Chapter 1: First Kiss

Chapter Text

15 years old

It’s funny how things can turn out in the way you least expect. Buttercup definitely didn’t see this one coming. Not that it’s a bad thing, just not how she thought it would happen. Or more like who it would happen with.

She felt his hand brush her cheek, making its way to the back of her neck and into her hair. He said he’s never done this before, but she’s starting to doubt that’s true as she feels his lips moving against hers. She did feel a slight tremble in his hands when they touched her. He held her carefully as if he wasn’t sure if he should, even after she said it was fine. That this was the whole point of why they were doing what they were doing in the first place.

He slowly pulled away and his dark green eyes looked at her hesitantly, something else hidden behind them. And then he was leaning forward again.

She’s never felt like this before. Her heart was beating like crazy and her breath was deepening with every passing second. Yeah, this wasn’t bad at all. She could definitely get used to it.

But then she remembered, she wasn’t suppose to get used to it. Because they were just practicing. That’s all this is suppose to be. Practice for when they had to do it with someone they actually liked. Practice so that they won’t embarrass themselves in front of someone they actually liked.

It’s a good thing they don’t like each other like that, it’s not as embarrassing when they accidentally clash their teeth a little too hard against each other, or when they accidentally nick the other in the lips and they start to bleed. It’s not embarrassing when she places her hands on her lap, then moves them to his shoulders, unsure of where to put them, but eventually settling on the arm with the hand that was buried in her hair.

It was okay to make embarrassing mistakes in front of each other because they were just best friends.

So they agreed to practice until they weren’t embarrassing themselves anymore.
