Chapter 1: Life at Dursley‘s

Chapter Text

Harry wasn‘t normal. He knew he wasn‘t, but he desperately wanted to be. Aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon said that his parents died in a car crash while being drunk. Maybe they would’ve loved him, because Vernon and Petunia certainly didn’t. But even that little Harry doubts. Who on this earth would love a freak?

A freak he is, for weird things happen around him. One time, aunt Petunia shaved his head but his hair grew back over night! It was almost… magical. No, magic is a forbidden word. Only freaks talk about magic and Harry tried his best not to be one.

And then Harry saw how his aunt and uncle treated his cousin. He couldn‘t really describe the exact feeling. He only knew it was ugly. A mixture of hatred, envy and rage filled him when he saw what Dudley got. Every year he had to witness Dudley opening his presents on several occasions while all Harry got were nasty glances and more chores. Harry desperately wanted to be loved. He told himself that was impossible. Nobody loves freaks like him.

But the worst thing weren‘t the endless chores, the envy, uncle Vernon‘s beatings or Dudley‘s gang that harassed him. The worst thing was that he wasn’t welcome anywhere. Not in his own house, not a school, not at the playground… Harry wasn’t one of them, no matter how painful those words were. He cold try to fit in, but he never would and he knew that.

-

It was Dudley‘s birthday. Perfect, really. Downright fantastic. Harry hated this day as soon as he woke up. Dudley literally stomped on the stairs, just to wake Harry from his sleep in the cupboard. After several groans, he stood up and walked into the living room, just to see a pile of presents and his outraged, crying cousin. Harry decided to make breakfast, as he did every fucking day. Aunt Petunia tried to calm Dudley down and succeeded. At least the screams ended and Harry could watch his cousin open a dozen presents, while he complained loudly about how everything wasn‘t what he wanted and stomping his feet onto the ground. Aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon promised Dudley that they would spend his birthday in the zoo and Dudley grunted in happiness. Perfect, just perfect.

The zoo was interesting tho, especially the reptiles. While Dudley hammered against glasses, Harry inspected the animals with interests. He was standing in front of a tank with a snake, a large one at that. Suddenly, he heard something. Incoherent whispers at first, but they grew louder. The snake, Harry realised. The snake was talking to him. What should he do? It‘d be rude not to answer, right? And Harry was way to interested anyway, so… He listened to what the snake was saying. It just seemed to be hungry… And it complained about being in a cage for its whole life. Harry knew that feeling all to well. If the snake could speak to him, surely he can speak to the snake…

§Can you understand me?§, he asked. §You ssspeak, but you don’t look like a snake. Tell me, child, who are you?§ Harry felt encouraged and replied: §I‘m Harry, Harry Potter. I-§

Just as he wanted to continue the barely started conversation, Dudley stormed towards the terrarium and banged his fists against it. Harry concentrated. Maybe, just maybe, he could get the glass to explode. Long story short, the glass shattered and the snake slithered out, but not before whispering a short thanks to Harry. Harry smiled, which was completely the wrong decision as his uncle picked him up and started shaking him and screaming like a madman. „YOU FREAK! YOU DID THAT, DIDNT YOU?!“ With every word, his uncles face grew redder. With every shake, Harry grew dizzier and the world around him started to fade…

-

Harry got a letter. For the first time in his life, someone cared about him enough to write a letter. His uncle snatched it away as soon as it came though. Harry thought the letter was a bit weird. Who sends these things with an owl?

A few days later, his house was flooded with letters. Literally flooded. And of course Harry read one. How cold he not? They invited him into Hogwarts, a wizarding school! There were other freaks like him, at a special school at that!

-

Hagrid had picked him up on his birthday and brought him to Diagon Alley. With a wand and the most beautiful owl, Harry felt ready to be a wizard. Hagrid had told him about you-know-who, who had killed his parents. Harry didn’t know what to feel. He was a celebrity, but he didn’t really wanted to be one for defeating a Dark Lord as a baby.

Currently, he was at the train station looking for platform 9 3/4. Odd. But Harry saw a family of redheads that ran through a pillar, so he supposed that was the way to go. Molly Weasley, the mother of the many children, ushered them through the stone wall. Then she saw Harry. „Your first time too? This is my son Ron, he is also on his first trip to Hogwarts. You could go together! Tell me, what’s your name? I’m Molly Weasley.“ She seemed very sweet and if Harry had to imagine a motherly figure, he would picture her. So he decided to answer. „I’m Harry Potter“ At that, Her eyes and those of Ron grew wide in disbelieve. „Harry Potter?“ They were amazed.

He had done it. He was at the right train station. Harry had followed Ron into the pillar. Now his mission was to find a nice compartment. In front of Harry were four compartments that offered seats.

In the first was Ron, the son of Mrs. Weasley. He was amazed by Harry and would surely be great company. He was a little annoying though…

In the second were two girls and one boy. They looked cheerful and nice. Harry could hear their laughter from within the compartment.

The third compartment was quiet. A boy and a girl were quietly reading a book. They both looked pretty invested and would definitely be quiet on the ride.

In the last compartment was a blonde boy as well as two similar looking boys that were a bit fatter. They reminded Harry of Dudley. The boys in the compartment didn‘t seem too nice, the blonde one looked more like a rich kid with his two bodyguards.

Which compartment should Harry choose?

A Ron‘s compartment (Chapter two)
B The cheerful and loud children (Chapter three)
C The quiet kids that are reading (Chapter four)
D The blond boy with his two companions (Chapter five)
