Chapter Text
Murdoc got a hair tie off his wrist and started pulling his hair up into a ponytail while he walked towards the high school. He wasn’t even at the outside tables before he started hearing rumors about a local girl getting killed. He wasn’t sure how true they were, especially the “her eyes were carved into X’s like a cartoon” but he knew he would find out eventually from Mac since his adoptive father, Jack, worked in the police department. He completely forgot that he had his phone on silent until he heard footsteps rushing directly towards his current location. It wasn’t long until Mac ran into him and hugged him in the process, almost knocking them both over.
“Murdoc! I was worried when you weren’t responding to my text messages!” Murdoc awkwardly giggled as he blue screened for a second thinking about Mac’s response oh. oh that definitely means the rumors are true oh no. “I had my phone on silent, sorry and I’m assuming the rumors are true based on your reaction?” He watched the blond gulp and nod before grabbing his arm to drag him towards their table. The friend group that Mac made was huge compared to most. It consisted of Riley, Sam, Jill, Bozer, Leanna, plus Charlie and Desi(aka his older sister) who were only there because they helped out the teachers so they were technically all seniors but them. Riley and Sam waved enthusiastically towards them while they reached the table and sat down.
Desi immediately ruffled his hair lightly before sighing. “You know there’s already rumors that you killed Amber and it probably doesn’t help that she made that rumor about you two dating.” He groaned, sliding his hands down his face because of course he’d get blamed he’s the outcast of the school and his and Desi’s parents being missing does NOT help there was a rumor he had killed them both and dismembered their bodies. After collective sighs and occasional comments from Riley the topic changed to movies they enjoyed which triggered Mac to talk about X-men until the bell for first block rang.
The school day went by as normally well if you don’t count the whispers and stares today. Murdoc was scrolling on his phone while walking towards the door. He froze mid step when he got a notification from Mac his mouth went into a thin line because instead of Mac being normal and saying he was close by he’d always send him a photo of himself from a random angle. He looked around to see if he could see him which of course he didn’t why would Mac make himself obvious. He opened the message and noted it was a photo from behind so that meant Mac would tap his shoulder in 3 seconds tops. He felt the tap and playfully sighed before turning towards the blond who was smiling at him.
“You really need to stop doing that, you know? and before you ask, yes I’m staying with you.” He watched Mac’s smile grow as he started dragging him out of the school and to his car. Murdoc watched Mac quickly get into the driver's seat while he got into the passenger seat, he put his seatbelt on and sighed. He was never allowed to drive the car no matter how many times he stayed with Mac because according to Mac he’d quote on quote get them into such a bad accident that they’d be completely unrecognizable and that they’d never find out who they were. He quietly hummed We Know Where You Sleep, he knew Mac didn’t like most of The Paper Chase’s music and that he’d probably be kicked out the car if Mac even recognized the music. The drive wasn’t long to Mac’s house so they were there before he could even get comfortable, they got out and headed inside the house where a very exhausted Jack was standing at the counter looking over a file. Murdoc eyed the file from a distance trying to see anything but when he saw Jack's stare when he looked up he knew that wasn’t happening until he fell asleep.
He yawned and walked over to the couch putting his bag down beside it before flopping onto it and taking his hair down. Mac quickly sat down and got comfortable and turned on the tv to something random. Murdoc understood quickly and moved his head onto the other's lap, he hummed when Mac started messing with his hair. He and MacGyver had been dating in secret since 10th grade; the only people who knew were Jack, his co-worker Matty, and the friend group. He started drifting off to sleep until he heard his phone go off, not just his phone but Mac and Jack’s phones too. Okay that’s odd he watched Mac’s face drop as he checked his phone and heard Jack scrambling to contact his co-workers. Okay that’s definitely not good what could it be?? he got his phone out of his pocket and tapped on the suspicious message. His heart sank so that’s what happened to his mom. It was a message with a bunch of evidence leading to his own father killing his mom.
He must’ve gotten the car into a nearby lake somehow hence the missing persons case but what happened to him? He sat up before the doorbell rang and his heart sank again his gut feeling was telling him not to check especially when Mac and Jack froze looking towards the door. But instead of being sane he decided fuck it and got up he tried swallowing down his nerves while he opened the door. There was a package.. a package? What kind of prank is this? He crouched down and opened it and..what.the.fuck it was his father’s head just the head, cut open with a photo of his football day’s in the box as well his brain looked so..wrong he slowly stood up attempting to hide his shaking. He didn’t want to scream especially considering it’s his old man the known abuser of the town but his utterly stupid traitorous body did. He screamed louder than he ever has before, Mac jumped up and wrapped his arms around him making sure to pull him away from the box while Jack went to go check it himself, still on the damn phone.
