Till the end

Summary:

It all started on an Island. It almost always starts with an island.
The minute they touch the docks their own instincts screamed for them to run.

It’s a shame they’re more stubborn than anything.. Or fortunate.

ON HIATUS while I catch up on the show and work

Notes:

Not beta read and fueled by a concerningly new obsession, I'm so normal about this show. I'm so very rusty when it comes to writing fics or anything not a script, so sorry for any.... rough writing lol. Please take this with a grain of salt story wise, It's a way for me to have fun in my little fandom bubble.

This isn't a self insert, but an Original character; one I plucked from the cabinet lol.

Also for time line wise, I'm replacing this where the Ocean dream arc was (Episodes 220-224). mainly because I've yet to understand was the point of those episodes beside introducing possible ascension and magic basically being real cause what do you mean memories from some seahorse dragon bs can just- whatever, it's fine.

So I use to watch One Piece back when it was first airing on 4kids, and it's as of early this month I decided to rewatch it from the start! as I am typing this I'm on episode 251 (not when I am posting this; prob edit it it later).

But I had such a vivid Idea for this. also I struggle with words now, so any mistakes sorry please let me know, that and a nice get away from current events and work.

Edit: I now have a different outlook on these episodes and cementing it as a "They would have bonded together eventually regardless of no memories." Again super rusty so sorry if my writing is pretty stiff, I won't lie I was struggling to write this out just due to rust and putting the idea together. let me know what you thought, pls be respectful!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: A Pledge

Chapter Text

It all started on an Island. The signs were all there with each member, and for once their own instincts telling them to run. It’s a shame they’re more stubborn than anything.. Or fortunate.

—---------------------

Bored.

It was a word they never thought they would associate with what they do. Or at least that’s the word they would best define with their current emotions.

feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one's current activity.

Or at least that’s what the book of words defined it as. But it didn’t feel quite right. They weren’t unoccupied or uninterested in what they were doing. How could they be? This is what they were made for! What made everything worth anything!

They shift as their thoughts quiet, an intimate mixture of emotions lays itself on his mind. A tap and a rush quickly fixes things and they perk back up ready to start the day anew.

—----------------------

A soft breeze and the smell of salt combined with the familiar rocking of the merry made the perfect recipe for a mid day nap. It helped as well that everyone was still fairly tired from the ridiculousness that was the Foxy pirates. A sense of peace after so much finally settling in their bones. Or at least, it tried.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE’S NO MEAT??? I WANT MEAT, MEAT, MEAT MEAT-” an almost shrill shout suddenly cuts through the air, startling everyone out of their own activities.

A crash reverberates through the ship and a flash of red comes sailing through the kitchen doors into the foremast. Luffy groans as he slides down it, just as a panting and exasperated Sanji making his way out the same doors.

“I told you we were low on food this morning! There’s no reason for you to throw a tantrum over it now so stop pissing me off!” Sanji grits out with a wave of a knife leaning on the rail, as Luffy pouts from where he was flopped on the deck.

Letting out a deep sigh Sanji perked up, turning around to look where Nami was tending to her trees. “Nami-swan said she will get us to the next island as fast as possible~” he coos out before flipping back to irritant looking back at luffy. “So just be patient alright?”

From between the trees Nami gives a thumbs up tilting her head out as well, letting out an amused chuckled “From what I gathered at Long Ring Long Land, there’s a type of resort island just east of here. Perfect for stocking up and….” She trails off, looking down at a mopey Luffy.

“We could even see if they have a buffet, while we site see.”

And just like Luffy perks up and as if their own ears were burning, from the storeroom Usopp and Chopper excitedly spring out.

“BUFFET??”

“No-”

“We’re having a buffet!? Did Zoro catch something big?”

“No you-” “Nah, I think zoro’s taking a nap in the-”

“Then why even mention-”

“WOULD YOU IDIOTS SHUT UP AND JUST LISTEN FOR A SECOND”

Up on the crow’s nest Zoro snorts and grumbles sitting up to peer down. Raising an eyebrow as he watches an annoyed Nami chase the three around while Sanji chases her cheering her on. A faintly amused Robin comes up from below deck to see what all the commotion was about.

“What are those idiots doing…”

—--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The moment they spot the island the crew are filled with a sense of awe and budding wariness. Along its docks were a mixture of marine like ships as well as those that were pirates. Some of which even looked familiar.

Usopp was the first to speak up on it, face pinched in that familiar anxious expression. ‘H-hey maybe we should…. Catch the next island??”

“Yeah nut… how long would that take?” Sanji drawls, taking a deep drag from his cigarette.

“It shouldn’t be too much of a problem. You see if I’m guessing right this is the island Idyll.” Robin pipes in, smiling when everyone turns their attention to her.

“Idyll is a rather peculiar island of neutral territory, enforced by what I’ve heard rather strong enforcers.” she explains, which brings a relieved sigh from chopper and a disbelieving shout from Usopp. Tilting her head she grapes the bottom of her chin in thought, eyeing the island critically.

“And given its tendencies to change locations as well-”

“IT’S A TRAVELING ISLAND??” Luffy interrupts excitedly, scrambling to the sheep figurehead, leaning to the side enough in wonder.

“Luffy you idiot!!”

“You’ll fall into the water!”

And just like that the conversation derails as they try to get luffy to at least not lean so far as to fall in, who in turn argues that he wasn’t to see what’s making such a big island move.

“Oh come on! What if it’s like a ship! I want to knoooooow!!!”

To which Zoro tilts his head in thought “Maybe they have fishes pulling?”

Usopp shakes his head “Don’t be ridiculous what fish would-”

“Maybe it’s a whale! I read that whales can grow islands on their backs!” chopper chirps excitedly to which Luffy leans to grab him. “A WHALE?”

Sanji tsks shaking his head now “No, the story you're thinking of it was a turtle that had an island on its back.”

“Stupid chef, why would it be a turtle? They're too slow.” Zoro scoffs, causing sanji to snap his attention to him in annoyance. “You’re the idiot mosshead! Turtles aren’t actually slow they-”

Nami looks at these gaggle of idiots, a mix of exasperation and the building urge to punch all of them into silence. Deciding to save herself the head ache she turns to Robin with a tense smile.

“Forget these idiots robin, can you continue telling me about this place?” “How about we talk in the kitchen? Less distractions.”

—------------------------------------------------------

Idyll Island

“An island that frankly, shouldn’t exist for multiple reasons. After all, neutral locations that truly welcome all regardless of who you are, can never actually last with marine militants or even the weakest pirate crew stepping foot on such lands.

Though I suppose it does help that this place doesn't exactly stay in one place.

No one knows exactly how they’re able to do it but many speculate that it is built on some form of a large ship. The movement from the sea creates enough energy to produce electricity for its inhabitants. All very high tech.

For those who visit, they hail it for the paradise it presents itself to be. Those who do go there to cause trouble are apparently swiftly dealt with.”

Nami tilts her head slightly from where it rests in her palm. “Dealt with? What do they mean by that?” she asks, sitting up straighter as Robins hums.

“Well, that’s just as mysterious as the island's way of operations. Some say you just disappear and reappear completely mellowed out. Some are escorted away back to their ship, or as the claims go.”

A slight hush falls over the two, just as the boys make their way in; each bruised up in their own way.

Letting out a deep sigh Nami nods. “Alright everyone. Swear to me that you won’t cause any trouble-” and before she finishes she snaps her head to look at them with a hardened glare that contains pure malicious intent. “Seriously if you mess this up, potentially disappearing will be the LEAST of your problems.”

In order of height the boys kneel nodding their heads in sync. “Yes, ma’am we promise.”

Notes:

IT'S DOOOONNEEE (This took longer than expected but IRL shit happened, and this was almost 8 pages before I cut some things back)

There are parts in this chapter I very much got possessed by their shared two brain cells, is it obvious where?

Can you guess who's my favorite strawhat beside luffy? (obviously except luffy, Wouldn't be making this if I wasn't a toe from obsessed, I mean who the fuck rewatches all these episodes, creates and OC, and decide to rewrite all of canon INCLUDING the filler episodes if necessary, if I was anywhere close to NOT disliking Luffy.)
