Wednesday's POV —

The Addams Family's car rumbled through the gate as we approached Nevermore Academy again. It reeked like old leather and many hidden foreboding secrets. How perfect.

I stepped out into the cold, the school looming ahead. Lurch stood behind me, hauling my belongings with his usual silent efficiency.

I gave my parents and brother a brief, cold goodbye and began the walk to my dorm room. Ophelia Hall. The weight of my belongings lighter than the weight on my mind. I'm relieved my family had not accompanied to my dorm this time. Their presence only deepened the shadows around me.

As I entered my dorm room, I get greeted by my roommate. The bright and relentlessly enthusiastic Enid Sinclair.

"Howdy, Roomie!" Enid called, spotting me through the doorway as she walked toward me. I paused, then replied in my usual flat tone.

"Hello, Enid." My voice was calm, almost bored, though there was something beneath it I couldn't quite name.

She stepped forward with a smile and her arms open trying to pull me into another one of her embraces. I stepped back before she smothered me. Her smile faltered for a moment before she forced one back as she brushed off the rejection.

A familiar hand. Thing. Appeared behind me. He signed "Hello" to Enid, who noticed him immediately and lit up, waving back in response without hesitation.

She seemed genuinely thrilled to see me. Quite the contrary for me. Before I could protest, Enid started dragging my trunks to my side of the dormitory. Helping me unpack I assumed. I offered a small comment on her gesture.

I glared at her. "I don't need the help." I said, flatly.

She raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? An extra set of hands could be helpful." The blonde questioned as she set down one of my belongings, her smile was persistent.

"When I say, I don't need help, I mean it." I said coldly, my eyes narrowing as a flicker of warning passed beneath my calm exterior. "I can handle it myself."

"Okayy, if you say so!" The werewolf exaggerated, just as how she always did.

"So! How was your vacay?" The girl standing six feet away asked with a hint of desperation in her voice.

"Long, boring, and entirely pointless. My kind of misery." I told her without looking at her.

"I suppose that's one way that you enjoy yourself." Enid sighed, then strode to her side of the dormitory and retrieved her rectangular device from the desk. Her phone.

I soon realized I still owned the phone Xavier had gifted me the previous semester. It had hardly been touched, but was constantly inundated with messages from my stalker. Part of me relished having one, yet I was insatiably curious about what they wanted. I had not told anyone about it. Yet.

"Hey, Wednesday?" Enid's voice cut through the quietness of the room as I settled my typewriter down on the wooden desk. I look up, my expression unchanged.

"I'm going to hang out with Ajax at his dorm for a while, then swing by Yoko's as well. I'll be back in a couple of hours." She added, practically vibrating with excitement. More solitude time for me. Delightful.

I didn't bother looking at her. "Your whereabouts are of no consequence to me." I stated, uninterested. Enid grinned nervously, then left the dorm. The sound of the door closing behind her brought a peace of solitude.

After I finished unpacking, I sat down at my desk in front of my typewriter. My writing time. My thoughts lingered, as my fingers started flying across the keys.

As I was about to finish a paragraph, a ping rang in my head. I glanced over at my phone sitting on the desk. It was a new message from "Unknown" my stalker. Unfortunately, curiosity pricked at me. I picked up the phone and opened the message.

What I saw was a picture of Enid's behind, taken in the hallways of Nevermore. Why was my stalker sending me photos of Enid? I don't give it much thought. This was my stalker, not Enid's. I set my phone aside and continued typing on my typewriter.

Enid's POV —

As I reached Ajax's dorm room in Caliban Hall, I tried opening the door to enter. Surprisingly, it was locked. Ajax never locks his doors. Weird. I knocked twice, hoping for a response.

After a short while, the door opened halfway, revealing Ajax who had a nervous expression on his face as he realized I was there.

"H-hey Enid!" He stammered, his words came out in quick and uneven bursts. He looked uncomfortable.

"Hey babe! Are you okay?" I asked with a hint of concern in my voice as I noticed his nervous expression.

"Y-yeah I'm fine. Sorry.. I wasn't expecting you to show up at my dorm." My boyfriend explained as he rubbed the back of his neck and avoiding my gaze before finally looking back at me. "Do you need something?" He added.

"I just wanted to stop by and hang out with you for a bit. It's been a long summer, and we haven't really seen each other that much. Is it okay if I come in?" I asked desperately. He hesitated for a moment before opening the door wider, allowing me to step inside. I leaned in and gave him a quick, gentle peck on the lips.

I spent a while with him, talking about our summers and sharing some other stuff. We exchanged a few quick, teasing kisses, his nervous smiles making me smile back.

After a while, I pulled away reluctantly and told him I was going to visit Yoko at her dorm as well. Then I left for Yoko's dorm, the warmth of our time together lingering as I walked down the hall.

I knocked on Yoko's door, and she opened it almost immediately, her face lighting up as she saw me.

"Enid! Come in!" The vampire exclaimed, stepping aside. I stepped forward, and we shared  a quick, warm hug before I skipped inside to her dorm.

We ended up watching a movie, sprawled on her bed with snacks scattered around us. She kept nudging me and making jokes about the characters, and I couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm. God, I had missed her so much!

We spent hours together in her dorm, talking, laughing, and sharing almost everything that had happened since we last saw each other. I didn't even notice how much time has passed. It was getting quite late. We say our goodbyes and shared another hug before I left to return to my dorm.

When I entered my dorm, I found my cold-hearted roommate typing away on her typewriter. How long has she been writing for? The clicking and dings of the typewriter filled the room.

"Heyy! What are you writing?" I asked, bouncing closer to her with curiosity, peaking over her shoulder as I examined her writing.

"My new Viper De La Muerte novel." The girl replied, without taking her eyes off the typewriter and continued typing.

"Ooo! You finished the other book?" I asked with curiosity, my eyes wide in excitement.

I wanted to ask to read her manuscript, but knowing Wednesday, she would most likely deny it. Besides, it was probably filled with murderous scenes, twisted plots, and gruesome details, and gore that would leave me squirming and traumatized for eternity.

How the hell is she able to continuously type without stopping and lose her train of thought? I'm impressed. But then again, that's Wednesday Addams.

"Yes, and I'd appreciate it if you backed away and stopped distracting me." Wednesday demanded, her eyes still fixed firmly on the typewriter in front of her. Is writing a novel that interesting to her?

Wednesday's POV —

I can feel the werewolf's excitement fade as she backed away from me and returned her side of the dormitory. Her bed creaked, and soon her sudden bursts of giggles and laughters filled the room. This was going to be a long night. I already surpassed my customary one hour writing time, so I gave up writing for the rest of the evening. Her mere presence was enough to distract me and strangle the last threads of focus from my mind.

I decided to read instead, letting the words on the page consume me while her giggles continued to echo through the room. I was constantly dodging my parents attempts to invade my life all summer. Now I'm stuck having to tolerate this insufferably colorful girl again, her presence alone was almost impossible to ignore.

After what felt like an eternity, she finally collapsed into a deep sleep, her phone clutched in hand after an endless abundance of senseless giggling that made my ears bleed. The sudden quiet settled over the room, suffocating the prior irritation.

Wednesday's POV –

The typing of my typewriter consumed the dorm  before a certain blonde suddenly barged into the room, who was radiating mindless excitement. My annoyance spiked.

"OMG, WEDNESDAY!" Enid exclaimed, darting next to me. I had no interest in listening, but I turned my head toward her anyway. She got the hint that I was listening and continued.

"Yoko and Divina want us to hangout with them! Wouldn't that be amazing?" Her smile was grotesque with pure excitement. I returned my attention back to my novel before I finally spoke.

"Who said I would even consider going?" I muttered, my fingers flying across the keys. She needed to accept the fact that I despised socializing and had no intentions in ever joining her and her friends.

"C'mon Wednesday! It'll be fun! Instead of being glued to your typewriter all day, you should learn how to socialize with others!" The wolf pleaded, twirling a strand of hair like she expected that to be persuasive. I stopped, stood up from my chair, arms crossed, and faced toward her.

"Fun is an overrated concept." I said coldly. "And fortunately, I am allergic to it."

"Didn't you quote that fun is basically torment for you? I thought you enjoyed that." She protested again, trying to get me to give in. "Besides, we have to enjoy the rest of the week before classes start again next week! Pleaseeee!" She starts giving me those insufferable puppy eyes. I am going to regret this for the rest of my existence.

"Fine." I sighed, my jaw tightening and eyes narrowing, clearly annoyed. Her excitement only deepened. "Just this once. And I'm only going because I owe you one for saving my life last semester." What the hell?

Her grin widened afterwards. "Yay!! I promise you won't regret it!"

"When are we leaving?" I asked, glaring into her.

"At 3 p.m! So I suggest that you start getting ready soon!" She doesn't say more and returns to her side of the room still brimming with excitement. I regret my decisions.

Enid announced that our first stop was the Weathervane where we were supposed to meet Yoko and Divina. The last time I had been there, I kissed Tyler. The memory was unpleasant, a disturbance I had no desire to remind myself. Ever. I wanted to forget it entirely.

Upon entering, we spotted Yoko and Divina through the glass, sitting in the back booth. Enid practically dragged me along the arm as she skipped toward them, her excitement was impossible to ignore.

"Enid! Wednesday!" Yoko greeted as she spotted us. "I'm surprised you actually convinced Wednesday to hangout with us!" Her eyes flickering to Enid before landing on me. Enid slid into the booth, bouncing with excitement, and I took the spot beside her.

"Totally!" Divina chimed in, grinning. "I didn't think she'd ever say yes!"

"I told you, I'd convince her! This is going to be so much fun! Enid nudged me lightly, her grin stretching even wider. "Now pay up!" She shoved her hands out expectantly on the table.

Yoko and Divina both sighed, both pulled out a twenty dollar bill, and handed it to her. I froze, my eyes narrowing and mouth parting in disbelief. They wagered on my presence? How utterly insulting.

"How flattering." I remarked flatly. "Reduced to the status of a parlor trick." They all giggled.

We then ordered our coffees and talked for a while. Mostly, I listened. And offered the occasional comment or reply when necessary, though my inputs were deliberate and far from enthusiastic.

After about half of an hour of talking, we finally left the Weathervane and made our way to another store in Jericho. Hawte Kewture. This dystopian hellscape again. I didn't offer a comment. I just glared at the store with in horror before we entered. The moment we stepped in, I was assaulted by colors that clashed violently with my sensibilities. I'm going to break out in hives.

Enid bounced ahead, vibrating with excitement, and I trailed behind like a reluctant shadow. Yoko and Divina were already sifting through racks of sequins and faux fur, chattering like imbeciles.

The wolf tugged at my sleeve. "C'mon, just look at this!" She held up a sparkly pink top. I slightly tilted my head examining the thing in disgust. It only blinded me.

"That is absurdly grotesque." I said monotonously, with my arms crossed. "Why would anyone willingly wear this?"

Yoko laughed. "It's fashion, Wednesday. You just don't get it."

"Correct." I uncrossed my arms. "I do not get it. And I never will or want to."

"She's got an attitude." Yoko whispered into Enid's ear and they both started chuckling. I didn't move or reply, simply fixed them with a glare sharp enough to make Yoko flinch when she met my eyes.

"I'm joking! No need to stare into my soul like that.." She said nervously, backing up slightly.

"Uh, so, Wednesday, are you gonna pick out anything?" Divina chipped in, her eyes flicking toward me.

"No." I muttered.

"Why not?" Enid asked, her voice a little louder than usual, tinged in confusion.

"What in this world makes you think I would ever wear something so preposterous?" My eyes flickering from the garish rack of clothes then back to her. "And I only agreed to come because I owe you one, and you wouldn't stop whining and giving me those insufferable puppy eyes." I continued, interlocking my arms again. " And I find that intolerable."

Yoko and Divina giggled at my words before turning to Enid. "You actually did that? I thought for sure she would decapitate you if you ever tried that on her." Yoko said, smirking.

Enid rolled her eyes and muttered. "That's not even funny.." But then a laugh escaped her mouth anyway, and soon she was giggling along with Yoko and Divina.

I pulled out a book from my bag and made my way to a maroon sofa I had spotted. I sank into it and opened the book, letting the words consume me.

The nonstop squealing and chatter among the three girls, made focusing on my book become nearly unattainable. Still, I constrained myself to finish the book, and somehow I did.

Even after I had read over 200 pages of my book, they were still wandering through racks, carts overflowing with clothes. I set my finished book back in my bag, letting out a muffled sigh, and sank into the maroon sofa. Though it was starting to appear dark outside, the store left like it doubled in brightness, every vibrant display glaring back at me. It was around 7 p.m, and we were the only ones left in the store, their chatters echoing in the otherwise empty aisles.

Finally, after hours of shopping, Enid approached me, a small grin on her face. "We're about to pay and head back to campus." She said, her voice carrying a hint of excitement.

I barely looked up from the sofa I was sitting on and muttered, "About time. I was beginning to think you three were planning to live in this mayhem for eternity, buying out the entire store." My tone was flat, though a faint trace of relief crept in. Enid giggled in response as I straightened slightly and rose to my feet.

The total came out to be $335.20. No idea who actually paid. Pure insanity. Seven bags of clothes between them, as if the store was going to collapse under the weight. I barely contained a grimace as I glanced at the mountain of purchases, silently wondering how they even planned to carry it all back.

We called an Uber back to Nevermore.

Unsurprisingly, it was now pitch dark outside, the streets glimmering with scattered light posts.

When the Uber finally arrived, Yoko and Divina claimed the front seats, while Enid and I settled next to each other in the back seats. The three imbeciles started chattering endlessly about their purchases, buzzing with energy after hours of  nonstop shopping. I remained quiet, letting their voices wash over me, only occasionally nodding or offering a noncommittal hum. Enid had begged me to her carry one of her bags, a request I still don't understand why I agreed to, and now my arm ached under its weight.

When we reached Nevermore, we said our goodbyes in Ophelia Hall, each of us heading toward our respective dorms. Divina had officially become Yoko's permanent roommate this semester, and the two of them chattered excitedly as they disappeared down the hallway.

When Enid and I approached our dorm and stepped inside, she quickly ran to her bed, dropped her bags next to her desk, and collapsed onto the mattress. She fell asleep almost immediately.

I dropped the bag I'd been carrying next to her other purchases. I tried to fight the urge to tell her to change before her slumber, but gave in anyway.

"Enid." I murmured beside her bed, but she didn't stir.

"Enid." I said a little louder this time. She shifted slightly, her eyes still closed.

"Go change." I instructed, as I retreated to my side of the room.

After a moment, she hesitated, then stood up, grabbed her pajamas from the bed, and disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

When she returned, she collapsed onto her bed under the blankets, and fell asleep immediately. Predictable.

I began my own preparations for bed. Pulling a black oversized hoodie over my head, I slipped into my usual black leggings and socks. I let my braids fall free, my hair settling into place as it always did. I brushed it with deliberate, precise strokes, letting each strand fall exactly where it should be. Then I began braiding it again. My teeth followed the same methodical attention.

Once I finished, I switched off the dorm lights, leaving only her fairy lights casting a soft glow on her side and the moonlight spilling through the circular window. I crawled under my own blankets, the room silent as my thoughts consumed me.

I glanced briefly at Enid, sleeping peacefully under her blankets, facing my side. For a moment, I allowed myself to acknowledge her presence, not with sentiment, but with the faint recognition that her chaos had, in some inexplicable way, become more tolerable to me.

Why was this?
