Chapter Text
After the Hosu Incident, it was time for their final exams. Izuku—and everyone else, really—got so caught up in studying that they didn’t really think to talk about the internships. Almost everyone passed the exams, though, and even those who didn’t still got to go to the training camp!
The trip to the mall was scary. Truthfully, Izuku had been hoping to never see Shigaraki again. Although, considering One for All, that was unlikely. Izuku swore he’d seen Time at the mall. His eye was trained on Shigaraki as he held a blue instrument that Izuku later identified as an ocarina. Izuku wasn’t quite sure if it really was him, but--either way--it helped him stay calm during the entire encounter.
Now, all Izuku wanted was to just have a nice, fun summer camp with his friends.
Izuku stared in horror at the villain before him. Kota was behind him, safe (for now, whispered a voice in his mind). Izuku...wasn’t ready to deal with a villain yet. He could barely use 5% and against a villain like Muscular? It wouldn’t do much.
The only way he would be able to save Kota was to either distract Muscular or break himself in order to stop him...A purple swirling portal appeared behind Muscular...Or Izuku could get help from the most heroic people he knew.
Out of the portal stepped a force of chaos to be reckoned with, the one person Izuku could think of who would be able to get him out of this mess, the Hero of the Wilds. He stepped out of the portal, bold and confident. Even after seeing Muscular, he didn’t hesitate.
Wild locked eyes with Izuku and pulled out his bow. He drew it, an arrow with a strange red pouch at the end aimed directly at Muscular. The villain didn’t notice, too busy focusing on Kota and Izuku. The arrow flew high, and the second it hit Muscular, an explosion rang out across the mountains. The spell of silence was broken and Muscular turned around, ready to strangle whoever was behind him.
Wild pulled out his paraglider and a burst of wind shot him upwards. Muscular looked around confusedly before spotting him, a little too late though, because Wild had (somehow???) pulled out a bomb and dropped it on top of Muscular. It exploded on top of him, tearing away at the shield of muscle around him.
The villain laughed arrogantly and started monologuing again, but Izuku couldn’t process what he was saying. Wild was gliding towards him and Kota, a bottle in hand. He tossed it towards them, pulling out his bow again, this time with an icy blue arrow.
Izuku caught the bottle, not quite understanding what it was. It was empty apart from a little...bug? inside. The bug was glowing and—now that Izuku looked closer—it looked more human-like than anything. Like a tiny human with wings...that could glow. Why was Wild keeping them in a bottle?
Izuku felt a tug on his shirt, and he turned to face Kota, who was also looking at the bottle curiously. “What is that?” he asked. Izuku hesitated. He wasn’t quite sure what it was, but...Wild was a Hero; it was probably something that would help them if he gave it away.
“I’m not quite sure.” Muttered Izuku, not wanting to draw the attention of Muscular.
Kota scrunched his nose, looking up at the fight before them. “Who’s that guy fighting the villain?”
Izuku smiled at the question. Now that was something he could answer. “That’s Wild, he’s a Hero. He’s totally gonna kick Muscular’s butt.” On one hand, he knew Kota hated heroes but on the other hand, Izuku could never stop himself from bragging about the Chain! They were just so cool, maybe even cooler than All Might.
Izuku turned back to Wild and instead saw someone who looked similar but had white hair and markings on his face similar to Time’s. He wore armor and had a peculiar sword in his hand that had the same colors as his outfit. Once Izuku looked more closely, he noticed he had Wild’s Sheikah Slate. Was this just an outfit change?
There was a battle cry, and two simultaneous explosions went off, launching the person into the sky. That sure was Wild. Three arrows flew at once, going straight towards Muscular. Two hit his face, while one hit directly at his good eye. One instinct, Izuku put his hand over Kota’s eyes. This was a bit graphic for the kid.
Izuku looked down the cliff, bright blue fire was engulfing the forest. They should leave. They should leave and get Aizawa-sensei or maybe just find a safe place without villains. Wild was strong but if other villains found them, Izuku wasn’t sure they could take them all down. He had to help end this fight now so they could go.
Muscular was thrashing; he was blind now that Wild hit his eyes, he was at a disadvantage. But he was also more dangerous. His attacks were calculated before; now it was just pure, unadulterated rage they were up against. Muscular was strong, his quirk made him almost impossible to beat. He would win in a long, drawn-out fight. The only way to beat him was to overwhelm his quirk so he couldn’t regenerate enough muscle in time.
If Izuku were alone, this would have been much harder. But he wasn’t. He had—objectively—the most overpowered person in Chain. Wild had multiple types of weapons and bombs he could use. Yes, there was a good chance the only way to get Muscular out of the fight was to—to kill him but...Izuku was valuing his survival—Kota’s survival—Wild’s survival—over that of a villain.
Izuku readied himself. He handed the bottle to Kota and, holding on to One for All, to the power coursing through his veins, he—
“Damn kid, I wasn’t gonna kill you till I knew where that Bakugo brat was at, but after that—"
Izuku froze—the League was after Kacchan. The League was after Kacchan. Izuku stopped himself from having a crisis about that when—Wild got thrown down by Muscular, then slammed against the side of the cliff. Izuku winced. He needed to help Wild now.
“Kota, stay away from Muscular. Don’t run off on your own, but me and Wild can handle this, so just stay safe.”
And with that, Izuku launched himself at Muscular using One for All. He tried his best to restrain the power so he wouldn’t break his bones but when he hit Muscular, the villain didn’t even get a scratch. Wild got up when he wasn’t looking, though, and an arrow hit Muscular, the villain seized and twitched when he got hit.
Izuku shot a glance at Wild, he was scratched up and bleeding a little, but he shot Izuku a grin anyway. He pulled out his bow one more time, this time with one of the bomb arrows. He hit Muscular straight in the face, then chucked two bombs at him, one round, one square, and detonated them. Wild shot Izuku a look that kinda felt like your turn.
Izuku concentrated; the only way to beat Muscular was to use One for All at 100%. He knew it would hurt; he knew he would shatter his arm. That didn’t matter, all that mattered was beating Muscular and keeping Kota safe.
There was electricity filling Izuku’s body, and while Muscular was recovering from the explosions, Izuku punched him—hard. Immediately, Izuku was filled with pain, and he was unable to move his arm, but the impact pushed Muscular back and all the hits must have been too much, because the villain passed out.
Izuku collapsed on the ground, sitting motionless. He heard footsteps approaching, but he didn’t have the energy to turn around and see who it was.
“Whoa, Greenie, I didn’t know you could do that!” Wild exclaimed from behind him. He crouched down, next to Izuku and— “Hey, kiddo, you can come out, the villain’s down.” Then he muttered, “For now.”
Kota walked up to them and stood in front of Izuku, he looked worried. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah—I’m fine.”
A hand reached up and smacked him on the head, “No, you’re not—Hylia, you’re worse than Rulie.” Wild looked at Kota. “Hey, little guy, can you hand me that bottle back?”
Kota looked down at his hands, he had been rolling the bottle back and forth in his hands. The—person? Animal? Bug? —thing inside looked a bit disoriented, and Wild sent it a sympathetic look. Kota handed him the bottle with a small, “Okay.”
Wild whispered to the thing before opening up the bottle. The thing flew up to Izuku and danced around his arm. He felt bones shift and a weird tingly feeling went through his arm until—until the purple bruising was gone and Izuku felt...fine?
“What the—”
“It’s a fairy.” Wild said, while the thing—fairy flew back into the bottle. “You can catch them and they’ll heal you from injuries, and then you can let them go. This one’s home is kinda far, though, so I’ll help her make the trip back.”
“Woah.” Kota stared at the fairy curiously. Wild smiled.
“You wanna carry her?” Kota nodded excitedly, “Alright, just don’t shake her around too much, she’s tired.” Then Wild got up and offered Izuku a hand. “Okay, next plan of action, where are we—”
A groan from behind them distracted Wild; it was Muscular. Before Izuku could even power up One for All again, Wild had pulled out a bow and shot Muscular. Ice covered the villain's body and it spread without stopping, keeping him trapped. Then, Wild pulled out his Slate, and a weird, yellow glow appeared over the villain.
“That’ll keep him trapped for a while. Where are we going next?”
“The base camp, that’s where I’ll drop off Kota, then we need to get to Mandalay to tell her the villains are after Kacchan.”
“Right.” Wild nods, “Let’s go.”
The trek back to the base camp wasn’t too hard. Wild and Kota were tired but Izuku felt refreshed after that fairy healed him. He slowed his pace, though, so Wild and Kota could keep up with him. While they were walking somewhat aimlessly, they stumbled across Aizawa-sensei.
“Aizawa-sensei!”
“Midoriya—” Aizawa paused, looking at Wild and Kota, who were trailing behind Izuku. “Who is that?” He pulled out his capture weapon, readily aimed at Wild.
Meanwhile, the Hero just raised his hands in an I’m innocent gesture.
“Oh, right! This is Wild, he’s...a friend of mine.”
Aizawa raised an eyebrow, “And how did he get inside the training camp? How are you sure he’s not working with the villains? What’s his quirk?”
Izuku paused, trying to find a way to explain exactly who Wild is when— “He saved us! He’s a hero, and he saved us from the man who killed my parents!” Kota ran in front of Aizawa, hands out like he’s ready to stop the teacher from attacking Wild.
Wild just stood there, sort of aimlessly. A strand of hair fell on his face, and a look of realization crossed his face. “Wait, I’m still in the Fierce Deity outfit.” He said sort of blankly. Izuku, Kota, and Aizawa gave him a look, but Wild just pulled out his Slate, clicked a few buttons, and he was back in his regular outfit in a jiffy.
Izuku stared at him for a second before turning back to Aizawa. “Right, Muscular attacked us on the cliff, but with the help of Wild, we managed to take him down. He revealed that the villains are after Kacchan!”
Aizawa stared at Wild a little longer before finally turning to Izuku. “You’ll have to tell me about him later. For now, go tell Mandalay so she can warn the others.” He paused. “Midoriya, don’t forget Hosu, you can’t just fight villains without the authorization to use your quirk,” He sighed, “That’s why I need you to tell Mandalay something for me too.”
