Work Text:
It crawled through the murky ocean waters like a dying animal, yet at the same time never being able to die - chunks falling off its arms and regenerating quickly, no legs to help ease its near-mindless journey, only being able to propel itself by damaging the life around it - but it paid no mind to that either. One goal reigned supreme in its void of a mind, one simple goal - to find its missing piece, the one who was given the key to what would’ve been a comfortable life…and the one who lost it all shortly after.
The skies above did not bear the familiar hues of blue that it remembered, nor did it support any type of cloud - but instead it rendered itself as a sickly, dark gray. Strings of an unknown liquid hung from the clouded “dome”, swaying gently in the wind as the more thicker ones stayed completely still, reflecting the beings horribly mutated appearance in their glossy surface. But it had not much of a mind to reflect on that, not much care to be tossed around, nothing like that. So, it decided to tear off a sizable chunk to help make transport easy - gnarled fangs ripping through one of the bigger loops like a predator chomping down on fresh meat. The taste was akin to heavy lead, making the being rear back as it gurgled and spit - the cost of trying to make things easier making itself very known.
But no matter, nothing to matter at all! It sank in the same gnarled claws, reshaping the chunk as if it was wet clay, and the being was a skilled potter - rendering its unnatural self into that of…something, to anyone else it resembled nothing at all, a weapon? A paddle? A oar? A doohickey of a long-gone era? Nobody would care at this point, and neither did it. The item did its job well, helping the being gain good distance with how much of a speedboost it was - the chunks of the carnage were left behind, floating on the freezing cold waters. Its mind restarted afterwards back to its main goal, though it still used the item (a singular thought thinking of using it like a toy after its goal was fulfilled, a toy? Maybe? Something akin to slime and putty? Hahah! Oh! How silly that would look to any object! Hahah!).
It giggled absentmindedly, its voice low and rough and making nearby life pause for just a moment - sounding much like an earthquake's rumble and the birth of an oncoming omen.
Huffing, though, It pushed on, trying to not let such feeble things distract it. A shattered deity left to rot in a makeshift grave, to it, that was disgraceful! Obscene! It was made to be a forever home! One for objects to rest forever in! And it was tossed away like mere rubbish! Like utter trash! Ah, what did it EVER DO to deserve such a fate?! Was it because of how it was cruelly ripped away by a mere sheet of paper?!
In its anger and rage, the being ripped out a chunk of seaweed, pausing a bit before thinking, before placing the chunk into its waiting maw like a curious animal. Tasted salty, too salty for the beings taste (somewhat ironic) as it spat the chewed up parts out, leaving those to float in the waters much like the string chunks. Though possibly sorrowed by the destruction it had caused, it pushed it aside - moving forward as it spotted another Island in the far distance, sporting a mirrored appearance much like it, but it didn’t sport the heart, it didn’t sport the life and joy this being had - it laughed again, and this time it was louder.
Ah, this world thinks it can just replace it?! Toss it away again?! No matter! It can simply take the place of this other one! And the best part, oh, the best part was the fact that it can feel two peculiar heartbeats emitting close to it, and one of them stuck out like a sore thumb. The being snorted a quiet, rumbly found you as it drove its makeshift tool deep into the soil, hoisting itself up as it slammed down like a turtle, clawing a path of destruction towards the heartbeat it had been chasing after for so long.
And this time.
And this time..
And this time?
It wouldn’t be shoved away again! Wouldn’t be smashed to small itty bitty pieces and thrown out like nothing! Ah, any object would yearn for a place of wonderful comfort at this time! ANYTHING WOULD! It’s mouth twisted into a gnarled grin, ripping apart chunks of land, hunting, hunting carelessly and without any stealth in mind as voices grew closer and closer….

"See anything related to her yet?”
“Ah! Nooo! She doesn’t seem to be anywhere! I hope we can at least find a body..”
Firey whined, getting back onto the small boat he had made with 8-ball. It had been…what? An unknown amount of time ever since Leafy was lost in the storm?? He couldn’t tell! Neither of them could tell! The sky went utterly alien mode on them and neither of them had watches to speak of! He rubbed his face in frustration, the shadow of the pool ball rolling over to check on him appearing.
“Ah, well…I’m sure we’ll find her soon!”
He paused, looking around a bit as if he had sensed something the ember hadn’t.
“Do…”
“Did you feel that? Or..hear that for that matter?”
“Feel wha-”
A heavy THUNK shot through the otherwise silent island, making birds take off in a heed of warning - and whatever that was made 8-ball freeze as he stared upwards, at something Firey had not seen yet - at something with utter terror in his beady white eyes. Firey sat up, looking at his friend with concern, “8? 8? What’s up man-?” a heavy, dense liquid of something plopped right onto the boat, as if it was drool from a creature.
Firey looked up.
Firey looked up and locked up too.
Eyes on an object he thought was sunk and dead years ago stared right back at him, bearing the gnarly face of a creature with a rabid mouth beared into a horrible grin.
He paused.
And let out a blood-curdling scream.
