Narya looked out the window and sighed. The snow was still coming down heavily, and the chill had never left the air. Not unexpected, since the Thompsons lived in Yellowknife, above the Arctic Circle.
There was simply no way they could get to the Hudsons’ holiday party in Ottawa.
She looked around their living room. Athough they didn’t have a fireplace, the room still looked festive, with the Christmas tree trimmed with bells, as well as the star Douglas had placed on top.
Doug came out of the kitchen then, carrying hot cocoa for all of them. “Still no sign of the snow letting up?”
“No, my love. I fear we shall not see our loved ones this holiday season.”
Doug smiled. He and Richard exchanged a smiling, secretive look. “Come with me,” Doug said then.
Narya followed him to the computer, sitting down in front of it. Richard climbed onto her lap, while Doug took a chair beside her. He switched on the computer, and typed in a Zoom link.
And Heather Hudson’s face appeared onscreen.
“Happy holidays, Snowbird, Doug, and Richard! We knew about the snowstorm in Yellowknife, and that you couldn’t come down to us. So, we decided to bring the holiday to you!”
Gradually, the faces of all the other members of the Flights began appearing onscreen. The air was filled with laughter and holiday greetings.
And Narya hugged her own family close. Through the miracle of technology, they were able to have their party after all!
