Doki doki! Literature club

Summary:

Hi, Monika here!
Welcome to the Literature Club! It's always been a dream of mine to make something special out of the things I love. Now that you're a club member, you can help me make that dream come true in this cute game!

Every day is full of chit-chat and fun activities with all of my adorable and unique club members:

Sayori, the youthful bundle of sunshine who values happiness the most;
Natsuki, the deceivingly cute girl who packs an assertive punch;
Yuri, the timid and mysterious one who finds comfort in the world of books;
...And, of course, Monika, the leader of the club! That's me!

I'm super excited for you to make friends with everyone and help the Literature Club become a more intimate place for all my members. But I can tell already that you're a sweetheart—will you promise to spend the most time with me? ♥

Chapter Text

As im walking to school, I see a messy pink haired girl running at me.
"Hehheh... I caught you this time! " the girl giggles as she begins walking alongside me, out of breath.
That girl, is my childhood bestfriend
Sayori.
Sayori is like the kind of friend you wouldnt see yourself making today, but it just kind of works out because you've known eachother for so long.
As we walk down to the school, Sayori is rambling on about stuff at school and clubs. Then she freezes for a second, and taps me on the shoulder.

"Have you joined any clubs yet? Their really nice!" I keep walking and sigh. I admit, i hadnt joined any clubs, and wasnt planning to. Sayori dramatically gasps and tells me to join her club.
"You should join the literature club! The people are really nice and-" I cut her off.
"Sayori, im not interested in joining any clubs." She frowns and pouts that "theyll make cupcakes if you come! Just for a day! Please?"

And thus marks the day I sold my soul for a cupcake.

After dragging through a whole day of school, Sayori runs up to me in the halls and grabs my arm to pull me to the literature club.
I dont reconise the hallway, i think its something for year 3's, but im not too sure.
As we walk in the door, im shocked.
This club...
Is filled with insanely cute girls!!

As we go up to them for sayori to introduce me, I take a look around. There is a tray of cupcakes as promised. Thank god she didnt lie about that.
Then there the four girls.

Sayori, whom i already have talked about
A girl with long dark purple hair,
A girl with short pink hair and a red clip
And monika, who has a long light brown ponytail with a long white bow.

I reconised Monika as she had been in my class the previous year. Monika is the type of girl everyone would want. Shes pretty, smart, athletic.... Yea, i admit, i have a crush on monika. But who wouldn't?
The girl with the short pink hair looks at me in shock
"You seriously brought a boy? Way to ruin the atmosphere." She says angrily before walking away with the tray of cupcakes.
"Natsuki! That is no way to treat our new member. Please come back here and apologize." Monika slightly yells to the short pink haired girl, whos name i have learned to be Natsuki.
Natsuki defeatedly walks back and sets the tray back down before i process what monika said.
"New member? I never said i was actually gonna join this club." Right after i finish my sentence, all four girls get a sad look on their face as i realize my mistake
"But i will join it, just dont assume things about me though. I just didnt like that." I quickly correct myself with.
"Thank gosh, id be pretty pissed if you just came for the cupcakes." Natsuki says before turning away and adding "n-not that I 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 if you stay! Hmph."
Monika says just ignore her, she can be a little moody sometimes but she'll warm up eventually.

Monika begains to intruduce everyone
"Im Monika, although you already know that. Im the leader of this club!
Sayori, whom you also know.
Yuri, the dark purple haired girl whos quite shy.
And Natsuki, the youngest. "

Now that i think about it, i hadnt heard yuri talk the entire time yet. I glance at her and shes playing with her hair but glanced up at me and turned away flustered. She must have been glancing at me a few times and got caught, i dont really mind though.

As we go to sit down, yuri pulls out a tea kettle and asks if anyone would like tea. I raise my hand along with the others, and she begains to brew some in the corner.

I sit next to sayori as I already know her so it isnt awkward, but I see yuri writing in a journal while waiting for the water to boil and monika notices too.
"Hey yuri, whatcha writing if ya dont mind my asking?" Yuri looks up and quickly attempts to cover the notebooke and replies "nothing.. Nothing important atleast. "

Despite her attempts, monika looks at the page and notices what shes writing.
"Wow yuri, you write your own poems? Thats amazing!" Natsuki looks up with a shimmer in her eyes and looks like shes going to say something before she turns back around and goes back to writing in her own notebook.

Yuri looks down in embarrassment and her long silky hair covers her face.
God i wish i could just, run my fingers through it or something it looks so soft- im getting off track. Yuri pauses and stays looking down before quietly saying "sometimes... " even though you can see the notebook is filled. Monika walks back to the front of the classroom and stips at natsukis desk.
"Natsuki, do you write your own poems too?" Monika says, looking like she has an idea. Which, she did, i just didnt know it yet. Natsuki looks up and replies "yeah, so what? Its a form of literature and expression! Got a problem or something? " and then goes back to writing.

Monika realizes she had said it as if she was disgusted and immediately apologizes
"Nononono, thats not what i meant im sorry, i meant i think its really cool that you write your own poems!" Monika quickly explains then continues
"Yuri and natsuki, would you mind sharing some of your poems? I think its really neat you guys do that.
Both yuri and natsuki shake their heads and close their notebooks, and monika slightly frowns then smiles again before heading to the front of the classroom and making an announcement.
"Actually, this gives me an idea. Everyone, when you go home today, write a poem and we will share them with eachother tommorow!"
Everyone looks around at eachother slightly scared. Its basically a huge set up for embarrassment. I raise my hand and ask if we have to. "It will be a great friendship building exercise, also itll be fun! So yes, it is required."

By the time the announcement is over, everyone has a cup of tea on their desk. Yuri was so quiet that nobody had noticed that she passed it out. I take a sip of the tea and its the vest tea i had ever tasted, even though i dont drink much tea. Natsuki also passes out the cupcakes and they are also amazing. I compliment both of them for the food and neither reply. Towards the end of the meeting i go up to yuri and thank her for the tea and compliment her hair. She gets a little flustered before responding with a thank you and that my eyes are pretty, which i cant tell she immediately regrets, although i find it really cute. I ask what kind of stuff she likes reading to try and make small talk and she just stays quiet and says "really anything, but i prefer things where it has a deeper meaning, sometimes even horror as long as i can dive into it" she says before going back to being her shy self "horror? I didnt expect that from you, yuri." I can hear monika say from behind me. Yuri gets embarrassed and walks away to put back the kettle. Monika announces that club is over and i walk to find my things as everyone is already leaving. Monika stays and waits for me though. As we make our way out she asks if me and yuri were flirting back there while giggling. I immediately say no, embarrassed, and say i was just complimenting her tea and trying to make friends. She giggles as if she doesnt believe me and walks away. I make it out of school and sayori was waiting out the doors for me and asks if we can "walk home together like old times"
I dont want to be rude, so i agree. We walk home and she asks a ton of questions that i dont answer, i wouldnt be able to any way, as i was zoned out the entire time. I snap back to reality as shes waving her hand infront of my face asking if im listening, and she realised that i was zoned out so i dont explain myself. By then, we're already home anyway. I wave her good bye, and she skips into her house, but i can clearly see her stop right after she thinks shes out of my view, i think i also saw her smile drop— wonder what thats about. I dont think too hard on that though, maybe shes just tired. I make my way to my front door and try to find my key. I finally get the right one and walk in, unsurprisingly, nobodys home yet. I walk into my room and sit at the desk. "𝘚𝘰.. 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘦𝘮.." I dont know 𝘩𝘰𝘸 to write a poem.. What did monika say yuri likes again.. Ill remember eventually.
