Summary:

Another verse on my forever hero

Work Text:

I wanna believe in the land where I was born
But war has come and my world cannot mourn
The land cries out from the blood that's spilled
The Wold destroyed. Mass graves freshly infilled
Theodred, he died in a desolate place
Surrounded by his foes with no friendly face
Like a brother to me with his twinkling smile
Kindness hiding behind his swarthy style

The terrible cry comes from on high
Above the clouds in the moonless sky
A scream sending terror and twisted dread.
A rejoinder that some things rejoice in death.
I await in the dark for the coming dawn
For what fresh tragedy comes with the light of the morn
I live to feed and help the refugees
Yet no one is coming to rescue me

There's one who dogs my shadow and my path
Makes my skin crawl at my toilet and my bath
A cruel pale face all cowled in black
Lurking and sly, lusting behind my back.
Why can't I die, peaceful in my home place
Between the grass and the sky, with the sun on my face.
Not locked in the house with the walls on fire.
The last men dead, and the women for the pyre.

My thoughts of these horrors
Shall never see the page
My courage may fail
Yet I have new found rage.
So I will travel with the Eoreth along the darkened road
To face my fate. To face that foe.
I will not hide trembling, and wait for death.
I'll fight, fight and scream, til my last breath.
