Work Text:
Back and forth. Back and forth. Saves the day, returns to a better future, only for it not to last and have to do it all over again. At first everything was fine. He'd keep doing this forever. However, forever does grow tiresome after a while.
His friends exist in the past. He has no place in the future. A reset button is practically pressed every week. So when beaten and bruised in another flaming future, he weakly puts a hand up towards the small portal that shines just ahead of him. A sign to return, to have this not happen. But he's so weak this time... his eyes shut themselves despite fighting it.
When Silver opens his eyes, everything is off. The world is blurry and way too bright. Nothing feels right and he has no idea where or when he is. So he cries, he couldn't stop himself. Silver wails and tries to move, but he seems to be constrained in something soft. Voices flit about, but he can't understand any of them.
He was a baby. After a significant amount of time, to Silver's shame, he realized he was a hoglet again. Parents were taking care of him, he lived in a decent little home, the world wasn't on fire. He had no idea why this time travel was so different from all the ones before, but thinking about it made his head hurt. And even though he couldn't access his powers like he used to, he could tell they were still within him - so no headaches was for the best.
His parents called him Venice. It was strange to be called a different name and he could only hope that when he got old enough they'd be willing to call him Silver instead. It may be easy enough since his white quills are a stark difference to his parents who have peach and gold quills. He also had a little sister. Her name was Amy and when he saw her for the first time his fur stood on end. Sure her quills weren't in yet, but he felt the familiarity. Amy Rose the Hedgehog, one of his friends from the past. Now his baby sister? What was going on?
Life carried on like any normal one would. Silver did eventually get access to his powers, not that he let his parents know about them, and he did get his name at least accepted as a 'nickname'. Amy was an amazing little sister. Silver never realized how much having someone so close to you could be. Though some days it did make him yearn to see Blaze again. How was she in the Sol dimension? Did it have access to whatever time or world he was in?
Silver had a hard time realizing how much time was passing, enjoying a childhood that he never had before. But he couldn't let himself forget where he came from; would he ever make it back to the future?
"Silver, did you see that?" The white hedgehog is broken from his thoughts as his sister tugs at his hand. That's right, they were walking home from school right now.
"Sorry Amy, I didn't." Silver shook his head and then looked around to see if whatever Amy noticed was still around.
"Your head is always in the clouds!" Amy whines and pulls her hand out of her brother's so that she could cross her arms and pout.
"I said sorry." Silver sighs. Even at her younger age Amy was strong-willed, and loud. "What did you see?"
"I'm not sure, it was so fast. Like 'whoosh'! I mostly saw the leaves on all the trees move. There was a flash of blue too!" Amy explains and it makes Silver's ears perk. Super fast blue thing that got Amy's attention... could it be?
"I'm sure you'll see it again if it was that interesting. Just don't get too entangled in your curiosity." Silver ruffles Amy's head quills which makes her squawk and bat his hand away. Was it really almost time for Sonic and Amy to meet? Guess he never realized just how young they were. But didn't that mean Eggman was already out and about causing havoc? How hadn't the news picked up on him?
"Weirdo." Amy sticks her tongue out before suddenly running ahead, only turning back when she realized Silver wasn't close behind. "Come on Silver, mom promised we could bake with her tonight after we finish our homework. The sooner we finish the better! Strawberry shortcake, strawberry shortcake~." She kept on humming the sing-song of her excitement.
"Alright, alright." Silver shakes his head, but smiles as he follows after his sister. Maybe here soon he'll show her his powers and fly them both home one day. Can't have her think she's the only one with cool tricks - though how she convinced their parents to handle a hammer he'll never know.
