Chapter Text
The wind rustled the leaves. Luke pulled his jacket tighter around him. As he walked, he overheard laughter from a group of classmates up ahead. They were huddled around something. Luke walked faster, hoping to be part of the conversation for once.
"Hey, Luke! Over here!" Jake called out, one of Luke's best friends, waving him over. Luke managed a half-smile and joined the group.
"What's up?" he asked looking at them
"Guess what? We found something sick," Evelyn, an energetic girl with a love for adventure, exclaimed. Curiosity flickered in Luke's tired eyes.
"What is it?"
"Haven't you heard about the old West mansion on the edge of town?" asked Mason, a tall guy with a small smirk.
Luke furrowed his brow
"Yeah, the creepy looking one? What about it?"
"We're going there tonight," Jake declared. Luke hesitated. The haunted mansion was famous in SpringVill for its dark history. a place people only spoke about in hushed whispers.
"Are you serious? Why would we go there? It's like asking for something to happen"
Evelyn leaned in, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"People say it's haunted, but it's also said to have a ton of cash in a safe. So we all thought it would be fun. And you know we could get rich"
"Come on, Luke, it'll be fun!" Jake chimed in, patting him on the back. Reluctantly, Luke agreed. Anything to get them to stop bugging him. Little did he know that agreeing to this little adventure would lead to a nightmare. That he could never have anticipated. As the group approached the West mansion, the air grew thick with tension. The once grand Mansion that had beautiful details now loomed in the darkness, its broken windows and crumbling walls. Light struggled to go through the twisted branches that surrounded the eerie mansion.
"Are you sure about this?" Luke asked, his unease noticeable.
"Relax, Luke, it's just a creepy old mansion," Jake reassured him, though uncertainty lingered in his own eyes. The group entered cautiously, the creaking of the floorboards echoing through the empty halls. Dust particles danced in the weak light that shined through the shattered windows. As they explored room after room, the air became colder, and a sense of anxiety settled in. Luke couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. Unsettling shadows danced on the walls, playing tricks on his worried mind.
"Hey, guys, check this out!" Evelyn called from a room on the second floor. The group gathered around a dusty old mirror that hung on the wall. In its reflective surface, distorted and dimly lit, they saw the ghosts of their faces. Suddenly, the mirror trembled and fell to the floor, glass shattering everywhere. A chilling whisper filled the air.
"leave."
The friends exchanged nervous glances.
"Did you hear that?" Mason asked, his bravery wavering.
"Probably just the wind," Jake scoffed, attempting to hide his unease. As they continued their exploration, the atmosphere grew increasingly harsh. The once-faint whispers turned into tormented cries that seemed to come from the very walls of the mansion, And then, the first scream pierced the silence. They rushed toward the sound. A pit in Luke’s stomach began to form. In a dimly lit room, they found Evelyn, her eyes wide with fear, staring at something unseen.
"Evelyn, what happened?" Jake demanded.
"I don't know... I like saw something... someone, maybe I don’t know-" she stammered, pointing toward a shadowy corner. Luke's gaze followed her trembling finger, but there was nothing there. Before anyone could react, a bone-chilling cold surrounded the room. The air seemed to thicken, and Luke felt an invisible weight pressing down on his chest. Another scream, this time from Mason, echoed through the mansion. Panic set in, and the group scattered, desperately trying to escape the unseen horror.
"Guys, we need to stick together. Has anyone actually watched a horror movie before!?" Luke shouted, but his words were lost in the chaos. As he stumbled through the haunted halls, Luke caught glimpses of his friends, each meeting a gruesome fate. Shadows seemed to come to life, moving with evil intent. The haunted mansion had transformed into a labyrinth of death. Luke was trapped in its clutches along with his friends. His breath quickened, and his footsteps echoed through the suffocating air. Luke felt a presence behind him, an unseen force closing in. He turned, but there was nothing there, just the darkness, devouring everything in its path. Dread weighed on him as he realized that the haunted mansion held a secret darker than its ghostly reputation. The shadows whispered of an evil force that wanted revenge, and Luke was drawn into its web. Now faced a horrifying reality: it was up to him to find out what was happening and survive whatever came for him and his friends.
