Valhalla Calling.
The song they would cover next was named Valhalla Calling.
It almost felt ironic.
A song about Valhalla, the Norse Afterlife, covered by them. Humans who had recently come close to death, and Blood Drinkers. Creatures that would rarely, if ever, meet an end.
It had almost made Geoff laugh, at first.

Layne gave Geoff his recently arranged part. It contained multiple B0’s. Layne smirked at the questioning side-eye he was given.
“You can go an octave lower, and I did tell you that I’d be using it.”
An answer came as a mildly annoyed sigh, and an affectionate glare. Layne just grinned wider.

After weeks of recording and editing, the only thing left to do was film the video.
Everyone had been dressed up in thick furs and leather, their makeup was done, and most of the filming had been done without much difficulty. They got to the end of J’s rap, and it was time for Cesar and Geoff to sing.
Cesar began the section, his voice floating above the others.
“Oh, whoa, oh, oh”
And in the few seconds it took for the notes to fade, Geoff thought.
He thought about his time, his Life, as Sik’thir. Leading and protecting his clan, Sil’ar, and their children. He wondered what they would say to him now, if they could. He hoped they would forgive him.
He thought about his exploring, his wandering, as a being with no name. Staying at the outskirts of towns and people when safe, running from civilization when not. He wondered how many stories about him had survived till today. He hoped they weren’t tales of fear.
He thought about jungles, a village, Nahuel. He thought about the time they’d spent together, and the time they could have spent. He wondered if his friend eventually found a home as Cesar. He hoped he could help provide it.
He thought about now. He thought about William. He thought about how Kathy and Layne were like him, and how they didn’t mind. He thought about how Eli and Cesar and J still felt comfortable around them. He thought about Ir’sia. How everyone had so quickly come to his aid.
Millennia of existence flowed through his mind, and as he opened his mouth to sing, he realised that, for the first time in centuries, he had a place to belong.
“The echoes of eternity”
And did that revelation make everything seem different? Did it make the future seem that tiny bit brighter? If the idea of surviving for ‘the echoes of eternity’ suddenly seemed a little less daunting?
“Oh, whoa, oh, oh”
Perhaps it did, perhaps it didn’t.
“Valhalla Calling me”
Either way, he would sing.
