Monster Hunter: Keys To The Kingdom.

Summary:

A boy whose home was lost to Darkness, chosen by an oversized magic key.

A Rider and his Palico companion, ripped from their World by those very same forces.

In Donald's perfect timeline, the latter would've stayed in Traverse Town while himself and Goofy brought the Key to King Mickey.

Unfortunately for him, a 2-and-a-half-ton, flying, fire-breathing apex super-predator makes for a VERY compelling counter-arguement.

At least Sora's got someone to actually teach him how to swing a sword...

Notes:

Full disclosure, I've never played Kingdom Hearts myself, and am using Riku's VA's (autocorrect is NOT playing nice with his last name) playthrough + the manga as my guides.

Chapter 1: Prologue: Sky High Dive.

Chapter Text

Humans.

A crowd of people stampede through the crowded streets of Hakum Village, parents clutching terrified children as mounted guards urge them onwards, scaly mounts hissing and snarling at the unknown threat.

Monsters.

What has caused such a panic soon becomes clear, as a sea of void-black pours from seemingly every crack and shadow, broken up by painfully bright yellow eyes.

A wave of flames cuts off the flood from its would-be victims, two wyverns roaring in outrage as they dive forwards, each carrying a Palico and an armored, grim-faced Rider.

Separately, formidable.

The larger of the two beasts snarls as more flames fly from it's jaws, only stopping at a pat on the neck from it's Rider.

The mighty beast is urged upwards with a shout, a blue glow exploding to life around a gauntlet-cloaked wrist, golden sparks flying from tan fur.

Together? Almost Unstoppable.

The Rathalos reaches the zenith of his climb, taloned foot outstretched as it dives, the King Of The Sky bursting into flames, powerful body cloaked in the outline of a massive white dragon.

There's only one choice when Destiny calls.

The beast's attack lands in a massive, spiraling inferno, accompanied by white-hot blasts of pure electricity, the trio within vanishing in a burst of golden light.

Grab on and hold tight,

The blaze dies down, it's source nowhere to be found.

Days pass, the three desperately searched for by grateful survivors and worried friends.

Worlds away, a crowd of people flock around a still-smoking crater.

A slit-pupiled eye opens, a fang-filled mouth frees another roar.

For the ride of your life.

Rewrote this damn thing 3 fucking times and I'm still somewhat unhappy with how it turned out.
