The thing is, Cellbit could kill him. Pac knows this better than he knows the back of his own leg (ha, ha.) Cell could kill him, and despite all he’s waxed poetic in that book of his, Cellbit could, too. One precise slice of his serrated knife, the one he’s had since prison, and Pac would be a goner. The only reason Cellbit doesn’t kill him, really, is because he doesn’t want to.
That’s a terrifying thing for Pac to hinge his hope on. Terrifying and exhilarating; the kind of exhilarating way you watch a train crash, the way you couldn’t stop if you tried.
