Karma is a bitch

Summary:

Have you ever tried writing a story?
Then I am sure you have met Karma.

Work Text:

Karma is a bitch.
Karma knows that.

He finds it funny when big plans are made.
He loves to read about how, with a lot of heart and soul and passion, the smallest details are conjured up with a lot of effort.
He likes rough outlines best, from beginning to end, which then “only” need to be filled in.

Karma knows very well that everything will go off the rails anyway.

It always does.

There's no point in making plans or worrying about the end, or the loved ones who are supposed to come along the way, or the friends who lose each other and find each other again.
Someone, if not the people involved themselves, will ignore the plan and do something else.

You can plan the beginning, maybe even think of a title and suggest a rough direction you would like to take—but after that, it's almost easier to just watch and write the incident report.

Karma loves plans that go completely wrong.

A happy couple? Why not kill them both? Preferably an accident followed by suicide, for real heartbreak.
A children's birthday party? Here comes the killer clown.
He was at war for years and believed to be dead? He's back, he's a vampire and he's hungry.

Of course, it works the other way around, too.
A creepy cemetery where satanic rituals are held? The demon wouldn't hurt a fly and would much rather be an opera singer.
A mass murderer with two left feet! And he's blind, too, by the way.
Locked up in a torture chamber and ready for interrogation? BOOM! Kittens!

Karma loves to see plans fail.
He loves to help make that happen.
A little remark here, a hint there.
No one questions his confused babbling. It's Karma, after all.

What does that mean?

Go away.

Karma doesn't know if his brothers or his father have similar abilities. He can't remember any of them ever talking about it.

How would YOU know?

I'm the author. I created you. Now go away.

You gave me a name! I was here before you and I'll be here after you.

How did you even get here?

Pff. Says the guy who's writing about how much I love destroying stories.

Where was I?

Oh, right.
Karma knows that sometimes characters in print media and on TV break the fourth wall.
Joker, for example. Deadpool, Loki, Bugs Bunny, most characters in children's series, and many—

Ryan Reynolds is hot.

Yeah, yeah, maybe.
Now I've lost my train of thought.
You're always causing trouble!

Hm. Karma's a bitch.
