Chapter 1: 00 || Prologue

Chapter Text

"Alrighty guys! Keep going! I think we've almost found the treasure! The Bakugo Exploration team is reaching it's destination!" Bakugo exclaimed as he held out an extended finger, leaving the rest of us to follow in suit, like ducklings following it's mother.

He was the most fearless and impulsive kid on the block; His charisma was intoxicating, nobody could help but follow him. Including myself....

Being one of the newer kids in town always came with its strengths and difficulties. One of those strengths was that everyone wanted to be my friend. While Katsuki was a bit resistant to letting me join their friend group, he was very instant on maintaining the groups 'No Girl' Policy.  Luckily, a boy named Izuku Midoriya was able to persuade the group to bend the rules.

Ever since then, I've been hanging out with them consistently.

"Hey (Y/N)! Come look down here for treasure with me!" Bakugo ordered. While he was never the nicest to most kids in the neighborhood, he did seem to like me a lot more than the other kids. Maybe it was because I was the only girl, or because I was always there...even when the others weren't...

We strolled down a steep hill, making our way to the bank of the creek we were treasure hunting in. The water cold and foreign against my skin, sending a shiver down my spine and sparking goosebumps on my legs.  I hummed as I searched the water like Bakugo told us, he was right next to me, shifting the water side to side; Stirring up dirt and debris in the water, causing it to become cloudy.

"Tch, I can't find any treasure!" Bakugo grunted, slamming his fists into the water, sending droplets flying.

"Here, I can share with you Kacchan..." Said Izuku holding out a few glittery stones for Bakugo.

"Wow! Those are so pretty!" I gushed

"Those are just dumb rocks..." Bakugo said as he stood up and walked away. "I'm going to find something way cooler than those!!"

Izuku looked down at the rocks Bakugo had rejected. I stood up and gave him a sad smile. "It's okay," I said trying to comfort him. "I think the rocks are super pretty!" I grined.

This seemed to cheer him up immediately. And for a moment he hesitated, his words caught in his throat as he contemplated what my response would be to what he was about to say. The he asked: "do you want the rock?"

I smiled and grabbed a rock out of the make-shift pocket I made by folding my shirt in. "Let's trade!" I said placing the small stone into the palm of his hand. He examined the rock and smiled, stuffing it into his pocket. "Thank's (Y/N)! I'll keep it safe forever!"

Bakugo watched the scene from the corner of his eye. Gnawing his teeth in irritation, he stood up and sloshed through the water over to us.

"Do you want one too Kat?" I asked, holding out my hand with some more glittery rocks.

"Tch, fine! But only because we need to collect treasure!" He said snatching the rock from my palm. "Here, My rock is better than his...So take it!" He said putting some kind of crystal in my hand.

I examine it, holding it up to the sky "Wow, this is beautiful..." I said as they rays casted through it's pearlesent body,  sending a cascade of rainbow light onto my skin.

Bakugo Puffed proudly at my praise "I know, way better than his, right?"

I looked at the rock and the crystal in my hand, "I think they're both beautiful..." I said smiling at both of them.

"Whatever...when my quirk maifests, It's going to be way better than his!" he said looking over at Izuku.

"I can't wait for my quirk to manifest, I bet it's going to be super cool! B-but not as cool as yours Kacchan..." Izuku said quietly.

After we collected a bunch of treasure, we put it in a big pile we all swore to protect. We marched in a circle around it, guarding the pile of stones.

"Wait! I think I hear someone coming! On guard everybody!" Bakugo exclaimed, "Are you all ready?!"

"Yeah!" The other kids cheered.

"Y-yeah! W-were ready...I mean we have you on our side Kacchan, and you too...R-right (Y/N)?"

I respond with a vigorous nod and widen my stance, holding up a stick i picked up as though it were a sword.  "If any one messes with us or our treasure we'll make them pay!"

"That's right!" Katsuki beamed. "Don't do anything too crazy though, you're not as strong as I am, so if I have to i'll protect you."

I can help but blush a bit at his words. "Okay, Thank you Kat..."

Mere moments later one of our friends jumps out of a bush, holding a stick and swinging it. "Argh! I've come for your booty!" He bellowed.

We all prepared for battle. We knew this was going to be a tough one, surviving the attack would take everything from us. but we were reluctant to giving up!

Katsuki thrusted with his sword, attacking the enemy. "You'll never lay a finger on our treasure! Attack!" And at Katsuki's comand, everyone charged at the boy.

The boy smirked and snapped his fingers. Just at the single action, his comrades emerged from the bushes. "Heh, we'll see about that..."

The fight is gruesome, a lot of my comrades have fallen to the hand of that boy and his hench men. Katsuki steps up and points his sword at him "Stay back! Or else I'll have to make you walk the plank!"

"(Y/N)? Do you think Kacchan can handle him? Maybe we should help?" Izuku asked

I nod "You're right! we should help." I said looking around to one of our other friends- "Hey you! Protect the treasure! We're going to help fight!" I said grabbing Izuku's hand and dragging him to the fight. Izuku nervously parried his 'sword' against one of the rebel pirates as I swished mine against another.

Suddenly, the kid I was fighting took it a little too far; He hit me hard with the stick in my shin, sending me backwards. I fell onto the dirt, a patch of dust rising from the impact. His stick was sharp, and it drew blood from my leg. At the sight of the blood I panicked- My breaths began to sharpen an my eyes blurred with tears. But what I didn't know was that this small action is what ultimately would decide my fate for the foreseeable future.

My quirk manifested...

A large amount of water from the creek behind us began to rise up, casting a shadow over us, it's murky body blocking the sun's rays.

Katsuki and Izuku ran next to me as I blinked back my tears "(Y/N) are you okay?" one of them said, though their voices were muffled. They looked up and saw the water. Slowly, the world around me began spinning...

and then it was black.

When I awoke, I saw Izuku, Katsuki, and Katsuki's mother hovering over me. I moaned and rubbed my eyes, the blur from being unconscious slipping away as I did so.

"There! All patched up!" Katsuki's mother said as she stepped back. My wound was patched by a cute animal bandage, keeping pathogens and bacteria from infecting it.

"(Y/N)!" Izuku said as I stirred. When I sat up I saw a pouting Katsuki and a worried Izuku.

"What happened?" I asked looking at them, then at my leg.

"You fell unconscious after a big wave of water splashed everyone..." Izuku explained. "It was-"

"Everyone ran away after they saw the water." Katsuki interrupted, his tone laced with annoyance. "Say, what quirk do your parents have?"

"Well, My mom can sing...her voice lets her do stuff...I can't remember, my dad told me awhile ago..." I said looking up, pondering over my response. "And my dad's quirk is Water manipulation: he can manipulate water. He makes really cool shapes and stuff outta them." I explained."

"Well, It seems like someone's quirk manifested!" Katsuki's mom exclaimed. "Just like you're father huh? Good for you!"

"Hmph....Mine's gonna be way cooler..." Pouted Katsuki. "But I guess yours is pretty cool too..." He murmured.

"Wow (Y/N)!! Your quirk manifested! That's so cool!" Izuku said. "Can you do it again?! I wanna see!" he said running over to get a glass of water.

I nodded and raised my hand. I could feel all of my muscles tensing as I tried my best to manipulate the water. A glob of water began stretching from the surface of the water, pulling itself away and into the air.

"Wow..." Izuku gushed. Even Katsuki couldn't help but stare as I contorted the water to my will.

"Oh my gosh! My quirk!" I said a bit too happily. I lost my concentration and the water fell back into the glass, shattering it. "What the-" When I looked at the cup again a large piece of ice was laying in the center of the shattered glass cup.

"Oh dear! let me get something to clean this up! don't move or you might cut yourself children!" Katsuki's mom said leaving us to get cleaning supplies.

"What the heck was that?!" Katsuki said as he examined the now broken cup.

"I-i don't know!" I said honestly. "My dad could never do anything like that!"

"(Y/N) I think you just froze the water!" Izuku said, fascinated by the way my quirk was working.

Katsuki's mother returned, cleaning up the mess I made.

"Sorry about all this..." I said shamefully

"Oh it's fine, don't worry! Katsuki makes even bigger messes, especially his room! It is a pig sty in there- "

"MOM!" Katsuki exclaimed.

"Alright, alright...I'll let it go..." she said chuckling a bit.

The sun began setting over the horizon. There I was, sitting on Katsuki's door step, humming waiting for my dad to get off work and pick me up. I watched the sky as the fluorescent colors bled together in harmony, creating an ombre of ambers and pinks. The door opened and shut from behind me. Reacting to the noise, I whipped my head around. It was Izuku and Katsuki.

"Is your dad still working?" Katsuki asked "tch...what's taking him so long?"

"My dad is a hero..." I said "he's always out late..."

"you're welcome to walk home with me (Y/N)...I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind." Izuku offered.

Suddenly Katsuki's mother came out, sunk to her knees and embraced me as if I had told her the most heart wrenching story of my life.

"I'm so sorry (Y/N)...." she said, her voice muffled as she spoke into my shoulder.

I sat there dumbfounded. 'What was there to be sorry for?'

""Y-you're father...." She choked out. "He's dead..." she finished.

The realization wasn't there. I was stunned. Maybe because I was so incompetent, I mean...I was only five, what five year old understands death?

Katsuki's mother continued to sob into my shoulder as I stood there. I looked to Izuku and Katsuki.

'What the hell just happened? One second I'm manifesting my quirk, getting ready to tell my dad all about it....and the next...He's dead.'

Later that night I'm sent home to pack a few necessities. Luckily for me, I have an Uncle on my mothers side willing to take me in on such short notice.

"What's up kiddo?" My uncle says as he comes into the police station.

"Uncle Hirito!" I exclaimed jumping out of my seat and rushing over. My eyes were puffy from crying, and here I was...Crying into the belly of a relative i hadn't seen in a few months.

After My uncle did the paper work, we went back to my home which was now hollow and empty. Vacant of the joy and laughter I shared with my father not even a day ago. Taking in the stillness of the home, my eyes began to water again. I rushed to my room; Refusing to leave for the remainder of the night.

Bakugou's POV:

I opened the door and walked out to the door step, Deku trailing behind me like the loser follower he is. I looked to the setting sun, the colors blending together, illuminating where (Y/N) sat, waiting for her dad like she always did.  The sound of her voice infiltrated my eardrums, the reverberations and noise hypnotic.

'What the...?'  I shook my head.  'The heck is going on?'

"Is your dad still working? I asked "tch what's taking him so long?"

"My dad is a hero..." she said "he's always out late..."

Her voice was like honey, her hazel colored eyes boring into my crimson orbs. I gulped as my heart sped up.

"you're welcome to walk home with me (Y/N)...I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind." Izuku offered.

'Tch, damn nerd! I'm the one who should be with (Y/N) all the time! She's My friend!'
I paused.

'What the? What- Why am I acting like this? Stop it!' I mentally cursed myself.

That's when my mother came out, she looked like her heart had shattered into a million pieces.

"(Y/N)...Your father.... he's dead..."

As soon as I heard that my head snapped to (Y/N). She couldn't even process her feelings; But I could tell this was bad.

'I will never let my (Y/N) get hurt....'
