Chapter Text
Sage sat on the empty bench outside the medical bay, staring blankly into the ground.
Every bit of life was drained out of her.
Everything was numb.
The monk’s hair was a mess. Her skin was at this point almost as pale as Viper’s. The worst was her crystallized arms, neck, hands, and face. Though Miks’s remedies helped, every movement was still plagued with discomfort. If she dared to touch or inspect them, she’d be punished with a stinging pain, a sharp reminder of the dire consequences when interfering with the natural balance of the universe.
Skye walked out of the infirmary; her peaceful gaze fixed on the healer. She gently knelt in front of her to get a better look at her crystals.
“Are they ok?” Sage asked.
One could feel the exhaustion in her tone.
“Are you, okay?” Skye asked back.
“Yes, I’m fine!” Sage replied with a slight annoyance in her voice, like a child answering an over worried parent.
The Aussie reached into her pocket and pulled out a snack bar. She gently placed it into Sage’s hand.
“You should be depleted. All that resurrecting has taken a toll on ya’. Plus, on the way back, you were having a panic atta-”
“I’m fine!” Sage said again cutting off the initiator. Her stubbornness had a death grip on her.
“Are they okay?” Sage mustered up again, trying to steer the conversation in another direction.
“Yeah. They’re stable. Miks is looking after them right now.” Skye replied ever so delicately.
“Ling Ying, the others and I have decided to take you out of the front lines. And you shall take as long of a rest until you can return to normal strength.” Skye said with a soft voice, her eyes locked with Sage’s.
“But-" Sage protested with furrowed eyebrows but was immediately cut off by the redhead.
“No buts. I tell you what, we’ll wait for the commander to get back on his feet, and you can discuss with him on how to deal with this, alright?” Skye replied, standing firmly on her request.
All Sage had left was a slight nod of acceptance.
“Let’s get you back to your bed, somewhere more comfortable perhaps?” Skye suggested.
She gingerly wrapped one of Sage’s arms around her neck and gently hoisted her onto both feet. The trek back to the monk’s room was long, and all they could do now is one step at a time.
“How’s Alex?” Sage asked as they strolled.
“Since it was an arrow to the head, I say he needs a little more time than the others.” Skye answered earnestly.
Sage’s facial expression sunk immediately, unable to hide her sadness.
“Hey hey hey, it’s alright, it’s alright. You did the best you could out there.” Skye said trying to comfort the healer.
The two moved slowly through the halls as they headed towards the sentinel’s personal quarters.
