Chapter Text
The teachers lectured on and on about who knows what. Every student was in another world, Mason finally leaned over to Edgar with a shy smile. Edgar glances over at him lowering the music blasting in his ear. “Bro, not now…” Edgar saids rolling his eyes and looking back at the teacher. Mason giggles and leaned closer “come onnnnnnn…” Mason saids trying to get his attention. Edgar’s stomach flips on itself at his whine but he acts like nothing happened. “I’mnot doing his today, type shit” Edgar saids trying to avoid eyes contact. Mason frowns and sighs “67!” He shouts into the still class air and all the students laugh because it’s so funny, sooooo funny. Mason looks back at Edgar to see his reaction but Edgar looks away first trying to hide his blush. Mason frowns again wanting Edgar’s attention…he isn’t sure why. Since his absolutely hilarious joke hadn’t landed with Edgar…or so he thought…he decided to just wait until the bell.
For what seems like an alternate Mason waits subtly glancing over at Edgar every so often to see if he can catch his eye. But Mason never seemed to be the center of Edgar’s focus… it was like someone ripped out Masons 67 shaped heart every time. He longed for just a smile…eye contact…anything from Edgar to show he was paying attention to Mason. But it seemed like Edgar didn’t care about anything.
The bell rang and Mason gets up excitedly making sure to make a bunch of vague sounds as he skins through the hallways slapping the top of every doorframe. Everyone laughed and clapped because it was the funniest thing to see every time they tried to get to class. Mason sat down at his usual lunch table with his baseball teammates, while Edgar sat at the end of the table with his headphones on. Edgar liked to people watch, he didn’t think anyone cared when he talked to why do it? He thought about Mason, he was always trying to get them in trouble and he didn’t understand why? Suddenly Edgar feels a warm hand on his thigh…” oh god…” he think afraid to look down. He feels his face heat up as Mason rubs higher and higher up Edgars thigh. Edgar could hear the other people at the table laughing, he forced out a laugh too and took off his headphones. “Haha so funny Mason!” He saids trying to sounds…nonchalant… Mason beams with joy at his approval and slides his fingers higher and higher wanting a reaction from…just His teammates…yeah yeah just them. Mason feels Edgar brush his hand off without anymore than a “no homo through” He heard Edgar say with a shrug before turning his music back on. Masons feels that awful squeeze in his heart again but he tries to laugh it off “yeah bro…no homo..” he saids but his words have lost all humor. Why no homo…why why why…but most importantly why did it make Mason so hurt…? Why
