Chapter Text

“You are moving too much, junge!!“ The medic hissed at the man who laid beneath him. Jeremy sat as still as he possibly could but with how cold the infirmary was he couldn't help but shiver. “Sorry doc! It's freezin’ in here!” the younger merc complained. The combination on the cold weather, the eerie silence, and the doctor prodding hands were all making him nothing but nervous

The scout had come for a checkup, as one did when feeling sick. As of lately, he'd been extremely paranoid about everything. Anytime the subject of eating would come up he'd feel sick to his stomach. The feeling only amplified around certain teammates; the medic being one of those people. Though he had no other options if he wanted help, so here he sat

“Well there seems to be nothing wrong with your vision. All the other tests I've run have come back with nothing either. Maybe you need something in your stomach besides that disgusting soda.” The doctor spoke dismissively, walking away from the other man and towards the sink to wash his hands. Though this answer didn't satisfy the other.

Scout stood up quickly walking with the medic towards the sink standing a good distance away as he began to speak. “Yeah but I ain't been drinking Bonk either, doc! You gotta believe me. Something is wrong with me!” At this point he was nearly shouting begging for help. This feeling hadn't stopped and at this rate he would starve to death before anything else.

“Look. There is nothing I can do for you. Now leave before there is more than something psychological wrong with you.” behavior like this was also partly why the scout had become weary of being around the doctor. For the past few weeks the German had begun to get very violent and angry. Compared to his once compassionate yet crazy nature this raised a few eyebrows but nobody acknowledged it in fear of upsetting their only healer.

With a nervous gulp Scout nodded quickly grabbing his headphones and satchel and rushing out of the infirmary. The heavy doors loudly swinging shut behind him only amplified his fear. Scout continued to walk speedily through the halls of the base. ‘It's all in your head Jeremy.’ he tried to reassure himself, heart still racing as if he was running a marathon.

As if his day couldn't get worse while being stuck in his head he accidentally bumped into someone and of course it had to be the engineer. Scout was knocked to the floor which was strange considering he wasn't walking that fast and it seemed neither was the Engineer. As he looked up to meet the gaze of the other man he swore he'd noticed a sort of strange look from the engineer. Not one of concern but instead one of utter disgust as if he was looking at a meaningless creature rather than his own teammate.

This look was quickly covered by a soft and concerned one as Engie leaned down and extended his metal hand towards the speedster. “Woah there! Best be careful where you're walking, son!” The way he spoke seemed perfectly rehearsed and fake in a strange way. Though that might have just been coming from his pre-existing nerves around him. Scout took the shorter man’s hand as he stood up. He attempted to let go of the cybernetic hand but it felt as if the grip had tightened and he wasn't able to let go

Jeremy looked down at the engineer with an awkward smile. “You alright there? You took quite the tumble?” now getting a better look at the Texan he'd noticed he wasn't holding anything. This was strange because he could have sworn with how much force he was knocked over with that the engineer was carrying several pieces of scrap metal. “Uh yeah right, sorry hard-hat”

Scout chuckled nervously looking down into the Texans lifeless goggles. He watched the engineers' brows furrow a bit before he finally released the runners hand. “Just be more mindful, yeah?” Scout nodded quickly and walked away quickly just trying to get out of the intense atmosphere. He couldn't stand to be around Dell any longer

In the past few weeks since he'd stopped eating which was normal when he was sick. His Ma said it wasn't good for a growing boy not to eat but here he was. The Strange thing though was after he stopped eating the cafeteria food his anxiety started to skyrocket. He'd especially started to feel sick when he was in the same room as the Engineer and Medic. The feeling was less smothering when around other mercs like Pyro of Heavy. Strangely enough it completely disappeared when around Demoman.

The Scout continued down the hallway making sure to stay clear of corners so as to not bump into someone again. Finally he made it to his room door and quickly barreled in slamming the metal door behind him. He was hyperventilating again. It felt like his heart was about to jump right out of his chest but after a moment it passed. He still couldn’t help but feel as if someone was watching him. Jeremy flicked the look on the door, throwing off his hat, bag and shoes and just about jumping into the comforts of his bed. “Maybe ma was right, I shouldn’t have taken this job.” he muttered, finally shutting his eyes and starting to drift into sweet sweet unconsciousness.
