Chapter 1: The Hotel Manager.
Chapter Text
In the year 20##, a murder crime has happened in the famous hotel, known as 'Hotel Hoot'.
Although it didn't remain abandoned, the hotel owner still continued running it as if nothing's ever happened, because it wasn't like the object who happened to die was all that important to anyobject anyway, or important in general.
Years later, the hotel owner eventually retired and gave the hotel to their friend, Orange Juice.
To say the least, Orange Juice was running the hotel pretty well, some might say better than the previous hotel owner, although they didn't know that he's been giving up sleep for this, he's been giving up everything to make others happy.
One day, when the hotel manager decided to finally get some rest, he went to his bedroom and laid down in it, not being able to sleep easily because of insomnia. Suddenly there's a burst of energetic, glowy ball in the middle of his bedroom, he yelped in utter shock before closing his mouth with his hands, reminding himself that it's night and the residents were most likely asleep, although not having enough time to process, he passed out.
Chapter 2: The Unknown Light
Chapter Text
A few hours passed by, the hotel manager finally managed to wake up, and was immediately hit with continuous knocks on his door, he shot up from bed, noticing the glowy ball from last night was gone, maybe he was just too tired and was imagining it.
He went to deal with all of the chores and hotel work, complaints, such and such, and decided to go back to his room by the end of the day.
He noticed that once again, the glowing ball was well… floating on his bed. He squinted at it, unsure of how to react, now accepting that he may just have schizophrenia, he should get that check out sometime soon.
Ignoring the glowing ball, he decided to take a good look at his bedroom, despite not entering it for… months, everything was surprisingly neat and clean, not a single speck of dust can be found as he explored more of it.
He smiled, he's visited his bedroom before sure, but he never really focused on the atmosphere of things and never thought he'd need it all too much because well, hotel manager life gets pretty busy. But he liked it here, it felt like home, maybe he should do more work here.
He glanced back at his bed and the glowing ball was still there, but instead it was near the edge of the bed, he blinked, deciding to ignore it once again and head off to his bathroom to wash off.
Once he came back out with a towel wrapped around his shoulder, he noticed the glowing ball was next to him, he jumped, falling to the floor as his orange juice started to spill out on the carpet.
'Shit.' he thought, because it was a sweet, sugary drink, this will take much longer than water to clean out, and he can't just ask the cleaner to clean his mess, so he immediately got up, took a glance at the glowing ball, glaring at it, then immediately went to the supplies closet to get some cleaning supplies.
He returned back to his bedroom to start cleaning, but once he got back to the spot the stain was gone, the carpet was still visibly wet but it didn't smell like citrus anymore, he was confused and concerned to say the least, and eventually noticed the glowing ball in front of him again.
He stared at it, before it started moving towards his bed, his gaze followed it as he tried to take time to actually process.
"Okay, what the actual fuck." Orange Juice blurted out.
The glowing ball floated up into the air a little before going back to its normal spot, Orange Juice raised an eyebrow.
"What…Are you..?" He walked over to his bed and the glowing ball started to circle around him, flowing like a breeze.
It stopped, almost as if it was looking back at him, but there were no words spoken, no sounds were heard, only the sound of the ceiling fan spinning.
He took a deep breath and sighed.
"Okay, I don't know what I was expecting. I should really check out with a therapist some time soon." He rested his hands on his hips as he glanced away from the glowing ball.
He looked back at it before sighing, and decided that he should get the rest of his workload done, he went to turn off the lights and went to his desk, although he didn't need to turn on the lamp because the glowing ball stuck by him the entire night as a light source, he decided to not question it any further.
Chapter 3: Crazy things.
Chapter Text
OJ glanced at the clock, noticing it's already 4am, he decided he should stop there and start checking around the hotel, he would make breakfast but… let's just say he's not the best at cooking. On the topic of cooking, the glowy ball reminds him of the hotel's chef, I wonder who that could be?
He got up to get ready, make himself look more presentable, for some reason the glowy ball didn't move at all from its position on the desk, but once he was done it followed him right out the door.
He didn't think much of it at first and continued walking down the hall, but then remembered 'Wait what if the residents ask about it? What if they all get frightened and leave?' Questions started bombarding his mind, he ran back to his bedroom with the glowy ball following behind and stopped in front of his door as he took his breath.
"Okay… you. I'm not sure what exactly you are but I'm gonna need you to stay in my room, I do not want to deal with the resident's questions and complaints." OJ demanded firmly.
The glowy ball kinda just stuck there until it moved from side to side, indicating a 'No.' OJ raised an eyebrow at it, it seemed like this thing understands English at least…
"What do you mean 'no'? I have a hotel to run you kno-" OJ was suddenly caught off by a more feminine sounding voice.
"OJ..? What're you doing up this late? Or early…" Soap, the hotel cleaner asked.
OJ looked at her as if he was caught doing something horrific, turning around, he replied,
"Oh uh, nothing! Everything's A-OJ!" He blurted out nervously, scratching the back of his glass and giving her a thumbs up.
Soap looked at him, clearly not believing a word he said.
"Mhm... Yea I'm not sure if I'm believing that." Soap raised an eyebrow and folded her arms.
"What do you mean..?" OJ avoided her gaze.
"You were literally talking to the… I don't even know what you were talking to, there was literally nothing." She glanced behind him, confirming that she saw no-object, nothing.
OJ glanced behind him, the glowy ball was still there, then looked back at Soap.
"Do you not… see it?" OJ asked, gesturing to the glowy ball.
"No…?" Soap's arms dropped to her sides.
"Huh…" OJ rested two of his fingers on his chin, making a thinking gesture.
"Hey wait a minute why are you up this late?" OJ asked, completely changing the topic.
"Oh uh, I couldn't sleep so I just thought I could continue cleaning..!" Soap muttered out.
"Hmm, alright. You do that while I go check the hotel grounds." OJ said as he started walking down the halls again with the glowy ball following close behind.
As he was walking and checking, he took occasional glances at the glowy ball, each glance makes him more confused and more irritated.
Not long after, when he took another glance at the glowy ball again, it was gone.
Skeptical about where it went, he was hit with the sounds of sizzling and chopping from the kitchen, it must've been Lightbulb, the hotel chef.
Scratching his head, he was pretty much done with making sure things in the hotel were nice and organized, he decided he'd go search for the glowy ball.
Not because he cared for it or anything but because he didn't want it to cause any trouble, which he kinda doubt it would since it was barely physical but you know.
He searched everywhere for it but he couldn't find it, maybe it decided to leave him alone? He shrugged, hearing a gasp from the kitchen with a following 'OMGA' afterwards, he decided to check it out.
Entering the kitchen, he saw Lightbulb not too far away from the kitchen's entryway, she had her hands on her head and confusingly enough she wasn't wearing her usual chef hat and apron but he decided to not ask about it.
He looked at the counter and what was on it and there were mountains of food, warm steam can still be seen from the pancakes and eggs and bacon perspectively, despite it being around one hour since he heard the sounds, he wore an impressed look, resting his hands on his hips until he glanced besides him and saw the glowy ball again, it had not left him.
Immediately he frowned and furrowed his eyebrows, dropping his arms to his sides.
Ignoring it, he decided he should strike a conversation with Lightbulb.
"Hey, Lightbulb! I didn't expect you to be up so early to make all of this, it's honestly impressive!" He smiled at her, she looked back with confusion visible on her face.
"Oh? I thought you or Soap made this, but then remembered that you both, uh… what's the word?" She rested a hand on her chin, making a thinking motion.
"Suck?" OJ said, unamused.
"Yea! You two suck at cooking." She perked up and smiled.
OJ gave her an unamused look, but then pondered for a second.
"Hey, if you didn't make this, then who did?" OJ asked, raising an eyebrow while he rested a hand on his chin.
"Don't know, but the food sure does smell good!" Lightbulb shrugged, smiling. She glanced back at the food as she stuck a tongue out.
OJ was confused but sighed, calling the hotel residents to eat and left the area to do more hotel managing things, and of course the glowy ball stuck by him the entire time which he didn't necessarily like but it's whatever.
Around afternoon, he caught himself talking to one of his good friends, Pickle. He decided to let at least one object know about the strange things that's been happening.
"So… you're saying that ever since you saw the glowy ball, strange things have been happening?" Pickle asked.
"Yea." OJ replied, glancing back at the glowy ball that was beside him.
"I don't know about you dude, but it seems to me the glowy ball is probably helping with all of these strange things." Pickle thought.
"How could it though? It's not anything physical neither is it even visible to anyone else, apparently." OJ thought back to the conversation he had with Soap earlier.
"What do you mean 'not visible to anyone else'?" Pickle questioned.
"Well, Soap and I had a conversation about it earlier, she mentioned she didn't see anything, and I'm also assuming you can't see it floating besides me since you haven't taken a single glance at it." OJ answered, Pickle took a glance besides him and in fact there was nothing.
"That's honestly weird…-" Pickle was caught off suddenly.
"P-Pickle!" Bomb called, smiling.
"Bomb!" Pickle smiled back.
"Ah, sorry dude. Me and Bomb were planning to hang out, catch you later, yea?" Pickle scratched the back of his head, apologising.
"Oh yea, no problem." OJ replied.
Pickle and Bomb waved at him, he waved back, resting his hands on his hips again and looking at the glowy ball besides him.
He thought back to what Pickle said to him about the glowy ball 'helping out', as much as he'd hate to admit, it seemed pretty believable. Maybe he should get to know it more…
Chapter 4: Not Just A Light.
Chapter Text
The next following day, OJ somehow managed to sleep pretty easily… and he also felt quite well rested, which is rare to say as a hotel manager, although his back does hurt since he ended up falling asleep at his desk instead of his bed, talk about posture.
He rubbed his eyes to find the glowy ball on the corner edge of his desk, which was where it stayed the first time it did.
He stared at it and smiled at it for the first time, he couldn't really explain it but the glowy ball seemed to glow lighter, I wonder why?
He got up from his chair and did his routine, and just like the first time, the glowy ball stayed at his desk until he finished getting ready and immediately went to float besides him.
He decided that he'd try to learn more about it today, somehow… being not a physical thing would be kinda hard to learn more about.
Nonetheless, he'll try, he is the only object who can see it after all, who knows? Maybe he'd report it to his cousin Test Tube and somehow make a scientific discovery and become rich.
Okay he's getting off topic, that seems very unlikely but it doesn't hurt to dream.
He got out of his room feeling fresh, it was a nice feeling honestly, usually he feels very heavy, not in a way that he's 'heavy' but it feels like something is always weighing him down, but this time, he feels light.
He couldn't necessarily describe the exact feeling as he'd never really felt anything near close to it, but he didn't let his thoughts take over as he is a busy hotel manager with a hotel to manage after all.
He went outside to check the mail, for some reason the glowy ball didn't follow him outside though, but he didn't question it, he did just plan to go get the mail and read and sort them out inside anyway.
He went back inside with a good pile in his arms and went to his office, the glowy ball following him again.
He sat down on his chair and looked through the pile and saw a letter with hearts, 'It must've been Salt… again.' He thought, he ripped the letter and threw it in the trash, the glowy ball went into the trash can for some reason but OJ quickly stood up to grab it but his hands went through it, he face palmed as he remembered that glowy ball isn't a physical object, hence it can't be physically touched.
"Please get out of the trash can…" OJ pleaded, it's not like it'd matter that much since it wouldn't stink but he didn't want a mess to accidentally be caused.
The glowy ball float up and got out of the trash can, floating besides OJ and seemingly 'looked' at him as if it was expecting something.
OJ crossed his arms and raised an eye brow as he looked at it, the glowy ball making some movements which he got the hint that it wants to know what that was about.
"Oh, it's just there's this one resident in the hotel who keeps acting all loving with me, we knew each other in high school and she had only like the biggest crush on me, and I guess she never got over it." OJ rolled his eyes, scratching his neck as he ranted.
"Hey, wait a minute. Why am I even telling you this?" OJ asked stupidly, pointing an accused finger at it.
The glowy ball seemed to darkened a bit, and went to dash away pretty quickly. OJ flinched, hanging his arms out as he tried to process what had just happened.
Before he could, the glowy ball returned with a chocolate bar floating near it, OJ looked shocked and had his mouth drop a bit, it wasn't physical so how could it be holding a physical item?
OJ looked at the chocolate bar it was 'holding', then looked at it, it seemed to move the chocolate bar a tad bit closer to his face and he immediately held his arms out in front of him and waved in defense.
"Oh no, no, I don't eat chocolate. But thanks for the offering." He stated, the glowy ball then threw the chocolate bar in a nearby trash can.
"Okay well, you didn't have to do that you know." OJ looked at the trash can it threw the chocolate bar in.
"But that was pretty thoughtful and sweet of you to do…" OJ mumbled, resting his hands on his hips.
The glowy ball seemed to glow lighter, floating up and down, indicating it was happy with OJ's response, OJ smiled.
"Maybe Pickle was right, maybe you were just trying to help." OJ rested a hand on his chin.
OJ looked at the glowy ball and smiled, resting his hand on his hip again.
"You know what, glowy ball? I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship."
