Chapter Text

“My radiance? Where are you?” He hurried down the halls of Heaven’s court searching for the missing Archangel, for the last he saw of him they had shared a sentimental moment.

Yet, only a second later Gabriel had crumpled to his knees, gasping with very little breath left in his body. They both knew what was coming, and they couldn’t do a thing to prevent- Hell, even slow it down for even a second.

His footsteps echoed throughout the desolate halls with panic taking over the frantic husk, searching desperately for his radiance; Ferryman just wished to see him one more time, even if it was in his last moments.

…And he heard the weak groans emanating from the auditorium just ahead. Without a single second to waste, Ferryman made a mad dash into that accursed, blood-stained auditorium and found Gabriel lying beneath a dusty crater within the domed roof as the silver stars shone upon the fading archangel.

“G-Gabriel!” He weakly looked over to the Ferryman  and if it wasn’t for the heavenly cloak which only hid a deadpan skull underneath it, Gabriel would be able to read the worry plastered upon the husk, yet his voice was just enough.

“My radiance.. It is too soon, t-this cannot be happening..” Ferryman fell to Gabriel’s side as his arms trembled to hold up Gabriel.

Ferryman held the wounded Gabriel in his arms. The last of his light was clearly fading quickly.

Gabriel was cold and sopping wet in his own blood, it pooling at his feet.

“Ferryman. We both know I haven’t long” Gabriel murmured with the last of his energy.

“Thank you for everything. I shall be remembered as more than a traitor by at least one”

And Gabriel took his final breath. His halo had finally faded and his armour duller than ever. His body lay limp in the arms of his only ally

The Ferryman weeped, for the first time since he had met Gabriel. He cried and cried over the corpse of his saviour, his lover, his friend.

Ferryman could now feel how Cain felt, carrying the corpse of Abel. Gabriel was surprisingly light, or maybe the Ferryman was stronger than he thought. Yet, it doesn’t matter.

Gabriel lay still within his arms, now resting in an eternal slumber with the one he loved, the one he saved all those aeons ago. Ferryman could already hear the distant murmuring of Heaven’s residents, eager and confused, still most likely reeling from the dethroning of the Council.

Ferryman took great care and slowly revealed himself upon the balcony, as the world went silent and still. Not a single soul moved or spoke, only looked on with solemn lament upon the fallen archangel. He carried the corpse upon the steps and laid down his radiance like handling glass.

Where would one go if they died, especially one as magnificent and holy as Gabriel? Would the universe rebirth him or curse his soul into the Ocean Styx? Those were Ferryman’s first thoughts looking down at Gabriel now, wavering and wanting to turn back, yet he couldn’t.

His second thought? One which pained him to his very heart, even he was missing one. A thought Ferryman wished he never had to deal with, yet had to at this very moment; one that Gabriel would want to hear if he still breathed.

‘Goodbye, my radiance. I shall miss you dearly like the forever gone stars that had departed with you.’

He turned from the balcony, allowing Heaven to decide what to do with his radiance. Ferryman only wished they’d be kind to his soul.
