Chapter 1: The Big Reveal

-John-

John was still reeling, hearing that he had potential caught a serial killer at a simple trespassing call. Jerry had seemed like an odd guy, but he didn’t seem to have the wit that most killers carried themselves with.

Angela and Nyla had sent him in to question Jerry to keep from raising his suspicions about them knowing who he was. John had asked him basic questions about why he was breaking and entering, why he was there in the first place and his past criminal record full of small misdemeanors. Jerry had gotten arrogant and slipped up saying that the shed was too used, instead he said, “I need a new place to perform for my new soulmate.”

John found the comment seriously odd and had excused himself from the room. He met Angela and Nyla in the observation room, where the three figured out that he had another girl already.

They’d searched his property records and found two possible locations that could be sheds he was talking about. John and Miles went to one location while they sent Celina and Lucy to the other.

John and Miles came up empty handed, the shed looked like a regular working shed that held all sorts of tools and junk. Everything looked undisturbed, as if no one had entered the building in years. John called it in and he could only hope that Lucy and Celina had found something at their location.

-Angela-

Meanwhile, Angela and Nyla are questioning Jerry Manderson, though there wasn’t much talking going on. He was sat back in his chair, eyes glazed over with a smirk on his face. The guy really thought he was something special, giving both detectives the creeps.

Angela was losing her patience. A little girls life hung in the balance and this guys was playing God. Standing up, she slammed down a picture of Rebecca Norris, his most recent victim. “Where are you hiding them, Manderson??”

Jerry didn’t even have the nerve to flinch, he simply glanced at the picture and grinned to himself. Now Nyla was mad. “You are buried so far into a hole that you’ll never come out, man. Where are the other girls?!” Nyla questioned him.

At that, Jerry finally met their eyes. “Who said I had two?” He gleaned, an evil grin spreading across his face. “Though you do have a special one among you…”

Confused, Angela sat back down and prompted further, “What the hell does that mean?”

“Lucky me I happened to hear the name passing in the hallways.. she should be on her way to me now…” he said mysteriously.

Nyla and Angela glanced at each other, as they tried to determine what Jerry meant by that. As if he could read their minds, he added, “The one who got away..”

Angela’s eyes turned into saucers as she realized who he was talking about. Jumping up, she ran from the room as Jerry started his creepy, evil cackle. Nyla followed her from the room, prompting an officer to guard the door.

Angela was marching quickly down the hallway, yanking out her cell phone. Nyla hurried after her and started to say, “who is it, Ang” just as Celina picked up her phone call.

“Celina! Where are you guys at?”

Realization dawned on Nyla’s face, she felt sick.

Celina was a little confused as the rushed tone but responded that they were currently searching an old storage shed.

“Get the hell out of there!” Angela yelled into the phone.

“I.. we.. okay. I’ll go find Sergeant Chen then we’ll go,” she responded, growing more worried by Angela’s response.

“What do you mean? She’s not with you?” Angela felt blood rushing in her ears. Her friend was in even more danger than she realized.

“Celina? Celina!” Thunk, the phone sounded like it had been dropped and then the call ended.

“Damn it!” Angela shouted.

Hearing the commotion in the bull pen, Tim left his desk and approached the two detectives. “Detective Lopez! Mind telling me what the yelling match is about,” he stopped behind her, arms crossed across his chest, glaring at her.

Angela turned to face him, fear clearly written on her face. She lowered her phone, swallowing thickly as she prepared to tell Tim that Lucy was in danger.

He gave her a questioning looked though the toughness was beginning to falter at seeing the worry on her face.

“Tim… there’s been a threat made. Lucy.. she’s in trouble.”

Tim dropped his arms, the color draining from his face. “What.. what do you mean? She was fine when she went to check that lead with Celina.”

His eyes searched hers and a feeling of doom started overcoming him.

“Jerry wasn’t saying anything in the interview, then at the end he said that there was someone interesting among us and that ‘she was the one who got away.’”

Tim’s breath hitched, his ears ringing as he processed what she had just said.

“Tim?”

“Tim.”

He felt his breath coming in short, rapid puffs. He leaned forward, his hands hitting the desk next to him. Angela realized he needed to sit, grabbing a chair next to her and shoving him into it.

“Tim? Tim. Are you with me??” She asked, her hand on his shoulder.

Tim’s vision tunneled as he repeated the words in his mind. This can’t be happening. Not again. Please not again.

“Breathe with me Tim. In for two, out for two.” Angela prompted him.

“You can’t help Lucy if you pass out.”

-TIM-

At the mention of her name, Tim snapped back into focus. He stood quickly, looking around at the officers who had gathered with all the commotion.

“Listen up everyone! Two of our own are in danger, Sergeant Chen and Officer Juarez. I want a location found, Ping cell phone, follow leads. Let’s find them!”

Tim turned on his heel and swiftly left the room. Angels moved to follow him, but was stopped by Nyla holding out a hand to stop her.

“Give him a minute,” she said quietly.

Nodding, Angela turned and followed Nyla back to get answers from Jerry.

Tim didn’t stop at the watch commander's office, too many pouring eyes to watch him there. Instead, he walked quickly to his old metro office, clenching his jaw to keep his emotions at bay. He pushed the door open and yanked it shut behind him. He leaned his back against the door, his head falling back as the first tears tracked down his cheeks. Suddenly he was shaking, his body overcome with the news that Lucy, his Lucy, was in danger and no one knew where she was.

He sobbed, letting his emotions run through his body while he was hidden away in this room. After a minute of crying, he stood up straight, wiped his face with his hands and wiped them on his pants. He took two deep breaths, squared his shoulders and left the room, returning to the bullpen.
