Notes:

Hi! It's my first fanfic after YEARS so if you spot any mistakes let me know.

Also my English still needs a lot of polishing so again, if any mistakes are spotted don't be afraid to point it out.

Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The light outside the mansion was dimmed, as always. It was foggy, dark, making everyone skin crawl. The land was cursed, no one beside lord Black Hat hasn’t lived here for long. He made this once happy, full of color land to be dull, ugly and cold, just like he is himself. Another day is coming, as it was visible by the way a little of sunlight was coming through the fog. A sight. Tired and pained sight. Her hair was flipped behind her ear, put into a bun. The pen she held fell flat on a desk. She brushes her face with her hands. Although the sun just awoken, creatures living in the manor are already going around. She can hear their footsteps, their whispers. It seems nothing is asleep in this building. Then, she hears the alarm. Another sight followed by a scrape of her chair.

“I guess that is our start of the day.” now the fog become thicker, almost sensing her morning mood. Quick look to the right confirms her suspicion about the hour. Perfectly spot on 5 am. Doctor wakes up early and with him almost everything in that estate. Almost. She decided to pick up the document that was laying on the desk and went straight to huge door that was leading to exit of room. Her office is fancy, but nothing special. Simple office, with books, desk and some shelfs, where flowers were blooming. Only things blooming in this dark land. It's a perfect place to hide and focus on job she was meant to do. Job that kept her all night up. On the desk, just slightly before the old stationary telephone there is a badge, shining just because of the candle light. It contains the name. Her full name. Footsteps and screams erupted from behind the door. She decided to open it and stand close to the railings in front of her office door.

“Demencia come back! It’s not a time for you to be running around the manor!” a man with a paper bag on head had run straight into a corridor under her. She could see him clearly, but decided to join him by going down the stairs. Gentle smile greets her lips when he is close enough. He looks stressed, also tired. The scratch marks on his collar tells her he is fighting her for quite a time.

“Morning, Doctor. I can see you have a very productive day ahead of you.” a smirk formed her lips now. The Doctor turned around, it seemed like he was in shock to see his colleague so early up. He frowned.

“Good morning, miss. It’s nice to have your support so early in the morning.” a sneer, making her giggle a little. Her hand fell on his shoulder. “Will it be too much for me to ask you for a hand in catching her before lord Black Hat notices that she is wandering in such an important day?” his hand wrapped around the one on his shoulder. She patted him and took a step forward, closing the distance between them.

“But of course, my dear friend. I will gladly lend you my services. After all, I am a perfect person to fetch a lizard hybrid.” he didn’t appreciate the sarcasm in her tone but before he had a chance to speak up he heard rattle above him, somewhere where the offices are. Looking up he noticed a female, hanging from the railing. She snickered, looking straight at the secretary, standing just next to him. His hands flew up, to protect his colleague, even though he knew that won’t work. He closed his eyes, ready for an impact from lizard girl’s body. He heard loud smack on the floor beside him. “Okay, now drag her somewhere where she is supposed to be. I have an form from our client and I need to give it to sir Black Hat”. he opened his eyes, shocked to discovered that jinx laying limp on the floor. Her lips opened up.

“You bitch, there is no way you will be going near my darling!” she wheezed. Doctor looked up at his colleague to see her throwing him his weapon. His air gun. Demencia got shot and her body became paralyzed for a while. He better start moving, before she gains feeling of her limbs. One of his hands grabbing her leg.

“Well, thank you. Now I’m positive my insides won’t be turned inside out.” his hand patted his paper bag. “The meeting is at 12 sharp. Make sure everything is spot on or we are doomed.” a laugh escaped the hybrid. Doctor sent her a nasty look, making sure she could see it. It was a little warning.

“Sure, doc. Now, as I said, I need to give our lord his so wanted form. Thumbs up for me. Oh, and surely for you.” the secretary went past them after sending them last look, going to the heart of the mansion. To his office. She still could hear whining of the hybrid, the jealousy spilling from her on the polished floor. The closer she got, the louder Demencia would become. Now she felt the need for quiet. She knew her quiet days are over, the symbol of that tattooed on her left arm. The feeling of being someone’s possession always made her want to vomit. It would be nice to finally be herself, not a part of machinery. Huge, gothic door was standing on her way. Throat of the lady went dry, and her body stopped. It was a habit. Very ugly one. Her boss was a terrifying eldritch creature, speaking in languages she didn’t understand. What’s important is that he has a power to control, manipulate and destroy. Being in his presence is close to being painfully tortured. Everyone living here knew it, maybe besides Demencia, who is known for being obsessively in love with the creature. She knocked at the door before opening it. No time for thinking. He could hear her heartbeat anyway. He knew she is here. “Good Moring, lord. I have completed the document from our most loyal client. All ready for today’s meeting at 12 pm.” she managed to say fully, without a single mistake and stutter. He was sitting in his big chair, not facing her. The horror of being in this room made her body shiver and heartbeat stronger. He noticed and chuckled.

“Something else, dear?” he rasped, still not looking at her. The shivers went down her spine after hearing his words. The sentence stuck down her throat. There was so much she wanted to say, ask. A lot of documents to discuss. She couldn’t. She never could. “You need a dress for today’s meeting. You and something appropriate for our beloved Doctor.” then silence. The chair made a faint sound when he decided to face her. “I hope she was detained.” the sharpness in his eye made her face drop of color. He already knew. He always knew everything, no matter how much covering it up.

“She was, sir. Of course she was. She won’t bother us at the meeting” demonic laugh escaped him.

“I sure hope so, miss. Wouldn’t want to punish anyone today. I have an exceptionally good mood.” he took the document from the edge of the fancy desk. “Perfect, you better get going. I want you ready at 12. No room for mistakes. Understood?” she nodded, more than once. "Dismissed" making small steps backwards she started withdrawing from the room, still keeping an eye contact with The Creature. When the door was reached, she sprinted out. His laugh taunting her even after the door slammed shut.
