Ken had been right. The cherry biome was beautiful.

Wifies had gotten here last (he’d spent about 15 minutes looking for his favourite pair of jeans before giving up and throwing some sweats on), and he could see Ken and Wato in the distance bickering as they set up the area.

He found himself smiling, hurrying up a bit more. Wato was right of course. He couldn’t remember the last time they’d all hung out, even though they were on the same server.

“Hey guys.” He said once he got closer, pulling a hand out of his pockets for a small wave.

“Hey!” Ken exclaimed, at the same time as Wato went “dude!” and then immediately started complaining because Ken had dropped his end of the blanket they were laying out.

Ken skipped over and bumped his shoulder, dragging him forwards. Wato abandoned the fabric as well and they all piled into one of their classic group hugs.

Wifies’ chest was warm, and his smile was already hurting his face and it hadn’t even been five minutes.

He was immediately dragged into setting things up (Wato nearly shoved Ken off the cliff of the mountain they were on before he’d intervened), against his will, but it was hard to really mind when the sun was high in the sky and there were birds chirping somewhere in the trees’ branches.

They all settled down, Wifies tucked in the middle like he always was, and Ken chattered on about the cookies he’d made, arm linked with Wifies. On his other side, Wato had his arm draped over him so it could settle across his and Ken’s connected shoulders.

Parrot was his best friend, yes, but these were his Best Friends. And Wifies wouldn’t trade them for the world.

***

After the second chunk ban he’d been in on this server, Wifies was mercifully put in a cell with Kenadian.

He was still shaking, but this wasn’t the first time it had happened, so he didn’t feel as terrible as before.

He’d tried messaging Parrot as soon as he could, but his comm glitched and the messages didn’t go through. Judging by the way the indicator went off over and over again on Parrot’s contact, he figured the avian was trying the exact same thing.

As soon as Ken had seen him (and the state he was in), he had dragged him into a makeshift base and held him in his arms without a word.

Wifies didn’t fall apart completely like he had on Parrot the first time, but he certainly wasn’t calm.

“Are you ok?” His friend asked a bit later, when they’d pulled away and leaned against the wall.

Wifies sighed. “I will be.”

“Ok. Well we can stay here until one of us gets rotated out.” Ken replied simply.

“Rotated?” Wifies asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

“Yeah. Every couple hours or so we get moved around into different cells.” Ken explained.

Wifies had mixed feelings on this. On one hand, he would have to leave Ken. On the other, he would see Parrot again (and by that logic, he would probably see Ken again anyway).

“Hm.” He pursed his lips. “This sucks.” He complained, head thunking against the wood wall. “I hate being trapped in places. I might as well just break through all that obsidian with my bare hands.”

Ken snorted. “There’s way too many layers and chunk bans for that.”

Wifies had to take a second to process what he’d said. He looked over at him, confused. “How do you know that?” He asked.

Ken went very still, and was suddenly looking everywhere but him. But Wifies knew him very well (better than anyone really. except maybe Wato), and he knew exactly what to do to get him to spill.

Ken.” He said firmly, and that was all it took.

“Okay fine! I was commissioned to design this place, but I didn’t know that I or you and Parrot would be getting thrown in!” He exclaimed. “I swear I’ll try to convince the guards to let you out-“

Wifies was already standing, vision blurring. He couldn’t believe-

“Wifies-“ Ken started to stand as well, reaching for him, but the aforementioned was stumbling out of the wood shack and running off as far as he could.

~~~
Eventually, he’d come to his senses, and thought about it more.
He knew Ken would never purposefully put him in a prison, unless given explicit permission. He also knew Ken was susceptible to peer pressure, and he may not have even wanted to build this place anyway, but got forced into it.
Ken was stubborn. That was one key thing about him. He might have wanted to test out some new mechanics, or had been challenged on his knowledge, or anything else that had taken over his brain that he felt the need to prove. The people on this server were manipulative. It wasn’t his fault.
Wifies had been going to search for him again, but when he came out of his hiding place (a small cave that had virtually no ores in it), there was a guard waiting for him, and his determination drained out of him. He’d slumped, muttered an “oh,” and than the guard was ushering him to the hole-in-the-wall exit. So much for making amends.
Getting rotated around the prison got old very fast.
He was glad to see Parrot again (and also that he never ran into Wato, which meant he wasn’t stuck in here too).
He did get put in a cell with Ken again, but the cat hybrid hid away from him the whole time and guilt ate away at Wifies like a parasite.
They got out though. They were out, and Parrot landed in front of them without Ken and a weird look on his face, and then Ken wasn’t coming out what do you mean he’s not coming, he can’t- he needed to-
They were going to his base. They were in the base and finding a trapdoor and Parrot flip it already-
Kenadian materialized in front of the group with a pop, and Wifies barrelled through everyone else (accidentally shoving Parrot into the wall, but he’ll apologize for that later) and threw his arms around him.
“You absolute idiot, why would you do that!?” Wifies cried, voice cracking.
“Wifies-“ Ken started. Wifies shook him.
“I can’t believe you! Sacrificing yourself?! I’m going to go find Wato and we’re going to stay together for a week, Kenadian. A week. I’m never letting you go again, and- and-“ Wifies rambled.
The others were quiet. Ken put his arms around him. “Wifies.” He murmured weakly.
“I’m so mad at you. You- I’m so glad you’re ok.” He sobbed. “Never ever do that again, you stupid man- you idiot-“ Wifies hunched over, burying his face in the taller’s shoulder and cried.
Kenadian held him tighter and muttered apologies into his hair. “I’m sorry.” He whispered. “For everything.”
Wifies couldn’t sleep.
The End was cold and dark and barren, and he couldn’t sleep. Parrot was sprawled on his stomach snoring, one wing hanging off the bed and the other practically in Wifies’ face where he was pressed against the wall.
He hated the End, but he would put up with it for as long as he needed to. He just wished he could sleep.
He grumbled and sat up, gently pushing Parrot’s wing off and folding it loosely on his back. The avian shifted and it slipped down again. So much for trying.
Wifies scooted down to the foot of the bed and slid off, feet hitting the freezing floor. He shuddered, took one last look at his friend still sleeping, and slipped out of the room.
He shoved his hands in his pocket as he made his way through the white castle walls, humming to himself, if only to not be stuck in static silence.
When he stepped out of the building, the void pressed in on him on all sides. Automatically, he shrunk in on himself and kept his eyes to the endstone. He focused on the sound of his boots hitting it over and over again as he walked, and eventually, he relaxed.
He made his way through the streets until he found Ken and Wato’s house, and went inside without knocking. The living room was dark, like everything else was. Wifies let out a shaky little sigh.
He crept down the hall and peered into the only room with a closed door. Ken and Wato were both curled up against one another, dead asleep.
Wifies didn’t even feel a hint of hesitation or unsureness before crossing the room and crawling into bed with them.
Immediately, both men made space for him, grabbing at him and pulling him in and tucking him under their blankets and arms. Somewhere under the covers, one tail draped across his waist, and the other wrapped loosely around a leg.
“Y’ok?” Ken mumbled, and then yawned.
“Mmf.” Wifies huffed.
Wato reached up and ruffled his hair roughly. “Not an answer.” He muttered. He buried his head in Wifies’s shoulder and pillow.
“Yeah Wifies.” Ken giggled deliriously. He head butted the aforementioned’s shoulder.
“Go back to sleep.” Both Wifies and Wato chorused. Ken grumbled something about them not being any fun and promptly passed out.
Wato poked Wifies’ arm and gave him a pointed stare. Wifies sighed. “I’m fine.” He said. “I just couldn’t sleep.”
“Hm.” Wato huffed. “You better be telling the truth.”
“I am.”
“Okay, whatever you say.”
They went quiet. Wifies could feel Wato nodding off again and then shaking himself awake.
“You don’t have to wait till I fall asleep.” Wifies reminded him.
Wato hummed, seeming to consider this. He turned his head slightly and pressed a small kiss to his shoulder. “G’night Wifies.” He slurred.
“Goodnight.” Wifies murmured.
***
When Wifies trudged into the Farlands Farmer faction base for the first time and saw Ken and Wato sitting at the table, the only thing he could muster up to do was just start crying.
His two friends panicked, rushing over to him and demanding what was wrong, who hurt him, what can we do to help.
Wifies simply curled up in their arms and cried for a long, long time. He could feel his friend’s concerned glances and the way they were definitely having a silent conversation over his head, but he didn’t care about any of that right now.
His hands started to tingle. Because they were closed, it didn’t take long for that tingle to turn into a burn.
Wifies let out a choked whine and forced them open. Immediately, light spilled into the air, and then a gold ingot was clattering to the ground, and then a loaf of bread, a healing potion, a book, and so on, so on.
One hand rubbed his back and another stroked his hair.
He hated this stupid power, and it always reared it’s head whenever he got really upset like this. He couldn’t even just choose not to create things, because his hands would just keep hurting forever until he opened them, for his power was only able to work when they were open.
Ken and Wato were murmuring reassurances to him, but he could hardly hear them over his own shaky breaths and sobs.
And the items wouldn’t stop coming. More gold, some copper, two amethyst shards (haha, very funny), three loafs of bread, a piece of cheese (“Heh, we should make a sandwich after this.” Ken joked, and Wifies choked on a surprised laugh before sniffling and sobbing again.), an ink sac, a lightning rod, a bucket of pufferfish(???), and it didn’t stop.
Eventually though, Wifies tore away from his friends and promptly threw up. His power was unpredictable and did what it liked, and it made him nauseous when he used it too much, even though he couldn’t stop using it.
Thankfully, that seemed to be the end of it though. A couple more pitiful spurts of light (a sponge, two glass panes) and it stopped. Wifies sighed, relieved. His mouth tasted disgusting, his head hurt and he was a bit dizzy, but it was over.
Wato and Ken kneeled down next to him, careful to not get their knees in throw-up. “Hey.” Wato murmured, stroking his hair. Ken leaned on his other side. “How’re you feeling?”
Wifies grunted, rubbing his eyes. Wow, suddenly he was really tired.
His friends let him sit there and recuperate while they cleaned up (though they took turns, and one of them was always sitting by his side which warmed his heart) until the mess was all gone, and then they dragged him out of the building and into what was apparently their house.
Later, Wifies would go to find Parrot and apologize (he would spend the rest of his life waiting if he had too). Later, they would all prepare for the Mafia. Later, things would fall apart again.
But right now, buried under a truly absurd amount of blankets and with his Best Friends flanking him on either side, Wifies felt a lot lighter than he had in the past few days. He was safe.
