Chapter 1: Aaron Hotchner

Chapter Text

"The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life."

- Richard Bach

David Rossi didn't think much about soulmates. Most people had at least one soulmate, which were usually platonic, but there were still some people who didn't have one.

When he was young, he hoped he had at least one soulmate and sometime during his teenage years, he started feeling pain which didn't come from his own injuries. It was usually only from minor wounds, but at an alarming rate. At one side, he was glad he had a soulmate, but then on the other, he worried about them and what they had to be going through.

Then he joined the Marine Corps and ended up in Vietnam, where he didn't have much spare time to think about his soulmate. The only moment he had time to do so was when he ended up with a concussion in infirmary. He was glad that painkillers helped ease his, and based on many research studies, his soulmate's pain.

Sometime following his return to America (one good thing that came from his concussion), he joined the FBI and helped Jason Gideon with the founding of the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI. The start was rather rough, and they didn´t have the best workplace, but they managed.

And he was happy when his soulmate didn´t hurt that much anymore, possibly moving to a safer environment, but that happiness was rather short lived when he started feeling similar pains to the first one over the course of a few years, each different from the others. One of those stopped abruptly after the first time, the soulmate probably using blockers, but the others remained.

But, since the possibility of meeting them and saving them from their pains, like they saved people with Jason, was almost astronomical, he ended up focusing on his career and stopped thinking about them, only reminded of them when he got hurt on a case, or when one of his started hurting again, or when he was reminded of their pain on particular cases.

A few years later, he met Aaron Hotchner, an agent from the Seattle division at the time, when working a case. Aaron inherited the case from agent Bidwell, with whom Rossi worked on the case before in 1992. They tried to lure the killer out of hiding, but he wasn´t active in the area anymore after the two kills.

It was… Easy, working with Aaron. Easier than any other officer, agent or person he had encountered, which wasn´t especially hard, considering how the other officers usually behaved. What was weird was that working with Aaron Hotchner might have been even easier and better than working with Jason.

Even if he knew Aaron only for a few weeks while they tried to gather more clues about their unsub, he found himself being friends with Aaron, keeping a light hearted banter sometimes. Afterwards, he tried to leave his guards up, but in the end, he almost ended up giving Aaron his business card with his personal number, to call David whenever he needed or wanted.

David tried to not think too hard about that, or the fact it might imply, after the case grew cold. At least until he met Aaron on another case.

They managed to catch this unsub before he killed another victim, but not before he managed to get a shot at Hotch. Luckily, he got shot in his bullet-proof vest, which was far better than dealing with a gunshot in the chest.

David fired a shot at the unsub, the bullet hitting the unsub's abdomen, one of the officers immediately going to help the unsub, calling for medic. Rossi wanted to go check on the younger agent, but he didn't have time to do so before a sharp intense pain erupted from his chest. He fell down on the ground, and somewhere farther away, he heard someone yell, “Two agents down, we need more medics here!”

"I'm fine, get agent Hotchner help,” he managed to say.

Then the pain stopped.

David, who still remembered the pain from before, but too worried about the other agent to care, quickly got up and went over to check on Aaron.

Aaron's eyes were closed, but he was still breathing, even though shallowly. He checked for a pulse and was relieved when he found it. He was next to the other agent as the ambulance arrived and before he knew it, he was on his way to a hospital with Aaron.

Hotch ended up with broken ribs, which meant he would have to be careful for the next few weeks and had to take pain medication for the time being.

“How are you feeling?” spoke up the older agent.

“Like I was shot in a bulletproof vest,” remarked Aaron.

He hated hospitals. The lights were usually too bright and white, and the hospitals smelled so strongly of disinfection it overwhelmed him. He could almost taste the sharp alcoholic smell and he felt like he was choking on it. He started tapping his fingers against the bed and repeating a few sentences from his favourite book in his head.

He thought about mentioning his problems to Rossi, like asking if it would be possible to dim the lights somehow, but decided that it probably wouldn't be a good idea, based on his past experiences. He will manage, he was used to dealing with it.

“Yeah, I figured. You really need to be more careful.”

“Says the guy who got a severe concussion,” muttered Hotch.

David considered giving him a glare and defending himself that it wasn't his fault, but given the fact that Aaron was in a hospital, he decided against it.

Later on, the two agents tried to meet at least once a week, and about a month later Aaron joined the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Chapter 2: Spencer Reid

Notes:

Trigger warning for panic attack

Chapter Text

Sometime following Aaron's transfer to the BAU unit, they were invited to present Behavioural Analysis and Profiling at one of Caltech´s classes.

After the presentation, one of the students, who looked far too young to be attending college, stayed behind.

“Hello, can we help you with anything? You can call me David and this is Aaron,” spoke up Rossi in a friendly manner.

“Hi. I'm Spencer Reid. I just wanted to thank you for coming here and giving a lecture, it was great. I wanted to ask if you are going to work the case from Seattle? They discovered the third body of Jane Doe this morning, from the news and photos it seems like the unsub might have gone with overkill with her. I think it's highly probable that he will kill again soon and he might devolve,” responded Spencer, playing with his hands.

“Yeah, our colleagues are there now. I didn´t expect anyone this young to be this interested in criminology and profiling,” nodded David, giving the kid a smile.

“I just like researching it. It is really interesting and recently I started learning about geographical profiling, albeit it might not help with the search for the unsub in some cases. I think I might try to apply to the BAU someday in the future,” replied Spencer.

He might have been sharing too much, but that was a problem for him sometimes, especially with topics he was interested in. At least the two agents were still friendly with him and didn´t look bothered or annoyed with him, as his teachers or other students sometimes did.

“How old are you?” asked Aaron softly the young student, not wanting to scare him off and trying to soften his expression.

He noticed that the kid had a bruise on his arm, where he felt one of his soulmates's pain yesterday (it might have been a coincidence, though). He felt angry at the people who might have hurt the kid, when he was studying at university, where he was supposed to be safe.

However, he was very careful not to show his anger on his face, since it would have a negative effect on the kid. When he looked at Dave, he noticed the change in his expression as opposed to when they were giving the lecture. It seemed like he wasn't the only one who liked the kid and wanted to keep him safe.

21. I look young for my age, meant Spencer to say.

“17, but I already have my first PhD and am working on second and third,” came out instead.

Spencer froze. That wasn't how this type of conversation was supposed to go! He scripted it! And every time anyone asked how old he was, he always got his answer right! The agents were nice, sure, even seemed trustworthy and didn't mind his lack of eye contact and him not keeping still, but that didn't mean they wouldn't take him away from his mom if they knew what the situation was. He didn't want to go to the foster system, he knew exactly how most kids of his type ended.

His mom needed him, and even if he was lucky in the foster system, he would still be sent away, somewhere else than here, he would be without his mom, there wouldn't be anyone he knew there, he wouldn't know what to do, or how to do it. What if the foster family didn't want to put up with him and kicked him out? What if they beat him? What if they sold him off?

“I'm sorry, sorry, p- please don't take me away from my mom, you c- can't take me away from her,” he pleaded.

His heartbeat became frantic and he almost didn't notice when his breathing became rapid as he hyperventilated. The people were saying something, but he couldn't understand them.

Someone touched his shoulder and he would have probably started panicking even more because of it, but this person felt safe.

The person guided him to sit down and he managed to finally understand what they were saying.

“Spencer, can you follow my breathing? Try to focus on your breathing. Inhale,” softly spoke Aaron, deeply inhaling and counting to 5 in his mind, before instructing Spencer to hold his breath, counting to five again, giving the instruction to exhale and counting to five again.

They went through that for a few times, before Spencer's breathing was calmer and he seemed more aware of his surroundings.

“Do you feel better now?”

Spencer wanted to reply with I'm fine, before he remembered his previous experience with trying to lie to the two agents, so he answered, “I think so. I'm really sorry for that.”

“You have nothing to apologize for, kid,” spoke up David.

“Yeah,” nodded Aaron, before asking, “Do you want to get lunch with us? If you don't have any classes today.”

“Sure, that sounds nice,” agreed Spencer little hesitantly, trying to plan what he could do to stop them from putting him in the foster system. Part of him stopped at the fact that he couldn't lie to the two agents, but ultimately he decided that the problem at hand with the foster system was far more important.

When they got out of the building, Aaron gently spoke up, “Do you know any good places around here where we could eat?”

“There is a place which should be good, from what I heard and saw. And there shouldn't be as many people now,” replied Spencer after a minute of thinking.

“Okay, will you guide us there please?” asked Rossi the young student, who he was almost hundred percent sure was another of his familial soulmates.

Spencer nodded and then they were on their way. The place Spencer led them to seemed cozy, it was quiet there and the lights were dimmed.

They found a free table in the corner, which overlooked almost the entire room.

“Spencer, what would you like? We are going to be paying,” spoke up Hotch when they all opened their menus.

“Just a latte and sandwich with ham and cheese, thank you,” responded Spencer, not really understanding their intentions behind giving him food and drink, but deciding to not turn down free food, since food was scarce. And it wasn't like they were going to just straight up drug it, if he held on to it the whole time.

After Hotch and Rossi ordered their food, Spencer was sitting stiffly in the chair, too nervous and stressed to be comfortable.

“Would you rather talk about it now or after lunch?” spoke up Aaron gently.

“Now,” said Reid, who didn't even want to think about eating before he managed to get the two agents to understand why they should just leave him alone, don't take him away from his house and mom and don't put him in a foster system.

“Alright. You won't get into any trouble for responding, kid, alright?” asked Rossi and after Spencer nodded, he continued, “Did you want to lie to us about your age?”

Spencer nodded again, not really feeling up to voicing this answer.

“Okay, that's okay. Would you mind answering some questions for us?” asked Hotch.

“It's not like I have a choice, is it?” muttered Spencer.

“You do,” assured him Hotch.

Spencer looked at his hands. He didn't believe them, in his experience he didn't really have any choice with answering to adults, but part of him wanted to believe, wanted to feel safe again, and that part insisted that the two agents were safe.

“You can ask,” he hesitantly agreed.

“Thank you. Would you be fine with sharing why you wanted to lie about your age and what your home situation is like?” softly continued Aaron.

“My records at school say 21, it's easier. My father left a long time ago,” replied Spencer.

“What about your mom?” spoke up David.

“She's- We are sort of fine where we are. You can't put me in the foster system. I will just run away. No one will ever catch me, I have an IQ of 187, even though I don't believe intelligence can be accurately quantified, and a very capable friend who would help me. As a matter of fact, said friend might be watching us right now,” decisively said Spencer.

The two agents had a weird look on their faces, and he couldn't figure out what they were thinking.

“Spencer…” started speaking Aaron, when his phone rang with three beeps he had set up for his friend.

“Sorry, I need to write her back,” excused Spencer himself and waited for the approval of the two agents before taking the phone and reading the messages from Pen.

Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi are safe. Prove/hint medical records (most recent) for broken ribs (A.H.) and sprained wrist (D.R.). You can trust them to help. If not, I will eat my own phone.

Are you stalking me? he texted her back with a small smile.

Always. You missed your check in.

He read her immediate response before focusing on Aaron and David. He relaxed, partly giving into his instincts which were telling him that they were safe. Then a realization slammed into him.

“Are you two my soulmates?” he barely whispered out.

Spencer was of course aware he had soulmates, it was hard not to, with the shared pain coming from different people, he just hadn't thought he would ever meet any more of them. Originally, before he met Pen, he hadn't thought he would meet any of them.

Aaron smiled at him and David nodded.

And Spencer had to focus on his breathing so he didn't spiral or have a breakdown or start crying or cursing.

At that moment, a large dog with an appearance similar to a wolf, came to the table with a happy expression and bumped Reid's legs before jumping up on his lap and on the couch he was sitting on, and he started scratching the dog's ears.

“Hi, Lin,” Spencer warmly greeted her and Lin let out a rumble, a noise similar to purring.

“This is Rosalind, she's a Czechoslovakian wolfdog. Her owner brings her here sometimes, on quieter days. She has a canistherapy certificate and she also holds an honorary degree in Social Science, because she attended the class with her owner,” he explained to the two agents.

“She seems lovely,” spoke up Aaron quietly.

The first time Spencer met Rosalind, it was his first time in the university, and he was stressed out about it. Then the wolfdog came to him with a wagging tail and open mouth, tongue sticking out, demanding to be pet.

“And to my house situation, my mom has schizophrenia and needs to take meds, but I take care of her,” he said in a quieter voice, feeling more nervous. Aaron Hotchner and David Rossi did pass Pen's requirements and they were his soulmates, but he never told anyone, who was an adult adult, about his mom.

He averted his eyes from the two agents to look at the wolfdog in his lap.

“She seems to be getting worse,” he whispered, trying to keep his voice even and steady himself with breathing exercises. He also apparently stopped petting Lin, because a moment later she head-butted his hand until he started to pet her again.

The waitress brought them their food and drinks and when she left, Aaron started speaking, his voice low and gentle.

“Spencer, I'm sure you were doing a great job looking after yourself and your mom, but I am very sorry you had to go through all of that. I don't doubt that you can take care of yourself and your mom or that you do have an IQ of 187 or the fact that you have a PhD, but I would have a proposition. We are certainly not sending you off to the foster system, if you were worried about that.”

Spencer nodded.

“If you agree, I would like to adopt you. You would still go to college, we could get your mom help she needs and you would have a safe place and people to go to. But I would also like to request, if you agree, that you would live with me. You don't have to answer right away, and you could go with me and Dave for dinner and meet up a few times before you decide.”

Spencer was stunned and didn't know what to say. He didn't want to leave his mom, but she did need help and he could visit her. And the two agents were safe and declared so even by Penelope, so it will be fine if he accepts, right?

His phone buzzed again with a text: If you won't accept, after you think about it, I'm kidnapping you. You cannot stop me :)

Spencer chuckled when he saw the text, and Rosalind, seemingly satisfied that he was happy now, went over to check on Hotch and Rossi, who both petted her, before she made her way to Sarah, her owner.

“Okay, I- I would like that. And Penelope, my soulmate and basically sister, says she would kidnap me if I didn't,” he smiled.

“Is she stalking you?” asked Rossi jokingly.

“Yeah, I missed a check in with her,” sighted Reid, still smiling.

“Alright, we will talk more about the adoption later, you should eat something now before it gets cold,” spoke up Hotch.

“Okay,” agreed Reid.

Chapter 3: Penelope Garcia

Chapter Text

Penelope Garcia was sitting in an interrogation room. She was stupid. She used almost all precautions she knew to leave no evidence leading to her, but she was stupid and kept using her signature and hacker name. Now she was held by the stupid FBI, over some stupid company which didn't have the decency to not test on innocent little creatures.

At least she heard that the BAU unit was in town, so there was a slight possibility she would get to see her little brother before she was sent to prison. Some time after he was adopted by Aaron Hotchner, he was asked by Jason Gideon to join the team. She used to meet up with Spencer at least every week, which continued even after his adoption and new job. She even met Aaron and David on a few occasions, who were also hers, and Spencers, soulmates.

The moment she saw their medical records, she was sure of it. One does not simply forget the moment one and one's brother almost hit the ground because of the sharp hot pain of broken ribs, nor does one forget the ache in the wrist.

Penelope made sure that none of her emotions were shown on her face or in her body language. That wouldn't be good. She needed to remain calm and control herself and her emotions.

“Hello, Miss Garcia. I'm Aaron Hotchner from the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI,” greeted Aaron Hotchner who came into the room.

She quickly inhaled, one of the very few pieces of evidence of her surprise. She wasn't expecting they would send him in.

“Nice suit,” she remarked.

The agent's expression slightly shifted and he looked amused? Maybe? She wasn't good at reading people. Or, people who weren't Spencer. She understood computers much more. They didn't lie, or have a whole secret language within simple words.

“Do you know why you are here?” he asked.

“Because I wear black clothing, which is apparently a crime?”

“You hacked into the systems of a cosmetic company,” said Aaron, ignoring her remark, and continuing when he saw that she wanted to speak up, “which does test on animals when they shouldn't do that, but hacking is still a crime punishable with prison sentence. There is also the other choice aside from prison. You could become a technical analyst for the BAU and help save people. You could assist us on cases and catch criminals with us.”

And, well, who was she to say no to that offer? To help innocent humans? So she ended up giving Aaron her resume on pink glittering stationary.

The other agent that came into the room with her purse, Derek Morgan, based on his credentials, stayed with her when Hotch had to leave after someone called him that they found a suspect.

“Hey, when the FBI has a hot guy calendar, is it just twelve months of you?” she remarked with a small smirk.

The agent had a weirded out look, but he still unlocked her handcuffs and led her out of the room.

Penelope immediately spotted Spencer in a room with a board with a map, photos and words.

She was let into the room by the agent, who still didn't introduce himself, which was rude, but at least he opened the door for her.

“Hey, Penelope! Did you take the deal?” smiled at Spencer sheepishly.

“You sneaky little genius, why would I ever voluntarily agree to catch criminals with you and your dad? Do you know how much I would suffer doing so?” she responded, changing her tone of voice slightly so Spencer knew she was joking.

The other agent looked ready to defend him, when Spencer giggled.

“Sure, I knew you would hate that. By the way, congratulations on the new job, I brought you offerings."

Derek looked like someone just remarked that the moon doesn't exist and that the sky was pink and covered in glitters.

“You shouldn't do that, you need money.”

Spencer gave her unimpressed look and then pulled 50 dollars from his pocket.

Penelope chuckled.

“You met up with Dave before the case?”

“Yeah, he still doesn't want to understand that I help him with his books for free,” muttered Spencer before putting the money in his bag and pulling out a small gift bag, which he handed to her.

“The eyeshadow is from a firm which doesn't test on animals, of course,” he said as she looked at the gifts.

The mentioned eyeshadow was sparkly and blue. There were also pink glitter pens, which she was absolutely using to sign the contract with the FBI, and a pair of colorful earrings.

“I accept your offerings and you shall be getting a wish in return,” smiled Penelope.

“I would like to wish for some uncertain person to stop stalking me and giving me food,” tried Spencer.

“Sorry, baby brother, none can do, that is forbidden,” cheerfully replied Garcia and handed him a package of his favourite candy from her purse.

Spencer pounted for a moment before he smiled and took the candy from her.

Chapter 4: Emily Prentiss

Notes:

Trigger warnings for kidnapping, episode Revelations (season 2 episode 15)

Chapter Text

Once Emily was old enough to understand the concept of how soulmates work and the fact that any time she hurt herself she would be hurting her soulmate, she started wearing blockers, special devices usually placed on bands on arms, which, as the name suggests, blocked the connection between those with a shared soul.

Some time after she helped put away Ian Doyle, the leader of the Valhalla, she joined the BAU team, which didn't exactly go smoothly. The Unit chief, Aaron Hotchner, didn't sign any forms for her to join and thanks to the fact the whole team was suspicious of her.

Then one of their members got kidnapped on the case, another got attacked by dogs, and she experienced first-hand how soulmates work. The only members of the team to remain calm and act as a support to others were Hotch and David Rossi, who was in fact retired, but Hotch apparently called him for help as soon as he figured something was wrong.

She couldn't understand that, how could Hotch be so calm when the youngest member of their team had his life at stake and was at hands of a dangerous criminal? More so the member to which was Hochner acting like a father to? The kid was only 25 to her knowledge, for god's sake!

The others were visibly devastated, but working through, dead-set on finding Reid. Rossi and Hotch forced them to wear the pain blocking devices, if they didn't already have one on them (the only agents who did were Morgan and Emily herself).

They just returned from questioning the Hankel’s neighbour with JJ, who was currently in the bathroom for too long. Emily went over to the bathroom door, deciding to check on her just to be sure. She knocked on the doorway, to let her presence be known since the door was opened. JJ quickly turned to her, a haunted expression on her face, the bandage on her arm halfway undone.

“Hi. Are you okay?” asked Emily, trying to make herself as non threatening as possible and moving from the only escape route.

JJ opened her mouth, looking like she wanted to say something, but she couldn't for some reason. She looked panicked at the fact, before she came to some conclussion as she got a calm expression on her face.

“I will be,” she replied, putting away the bandage and cleaning her injury before wrapping it in a clean bandage.

That was weird, Emily thought and wrote it up in her head for later notice.

“Okay. If you ever need to talk about it, I´m here. We will find him and get him to safety, I promise,” softly said Emily.

“Yeah, Hotch will look to it,” spoke up JJ with a small smile.

“What? Why? He doesn't seem to care about whether we find him or not,” defensively answered Emily, still angry at their boss.

JJ looked at her in utter disbelief before muttering out, “Why would you think that? Of course he cares, Spence is his son.”

“What?” yelped out Emily.

“That's why he called David Rossi for help. Garcia knows more about it, though. Reid doesn't talk about it, nor does Hotch, but he still has him as his emergency contact and lives with him,” explained JJ.

Emily was looking at her with a completely shocked expression.

That wasn't possible, if Reid was in fact Hotch's son, Hotch would show some emotions, especially since they were getting a live video. And especially given the fact that she had a feeling they were soulmates, from what she saw on their cases. She certainly wouldn´t be so calm if someone kidnapped her child, she would shoot the damn bastard, then send him to prison for life and on top of it make it so his life in prison would be worse than hell.

JJ sighted before walking out of the bathroom, leaving Emily, who was trying to make sense of the situation, behind.

She left the bathroom only a few seconds later, choosing to focus on the bigger problem rather than the fact that her boss was apparently a bad parent. Who allowed his kid to go into the FBI, despite his age and the probability of something happening to him.

“Do we have any news? Where is Hotch?” she asked Garcia and JJ, who were the only ones in the room with computers. Gideon and Morgan were going through the diaries and Hotchner was gone, along with the retired agent.

“They are outside with Dave, I'm still trying to find…” muttered Garcia, not taking her eyes off the screen.

“You know David Rossi?” raised her eyebrows Emily, JJ looking at the technical analyst with a surprised expression.

“Yeah, he's mine, Spence's and Hotch's soulmate. Now hush, or I will have to send you into time-out. You can go help Derek and Gideon, if you want, and don't want to just stare at me while I work.”

Emily blinked a few times. She knew that Reid was Garcia's soulmate and that Hotch and Reid were probably soulmates too, but she wasn't aware of their connection to David Rossi. That was entirely unexpected. It would be even more surprising if Garcia was even Hotchner's soulmate.

At that moment, Hotch and Rossi walked into the room, without any words.

Hotch's attention was on the live video, ignoring everything else. Spencer was left alone by Tobias and he was awake, blinking at the light in the room. He was tapping his fingers on the chair, but Emily wrote it off as a nervous habit she seemed him do many times before.

Then Hotch began mouthing letters, before yelping out, “Does any of you have a paper and pen?! Please! It's important!”

Garcia stopped clicking on the keyboard, taking one of her notebooks and a glitter pen out of her purse, handing them to Hotch.

He nodded, opening the notebook and writing something down, before stopping and looking at the video again.

Then he nodded to himself again a few times, before writing again.

Then he showed them the page, which had dots, dashes and letters written down.

“Are you sure it's Morse code? Reid taps his fingers a lot, doesn't he?” reacted Emily.

“Yeah, it might have been a coincidence. We all want to find Spencer, and we will get him to safety,” softly spoke JJ, her voice the same one she used on distressed parents in their cases.

Hotch gave them a stare, but she wasn't able to read his expression. He might have been annoyed?

“We use it all the time, sometimes it's… easier,” he explained, absentmindedly tapping with the pen.

“Yeah, and Spence is repeating the word,” backed him up Garcia, already clicking away on her computer.

“It seems like a good try,” agreed Rossi, before calling out, “Jason, did you find anything in Hankel's diaries having to do with cementeries?”

Gideon went over into the room. Hotch immediately stood up straighter and stopped tapping the borrowed pen against the notebook.

“I don´t think I found anything. Morgan?” he answered.

“I found something!” chirped Garcia, spinning on her chair for a couple of moments.

“Tobias Hankel ran away from his father for some time, and he was hiding at a cemetery at Marshall's Perish, you have the address on your phone the minute you need it."

“Maybe Tobias kidnapped Reid because he believed he would be protecting him from his father?” suggested Emily.

“That seems possible,” agreed Morgan, who appeared in the room, standing behind Gideon.

“Alright, Gideon, you will stay here with Penelope and JJ, me and David will go first and call reinforcements from the closest police stations, Emily and Derek will go in a car after us,” spoke up Hotch, his voice calm and firm, not leaving any room for debate.

Everyone on the team agreed, Gideon with regret apparent on his face, and a few minutes later, they were on the cemetery, breaking the door to the building, Hotch shooting Tobias Hankel, who was standing near Reid with something in his hands, as soon as he entered with unreadable expression. Then he immediately went to Reid, his expression changing and growing soft, freeing Reid from the bindings quickly.

“Hey, it´s okay, it´s okay, I´ve got you, you´re safe now, you´re safe,” he started whispering to him, holding his son close.

Reid hid his face into Hotch´s shoulder and he was saying something, but Emily wasn´t able to hear his response.

She went to check on Tobias and heard Morgan calling for medics. Tobias died before they got there despite her best efforts, the only thing they could do was declare him officially dead.

Hotch ended up going to hospital with Reid in the ambulance, which had her wondering if she might have misjudged her boss (she probably had, but she was too glad Reid was okay to care right now). Everyone on the team knew how much Hotch and Reid hated going to hospitals.

A few weeks later, when she had a head-ache and forgot to take her blocker on, she found out more about herself and her soulmates, when Garcia brought her tea, Reid got her painkillers, handing them to her without any thought. Then JJ came to her, offering Emily to use her office to get some rest. The most surprising event for the day though, was when she found Hotch standing near her desk, who ordered her to take some time off for the day if she needed.
