As It Was

Summary:

Yuusaku is about to leave for war and says goodbye to his only friend and first brother, Otonoshin.

(I've reworked a few things to make it look prettier and more appealing to me such as putting the letters in it italics. I'm also making this into a longer story with a pov going back and forth between Yuusaku and Koito)

Notes:

This is my first published story and will probably be shit. Also, they're kinda out of character but I really tried. I swear the Hamiliton reference is just the theatre kid in me making itself known. I hope you enjoy this and thanking you for reading my first official story <3

Chapter Text

Yuusaku sat across from Otonoshin. It would be in due time that he would be leaving to join Lieutenant Tsurumi on the frontlines. The 7th division needed him as their flag bearer. He knew that he had to leave though he wished that it wouldn’t so soon. All of the time that he spent with Otonoshin training and growing with each other would soon come to an end. Otonoshin was the closest thing he’s ever had to a friend. It was disappointing but it had to end.
“Don’t forget to write to me,” Otonoshin said.
“I won’t,” Yuusaku said. “Will you do your best to respond?”
“Of course. I will,” he said. “How could you ask me something like that?”
Yuusaku laughed. He wanted to stay here. It would be easier if he didn’t need to leave and could keep pretending to be a child with Otonoshin. There was nothing that was demanded or expected of him when they were together. All that mattered was that he was there. Otonoshin liked the attention that he gave to him and had no problem making demands and guiding the flow of the conversation and activities. He didn’t need to think too hard. No one was demanding that he act a certain way or live up to their impossible expectations. He wasn’t Second Lieutenant Hanazawa. He was just Yuusaku.
“I’ll miss you, Oto-chan,” he said.
“You’re saying this like it will be our final goodbye, Yuu-chan,” Otonoshin groans, rolling his eyes. “We’ll see each other soon. Plus we’ll be constantly writing to each other. I’ll see you on the other side.”
Yuusaku smiled, “You’re right. I don’t plan on dying just yet. I’ll see you on the other side.”
