Chapter Text
I let out a yawn of boredom as classes ended.
As I was standing up from my seat, I could see the kids my age taking out their duel monster decks to play.
Meanwhile,I looked at the 4000 yen saved in my pockets.
‘Finally, I can buy one too’ I thought as I exited the classroom.
It's been a month since I transmigrated into the world of yu-gi-oh gx, and if I wanted to enter duel academia, I needed a deck to do so.
Of course, saving money when you're fourteen years old isn't easy.
However, I stopped walking when I heard something.
“Ugh, bad cards again?! Guess I'll have to put them in the card cemetery” I heard a kid complain.
I quickly turned around and asked “Excuse me, where's that card cemetery you talk about?”.
The kid blinked.
I took quick steps as I approached the store.
It was pretty small , but I stopped walking when I saw a poster.
Exchange your old and unwanted cards for a discount for newer cards! Up to 20% if you give more than twenty cards!
I narrowed my eyes.
When I passed through the door, I could see lots of people forming a line.
As I waited for my turn, I could hear people talk to themselves.
“Finally I can get rid of this trash!”
“Can’t wait to get better cards cheaper!”
When it was finally my turn, the person in front spoke desinterestly “Please put the cards you want to exchange for your discount”.
“Actually, I wanted to see if you could sell me those unwanted cards” I corrected.
The person, along with everyone behind me, blinked.
Before the kids began laughing.
“Is he stupid?!”
“He must be pretty desperate to want those trash cards!”
“Uh, are you sure? You know the store has newer cards, right?” The store owner asked.
I nodded “Yeah, I'm sure”.
The person sighed, before he spoke “Please wait until the store closes, then I'll show them to you”.
I nodded, and as I walked away from the line, I could hear the whispers behind my back.
Half an hour later, when the line was gone, he entered a door, and came back with three shoe boxes.
My eyes widened, and he spoke “To be honest, since I put that discount, I've had to separate the cards to have more space in the inventory”.
In each of the boxes there was a word, one said “monsters”, the other “Spells”, and finally one that had “Traps”.
“How much would it be for the three boxes?” I asked.
“Well, you’re the first person that actually wants the cards, so I'll have them to you for 1000 yen each box” he offered
I looked at the money I had saved, and added “Can I see how many cards the boxes have?”.
When the store owner nodded, I opened the spell one, just to gasp at the fact it was full!
In fact, when I opened the trap and monster one, they were full too!
I quickly snapped my head, and spoke as I put the three hundred yen in the counter “I accept!”.
The store owner laughed.
I quickly took off my shoes when I entered my house, and ran towards my room.
As I closed the door, I put the boxes on my bed.
“Time to arm a deck!” I sang as I opened the monster one.
As I began putting the cards on the bed, however, I blinked in incredulity at two cards I found.
“Gorz the Emissary of Darkness?! D.D. crow?!” I asked in shock.
I quickly grabbed them, and asked “Who the hell would throw you two?”.
Suddenly, the cards…shined?
Much of my incredulity, two transparent forms that looked exactly like those cards appeared in front of me.
“W-What the-?” I began asking.
Realization crossed my mind, and I pointed at them “Y-You two are duel spirits?!”
The humanoid spirit crossed his arms, while the bird stood on his shoulder.
“So you know what we are? Guess this could be more interesting than I expected” Gorz spoke.
I looked at the box, and spoke “So there are more of you in the box?”.
The bird nodded, and made some sounds.
Groz nodded “Yeah, we were a prize in a tournament, but a rich brat exchanged us because he thought D.D. crow was useless and I was hard to summon”
I gave them a deadpan look.
“Did that guy have brain damage?” I asked completely seriously.
The two blinked.
“I mean, you two are good hand traps! Hello, D.D crow can be used to disrupt graveyard plays, and gorz, you can literally turn duels around with your summon effect!” I stated.
The red-haired fiend smiled, while the crow made some happy sounds.
“Looks like we'll get along after all” The monster used by Yami yugi in yu-gi-oh R spoke.
I looked at the box, and added “Well, I hope so, but I need to have a deck first to show the potential of both of you” as I began looking through the rest of the box.
When I did, I recognized most of the cards, after all I liked to collect old ones back in my original world.
“Wow, Adhesive Explosive? Oh look, the magician twins! The pre-light of destruction batterymen!” I began fanboying.
When I finished revising all the monster cards, I moved to the spells and traps.
I was confused when I found more than three copies of Solemn Judgment, three copies of upstart goblin, last will, two foolish burials and one ultimate offering.
Of course, most of the other spells and traps were more situational or specific, but still!
I had a wild smile as I felt like I won the lottery.
I turned towards the two spirits, and stated “Well, guess making a deck will be much easier now!”.
