Chapter Text
Peter Parker was 13 years old. 13 when he woke up with a fever of 103. 13 when he suddenly had powers. 13 when he lost his Uncle Ben. 13 when he suddenly had the pressure of the Empire City on his shoulders.
He was stressed and was tired between school, exploring his new powers and trying to make Aunt May proud. He would stay out late teaching himself to fight, helping around the city in whatever small ways he can. Whether that be stopping small burglary’s or catching pickpockets. He was almost through middle school barely making it threw, off sleep deprivation with his mind and body still adjusting to his newly enhanced senses, but he passed and was now starting high school. So when he climbed through his window at 3 in the morning, face planting into his bed. Beginning to drift off he felt a shift in his surroundings but he brushed it off and just assumed it was his brain trying to get through the lack of sleep and the new requirements for existing; besides his spider sense stayed dormant there was no tingle and not a single prick or hair on end so he just fell asleep.
When Peter woke he felt it, the change in the air, the change in his surroundings and the change in his reality. He had yet to open his eyes but he could feel it in the air, the electricity was different and the temperature of the air and the noises around him. He lived in a two bedroom house in queens and there were always cars driving by but the honking he heard and cars he could normally feel vibrating the ground felt and sounded far. He lifted his head to see a window up was clear he was high up in an apartment building. He could tell he was safe but he had no clue as to where he was, then he heard it.
“Peter are you up? You have to get to school!” It was a woman, a young one. She had to be in her early to mid 30s. He heard footsteps as if she was walking towards the door. There was a knock before the door began to creek open “Hey you’re up, why didn’t you answer you made me worried.” Her face contorted into a slightly confused expression.
“Who are you?” Peter spouted before he even registered how bad that may make his situation. The woman’s face changed from slightly confused to a mask of concern.
“Are you ok kid its me Aunt May, are you feeling sick, do you have a temperature?” She moved to place the back of her hand on his forehead. His faced flashed with shock and realization.
“No, no no I’m fine I just woke up so not everything registered yet, ya know” He said waving his hands trying to sound as convincing as possible.
“Ok if you say so but you should get ready for school or you’ll miss your train again” May said before walking out of the room and closing the door behind her. Once she was out of view Peter’s mind began to spiral.
That can’t be Aunt May at least not HIS Aunt May hell his aunt was old and retired and she hadn’t been that talkative or joyful in months not since his Uncle, well lets not think about that. Obviously he’s stuck here so he might as well start getting ready for school and try to act like this was his everyday life.
He rose out of bed realizing he wasn’t wearing anything but boxers which made him feel embarrassed his aunt saw him like that. He quickly grabbed a pair of baggy jeans off the floor slipping them on before grabbing a faded Nirvana T off the floor sniffing it to assure it was clean enough to wear for what he hoped wouldn’t be a second day in a row. He grabbed a pair of socks that hung out of a drawer on what he assumed was a dresser but from the state of the rooms floor was most likely empty. He reached for the carabiner that sat on the top of the bureau, it had a 8 ball and transparent dice hanging from it along with a key and what looked like earplugs but when he put them in they had a voice that talked to him so he put it back in and clipped it to his belt loop to make sure it was safe.
“You have 10 minutes before you have to leave Peter.” He heard Aunt May call from somewhere on the other side of the apartment.
“Shit” He cursed under his breath before quickly slipping on a pair of converse not bothering to tie them and grabbing his bag which laid under the window. He slung it on his shoulder which began to ache as if the pressure was too much. He opened his door and walked out into the small two bedroom apartment of which seemed to be his new home but he couldn’t help the nagging feeling that he was missing something even though he couldn’t begin to figure out what with all these new feelings and sights around him.
“You have everything right?” Aunt May questioned the minute they made eye contact upon Peter’s departure out of his room.
“Yeah I believe so” Peter responded rubbing the back of his neck, his tone was shaky and clearly unsure which gave May all the info she needed.
“You have your key and your earbuds?”
“Yes” Peter answered even though he wasn’t sure what was in the case were considered earbuds at least they weren’t like any he had ever seen but the key they weren’t connected to gave him enough information to give a confident answer.
“Your phone?” May said raising a brow, she knew the teen almost always left his room with it in his hand playing some video of sorts.
“Noooo-” He said his voice rising in pitch. “Isn’t it in the kitchen on the charger?” He tilted his head in confusion he didn’t really like his phone plus it didn’t do much and was only for emergencies considering the outrageous amount they charged for minutes now.
“No it was laying on your bed; are you sure you’re feeling ok today Pete you’re worrying me” She took a step toward the teen whom took an instinctive step backward.
“Yes I’m fine just tired not fully up yet, I’ll go get it be right back ok” Peter rushed out reaching out for the door next to him.
“Ok but you can’t use that excuse forever kid, let me grab you something for the road” She said walking away.
“Thank you May” Peter called behind him while he rummaged through the sheets before finding a thin black rectangle connected to a white cord which he promptly disconnected before pressing the button on the side for the front to light up with the time and a picture of whom he assumed were his friends on some kind of trip.
The group was all lined up in two rows some crouched and others standing, they were smiling throwing up different hand signs. They stood in front of a building in matching uniforms. He recognized almost nobody except for the bigger kid who he stood next to him as a kid from his normal life, he was in his English class. Peter believed he said his name was Ted or Ned he couldn’t remember besides he wasn’t his friend and he was to focused on everything else around him to worry about that. What did confuse him even more though was the absence of Harry his best friend since elementary school, sure he was rich and a brat at times but they were so close there was no way they would be split into different schools or clubs, unless they didn’t know each other, and if they didn’t know each other then that meant he may never see the only face he knew again. Peter darted his eyes to the time and realized he’d lost his train of thought a thing he hoped wasn’t a common occurrence for this body and mind but who knows.
He rushes out of his room once more. “Found it!” He announced to the apartment cheerfully, he made his way towards where May stood in the kitchen. “I should get going don't wanna be late right?”
“Yes you’re right though when are you not, here eat this on your way and have a great day sweetie alright make good decisions, now I have to get ready for work I’ll try to be home early but who knows right love you.” May says with a sincere smile while handing him a banana before heading to what Peter assumed was the other bedroom.
“I’ll try, no promises.” Peter said automatically without thinking about it, he assumed it was fine based of the interactions with this May it seemed like they had this kind of relationship. It seemed fine considering directly after saying it he heard a faint snicker from the May in front of him anyway.
He reached for the door making his way out into a small and semi smelly hallway, he walked towards the stair case at the end and made his way down before walking out into a bright and busy New York City. Speaking of loud everything was loud, really loud, so loud that his hands flew up to his ears and he felt overwhelmed. He instinctively reached for the black oval that hung from his belt loop before slipping the little earpiece into his ear and instantly feeling better at the dampening they provided. In an instant he heard the voice again as it spoke to him.
“Bluetooth connected” The voice explained, he assumed it had something to do with his phone so he pulled it out of the pocket where he had left it to rest. He opened the screen again before sliding a finger over it and an unlock screen popping up before popping open to a Home Screen filled with applications, a message flashed across the top that read ‘face recognized’ he clicked around before clicking on a black and green square and a screen of what looked like music playlists popped up he clicked on a rectangle that read ‘the journey to hell’ to him that sounded like something he’d name a cassette or a CD so when the hum of music came through the earbuds he was happy, he was correct. He then began walking towards where he saw was marked as a regular stop on his phone when he was fumbling to find his music.
He eventually arrived at the station to find he was the only kid to be taking the train this early or late he wasn’t a hundred percent sure which described this situation. He knew he needed to head to Midtown Tech due to the student ID that sat on his dresser this morning which he had stored in his left pocket incase he needed it later in the day.
The train pulled up in front of him and he stepped on and quickly made his way to a seat and shut down as he felt the familiar pull of his body due to the force of the train as it began to move. While he waited he had studied the mad and stop order as if it were the Rosetta Stone. He knew exactly how many stops he’d have before he needed to get off and book it to school. He wasn’t sure what classes he had so he looked in his bag the minute he sat down and found a crumpled piece of paper in the bottom that said 2018-19 schedule across the top which according to his phone it was October 2nd, 2018 so this was the correct schedule and it also meant that this universe was over ten years in the future or he was born later here at least, that was weird to him he felt the same but older at the same time he didn’t know how to place it. It being so early into the school year helped him, they would only be in their first quarter so he wouldn’t have to calculate all the days and months to figure out what classes he should be heading to. Apparently he’s either really smart, really stupid or this is an average schedule for this school but his first class of the day was AP Trig and then after that he would go to Honors Lit before heading to AP Chem, this wasn’t even the half of it but he wouldn’t worry about the other classes later, just looking at this was giving him a headache. He hoped the brain he was borrowing could keep up because he knew his regular one wouldn’t be.
Then he thought about his regular life and realized there was a big part of his life he hadn’t even thought about yet which was his alter ego, Spider-Man, he could tell he had the same reflexes and it he saw the web shooters hidden in his side table when he went looking for his phone earlier that morning he had shoved them in his bag in a rush just in case but he wouldn’t have a suit so he didn’t know what the hell he expected his ass to do.
He pulled out his banana from his pocket before peeling it open. He took a bite from it as the train pulled up to its second stop since picking him up, 2 more to go he cataloged in his head as he continued to stair out into space. He had momentarily shoved his bag down to sit between his feet on the floor. He reached for his phone in his pocket due to the awkward feeling he got about the people around him thinking he’s a creep for staring.
He used this time to get himself familiar with the different apps on his phone. By the time his stop came he was at least comfortable enough with it that he wouldn’t look weird if he pulled it out in public again. He stood as the train came to a stop stepping up to the door closest to him as it slid open and allowed him to step out. Once he made his way out of the station he saw a group of kids walking toward what seemed to be a school building.
He followed, eventually making his way to a crosswalk. He stood there watching to make sure no cars were coming, once it was clear he crossed once on the other side he stopped to take a breath. He didn’t know how the other him did it; it seemed so stressful here and tiering. As peter became more and more enveloped in his thoughts he didn’t realize how close he was to the road before he felt a cold splash flood through his hair and down his neck and back causing him to tense and turn.
“Morning Penis Parker!!” Yelled the boy who drove by deliberately splashing him. He assumed that was this worlds Flash, he heard others around him laughing through the dull cent sounds of some girl singing.
He dropped his head letting out a sigh as he made his way into the school. This day is going to be shit, he thought.
