Chapter Text

Amy could barely control her manic laughter as she felt her hammer collide with the large creature in front of her, stunning it. Somehow一although it was likely adrenaline, when she thought about it afterwards一 her wounds barely hurt. As Amy ran away, she could see a green light in the corner of her eye. It must’ve been Cream, a young girl she and the other members of the group took under their care. While Cream couldn’t fight, her skills shone in her method of support. Cream was a truly remarkable healer, using magic in order to almost entirely cure a person’s wounds.

“Look out!” warned a voice, though it was quickly followed by a high pitch shriek.
Amy snapped out of her daze and hurried toward the commotion, readying her hammer once again. Rounding the corner, she sees the same creature from earlier reaching for Cream as she scrambled up a flight of stairs, sobbing. Knowing she had only a few seconds, Amy hurled her hammer at the creature, hearing a loud thud as she reopened her eyes. To her horror, instead of her monstrous foe, the hammer had struck the little girl Amy had been trying to protect head-on.

“Cream!!” Amy cried out, rushing over. “Oh, Cream! I’m so sorry! I’m sorry!”

Clutching the rabbit’s small body, Amy held Cream tightly to herself as she stood. The creature had not moved from where it stood, observing the two girls with what seemed to be amusement. Backing away slowly, Amy kept her eyes on it as she moved, preparing to react at even the smallest movement. Distantly, she heard the pitter-patter of shoes picking up speed. Her eyes brightened. Sonic surely would be coming to save them! The shuddering breaths of the frail child in her arms kept Amy further alert. She couldn’t afford to become distracted with the risks it posed to Cream’s life, which一as Amy noted shamefully一seemed to be on thin line between this side and the other. As the footsteps came closer, Amy prepared herself to pass the young rabbit to Sonic.

“Sonic! Catch!” she shouted as she turned to throw Cream.
For a moment, she worried she had mistimed her throw, but the blue blur that immediately grabbed the little girl and disappeared down another corridor sent a wave of relief through Amy’s whole body. At least, until a large hand came down on her shoulder, turning her around.
