Work Text:
nami hates roller coasters. in fact, she hates anything that moves too fast and too high. so why then does she find herself in a queue to ride not just any roller coaster, but the roller coaster; the scariest one the grand line has to offer?
the answer is simple: she finds the ride attendant hot.
how can she not? even in that buttoned-up uniform, nami’s eyes can trace the muscles bulging. it’s enough to risk her life on god valley. usopp shivers right beside her.
“remind me again why we’re doing this?” her friend asks, eyes trailing the fast ride and giving another shiver. “we both hate roller coasters.”
nami doesn’t answer him. instead, she stands on tiptoes, trying to get a glimpse of the green-haired attendant. usopp follows her line of sight before rounding on her.
“no way. you’re sending us to our deaths because of one guy?!” he exclaims, earning them a couple of looks from other people in the queue. nami quickly clamps his mouth with a hand and gives the strangers apologetic smiles before glaring at her friend.
“will you keep your voice down?” she hisses. usopp glares at her as she lets him go.
“are you really making us ride god valley just because of the ride attendant?” usopp asks, this time in a softer, albeit more panicky, voice. nami just gives him that grin she sometimes gives him when she’s thought of money-making schemes. usopp glares at her again.
“so why do you have to drag me with you?”
“because we’re friends and you don’t want me to go through that,” she waves her arm towards the roller coaster, “alone. don’t you?”
usopp grumbles something about pushing nami from the highest peak of the ride. nami just grins at him. he looks at the attendant again.
“he isn’t even that hot,” he grumbles. nami decides to ignore him.
slowly, the queue lessens until there are only four people in front of them. nami can’t decide whether the butterflies in her stomach right now are due to the roller coaster or the ride attendant. from where she’s standing, she can read his name on the name tag: zoro. she tries tasting the name on her lips.
it’s rather delicious.
usopp continues to grumble right next to her, hugging himself as they walk slowly to the front of the queue.
when they finally reach the front, nami can’t deny that her legs have started to shake almost as badly as usopp’s. the ride attendant, zoro, notices this and gives them a raised brow.
“you guys sure you wanna do this?” he asks, eyes moving from usopp’s shivering form to nami’s trembling lips.
“y-yeah! o-of course! w-why would y-you ask?” she mentally kicks herself for stuttering in front of zoro. the attendant only looks at her with a deadpan expression.
“because you look like you’re about to pass out and you haven’t even ridden yet.”
usopp opens his mouth to back out but nami steps on his foot, hard, and he falls silent. she stands up straight, clears her throat, and remembers that she’s nami. she flicks her long tangerine hair to her back while cocking a hip.
“oh don’t worry about us. we’ll be fine.” her brown eyes looked zoro up and down before she gives him her most seductive smile. “besides, i can think of someone more dangerous i’d like to ride.”
usopp makes a choking sound beside her as he climbs onto the car. nami climbs on after him. just as zoro leans down to help fasten them, he whispers in the woman’s ear.
“survive this and then maybe we can schedule you in for a more dangerous ride.”
nami catches his silver stare just as he leans away, smirking.
oh, she thinks, her heart aflutter and something else between her thighs positively alight. she's definitely surviving now.
