directions on where to go whatsoever. A map, A specific location in the forest, not even a compass. He had essentially been sent blind into here.*
*But hey, Sans always knew he had his teleportation to rely on if he ever got lost. So at least it could take him time to find it. Either it be a minute or a day…He would just have to find out.*
”Well, I think I’m going the right way. Kinda hard to determine that if you essentially have no idea where you’re going. But I still think I’m going where I’m supposed to be going. If not…Guess I’ll have to call it a d-“
”Hey! Guy in the blue hoodie over there! Mind helping us out with something real quick?” *A sudden and very loud voice asked as a group of three popped out of the woods. With Sans simply looking at them with an aloof smile.*
”Well, I did have something I was doing. But…Eh, don’t think I was getting any closer to it than I was currently. So alright then, what do you three fine gentlemen need me for?”
”I knew you’d say yes! You see, we might’ve lost one of our little hunting targets. We sent one of our buddies to go look for it, but he hasn’t come back yet. Mind helping us find them? You can tell it’s one of us if you see a small band on our arms.” *The leader of the hunters said as he pointed to a small red armband wrapped around his arm. With Sans nodding a few times in agreement as he placed the paper in his pocket.*
”Alright then, was your pal hunting down a pig? Because if he was, I’ll be back faster than you can say prime rib.”
*Sans then teleported away with a small chuckle as the hunters essentially blinked and missed him leaving. With some looking at each other in confusion.*
”What in the witches name is a prime rib?” *The third member asked in confusion as everyone else just shrugged.*
”Eh, probably just some new way to cook jellies. Come on guys, let’s see if we can catch up.”
*Sans popped back in on the branch of a fairly large tree. Perfect place to see what was going on in the surrounding area. Well, maybe not if nothing was happening around him of course.*
*But thankfully, something was happening around the area he was in. How’d he know? Well…*
”HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!” *That’s why.*
”Huh, guess that’s their buddy who’s in a bit of a pickle. Wonder what’s chasing him to make him scream so loud. Eh, maybe something lost its ‘bear necessities.’ Hehehehe.”
*Sans then teleported to where he thought the poor guy would be. And thankfully, he managed to find out where he was. Hiding behind a tree with pure terror on his face.*
”Heya buddy, thought I heard ya screaming for help.” *Sans said as he appeared right next to the hunter that got lost. With said hunter screaming at the top of his lungs as he noticed him.*
”Wh-W-Who are you?!”
”Call me Sans, your buddies asked me to find out where you went. And I think I found you at a pretty bad ti-“ *Sans was about to finish before he felt his mouth being shut. With the hunter staying dead silent as something started to walk towards the tree.*
*It started off with the sound of something clawing against the tree. Along with the sound of someone grunting and getting aggravated. But seemingly seeing that nothing was actually behind the tree after all, the clawing stopped. With a feminine yet assertive voice saying something along the lines of ‘The coward got away’ before walking away.*
*As soon as the hunter made sure that whoever was chasing him was gone, he slowly taking his hands off of Sans’ mouth and angrily whispered into his ear.*
”Are you crazy?! You almost just got us both killed!!!”
”Eh, had a feeling I would’ve handled it. Guess that’s why I used my ‘attractive’ voice.” *Sans said quietly before stifling a few laughs that exited his mouth. With the phantom of Papyrus simply staring at him and shaking his head.*
”YOU KNOW, I SOMETIMES ASK MYSELF WHY I HAVE YOU AS A BROTHER.”
”Oh come on Paps, I know you liked it too.” *Sans said as the hunter simply looked at him like he was crazy. Before the hunter simply shook his head and sighed.*
”Great, a crazy person who can teleport and makes puns just saved me. It’s just one of those days…”
”Hey, I’m not deaf you know? But I get, you don’t know me and I don’t know you. You have no real reason to trust me.” *Sans said as he laid back and gave his legs a good stretch.* “But for now, let’s just wait until your buddies get here. I’m sure they’ll come eventually. They probably do ca-“
”Passionfruit Cookie! You’re okay!”
*The three hunters who Sans met earlier hugged their friend and rose him high into the air. With Sans looking up and smiling at the sight.*
”Where were you?! We were worried sick that something killed you!” *The leader asked Passionfruit as the three placed Passionfruit down. With Sans getting up to his feet and crossing his arms as Passionfruit began to talk.*
”We-Well…Um…M-Maybe Sa-Sans can explain! Yeah!”
”Huh? Oh, hehe, guess I got put on the spot eh?” *Sans said with a small shrug as he gave his version of what happened.* “Well from what I know, something was chasing your buddy Passionfruit and forced him to high tail it behind a tree. That’s where I found him and-due to my ‘attractive’ voice-it started to claw the tree we were behind. Dunno which claws exactly, but I’m guessing a tiger. But thankfully it went away after a few moments of us being silent. But what weirds me out is that it said something along the lines of ‘Coward got away’ or something like that.”
*The hunters froze as Sans described what happened. With some actually beginning to tremble in panic as Sans looked at them with confusion.*
”I’m guessing that they’re not the nicest person aren’t they?”
”Y-You…You two s-survived Nu-Nutmeg Tiger?!” *The leaders right hand man asked with fear in his voice.* “Sh-She was the one t-to lead the Spice Hoard in B-Burning Spices stead! Wh-What’s she doing out h-here?!”
”Wellllll…Maaaaaaybbbbeee I thought she was what we were hunting and I shot at herrrrrr?…”
”You. Did. WHAT?!” *The leader of the group of hunters shouted as Passionfruit backed up a little bit. Meekly raising his arms in front of him.*
”I-I didn’t kn-know it was h-her!”
*The bands leader began to walk closer to Passionfruit. Most likely with the intention to give him a scolding or maybe even smack him across the face. Which made the skeleton start walking as well.*
”Hey, maybe don’t get that mad at him would you?” *Sans said as he walked in front of the hunter and crossed his arms.* “If he thought he had the hunting target in sight, he most likely would take a shot at it. And if he makes a mistake, does that really mean he needs to be yelled at?”
”Well he probably just gave us a massive enemy that we definitely can’t deal with! So do you think I’m gonna be calm about this?!”
”Well, no, but I’m just saying that you probably should calm down a bit. I get that he probably did almost kill somebody. But at least he didn’t actually do it.” *Sans said before realizing that sounded like he sympathized with murders. Which…Well…He definitely doesn’t.* “Well…*Sigh* look, all I’m asking is to give him another chance. Mistakes are bound to happen aren’t they?”
*The head of the hunter group opened his mouth to speak, but none of his words came out. So he calmed himself down and slowly shook his head.*
”Fine, probably should’ve asked why he thought she was our query before blowing up on him. But listen Passionfruit, if you do something like that again, you’re turning into a living pincushion. Got it?”
*Passionfruit quickly nodded his head as the group of hunters walked off. Smiling as watched the group of four almost triumphantly walking off. Even though they didn’t find what they needed.*
”SAY BROTHER, AREN’T YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING IMPORTANT YOU NEED TO DO?” *Paps said with a cheeky grin as Sans suddenly remembering the paper he placed in his pocket.*
”Oh right, thanks for the reminder Paps.”
*Sans then pulled out the paper from his pocket and continued to search the forest for the person he needed to give the paper to. And he also reminded himself of one thing, remember where you were going at times.*
*After what felt like an eternity for Sans-In reality, it was just about an hour.-he finally found the Cookie he needed to give the small slip of paper to. He then teleported straight back to the central plaza of the Faerie Kingdom. Where he was met with the familiar voice of Elder Faerie.*
”Ah, Sans, I take it you delivered the paper to who I said needed it?” *The king asked as Sans turned around and shook his hand with his whoopee cushion free one.*
”I did, sorry it took so long though. Got a little sidetracked with some hunters that needed some help. Plus the lack of anything to tell me where to go was also pretty bad.”
”Oh no, I quite understand. I should’ve told someone to give you directions before you left. I quite apologize for that my friend.” *Elder Faerie said with an apologetic expression as Sans simply shrugged.*
”Eh, it’s fine Mr. King. I managed to find my way eventually did I? But I have to ask, why send me out? I’m sure one of your subjects could do it a lot faster than me.”
“Oh! Um…Well, nobody I knew had enough free time to do what I needed to be done. So I asked you to do it if that makes sense.” *Elder Faerie answered with a uncharacteristically nervous voice as he cleared his throat to not have a voice crack. Which Sans knew was…Odd.*
”…Well that definitely isn’t suspicious. Whatcha hiding bud? You know you don’t have to hide stuff from a pal right?”
”Ah, W-Well…*Sigh* You know how you got a job at our prestigious library yesterday?” *Elder Faerie asked as Sans nodded his head.* “Well, what did you do yesterday while you were there?”
*Now it was Sans’ turn to get nervous. Sans had covered all of his tracks yesterday right? He made sure he wasn’t going to be caught…But, may as well come clean.*
”…You know I looked in the sealed off room and red that book don’t you?”
*Elder Faerie simply stared at Sans with a disappointed and saddened expression as his eyes gave Sans his answer. And without so much as a word…He turned around.*
”Please…Just keep the contents of the book between us. It’s for no one but us to know. Do I make myself clear?” *Elder Faerie demanded as Sans simply looked down.*
”Ye-Yes sir.”
”Good…” *Elder Faerie responded before walking off. With Sans sighing and shaking his head as he did.*
”I’ve made a big mistake haven’t I?…Well, best get going to…I think what would be Hotland back home.”
*Sans then focused his teleportation to the land where-at least from what he’s heard-no one, and I mean no one came back from. The land of spice.*
*And as soon as Sans opened his eyes…He had to close them again because of the large storm of dust that slapped him across the face. Which also meant he had to cough his lungs out because of how much was getting into it.*
”*Cough Cough.* Jeez th-that’s-*Cough Wheeze* a whole lot of dust.” *Sans said as his throat began to hurt a little from his coughing fit.*
”NYEH! NOW YOU KNOW HOW I WANT TO FEEL WHEN I HEAR YOUR DUMB PUNS.”
”O-Oh shut it P-Paps.” *Sans said as the dust storm in front of him ended just as quickly as it started. With Sans opening his eyes to see the desolate, war torn area in front of him.* “Huh…Guess that’s why not a lot of people come here…Or why no one comes back.”
”NYEH HEH HEH!!! I THINK I’LL QUITE LIKE THIS PLACE!”
*Weapons of all kinds were strewn about the large valley that were either discarded or stuck into the ground or a poor soul. With scorch marks and dust littering the walls of the valley with reckless abandon.*
*But Sans also noticed a message carved out into the ravine wall across from him. A message that red ‘When our Lord of Destruction reawakens, may he walk this path of battle and death and return to us all.’*
*Sans grimaced at that message. Gaining a sort of cultish feeling of this region towards its Beast. Sure, he may have a limited understanding of cults from the surface. But he knew one thing that was generally accepted of them…They weren’t good at all.*
*But just as Sans was about to walk the distance of the valley, Sans noticed a large army of different animals marching through it. Tigers, snakes, bulls, even armadillo like creatures walked among them. All led by a Cookie with a normal upper half, but a lower body of a tiger.*
”WILD SPICES!” *The Cookie shouted as every animal stopped and knelt at her words.* “The day of our lord’s return is almost upon us. It is said that he and the others have made a deal with a mysterious group for their release. All they ask is for their cooperation in the war with their other half. And that also means that soon, our lord may one day be whole again! To which this world will finally turn to ash!!!”
*The entirety of the Spice Hoard erupted into cheers as they raised their weapons. With some actually throwing them up into the air with no regard for their own safety.*
”A deal eh? Looks like I’ll have to find out about that later…Hm?”
*Once again, a gigantic plume of dust came storming throughout the Land of Spice. With some actually cheering its arrival as the Cookie spoke again.*
”Ah, the dust and souls of our ancestors have come to grant us strength! Everyone, gather as much as you can!” *The Cookie demanded as some tried to gather it in their arms. While others just flat out snorted it like it was an airborne drug. With Sans completely freezing up at the description of the ‘dust’.*
”S-Souls…O-Of our an-ancestors?”
*The dust smacked against Sans’ face once again as he turned around and shut his eyes as he pupils vanished. Teleporting back to the Faerie Kingdom almost immediately as he began to hyperventilate.*
”OH? WHAT’S GOING ON DEAR BROTHER? ALL THAT DUST IN YOUR EYES BRING BACK SOMETHING YOU TRY TO REPRESS?” *Papyrus asked as Sans stared at him with his soulless eyes.*
”DON’T…JUST DON’T YOU STUPID LITTLE FAKE. YOU AREN’T MY BROTHER IN ANYWAY. GOT IT?!”
*The phantom was already gone by the time he had shouted his sentence out. With tears threatening to fall from his eyes, he gently pulled out Paps’ scarf and wrapped it around his neck and slowly walked home. Away from his problems, away from his bro…And away from himself.*
*Sans had a bit of trouble sleeping that night. Given that he was having a bit of a traumatic episode currently as he tossed and turned in his bed. Trying his best to keep his eyes shut and mind clear.*
”St-Stop, please…I-I know I ca-can make it up to y-you when I get h-home. I know I ca-can…” *Sans begged as he tried his hardest to fall asleep. Desperately trying to keep the bad thoughts of the past from keeping him up.*
*But before he could truly fall asleep, he heard the sound of the dust swarms back in the Land of Spice. With him opening his eyes to find himself in the center of a spiraling circle of dust.*
*And for a moment, Sans could swear that he saw the outlines of all his friends in the dust before it all went up in flames. Being replaced with two red eyes and a dark smile as the Beast of Destruction walked through the flames and looked down at him.*
”Why hello there tormented one.”
*Sans felt fear grace his face as Burning Spice grab him by the throat and squeezed it like he was trying to pop his head off. All the while he held his gigantic axe over his shoulder with a grin.*
”Do not try to lie to me about your state. I know a weak minded coward when I see one.” *Burning Spice said as his eyes became a dark leer.* “And I think we both know what I like to do to cowards…”
”N-Now now bud, we d-don’t need to get so h-hostile. We could j-just talk th-this o-“
”Hehe, trying to save yourself? How adorable…Here’s my answer…” *Burning Spice said before striking him in the side with his axe and dropping him to the ground.*
*Sans immediately checked his HP to see how much had just lost. Grunting in shock as he lost 50 out of 150. Only a third, but it was still terrifying that one attack dropped it that much.*
”Hehe, I have to admit, I’m surprised you managed to live through that. Most would either be groveling for mercy or crumbling in my hands…Interesting.”
”We-Well, I think I know s-someone who’d like to meet y-ya.” *Sans said as a certain version of him with a flaming jacket and a hatred towards orphans came to mind as he got to his feet.* “S-So what happened t-to you? Wh-What made you what y-you are today I me-mean.”
*Sans desperately hoped that Burning Spice didn’t notice him connecting to his Soul Jam with every fiber of his being.*
“Hehe, trying to get me to dwell on the past are you? Well, it’s your lucky day coward. I just so happen to be in a talkative mood…”
”H-Heh, guess I a-am lucky then. But first, th-that deal I heard o-one of your people talk about.” *Sans said as he clutched the massive bleeding gash in his side. Rising to his feet as he continued to talk.* “Wh-Who made that deal with you and the o-other Beasts?”
”Just some new friends of ours. Calling themselves the Cookies of Darkness. They promised us freedom and the chance to finally put those pitiful Cookies back in their place. But most importantly…Our Soul Jams returned to us.”
*Sans got slightly nervous as Burning Spice got almost excited about the ‘Putting Cookies in their place’ part of the deal. But he decided that he definitely needed to not show that around this guy.*
”O-Ok, now how you te-tell me how you f-fell.” *Sans demanded as he noticed the small smirk on Burning Spices face.*
”Making demands of me are you? You must truly have no fear…I used to be a Herald and Bringer of Change. Defending kingdoms with every living breath as well as my hoards…But no matter what happened, it was always the same outcome…Rise, then fall, rise, then fall. Over and all over again…That’s when I realized something important…I was starting to grow bored. So, I decided to do something…Different. It started with vases to break, then tapestries…Then those I swore to protect. I had never felt more…THRILLED in my life. But, maybe one day I can find someone to destroy me…Maybe I can one day go out in a blaze of glory. Just like I’ve done so many times…”
*Sans had to admit, Burning Spice was actually fairly honest with what he said. But since he was connected to his soul…He knew a something that Burning Spice didn’t tell him.*
”Heh, you say you want to go out in a blaze of glory eh?…Yet your soul says otherwise.” *Sans admitted as he released his connection to Burning Spices soul.* “You know, wanting to go out in a blaze of glory is an interesting way to say you’re suicidal.”
”E-Eh?! H-How did you?!-I-I mean, you m-making a bold claim th-there coward.”
”Heh, is it bold if I’m telling the truth? Look bud, I know that a cycle of something you wish never happened can hurt a lot. Believe me, I had to go through that and then some. But sometimes, a cycle is able to be broken. You just got impatient with it not happening yet and convinced yourself it would never come. But I’m sure change would’ve come eventually. Because nothing, and trust me, absolutely nothing can stop the tide of change. No gold, no power, no nothing. You just didn’t see that…And I wish you could’ve, because maybe none of this could’ve happened. Or maybe your fate was inevitable…But I know it’s not too late for your fate to change. I know that for a fact.” *Sans said before looking down at the burning ground below them.* “Who knows? Because these fires may burn on forevermore. Or they’ll eventually be extinguished by the droplets that change.”
*Sans then jumped off the ledge overlooking the burning world below. But just before the flames consumed him, a sudden fast rainfall put the entirety of it out. Leaving behind nothing but smoke and cinders…And the outline of a skeleton who didn’t let destruction deter him.*
”…”
*Burning Spice simply stayed silent. Contemplating on what Sans has just told him. But eventually, a few quite chuckles and soft tears let themselves free.*
*Burning Spice really only thought destruction was the real change the world needed with the path the world was heading. But Sans’ words touched something in his heart. He thought his path had no more forks in the road, but…Maybe it did. Maybe his change…Could shine its light upon himself once more.*

“Hope you enjoy!”
Chapter Text
*Sans woke up to an agonizing and painful feeling in his side. Clutching it as he felt blood rushing out through the gaps in his fingers. But as he looked at his injured side, his face paled as he saw how much blood had spilled out onto his bed.*
”Oh boy, looks like I better ‘ketchup’ on my sleep if things like that are gonna happen. Hehe.” *Sans joked before attempting to find something that could take care of the wound. Eventually deciding to wrap his hoodie around his midsection so the bleeding would stop.* “There we go, good as new I suppose.”
”HEH, AS IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO HEAL.”
*Sans simply shrugged off Paps’ snarky remark and simply made himself breakfast. Eating a decent amount of Jellies before hearing a knock at his door.*
”Hey Sans? Our king would like to speak with you about something.” *Silverbell said as Sans finished off the last Jelly on his plate. With the skeleton smiling as he recognized the voice of his new pal.*
”On it, let me just get something done real quick.”
*Sans then washed his dirty plate and placed it in the strainer before opening the door. With the first thing he noticed was Silverbells smile turning into a confused and shocked O as he noticed the wound on his side.*
”Um…S-Something happen wh-while you tried t-to sleep?” *Silverbell asked as Sans simply nodded his head, almost like getting injured is kinda normal for him.*
”Eh, Might’ve accidentally injured myself before I went to bed. And you might want to get someone to clean those sheets, it looks like a crime scene in there…But what does Elder Faerie want me for?”
”Oh, he just wishes to show you something he feels like you should see. Said it would explain why we have so many white lilies around here.” *Silverbell explained with a surprising amount of enthusiasm and excitement in his voice. What could be so exciting about the reason for planting white lilies?* “So, you’d best get going. I’ll get some help to clean up whatever happened in your bed.”
”Thanks bud, hope you don’t have a ‘bone’ to pick with me later.”
*Sans then walked off from his house and Silverbell with a smile on his face. Only to accidentally laugh a little bit once Silverbell walked into his house, screamed, and immediately ran over to him.*
”Sans! What in the witches name happened in there?!” *Silverbell asked in pure disbelief and terror as he almost tripped running up to him. Which really did not help Sans not trying to laugh.*
”W-Well-*Chuckle*-I think i-it might’ve been r-really early in the n-night once i-*Giggle*-I went to bed. I-I don’t exactly re-remember…”
”Why are you laughing at this?! There’s so much jam on that bed that it looks like two Cookies died on it! B-But…You’re not a…” *Silverbell said as he began to realize what was really on the bed. Simply walking back to Sans’ house with an emotionless expression on his face.*
”*Laugh* S-Sorry Silverbell, I just thought you running b-back here was really funny!”
”H-Huh? Oh, I really thought you were laughing at you bleeding out a lot…S-Sorry for being wrong.” *Silverbell said meekly as Sans shook his head.*
”No no, it’s fine bud. It was pretty much my fault for making you so nervous and upset over that. So sorry bud.”
*Silverbell smiled at Sans’ kind and reassuring words before walking back into the home to clean up the ‘mess’. With Sans sighing in relief as he hopefully kept his new friendship alive.*
”OH HO HO, DODGED A BULLET THERE DIDN’T YOU BROTHER?” *Papyrus asked cockily as Sans chuckled.*
”That I did Paps, that I did.”
*Sans then made his way over to the king of the Faeries to see what was required of him.*
*Sans had never really paid attention to the branches of the silver tree before. But as he walked by the tree, he couldn’t help but notice an odd thing about it.*
*The branches that came out of the tree themselves were pretty normal looking. But as the branches themselves actually splintered into smaller branches, they actually seemed to form the Soul Jams of the Beasts. Or maybe the Ancients, he wasn’t exactly sure.*
*But what was also interesting to him was the fact that one of the branches-The one that looked like a fleur de lis-Was almost completely black. The other four were almost as bright as the sun. Wonder what that could mean?*
”Our tree is beautiful is it not? The beautiful glow it gives off as it seems to give life to all who looks at it…There’s a reason why it is called the epicenter of our lively kingdom.” *Elder Faerie said with a smile as he walked up to Sans’ side. With the skeleton looking at him and nodding in agreement.*
”It does, although that one branch seems to be having a ‘dim’ day. Do you know what’s up with it?”
”…That’s why I asked you to see me today. Come, I have something to show you.” *Elder Faerie ordered as he walked to a small passage behind the tree. With Sans following closely behind.*
”Heh, guess this really is important then.”
*The two walked through the narrow passage as it began to become more and more filled with pure white lilies. Their fragrance filling the air and the nostrils of both Sans and Elder Faerie.*
”You know, Silverbell got incredibly excited when he mentioned the lilies here. Is it tradition to plant these everywhere? Or is it because there’s something back here?” *Sans asked as Elder Faerie mournfully looked ahead. With Sans snapping his fingers to try and get his attention.* “Hello? You in there Elder Faerie?”
“Huh? Oh, ye-yes I’m alright. It’s just…It’s been a while since I’ve been in here. S-So…I-I hope nothing much has changed…”
*Sans squinted his eyes at that answer from the king of the Faeries. But decided not to push further, they seemed to be reaching the end of the hallway after all.*
*And what the two found at the end of the hall was something Sans was in no way expecting to see. It was a beautiful silver coffin with a stool with a lily on top in front of it. With the top lid being completely made of glass.*
”Heh, wasn’t expecting to see a dead person today. But I guess I get to.” *Sans said with a dark chuckle as Elder Faerie placed a gentle hand on the coffin lid.*
”No, this is not a resting place for one who has raised to lands above. It is simply a place for one to rejuvenate the life of her soul, waiting for her to rise once again…”
*Sans was confused by the words that Elder Faerie used to explain what the coffin was being used for. But he got the message once he felt the presence of a third soul. A soul laying inside the coffin.*
*So looking inside the coffin from the glass cover, he saw a Cookie with dough that seemed to be fading into a dark green color. Her eyes closed as her eyelashes seemed to almost touch her lips. Her clothes seemed to be made of leaves. Her handwraps, her cloak, even her shoes were made of mossy leaves. And a soft white lily was also on her soft white silken messy hair that was braided to her shoulder. Sans had to admit, she looked quite lovely.*
*So with a bit of curiosity, Sans connected with her soul. But what he found in her soul…Disturbed him to the core. Her soul was in 5 different pieces. Not only that, but it felt…Incomplete. Almost like half of it was ripped out of her and sent somewhere else. And once Sans noticed that, it was like the missing piece was giving off every negative emotion Sans knew. Which made him immediately pull out of her soul in fear.*
”We-Well, she’s definitely alive that’s f-for sure.” *Sans admitted nervously as he slowly backed away from the coffin with slight nervousness in his voice.* “I’m going to guess that’s why there’s so many white lilies here?”
”You’d be correct to think that my friend. White Lily Cookie has been a hero to us ever since she stopped the grand calamity almost caused by the Silver Tree being unsealed. She has always been a dearest companion to us, especially to me. But…She has fallen into a deep slumber ever since she went to the witches banquet to seek the truth of why we were created, not to mention the creation of Dark Enchantress when she fell into the cauldron of the witches. And so we await the day she awakens again, but we never know when that day will come…But I hope she comes back soon.”
*Sans absorbed all the information he could get from Elder Faerie. Looking at the coffin White Lily was in with a forlorn expression on his face. In a way, she kinda reminded him of himself. Both tried to do something for the benefit of their specific races. Even though their methods and reasons were very different. But, even though they tried their best, it led them down incredibly dark and dangerous paths.*
*But how was she going to awaken? Heck, what was even the factor to get her to wake up?*
”Hey…What are we going to do to get her to wake up?” *Sans asked as Elder Faerie slowly sighed.*
”We don’t actually know at this point. We have tried so long to find a way for her to arise…I’m starting to think that it may be impossible after so long.”
*Sans frowned as he looked at the coffin that contained White Lily. I mean, if she was meant to arise again, there had to be a way to get her to wake up…Right?*
*Well, that’s when Sans got an idea. He had heard an interesting story about a human who supposedly shared half of his his soul with his wife, who had supposedly lost it after she fell into a deep depression.*
*But that’s the thing, what if that was just a tall tale? There’s no evidence that it worked or even happened…But…*
”Elder Faerie?” *Sans said with both nervousness and hope in his voice.* “C-Can you please re-remove the lid?”
*Elder Faerie looked at Sans like he had just lost his mind. Why in the world does he want to remove the lid? Was he trying to steal from the coffin?*
”…May I ask why you want to?”
”I want to give my respects to her personally. You know, place a lily in her hands. She should have a keepsake you know?” *Sans admitted before picking up a lily. Holding it in his hand as a bit of morning dew dripped off it.*
”…*Sigh*…Fine, but please make it quick.”
*Elder Faerie then gently removed the lid that held White Lily in the coffin. After which Sans gently tucked the lily into her arms. But he seemed to keep his hand on her arms for a bit longer than he probably needed to. But just as Elder Faerie was about to ask him what he was doing…*
”Grrrrrrrkkkk!…H-Hehe, must’ve had a thorn on it or something.” *Sans said as he pulled his arm away and held his hand. Shaking it a few times to make the pain stop.*
”Wh-Wha…What did you just do?”
”Uh…Something that might get her to wake up?” *Sans said with a small shrug before checking his stats. Which had thankfully not dropped from what he just did.*
”What do you mean help her wake up? What in the world did you do to o-“
*Jostle…A noise of something moving, but what? There isn’t anything in here that can be moved besides…The coffin. And while the two were staring at the coffin, the hero that laid dormant in it jolted awake.*
”*Gasp* I-I…Wh-Where…How long have I-GAH!” *White Lily said in utter confusion before Elder Faerie pulled her into a hug.* “O-Oh…Elder Faerie, my dear friend. I-I hoped you would’ve been at my side once I awoke.”
”Of course I would…Why would I break a promise to a dear friend?”
*Sans had to stop himself from physically cringing at the mention of a promise. Sure, he took one promise in his life. But that was a one time thing for a friend. And a one time thing all together…*
”HEY BROTHER, AREN’T YOU GOING TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO YOUR FRIEND?” *Paps asked as Sans seemed to remember that he needed to introduce himself. But just before he could even talk…*
”H-Hello? I-Is someone there?”
*Sans froze as White Lily said that. He knew for a fact that only he should know about Paps’ phantom. Unless…Giving half his soul to her makes them…Connected in some way?*
”U-Uh…Ju-Just me!” *Sans said with pure shock and nervousness as tried to calm down.* *“Calm down Sans, there is no way she just heard you think…It was probably just the wind.”*
”Oh…Alright then, I suppose I heard nothing just then.” *“I could’ve sworn I just heard something…Maybe it really was nothing.”*
*Sans then felt terrified as he then heard the thoughts of White Lily. Essentially confirming his suspicions as he started to hyperventilate.*
”Y-Y-Yeah! Call me Sans b-by the way. A-And I just re-remembered I have to d-do something!” *Sans said as he immediately teleported out of the room and somewhere else.*
”…Uh…Okay then?”
*Sans felt his feet hit solid ground as he felt his entire body shaking violently. Being in complete denial and shock as he hurriedly put his jacket on.*
*”Sans, c-calm down. Th-That was just y-your mind f-following what she would’ve thought, I’m sure of it!”* *Sans thought as he sat down and tried to calm his worried mind. But then…*
*”He-Hello?”*
*Sans felt his soul jump as he heard a voice. And this time, since he was all alone, he knew that he couldn’t hide from it now.*
*”He-Heya, I’m guessing this is White Lily speaking?”* *Sans asked through his mind as the voice once again responded.*
*”Yes…B-But, how am I hearing you? You just left the room didn’t you?”*
*”I did, but…”* *Sans started to say before letting out a sigh.* *”Let’s just say there’s a small piece of me in you.”*
*”Excuse me?”*
*”Well, in order to wake you up, I decided to leave half of my soul inside you to fill the gap in your own soul. Which I had noticed was missing…Didn’t know it would cause this.”* *Sans admitted with a monotone voice. With White Lily seeming to be content with his answer.*
*”Oh…Alright…”*
*And with that, Sans was left alone in his thoughts. And thankfully, that’s when he realized he wasn’t in the Faerie Kingdom. But in the land of pure silence.*
*How? Well, it was because of all the pure black salt beneath him. And because he was in front of a village that was completely destroyed. But, no sound came from it. Not even from the fires that seemed to burn from them…Creepy.*
*Thankfully, Sans already knew that this place was that of Silent Salt. The Beast of Silence. But he expected some noise to be here. But…Nothing made a lot more sense once he dwelled on it a bit.*
*So, Sans decided to see what was inside the village. Walking through the entrance to see what he could find inside. And the first thing he saw? A gigantic pile of bodies stacked upon each other. Some rotting while others seemed to be preserved by the salt around them.*
”…Huh.” *Was all Sans said as he walked towards the pile of corpses. Noticing that most of them had large, deep wounds that seemed to almost cut through them entirely. But Sans wasn’t all that bothered with seeing a corpse that much anymore.*
* But Sans noticed a small piece of paper at the base of the pile of bodies. Something that he knew probably shouldn’t be his main source of attraction right now. But he couldn’t help but notice it.*
*So Sans picked it up and opened it, deciding to see whatever was inside it. And he first saw what seemed to be a child’s drawing of the Five Beasts while they were still Virtues. And they all seemed to be happy and smiling. Which Sans had to admit, warmed his heart to look at.*
*But as Sans started to look down at the fairly long piece of paper, he noticed that one by one, the Beasts were vanishing from the picture. Seemingly in the order that they were being corrupted. Until eventually…It was just Silent Salt.*
*And it was just Silent Salt for a while as the word ‘Alone’ was added more and more. And his smile faded into a depressed frown and tears fell down his helmet covered face. But eventually, just like his old friends…He fell too.*
*So, now Sans knew how every Beast fell. But Silent Salt…Actually reminded him of the last human that fell down into the Underground. They probably felt alone too after the fall. And not knowing what to do…They did genocide over and over again . Probably thinking monsters were a threat before the first human took over.*
”*Sigh*…I’m definitely going to need to talk with the kid if I ever get home.”
*So with somber sentence and sentiment, Sans gently placed the paper back on the ground before leaving the land of Silence. Teleporting away as the land kept quiet. Almost like it never had a voice…*
*Sans wrapped Paps’ scarf around his neck as he saw his now clean bed. Which he had to admit, the Faeries didn’t really like to leave spots on dirty things didn’t they?*
*So the skeleton laid his head down on his fluffed pillow as he closed his eyes to go to bed. He definitely needed rest after that incredibly chaotic and interesting day. So some sleep would be much appreciated.*
*But as he fell asleep, he noticed a small bright light in front of him. Something that actually looked a lot like the human. Same size, same shape, but the only difference was the flower they held and the flower crown on their head.*
*But Sans knew that it wasn’t the first human. There were two stripes compared to the first humans single stripe. And that was further confirmed as the human seemed to give the flower to Sans.*
*But just before he could take it…*
”S-Sans? If th-that’s your name of c-course…” *A soft, almost sad voice asked as Sans opened his eyes. Seeing White Lily kneeling down over him to make sure he was okay.* “A-Are you well?
”Well, I was trying to sleep when you woke me up. So you could say I am…Guess we also share dreams eh? That’s going to be a nip in the ‘bud’ isn’t it?”
*Sans chuckled as White Lily helped him rise to his feet. A lazy expression on his face as he noticed the large amount of black salt that was on the ground.*
”Heh, I was wondering when I would get here. Wonder if it’s going to go well as the last four.” *Sans wondered as White Lily looked at him with an expression that screamed ‘Excuse me?!’*
”Y-You…You’ve been talking with the B-Beasts?”
”Yeah, every single night while I was dreaming. And I have to admit, they’re a lot nicer than people say they are. Sure, one of them did attack me, and the first…I don’t want to talk about that. But I actually don’t think they’re the monsters you make them out to be.” *Sans admitted as he simply shrugged his shoulders. With White Lily looking at him with more shock.*
”Wh-What?! They almost destroyed Earthbread so long ago!”
”And I know that, but shouldn’t you at least try to get their side of the story first? You don’t know the full story if you don’t get both si-“ *Sans tried to say before being interrupted by pitch black lightning slashing between the two. Which made Sans know who just appeared.* “Well, speak of the devil.”
*Sans looked at Silent Salt with a grin. But before he could walk up to the Beast, White Lily stopped him.*
”Don’t, I-I don’t want to see a new friend d-die…”
”Hey, I’m not gonna die alright? You can trust me on that ‘bud.’” *Sans joked as he gently moved White Lilies arm out of the way and walked up to Silent Salt.*
*Sans stopped at a good few feet away from the knight. Crossing his arms as he tilted his head a little.*
“I always wondered what the Beast of Silence would be like. Giving that your friends seem to be a lot more talkative than you. But I suppose that does make a lot of sense…But I have to ask, why do all this? I’m pretty sure you were the last one to fall after all. But why didn’t you try to do anything sooner to help your friends heal? Did you think you didn’t have a chance to stop them?”
*Silent Salt stayed silent and didn’t say a word. But he slowly lowered his head, seemingly in shame as he looked away. Which White Lily was fairly surprised by.*
”I’m going to take that a yes. But you know you didn’t have to fight them right? Or did you think your only choice was to fight your friends?” *Sans asked as Silent Salt gave a slow nod. Which made White Lily freeze in shock and slight sadness. Something she wasn’t expecting to feel.* “Well, I’m pretty sure that you might’ve had a chance to convince them to be good again. I’m not saying you had a 100% chance, it takes someone a little while to heal after all. But…I still think you could’ve something to help. You were one to promote Solidarity after all. But, I’m not going to judge you on what you didn’t do…I’m trying to help you make better choices. But, I don’t think it’s going to be the best time to do it here. But I promise, we’ll meet each other again. I know we will pal.”
*And with that, Sans turned around to return to White Lilies side. But before he could…He sidestepped an arc of lightning that was a shade of purple. His pupils vanishing as he saw Silent Salt in a now enraged state.*
”…H-How…How did you know h-he would?…”
”So, you want to play rough with me don’t you?” *Sans asked as he turned around and faced Silent Salt. Activating his bad time eye as he sighed.* “I guess I should’ve known you would attack me. It is pretty rough getting lectured by someone you don’t even know. But I’m not going to hurt you. You don’t deserve that, no…I’M GOING TO MAKE YOU SEE WHAT I’VE GONE THROUGH. BECAUSE IF YOU WANT TO SEE ME SUFFERING…I’LL GLADLY INDULGE YOU.
*”Wh-What does that me-mean? Sans…What in the world are you doing?!”*
*Sans ignored what White Lily asked, simply staring at Silent Salt with a crazed grin. He knew how unfair life would be to someone like him. So…Why not show his story?*
(Start playing:Gasoline by Halsey.)
*Snow strangely began to fall with the salt being sprinkled on the ground as Sans looked up at Silent Salt. A dark expression on his face as he started…Singing?*
”Are you insane like me? (Shadow Milk)
Been in pain like me? (Mystic Flour)
Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me? (Eternal Sugar)
Just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me? (Burning Spice.)
Would you use your water bill to dry the stain like me? ($@N$)”
*Memories of Sans’ past encounters with the Beasts began to play around the two locked in a stalemate before Sans teleported behind Silent Salt.*
”Are you high enough without the Mary Jane like me? (Eternal Sugar)
Do you tear yourself apart to entertain like me? (Burning Spice)
Do the people whisper bout you on the train like me? (Mystic Flour)
Saying that you shouldn’t waste your pretty face like me? (Shadow Milk)
*Sans then teleported back to his original spot, hands in his jacket and all. But eventually, he let a smile crack on his face as his body seemed to glitch.*
”And all the people say;
”YOU CAN’T WAKE UP!” (SANS TO SHADOW MILK.)
”THIS IS NOT A DREAM.” (SHADOW MILK TO ETERNAL SUGAR.)
”YOU’RE PART OF A MACHINE.” (ETERNAL SUGAR TO MYSTIC FLOUR)
”YOU ARE NOT A HUMAN BEING.” (MYSTIC FLOUR TO BURNING SPICE)
”WITH YOUR FACE ALL MADE UP.” (BURNING SPICE TO MYSTIC FLOUR)
“LIVING ON A SCREEN.” (MYSTIC FLOUR TO ETERNAL SUGAR)
”LOW ON SELF ESTEEM.” (ETERNAL SUGAR TO SHADOW MILK)
”SO YOU RUN ON GASOLINE-E-E-E?” (SHADOW MILK TO SANS-S-S-S)
*Woooooahhhhhhh…*
”I THINK THERE’S A FLAW IN MY CODE!”
*Woooooahhhhhhh…*
”THESE VOICES WON’T LEAVE ME ALONE…Oh my heart is gold and my hands are cold…”
*Both Cookies were born utterly confused and shocked by Sans somehow turning into Silent Salts old friends. But it eventually did stop, but the snow began to fall faster, even overpowering all the salt falling down.*
”Are you deranged like me? (Flowey)
Are you strange like me? (Mettaton)
Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me? (Papyrus)
Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me? (Undyne)
Pointing fingers cause you’ll never take the blame like me? (Asgore)”
*Phantom like figures then appeared behind Sans as he turned to face them. A distressed expression on his face as he summoned a gaster blaster beside him and aimed it at the first.*
”And all the people say;
”YOU CAN’T WAKE UP!” (Toriel)
”THIS IS NOT A DREAM.” (Papyrus)
”YOU’RE PART OF A MACHINE.” (Undyne)
”YOU ARE NOT A HUMAN BEING.” (Mettaton)
”WITH YOUR FACE ALL MADE UP.” (Muffet)
”LIVING ON A SCREEN.” (Flowey)
”LOW ON SELF ESTEEM.” (Asgore)
”SO YOU RUN ON GASOLINE-E-E-E?” (Sa-a-a-CHARA)
*Woooooahhhhhhh…*
”I THINK THERE’S A FLAW IN MY CODE!”
*Woooooahhhhhhh…*
“THESE VOICES WON’T LEAVE ME ALONE…(I think there’s a flaw in my code!) Oh my heart is gold and my hands are cold…(These voices won’t leave me alone…) Oh my heart is gold and my hands are cold…”
*And with that, the snowfall stopped. And so did Sans singing. With his eyes going dark as he stared at the now snowy ground…*
(Stop playing:Gasoline by Halsey.)
*Both Cookies stared at Sans with confusion and disbelief at what they just saw. But Sans almost immediately ran over to White Lily and grabbed her arm.*
”W-We need to go.” *Sans said on the brink of tears as he prepared to wake up with White Lily.*
”W-Wait, what d-did you ju-“
*The two then vanished into thin air as Silent Salt stared at the ground. Wondering what he had just saw.*
Chapter 6: The day comes.
Summary:
“Sans has a lot of explaining to do for White Lily. Let’s hope that goes well. But he also gets to meet a few new pals who actually came from the mainland. So that’s…Why is the Silver Trees seal breaking?”
Notes:
“Please enjoy everyone.”
Chapter Text
*Sans jolted awake as his soul seemed to pound in his chest. His throat felt oddly dry as he felt nervous sweats fall down his body. And his felt like it was having the worst migraine it’s ever felt by a long shot.*
*That meet up with Silent Salt was probably the most chaotic by far. Why in the world did he think it was a good idea to do something like that?! No one is going to believe what he did…Right?*
*Sans slowly got out of his bed and walked into his home’s bathroom before taking his hood off. Turning the cold water off before literally dunking his head into the basin to make himself calm down.*
”WOW BROTHER, I KNOW YOU WERE PRONE TO DOING STUPID THINGS. BUT THIS IS A BIT MUCH ISN’T IT?” *Paps asked as Sans pulled his head out of the sink as he coughed a few times. Shaking his head to get any stray water on his head off of him.*
”P-Paps, I know you l-like to but in a lot, but now is definitely not th-the time for that.”
”NYEH HEH HEH! AND WHO’S TO SAY THAT IT ISN’T THE BEST TIME? I THINK IT’S QUITE APPROPRIATE RIGHT NOW! AFTER ALL, I AM ALWAYS WITH YO-“ *Paps tried to finish before Sans snapped and punched the wall behind him.*
”I SAID SHUT UP!!!”
*The figment vanished as soon as Sans’ fist made contact with the wall. With Sans immediately feeling the pain from his hand as some blood began to trickle down its finger bones. With Sans just smiling like a worried shopper who thought an item didn’t go through.*
”H-Heh…Hehehe…Th-That looks g-great…” *Sans said through gritted teeth as he turned the cold water on again to wash the blood off his hand. With his expression seeming to get more nervously happy as he felt the pain.*
*Sans dried his hand on his jacket before looking at the mirror in front of him. With his smile eventually dropping into a tired frown as he looked at himself more. He never really liked to look at himself in the mirror, but, now after what he did back home?…He couldn’t try to look at the monster he became after his genocide.*
*But, Sans could swear for a second that his face was plastered with a large smile and pure red slited eyes. Which made him freeze as he tried to see if it ever showed up again. But…It never did…*
”…I-It’s okay…You’re in control o-of yourself. I k-know you are Sans…You’re nothing l-like the first human, I know that for a-a fact…Right?…”
*But as soon as Sans was just about answer his own question, he heard a familiar voice ring through his mind.*
*“H-Hey Sans? I-I want to speak with you a-about…Wh-What happened in our d-dream last night…”* *White Lily asked as Sans gripped the marble sink basin. But thankfully, he managed to grin and bear it as he forced a big smile.*
*”O-Of course…See you soon…”*
*Sans then had to physically force himself off the sink basin as he slowly walked out of the bathroom. But he eventually started to walk normally. Although…It almost felt like his body wasn’t his own. Almost like he had…taken a backseat.*
*It took Sans a pretty long time to find White Lily. He essentially had to look throughout the entire kingdom to find her. But he managed to find her sitting next to the glass coffin she used to lay in.*
”H-Huh? Oh, hello S-Sans. I’m glad you decided to come.” *White Lily said with a soft smile as she patted a seat next to her were Sans could sit. Which he didn’t want to d happily obliged to.*
”S-So…Wh-Whatcha want to speak with me about? Y-You know, about yesterday?”
*Sans’ voice felt…off to White Lily. It didn’t sound like the kind, almost always joking voice from what little she heard yesterday. His voice right now sounded almost…Dead. Almost like he lost all emotion to it in the span of a day.*
”He-Hey, are you okay? You don’t sound like y-you’re in the best of m-moods…” *White Lily asked as Sans just let out a dry, almost depressed chuckle.*
”Never better…”
*White Lily didn’t feel even remotely comforted by Sans’ answer, even though she clearly should’ve. But she decided to let it go for now.*
”O-Ok, well, what I wanted to talk about was…What you did with the phantoms of those people. Who I’m going to assume are your friends…C-Can I go on?” *White Lily asked with a frown as Sans looked at the ground. A decision answer occupying his mind.*
(Warning:This scene is going to be heavily inspired by the Deltarune SNOWGRAVE route Chapter 4 scene. If you don’t want to be disturbed, I highly recommend skipping. But if you’re fine with that…PROCEED.)
[You can. NO NO NO NO N-]
”Yes…”
”Alright then…” *White Lily said as she mentally prepared for what she was going to say. Looking Sans dead in the eyes as she began to speak.* “When you sang that song, I-I almost thought nothing o-of it. B-But…Once you g-got to the phantoms, th-the soul inside of m-me felt…T-Terrified. A-And once y-you started…A-Attacking them…It felt…O-Overjoyed, a-almost like it…E-Enjoyed every second o-of that…B-But, in the end, I-It was just a dream. A-And you could morph it into h-however you wish, a-and I decided that…You just m-made that that u-up for the dream. T-To get inside th-the Beasts h-head…”
*White Lily then placed her hands over Sans’ hands and gently squeezed them. Looking into Sans’ lifeless eyes as she smiled.*
”I-I’m sure you’re n-not like that! I’m sure you’ve done some bad th-things before, but n-nothing like th-“
*Sans placed his hands over White Lilies mouth hoping, no, praying that she would just let it go. But no…She just slowly pulled his arms down away from her.*
”Sans…It’s alright, it’s just me and you.” *White Lily said to try and comfort Sans. Only to say a sentence that she would regret for her entire life and existence.* “Who’s going to know about this besides me and you?”
[I am. DON’T HURT HER PLE-]
*Sans’ eye sockets become blood red as the determination within him completely took over. With White Lily jumping in surprise and slight fear at what just happened to him.*
“S-Sans?…”
*Sans just grinned before he stood up and smiled. Ominous red smoke bellowing from his mouth as White Lily stared to slowly back away.*
*”O-Ok then, he-he’s probably j-just playing a j-joke on me! H-He’s just been a-able to d-do that…”* *White Lily said in her head as she stopped backing up for a moment. Only for ‘Sans’ grin to widen slightly as he walked closer.*
[Sans isn’t here…PLEASE-E-E-E-]
*White Lily backed up completely against the wall as she shut her eyes and began to shake. With ‘Sans’ walking closer as she continued to speak to him.*
*”Pl-Please Sans…Tell m-me it’s a joke…”* *White Lily begged as ‘Sans’ now stood over her as the smoke from his mouth seemed to pour out more.*
[I’M. NOT. SANS…]
*”…Wh-White or yellow…”* *White Lily asked as ‘Sans’ grin grew even more.*
[YELLOW.]
*”Tree o-or flower…”*
[FLOWER.]
*”H-Hope or despair…”*
[DESPAIR.]
*”…Y-You’re not a monster, you d-didn’t h-hurt anyone…”*
[I’M A MONSTER. I HURT EVERYONE.]
*”…”* *White Lily stopped talking as ‘Sans’ seemed to relish in every second of her fear. Deciding to tell White Lily something.*
[I WANT MY SOUL BACK…]
”…Wh-What was that Sans?…”
[CLAIM.]
*Sans knelt down…*
*”Wh-Why can’t I…M-Move?…”*
[CLAIM]
*Tilted his head…*
*”Wh-Why aren’t I-I doing anything?!…”*
[CLAIM]
*And placed a hand on White Lilies shoulder.*
*”WH-WHITE LILY, PL-PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!”*
*Sans forced a hand over White Lilies mouth so she couldn’t speak. Activating the connection to the soul half inside White Lily as he grinned maniacally. And then…He started to pull it out of her.*
*The soul painfully moved through White Lilies body as her muffled screams rang throughout the room. With the pain feeling so agonizing and excruciating, like someone was trying to extract all of her organs at once through her mouth while she still lived. With flailing her arms around in panic before Sans successfully extracted the soul out her.*
*White Lilies cries stopped once she went limp. Falling unconscious as Sans placed the half back inside him. With the determination inside him giving up control to show Sans what it…No…What HE just did.*
*Sans physically shook as he saw the unconscious body of White Lily in front of him. Almost feeling his knees buckle before Elder Faerie called out for him.*
”Sans, I have some people I would like to introduce you to!” *The king shouted as Sans snapped his attention to the hallway leading out of the chamber.*
”C-Coming…”
*Sans then forced himself out of the room as he tried his best to calm down. Leaving what he just did…behind.*
*Sans’ steps felt heavy as he walked out of the coffin chamber. With his face being blacked out by his hood as he saw the silver tree in front of him.*
*To Sans, it looked he had just killed another person. And not just anyone, a hero…A hero who used to protect this place…*
*”Wh-Why did I d-do that?…”* *Sans asked in his head as he continued to walk to Elder Faerie. His fists tightening up into balls as he heard a dark voice in his mind.*
[MONSTER.
ANOTHER LIFE CLAIMED.
WHEN WILL IT BE ENOUGH?
WASN’T THE UNDERGROUND ENOUGH?
WASN’T YOUR HAPPY ENDING ENOUGH?
…When will the dust stop fa-]
*Sans proceeded to rip his own soul out and turn it blue. He then launched it into a wall…Then again…And again. And Again. AND AGAIN-AGAIN-AGAIN-AGAIN-AGAIN-*
”Ah, there you are my friend.” *Elder Faerie interrupted as Sans quickly put his soul back into his body. Turning around with a shaky smile and bruises all over his body.* “Uh…Did you get into a fight while I was gone?”
”…M-Maybe?”
*Sans immediately checked his health and saw how much left, paling some as he saw he dropped to 50 out of 150. With his irises vanishing as he saw how much he hit himself.*
”Q-Quite a bad o-one too…” *Sans said nervously as he quietly added ‘One that I also deserved.’ But not loud enough for Elder Faerie to hear.*
”I can see that, I’ll have someone check up on you later. But as I said, I do have some people that I would like you to meet. If you wish to meet them of course.”
”O-Oh no, i can meet th-them. Just…A-A bit sore.” *Sans said as he rubbed his bruised cheek and popped his back.* “So, what ‘doughlitful’ people am I meeting pal?”
”Some friends of White Lilies if what Silverbell told me was correct. Come, they’re waiting in front of the Silver Tree.”
*Elder Faerie then led Sans to the front of the Silver Tree. With Sans seeming to just shuffle his feet forward instead of really walking. But he eventually got his composure together and followed behind Elder Faerie pretty closely.*
*But eventually, Sans got to see the Cookies he was meant to meet. And safe to say, they were a pretty interesting bunch.*
*Three of them were actually pretty young. One looked like a basic gingerbread cookie just with skull buttons, the second had a strawberry looking hoodie on and a lollipop on her back, and the third was dressed in wizard attire and had a fake beard on.*
*But the fourth was an actual adult. He wore a hat that looked like a vanilla ice cream cone and attire that looked a lot like a priest. But the thing that grabbed Sans’ attention first was the Soul Jam in a cross like plate on his chest. Just like how Shadow Milk held his Soul Jam in a brooch.*
”Gingerbrave, Strawberry, Wizard, and Pure Vanilla, meet Sans. Sans, meet Gingerbrave, Strawberry, Wizard, and Pure Vanilla.” *Elder Faerie said as Sans gave a small wave.* “Don’t worry Sans, I already told them all they need to know about you.”
”Hiya! It’s so nice to meet you!”
*Gingerbrave grabbed ahold of Sans’ hand and shook it after his joyful greeting. Shaking it a lot before Sans calmed him down.*
”Woah there kid, calm down a little bit. Don’t want my arm to pop off huh?” *Sans joked before he felt Pure Vanilla plant a hand on his head.* “Oh, what’s your hand doing on my-“
*Before Sans could finish his question, he felt a warm, gentle feeling throughout his body as his wounds magically healed.*
”There, it should be all better now my friend.”
”Ah, healing magic I’m going to guess?” *Sans assumed as Pure Vanilla gently nodded his head.* “Heh, guess I’m a good guesser. But why are you all here anyway? I’m guessing it’s not just a friendly visit.”
”You would be correct my friend…I was informed that White Lily would be somewhere in Beast-Yeast, so we took an airship here to try and find her. And these pieces of her Soul Jam have directed us here…Sh-She’s an old friend of mine…Have you…Seen her?”
*Sans nodded his head with a lazy smile on his face.*
”I have, became quick friends with her myself. I can see why you’re old friends with her.” *Sans said with mirth before quickly adding more to his sentence.* “She’s also still asleep currently, wouldn’t want to disturb her.”
”Ah, alright…I wish I could meet her now. But if she needs her rest, I will not disturb her.”
*Sans sighed in relief as Pure Vanilla decided to not push on his rushed out last sentence. But jumped as he noticed the seal on the Silver Tree start to turn more red.*
”…Uh…Something up with the tree?” *Sans asked as the tree started to pulsate more red than blue.*
”No, the seal has been weakening mysteriously over the course of the day. But slowly, for most of the lights have been reawakened…but not the light of freedom. Ever since White Lily fell in her slumber, the Soul Jam of freedom has been fractured…But our new friends have supposedly found pieces of it already.”
”We have.” *Pure Vanilla said as he pulled out two small green shards.* “I suspect that we only have three more to find.”
”Oh don’t worry, I got it.”
*Sans then vanished as the new four jumped in surprise. With Wizard Cookie sighing and shaking his head.*
”Urrrrrggggg, he definitely just did that to ditch us.” *Wizard Cookie said as Strawberry gave him a few kind pats on the back.*
”Don’t w-worry Wizard, I’m sure he’ll be back…O-Or at least I-I hope he d-“
”Sup.” *Sans said as he teleported back with the three remaining shards of the light of truth in his hands.* “Might want to give these to your pal if you want her to wake up.”
”Um…Right, you w-worked pretty fast on that…”
*So after Sans handed the shards over, Pure Vanilla immediately rushed to where he was told his friend was. With Sans chuckling a little at the way Pure Vanilla ran.*
”So, uh…Wh-Where you f-find the rest of th-the light of freedom?” *Gingerbrave asked as Sans just shrugged.*
”They were all over the kingdom. I’m surprised you decided not to check before meeting us.”
*The three younger Cookies looked at Sans with slightly confused expressions before Pure Vanilla walked back with White Lily. Who seemed oddly shaken up.*
”Heya Lily, how are you doing?” *Sans asked as White Lily just shook her head and stayed silent.* “Heh, guess she had a really good sleep then.”
”You’re not the only one who she wouldn’t respond to. No matter how much I tried to speak with her, she wouldn’t respond. At least not normally, she would just say something along the lines of ‘please don’t harm me…’ whatever that means…”
*Sans had to physically stop himself from cringing as White Lily stared at the floor. They were going to need her help in order to fix the trees seal.*
*It didn’t take long for White Lily to get back to her normal self. With Sans actually cheering for her getting better. But…She just ignored him. Almost like she was…Scared of him.*
*But once she had gotten herself back in her own mind, Elder Faerie asked her to fix the seal on the tree. Which she dutifully did as the seal was fixed.*
”There…I-I did it…D-Did I?” *White Lily said with a few hints of self doubt in her voice. Only for Sans to gently pat her on the back as she jumped from his touch.*
”Hehe, don’t worry bud, I’m sure you have this ‘sealed’ up.”
*That joke made White Lily smile a little bit as Sans raised his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders…Only for the seal to immediately break off and a gigantic hole to form into the tree.*
”…N-No…” *Elder Faerie said as the tree began to rot. With a familiar, crazed voice laughing as he escaped.*
”Hehehehe! Oh how wonderful it feels to smell the morning air again! But this kingdom…It’s so bland! Oh no no no no! It needs some fun…It needs…Me!”
*And with that…The beast of deceit has escaped.*
”And this grand jesters name?…SHADOW MILK COOKIE!!!”
