Chapter 1: Character profiles

Chapter Text

ALEXANDER "RAVEN" RADCHENKO

When Raven speaks of his past, his account is brief and dry - only general facts that offer little real insight. Until the age of 25, despite a difficult childhood, his life could be described as relatively normal. In 2010, he traveled to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. He never clearly explains the reasons behind this decision - whether it was a thirst for adventure or a simple desire to earn good money.

However, over the course of two years, he changed drastically and eventually left the Zone, taking with him a vast amount of knowledge, along with countless nightmares and psychological scars. Some time after leaving the Zone, he signed a contract with the army and rapidly climbed the ranks, becoming an officer thanks to his father’s connections. During the International Contingent Operation in Chernorussia, he commanded an assault platoon as part of the Ukrainian Peacekeeping Corps.

By a cruel twist of fate, after Chernorussia he was transferred to a National Guard brigade tasked with guarding the perimeter of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, placing him back in the Zone once again - this time as part of the PSF. Ultimately, he deserted and returned to life as a stalker.

In 2020, in the Wild Territory, Raven was ambushed by mercenaries seeking revenge for his past actions in the PSF. They managed to corner and surround him, but Raven found an original and utterly insane way to escape - he leapt into a spatial anomaly. For unknown reasons, the anomaly hurled him a thousand years into the future, onto Copper-9, where the stalker found himself among the ruins of a snow-covered city, struggling to survive.

Raven possesses a complex personality: he is hot-tempered, excessively self-confident, often sarcastic, prone to reckless risks, and capable of biting remarks. However, this is merely an outer shell - inside, he hides deep exhaustion, empathy, and a desire to protect those close to him; he is often willing to strike a deal even with the "devil" to achieve his goals.

For the past several years, he has been plagued by nightmares, which on Copper-9 evolved into hallucinations. Whether these are merely echoes of the past or something more, Raven cannot say.

SERIAL DESIGNATION J-10x111001

J is the commander of the Disassembly Squad. Her first memory is awakening in a landing pod and receiving instructions from the Company. Together with her squadmates, J spent twenty years hunting worker drones. Over time, she became known for her pedantic and efficient approach to killing, which is why she typically favors long-range and heavy weaponry.

At times, however, she allows herself to psychologically torment her victims, crushing their dignity to boost her own self-esteem. This style often led to conflicts within the squad - in her opinion, N tends to slack off and perform his duties carelessly, while V displays excessive sadism that sometimes jeopardizes missions. Nevertheless, her working relationship with V remains functional, whereas she openly despises N, occasionally resorting to physical punishment.

J is strict, arrogant, and a workaholic. She never holds back sarcastic or venomous remarks and, as a perfectionist, cannot tolerate disorder in her work. She expects the same level of professionalism and dedication from others, and their absence frequently drives her into a rage.

During one of the hunts, J entered an abandoned shopping mall, where she encountered a living human. From that moment on, she set herself the goal of capturing and interrogating him. Soon after, strange things began happening to her - she started seeing… visions? She dismisses it all as a ridiculous malfunction. After all, she knows the golden rule of JCJenson: a good employee does not ask questions. J is a good employee. And she does not ask questions.

SERIAL DESIGNATION V-x00100000

V is the Disassembly Squad JVN’s trump card - a bloodthirsty and merciless weapon. Over twenty years on Copper-9, she earned a reputation among both disassembly drones and the few surviving worker drones as a deranged maniac and sadist who genuinely revels in slaughter, as if she lives solely for it.

In combat, she prefers close-quarters fighting, as it allows her to savor her victim’s fear and suffering longer and from up close. One of her favorite hunting tactics is playing with her prey - cornering it over time, sometimes offering false hope of escape, only to brutally finish it in the end. This behavior frequently earned her long, tedious lectures from J, her commander, whom V doesn’t really listen to. J would argue that V’s tactics were a waste of time and achieved nothing, to which V would merely roll her eyes and fly off to hunt again.

These disputes, along with N’s persistent attempts to gain her approval, pushed V into becoming a loner who rarely operates with her squad. Most of her communication consists of mocking N and exchanging a few words with J, though occasionally she still joins J on hunts.

V is sadistic, sardonic, cruel, and openly mocks others without shame. But… sometimes, others notice not her usual crazed, sadistic grin, but a calm, thoughtful, even slightly sorrowful expression - rare and fleeting. What goes through her mind in those moments is known only to V, and few dare to ask, for curiosity may very well be fatal.

SERIAL DESIGNATION N-0x0010010

N is a member of the Disassembly Squad JVN who, despite carrying out his tasks diligently and without asking unnecessary questions, somehow frequently fails missions or barely scrapes by with a rating of "acceptable", much to the fury of his commander, J.

Despite his failures and J’s punishments, N continues to perform his duties and sincerely tries to do his best, even if the results are inconsistent. Over twenty years, he developed his own unique fighting style - a combination of V’s and J’s methods, along with his own emphasis on unconventional weaponry, making him a truly versatile fighter.

One of the reasons for N’s low productivity may be his unusual curiosity for a disassembly drone - instead of hunting worker drones, he often explored ruins. Being shunned by his squadmates eventually led him to create his own "den" in one of Copper City’s apartments, where he stored his finds and spent time on his hobby - drawing. He never forgot about hunts, but approached them with far less enthusiasm than V or J. Even killing worker drones was merely a necessity to him, something done without pleasure.

This all stems from N’s character, which differs greatly from what a murder drone is supposed to be. N is kind, loyal, eternally optimistic, and curious. He always tries to see the positive where others cannot and strives to maintain a friendly atmosphere within the team. But mistaking his kindness for stupidity or naivety would be a grave error. No matter what others say, N is not a fool - when necessary, he shows decisiveness, resolve, and fearlessness. After all, how could someone who was the first to question the true purpose of the disassembly drones on Copper-9 be a fool?

UZI DOORMAN

Uzi Doorman is a representative of the first free generation of worker drones, born after the collapse of Copper-9’s core. Despite her status as the "leader’s daughter", her life can hardly be called good.

She was born shortly before the Murder Drone Invasion, during which she lost her mother, Nori. She grew up without maternal love and largely without paternal affection as well - Khan devoted nearly all his time to work, leaving Uzi to herself. As a result, she spent much of her time alone, discovering a passion for programming and tinkering with mechanisms, which eventually evolved into exceptional hacking skills and true inventiveness.

School - a place meant for socialization - only worsened her social situation. She became the target of mockery and outright bullying, leading to near-zero social skills and an aggressive personality. Despite this, she is obsessed with one idea - helping her people reclaim the surface and taking revenge on the murder drones for years of fear and terror.

Uzi is brash, stubborn, blunt, a nonconformist, and highly intelligent. And despite her performative disregard for society and claims that she doesn’t care about her status as a "freak outcast", she genuinely longs for recognition - for someone, anyone, to acknowledge her worth, for her father to be proud of her, and to help her people, even if they reject her.

DOLL SOKOLOVA

Doll belongs to the generation of worker drones born after the collapse of Copper-9’s core - free from humanity’s oppression. She barely remembers the brief period when worker drones ruled the surface and spent nearly her entire life in a bunker. Doll’s family was very close to Khan - her father had been his friend even before the collapse, and Yeva was a close friend of Khan’s wife, effectively serving as one of his few trusted advisors.

Despite her quiet, reserved, and introverted nature, Doll became best friends with Lizzy and Thad and even joined the school cheerleading team. She spent most of her free time with them, while the rest she devoted to reading, drawing, and playing Tetris with her mother.

Overall, her life at Outpost-3 was peaceful, and she rarely thought about the future. Like most of the new generation, the surface was something distant and incomprehensible to her, and thus not a source of concern.

Still, she had one dream that never left her in peace - to see the moons of Copper-9. Who knows, perhaps one day her wish will come true.

TESSA JAMES ELLIOTT

Tessa was born into a family of major JCJenson shareholders and representatives of the techno-aristocracy. As the sole heir of the Elliott family, she was expected to become a typical aristocrat and corporate functionary, but things took a different turn.

Due to Tessa’s "oddities" - sociability, kindness, and a passion for robotics - she failed to fit in among other wealthy children and was often ostracized. Eventually, her parents decided they had no need for such a "disgrace" and isolated her in their mansion. This resulted in a lack of social skills and live interaction, but she found solace among discarded worker drones from a nearby junkyard.

YEVA "048" SOKOLOVA

A worker drone who, before the collapse of Copper-9’s core, was a test subject in the Cabin Fever Labs, where she and many other "subjects" were infected with the Absolute Solver. From that time, Yeva remembers almost nothing beyond fragmented flashes, but even those suggest her time there was far from pleasant.

During the catastrophe that wiped out all life on the planet, Yeva and her fellow victim - and best friend - Nori found themselves at its epicenter but somehow escaped. Later, at Camp 98.7, Yeva and the other surviving Cabin Fever Labs subjects were taken in by a group of worker drones led by Khan Doorman and Dmitry Sokolov.

By irony of fate, one of the drones who saved Yeva was a Russian-speaking worker drone, and a spark of love ignited almost instantly, eventually leading to marriage and the birth of their daughter - Doll.

Happiness did not last forever. Capsules containing disassembly drones fell from the skies, bringing death to the workers. During the Invasion, Yeva and Nori used the Solver to cover the evacuation of others into Outpost-3’s bunker. Of all the Solver carriers, only Yeva survived - Nori was mortally wounded by nanite acid.

After the bunker doors sealed, a new chapter began for Yeva. Due to her closeness to Nori and her husband’s friendship with Khan, Yeva became one of Khan’s few trusted advisors. However, governance never interested her much, so she instead became the modest head of the Cryolabs Department, where she spent most of her time.

Yeva is quiet, eternally calm, and polite, yet capable of bluntness and fearlessness. Much of her character was passed on to her daughter, Doll.

DMITRY "DIMA" SOKOLOV

Though Dmitry was merely a worker drone at one of the Company’s production facilities, this Russian-speaking drone somehow befriended Khan, an assistant drone to a shift supervisor. They worked together and often shared thoughts, most frequently discussing how wonderful it would be for worker drones to live without human oppression.

Fate seemed to smile upon them when the catastrophe wiped out all humans on Copper-9, granting the drones their long-awaited freedom. Thanks to his skills, Khan quickly became the de facto leader, gathering drones to form a colony. Dmitry stood by his side as his right hand, forming a well-coordinated tandem that rapidly built a new society among humanity’s ruins.

During one of their expeditions, Dmitry met his future wife, Yeva, another Russian-speaking drone. Though initially closed off, Yeva eventually opened up, and they formed a family, welcoming their daughter, Doll.

When humanity attempted to reclaim Copper-9 by sending murder drones, countless worker drones perished, along with hopes for peace. Dmitry survived this hell and kept his family safe. When Khan announced the creation of the WDF, Dmitry joined among the first, becoming Khan’s deputy and chief advisor in managing the bunker.

OLIVER "OLI" FITZGERALD

Before the explosion of Copper-9’s core, Oliver worked at a data reception station, where he trained newly arrived drones and met his future wife. After the explosion, he encountered a group of worker drones led by Khan Doorman. Just days before the Invasion, his daughter Lizzy was born. When the murder drones landed on Copper-9, his wife was killed, leaving him alone with a newborn child.

The next twenty years he devoted to the well-being of Outpost-3. Like most male drones, he served in the WDF and worked as an elementary school teacher. Through diligence and his close friendship with Dmitry Sokolov, he earned Khan’s trust and by 3070 became part of his inner circle.

Though he may initially appear cowardly and overly cautious - born from fear of leaving his daughter without a father - over time he demonstrated clear thinking in critical situations, organization, and emerging leadership qualities.

In 3070, fate brought him together with a human bearing the strange name Raven. Despite a rocky start, their cooperation grew into a strong friendship.

HYGIEIA "GIA" ILIADI

The chief and only doctor of Outpost-3. Before the Copper-9 catastrophe, she spent many years working as an assistant drone to a chief physician at a city hospital, gaining medical skills not only through built-in programs but also through extensive hands-on experience.

After humanity’s extinction, Gia remained at her post, hoping some humans had survived, but none had. Soon, she and the remaining hospital worker drones joined Khan Doorman’s group, which was forming a new colony - Outpost-3.

Gia is blunt, phlegmatic, and capable of dry sarcasm. Despite her outward coldness and occasional sharpness, she is caring, responsible, and committed to medical principles - helping all who are in need, regardless of circumstances.

LIZZY FITZGERALD

Lizzy can easily be called a true superstar among young worker drones. The most popular girl in senior school and a Dronegram blogger, she has never lacked attention - everyone wanted to be her friend, or more.

She keeps others at a distance, limiting interactions to surface-level exchanges, and if someone annoys her, she can easily make them "unpopular". Sarcastic, self-absorbed, and always ready to mock others, Lizzy is far from a saint.

Yet for her father - who raised her alone after her mother Kirpi’s death - and her true friends, she is completely different. Supportive, brave, and deeply loyal, she shows her real self only to those closest to her - Lizzy and Thad. And the latter has long been more than just a best friend to her.

THAD THOMPSON

Thad was raised by his mother, who spent most of her time serving in the WDF. Despite this, he never grew bitter - he understood her duty, and she always tried to spend every free moment with him.

Her upbringing helped Thad grow into a kind, compassionate, determined, and brave drone whose dream was to join the WDF and help his people. On his way to that dream, Thad also became a successful athlete and popular among classmates thanks to his open and friendly nature - which often surprises others, given that he is Lizzy’s boyfriend, her apparent opposite.

Thad doesn’t care about others’ opinions. They don’t know the real her, and regardless of her flaws, his feelings for her are genuine.

KHAN DOORMAN

Before the core collapse, Khan was an assistant drone to a shift supervisor at a JCJenson facility on Copper-9, granting him strong management, organization, and engineering skills. When the "day of liberation" came, this proved invaluable - Khan became the leader who gathered worker drones to found a new colony in an abandoned human bunker - Outpost-3.

At Camp 98.7, Khan’s group encountered strange worker drones claiming to be laboratory test subjects, but Khan paid little attention - his focus was drawn to a purple-haired drone who would later become his wife, Nori.

Peace was short-lived. Nori began losing her sanity, plagued by visions and nightmares, after which she could only beg Khan to build doors to protect against "heavenly demons". Out of love and hope, Khan complied.

But things never returned to normal. Even after the doors were built, Nori’s condition worsened, and her madness proved prophetic - the demons came, taking both the surface and Khan’s wife.

After sealing the bunker doors, Khan chose to organize life in the colony rather than succumb to grief. He created the Worker Defense Force and immersed himself fully in managing the bunker.

NORI "002" DOORMAN

Like Yeva, Nori was once a test subject of the Cabin Fever Labs and was infected with the Absolute Solver, potentially meant to be humanity’s key to victory over it.

Nori fiercely resisted this fate, driven by her rebellious nature and hatred of "meatbags", often sabotaging experiments. This defiance, however, made her more prone to losing control and surrendering her body to the Absolute Solver. A failed attempt to "patch" her resulted not in failure, but in planetary catastrophe - the extinction of all humans within seconds.

Humanity’s demise granted worker drones freedom, and Nori a family. After escaping the ruins of the Labs, she joined a group forming a colony and quickly fell in love with its leader, Khan. This led to marriage and the birth of their daughter, Uzi.

Initially, Nori remained explosive, stubborn, and bold, radiating ideas for a new drone society. Over time, paranoia set in. She became withdrawn, whispered to herself, and experienced visions, after which she locked herself away, covering surfaces with drawings of "heavenly demons" and "singularities".

Above all else, she begged Khan to build massive doors to stop the demons.

Khan fulfilled her wish. Tragically, she was right. On the day of the Invasion, Nori and Yeva shielded evacuating drones using the Solver. Nori was struck by nanite acid. When Khan and Yeva dragged her into the bunker and sealed the doors, Nori begged for one thing - to be killed. That day marked her death.

Among Outpost-3’s residents, the story is known: Khan mercy-killed his wife with a wrench. At least, that is his version of events.
