Chapter Text
Ahsoka stood before the mass graves of clones, her friends, her allies, everyone who followed Order 66. Her cloak covered everything but her face. She held her lightsaber out and just stared at it for a moment. If these clones followed Order 66, then every clone that still had the inhibitor chip in their heads would continue to follow it. She had to disappear. She had to die. If this new Empire ever found this place,
She let the saber roll out of her hand.
They had to believe she was dead.
She turned back to her last remaining friend on that moon. Rex was packing the last of their gear into the Y-wing. Ahsoka sighed but before she could walk over to him, she suddenly felt something. A presence in the Force. Ahsoka looked up to the stars. The presence was familiar. She’d recognize it anyway. Then, the presence doubled. The double presence felt like they were calling out to her. Ahsoka took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She reached out into the Force. A name came to her. Polis Massa.
“Ahsoka?” Rex questioned.
“Do you know the name Polis Massa?”
“Yeah, it was a planet that was destroyed. All that remains is an asteroid field. But I do recall Master Kenobi talking about a mine of some sort. Why?”
“We need to go there. Now.”
Rex nodded and the two of them got in the Y-wing.
/
“Attention approaching shuttle, state your purpose.”
Rex was about to speak but Ahsoka beat him to it, worried that if any Jedi were hidden within the mine, they would rightfully freak out.
“This is Ahsoka Tano.”
Suddenly the voice changed.
“Ahoska?”
“Obi-wan! You’re alive!”
“Barely. I am certainly glad to see you alive. Who’s with you? The scanners are coming up with two life forms aboard.”
“Rex is with me. Don’t worry, he disobeyed Order 66.”
Technically, that was a lie, but Obi-wan didn’t need to know that.
Obi-wan was silent for a moment.
“Are you sure, Ahsoka?”
“Yes, I’ll vouch for him.”
“Ok.”
Rex landed the ship and the two of them stepped out. When the gate opened, Obi-wan and Yoda stood waiting for them, both tensed at the sight of another clone. But their focus turned to the bandage on Rex’s forehead.
“Master Kenobi, Master Yoda.” Rex gave them a slight bow.
“Not following orders, how are you?” Yoda asked.
“The Kaminoians implanted inhibitor chips into our heads at our creation. Ahsoka removed mine.”
Obi-wan sighed.
“Come here, why have you?” Yoda turned to Ahsoka.
“I’m sorry, master, but I felt something, two presences calling to me.”
Obi-wan and Yoda looked at each other for a moment. “You better follow us.” Obi-wan said.
Ahsoka and Rex followed the two Jedi masters to a med-bay and found Padmé laying on the operating table, unmoving, not breathing.
“Padmé.” Ahsoka gasped. “What happ-” she stopped half way through when she saw two babies being cared for by droids. “She was pregnant?”
She didn’t need to ask who the father was. She already knew. She spent too much time with both Padmé and Anakin not to know.
“You’ve been gone a long time, Ahsoka.” Obi-wan said.
Ahsoka walked to Padmé. A lump formed in the back of her throat. She placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Goodbye, Padmé.” She turned back to the babies.
“Luke and Leia.” Obi-wan answered her silent question.
She grew a sad smile. “Hi, Luke, hi, Leia.” She whispered when she walked over. “They’re beautiful. What are you going to do with them?”
“Keep them safe, we must. Allow the Sith to find them, we must not.” Yoda replied. “Split them up, we should.”
Ahsoka gave a quick deep thought.
“No.”
“Excuse me?” Obi-wan asked.
“I said no. You can’t split them up.”
“Ahsoka-”
“No. Obi-wan, please. You can’t split them. All you’ll be doing is protecting them from the inevitable. This new Empire and the Sith will find them, it’s only a matter of time. Instead of protecting either of them, we should prepare them and not separate, together.”
Yoda and Obi-wan looked at each other for a moment.
“Alright, I wil-” Obi-wan began but Ahsoka interrupted.
“No, I will. Forgive me, Master Kenobi, but it should be me.”
“You?”
“Yes, me. You may have taught Anakin, but I understand how he thought, he taught me, and no one knew both Anakin and Padmé better than me.” Obi-wan was obviously close to Anakin, but he wasn’t incredibly close with Padmé, not like Ahsoka at least.
“Right, she is. Take them, she must.” Yoda finally said after a moment.
“Are you sure, Master?”
“I am. Take the children, you must. Raise them as your own, you will.”
/
Ahoska got changed into something different, some old rags and a cloak. When she emerged, Obi-wan pulled her aside.
“Ahsoka, before you go, there’s something you need to know about Anakin.”
Ahsoka looked down, she still remembered hearing Anakin betraying Mace Windu through the Force right before Order 66 was issued.
“I know, Obi-wan.”
“Yes, well, what you do not know is that I followed him to Mustafar. We fought until,” Obi-wan pulled Anakin’s saber out. “He left me no choice.”
Hearing the path Anakin ended up on, Ahsoka could feel tears welling up.
“Here. You should have this.” Obi-wan continued as he pushed the saber into Ahsoka’s hands.
“Me?”
“I see that you have lost your lightsabers, you may need this. But I recommend you only bring this out as a last case scenario. Nothing will bring this new Empire out faster than seeing a lightsaber, Jedi or not, our former clone army will be on you.”
She took the saber from him, it was heavier than hers, but it’ll have to do.
“Thank you, Obi-wan.”
She turned and found Senator Organa approaching with a satchel. “Here. I put enough money to give you a start.”
“No, I can’t take-”
“Yes you can. You must. It’s not enough for long. It’s just enough for a few months at most.”
Ahsoka sighed. She opened the satchel and pushed the saber down to the bottom of it. She walked over to the babies. She fashioned the cloth into twin baby carrier slings and gently wrapped them up. “Don’t worry, you two. I’ll take care of you.”
She turned back to Obi-wan, who placed a hand on both babies’ foreheads. “Take care of them.”
“I will.”
“There’s a mining shuttle just outside. It’ll take you to the nearest planet, from there, you’re on your own.”
“Thank you, Master Kenobi.” She was about to walk past him when she remembered something. “Oh, and Obi-wan. Be careful. Maul was able to escape our ship before it crashed. He’s still out there.”
“Thank you, Ahsoka.”
She walked past him and was greeted by Yoda, Rex, and Organa again.
“Good luck, Ahsoka.” Organa said.
“May the force be with you.” Yoda said.
“Thank you.”
She turned to Rex.
“You joining me?”
“Sorry, Ahsoka, I can’t. I need to find Cut and perhaps Clone Force 99 and any other clone who didn’t follow Order 66.”
“Sounds like a job perfect for you, Rex. Good luck.”
“You too.” Rex looked down at the babies. “Still can’t believe he had kids. Take care of them, kid. And you two, take good care of your Auntie Ahsoka.”
Ahsoka smiled at the nickname. She did call Anakin her brother, it was only fitting that she was these kids’ aunt. She walked past them and onto the mining shuttle. She pulled her hood over her head as she climbed aboard.
She sat back in her seat and looked down at her sleeping niece and nephew. She knew her new life was going to be difficult, she was going to have to constantly stay on the move to stay one step ahead of this new Empire and any other new threats that came with it.
