Stacy Hopps had always been an intelligent young woman. Ever since she was a child, she managed to impress everyone with her ability to solve problems and puzzles no kid at her age could.
In middle school, she managed to achieve all the first place prizes and trophies that showed off her incredible academic skills.
However, none of it ever mattered to her parents or anyone else.
All of the attention went to her older sister.

But her parents somehow encouraged it, despite agreeing with Stacy many times.
Needless to say, Judy proved everyone wrong and got accepted into the Zootopia Police Academy, making their parents focus on that instead of her winning first place in her junior high robotics program.
No worries, she could still manage to make up by acing her mini mechanics contest.
Nope, her parents couldn’t see her winning first place because they had to attend Judy’s graduation from the academy.

Her parents went to see Judy solving her first case and receiving an award for saving the city.

Nope, the whole time her parents ended up worrying about Judy and celebrate on her solving her second case.
Stacy was heartbroken and shattered.
The one time she wanted her day to be about HER, still ended up having it taken away by Judy.
Despite her parents constant apologies and promises that they would make it up to her eventually, it all meant nothing to her.
That was the final straw.
All she did was rent an inn room cry the whole day.
Of course, the little friends she had tried their best to cheer her up by doing the things they liked to do when they were younger.
It did help. But the wound of having your own family completely ignore you and your accomplishments hurt a lot more.
From then on, Stacy finally realized in her own mind.
This was all Judy’s fault.
Judy took away everything from her.
She hated Judy with such a burning passion that she was willing to do anything to get some revenge.
After a few weeks, the perfect opportunity came.
It was almost her 18th birthday.
This gave Stacy a massive idea as she knew exactly what to do.
The day of her birthday arrived and her parents promised they would make her whatever she wanted. And what she wanted was a birthday party with all the family members involved.
Especially Judy.
Thankfully, Judy was approved the day off to come and visit.
Stacy hoped for this, as she and her parents were waiting on the train station for the duo while Stacy stayed waiting behind her parents.
Bonnie turned around and gave her an apologetic look. “Honey. I’m so so sorry we didn’t get to be there sometimes… but I hope we can at the very least make up with this.”
“Yeah, right.” Stacy thought to herself.
However, she kept her cool and just nodded. “It’s fine. As long as I get lots of presents.”
Stu snickered. “With the amount of people coming. I’m sure you will.”
Just then, the train had arrived and all of the passengers were getting off.
That’s when she saw her.
Judy.
Her oldest sister.
And also her biggest pain in the ass.
Judy smiled brightly and rushed towards them. “Mom! Dad!”
Both Stu and Bonnie took her in their arms as they all smiled while embracing each other.
Stacey just stood there, seething with rage on the inside. Even on her birthday, Judy can’t help but steal the affection. But of course, she shouldn’t be surprised anymore.
Judy let them go and smiled as she saw her sister. “Stacy!”
She ran and picked her up in a hug. “Oh, long time no see!”
Stacy did her best to smile back and wrapped her arms around Judy. “Yeah. It’s been a while…”
Judy let her go and set her on her ground. “Look at you! You’re all grown up now!”
She placed her palm flat above Stacy’s head. “Look! We’re almost the same height!”
“Yeah. Almost.” Stacy almost flatly replied.
Judy then remembered. “Ooh! Stacy, I’d love for you to meet my friend and partner. Nick.”
Stacy then turned at saw Nick Wilde approaching. She was taken away for a second. His jade green eyes, his bright orange fur and his handsome appearance despite wearing such lousy clothes was enough to amaze her.
“Woah… so this is her partner.” Stacy thought to herself.
“Hello, there. You must be the birthday girl. Pleasure to meet ya.” Nick extended his paw with his signature smile.
Stacy smiled and held his paws to shake it. “Pleasure to meet you too. I’ve heard a lot of good things about you.”
Nick smirked and shrugged. “What can I say? The audience loves me.”
Judy and the rest let out a small chuckle at his joke. Even Stacy was a bit amused. She had to admit, Nick made a pretty good first impression.
He didn’t try to kiss ass or be overly polite like many other guys. He was just him. And that was more than enough.
“Let’s get going, shall we? It’s going to be a long day today.” Stu said, leading everyone back to the farm.
Stacy walked behind everyone as she couldn’t help but smile to herself. “Yup.. it sure will.”
A few hours later, the whole house was set up with balloons and decorations as food was prepared and snacks were set on the tables.
There stood Stacy behind her three stacked carrot cake with 18 candles set on top of it as everyone around her sang her happy birthday.
“Happy birthday to Stacy. Happy birthday to you!” Everyone finished singing before clapping at Stacy.
“Make a wish dear!” Bonnie happily exclaimed.
“I already got my wish.” Stacy thought to herself as closed her eyes and blew the candles.
Everyone cheered and clapped again as they stared celebrating the birthday girl.
The party went on as usual as one would expect. Kids played, adults talked about boring stuff, some snuck out to take a smoke, etc.
Stacy greeted and had a minimal conversation with everyone she could. But that was not important to her, for she already had a goal in mind.
She saw Judy hanging out with Nick as they talked with some of their relatives and siblings. Of course she’d still find a way to make it all about her. As if she didn’t knew her any better.
Stacy kept her composure and waited for the opportunity, but until then, she was a bit thirsty. So she went to the kitchen and get something to drink.
Once she got there she served herself a cup of soda until Nick came in with a plate covered in frosting and jumped a bit in surprise to find her there alone.
“Oh! Excuse me, where do you guys have the tissues? I got some frosting on my shirt.” Nick asked Stacy.
“Oh, right at the top cabinet on your left!” Stacy pointed out.
Nick nodded and opened the cabinet to find an extra roll of tissues. “Ah, thanks.”
Nick took the roll and went to the kitchen sink to wash the frosting off his shirt. Stacy noticed the wet shirt stuck to his abdomen, revealing his slightly toned form underneath his clothing.
Stacy glanced for a bit, noticing Nick clean himself up before throwing the tissues to the trash and turning to face her. She immediately looked away while holding her cup, not wanting to draw any attention.
“So, why are you here by yourself? You’re the birthday girl, why not go out and take it all in while it lasts?” Nick asked.
Stacy slightly widened her eyes, not expecting a conversation. “Oh… uh, I just came to get a drink. That’s all.”
Nick nodded. “Ah, I see.”
He then turned to the sink. “Oops, I forgot to wash my plate!”
Stacy then pointed at the machine next to the kitchen. “Oh, just let Darby handle it.”
“Darby?” Nick asked.
“Yeah, just place it there.” Stacy pointed at the machine.
Nick raised a brow but did as he was told. The machine then took the plate and washed it on its own with a scrub and dish soap in just a few seconds before putting it on the washed dishes tray.
Nick gasped. “Woah… where did you get this?”
“Oh, I made it.” Stacy said.
Nick raised his brow and turned to her while pointing at Darby. “YOU made this?”
Stacy blushed and nodded.
Nick shook his head. “No way! That’s pretty awesome!”
Stacy widened her eyes at the unexpected compliment. “R-Really?”
Nick eagerly nodded. “Yeah! Do you do this for a living or something?”
Stacy shook her head. “Oh, no. It’s just a silly little hobby of mine.”
Nick slightly frowned. “Oh, come on. This is not silly. This is very advanced for someone your age. You should do this for a job!”
Stacy glanced to the side. “Well, I did get accepted into Zootopia’s Academy for Robotics and Mechanics.”
Nick happily gasped. “That’s amazing! I know you’re going to ace it like a champ.”
Stacy was taken away. Never in her life did anyone get as excited as Nick did about her creations. Sure, her parents were impressed at first, but that eventually faded once the older kids showed better taste of their favorite work.
Nick, however, was fully invested. Something she didn’t really expected from the Fox, but she didn’t mind it at all.
“Thank you…” Stacy blushed.
Stacy then got interested in continuing. “So… you’re staying the night here?”
“Yup, Carrots said I can take the guest room in your house upstairs.” Nick replied.
“Carrots?” Stacy titled her head.
“Oh, that’s the nickname I gave Judy when we first met.” Nick explained.
Stacy nodded. “Ah, okay.”
She then had to know. “Are you… guys dating?”
Nick shook his head. “No. Despite what everyone says, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Stacy titled her head again. “Why’s that?”
Nick stayed quiet for a second. “I’d… rather not talk about that. It’s your birthday and I don’t want to make things awkward for you.”
Stacy raised her brow. For a moment, she felt flattered that Nick actually cared about her birthday and considered her feelings. But as much as she appreciated the concern, she needed to dig a little deeper.
“Oh, come on. How bad can it be? I am an adult already after all.” Stacy crossed her arms.
“Barely.” Nick joked.
Stacy giggled. “But the point still stands. Come on, I can keep a secret.”
Nick looked at her for a second before letting out a sigh. “It’s just… I don’t want to put her through more trouble than what she already has to deal with.”
Stacy slightly raised a brow as Nick leaned against the kitchen counter and continued.
“She already has to face a lot with being a cop and such. I don’t want to add more weight on her shoulders by dragging her into a controversial relationship where she’d have to face even more flack.” Nick confessed.
He looked down. “I don’t want her family to face any repercussions either or to look at her differently. Because she’s a rabbit… and I’m…”
“A fox?” Stacy finished.
Nick closed his eyes. “Yeah… a fox. I’ve already been through enough on my own. Having to be judged and discriminated just for my mere existence. With nobody even having the mental capacity that maybe I could be more.”
Stacy widened her eyes at how much the fox was letting her know. The fact that he was confessing a bit about his past like he did with Judy was actually brightening her spirit.
Not because she felt trusted, but because for once. Just once. Stacy felt understood.
Nick scoffed and shook his head. “Sorry, I don’t mean to trauma dump on you. It’s your birthday-”
Stacy immediately interrupted. “No! No! It’s okay, Nick! I understand you!”
Nick raised his brow and turned to her. “Really now?”
Stacy nodded. “Yes, I do… much more than you can imagine.”
She looked down and rubbed her arm. “I… also feel similar emotions like you do. But, instead I feel left out, ignored… dismissed.”
Nick then got concerned as he fully turned towards her. “Why do you say that?”
Stacy had to be cautious as to not reveal too much, but enough to form a small connection.
“Well… nobody really acknowledges intelligence nowadays. Everyone thinks it’s silly to be into robotics and such.” Stacy admitted.
“I build computers out of garbage, I make my own machines, I got accepted into a good college. Yet, nobody seems to appreciate my skills.” She continued.
Stacy then grit her eyes as angry tears started to form. “And apparently… that’s enough for people to find a reason to laugh at me. To mock me. To put me aside as if I mean nothing…”
For a second, Stacy’s act ended as she then broke down crying while covering her face in embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry, I don’t mean-”
Nick immediately went to reassure her by gently holding her arms. “Hey, hey. It’s okay.”
Stacy widened her eyes and looked up at Nick as he offered her a reassuring smile.

“I know it doesn’t seem like much right now, but when you graduate and start making your own big machines that those same people that mocked you start to use. You’ll see, that you were right all along. Besides…” Nick said before wiping her tears off her eyes.
“Never let them see they get you.” Nick finished with a smile.
Stacy looked up in complete awe. Her eyes sparkled at the sight of the handsome fox smiling down at her with a reassuring and optimistic expression.
Now she saw why Judy had him as her partner. Apart from handsome, he was caring, reassuring, and understanding. But most importantly, he related to her.
Never in a million years did she ever imagine she would find someone who could understand her. Let alone, know how to comfort and reassure her. Not even her parents or siblings knew how to get to her.

Stacy quickly wiped her eyes and let him go before turning to Judy. “Yeah… I was just showing him Darby and my other projects.”
Judy then smiled brightly. “Aww, that’s great!”
She then smirked at Nick and punched his shoulder. “Look at you. Getting to be part of the family already.”
Nick smirked back. “Wasn’t I already?”
Stacy couldn’t help but seethe on the inside. Just when she found someone who could comfort her and make her feel better, Judy had to come in and take it all away.

She almost forgot about her plan, but Judy walking in just reignited it and set her focus back on what really mattered.
Stacy nodded. “Right. I’ll be over there if you guys need me.”
Nick stopped her. “Oh, Stacy. Wait.”
Stacy turned around to see Nick pull out his wallet and hand her a $100 bill.
“I know it’s not much, but it’s the best I can give.” Nick said with a smile.
Stacy gasped. “Nick. It’s okay, you don’t have to.”
Nick rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on. Just take it. It’s the least I can do.”
Stacy looked at him for a second before taking the bill and smiling at him. “Thank you…”
She then turned around and went to her room. Stacy knew that her time to initiate was approaching and she had to get everything ready.
Then, it hit Stacey.
Nick was Judy’s massive crush.

Judy smiled and sat next to her. “Did you enjoy your birthday?”

She widened her smile. “It’s becoming one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had in my life.”
Judy raised a brow and got interested. “And why is that?”
Stacy happily sighed. “Because for once… I found someone who actually cares about my interests and acknowledges my feelings and skills.”
Judy was a bit confused. “Oh, really?”
