We’re here to support writers and readers alike—whether you're filling a card square by square, cheering on others, or discovering your next favorite fic. All fandoms, pairings, and ratings are welcome. This is a space for creativity, collaboration, and connection.

What is Square by Square?
-Square by Square is a multi-fandom Discord community for writers and readers who enjoy bingo challenges, prompt events, and fanfiction fests. We’re here to connect, encourage, and inspire—whether you’re writing 100K words or reccing your favorite fluff fic.

Do I have to be a writer to join?
-Nope! Readers, reccers, beta readers, and fandom cheerleaders are all welcome. Some of our bingos are open to either creating fanworks or reading/reccing existing ones.

What kind of bingos do you run?
-We host low-pressure, themed bingo challenges—usually on a 3x3 or 5x5 card. Each square contains a creative prompt, and you can fill them with fic, art, meta, or recs (depending on the event).
-Cards are non-fandom-specific unless noted, and all pairings, tropes, and genres are welcome—as long as they follow our content guidelines.

Can I use old works to fill a card?
-This depends on the event! Some bingos allow older works or WIPs, others are for new creations only. Check each challenge’s guidelines or ask in the server!

Is there an AO3 collection?
-Yes! Our current and past events are hosted under the AO3 collection: 🔗 Square by Square
-Works submitted for our events can be added to the relevant collection linked in each challenge announcement.

How do I get a bingo card or participate?
-Join our Discord server to claim a card, track your progress, and hang out with other participants! We post announcements, run writing sprints, and have channels for snippet sharing, encouragement, and recs.

What fandoms are allowed?
-All fandoms are welcome! Whether you’re into a single ship or multi-fandom chaos, canon-divergent epics or slice-of-life fluff, you have a place here.

📜 Ao3 Posting Rules — Square by Square
To help us keep our events organized and inclusive, please follow these rules when posting your works to the Square by Square AO3 collection:

✅ General Guidelines
-Works must be created for or used to fill a Square by Square challenge (bingo, fest, or prompt event).
-Please tag your work appropriately (fandom, rating, warnings, pairings, etc.).
-Use content warnings where applicable, especially for NSFW or potentially triggering material.

🧩 Bingo-Specific Rules
-You may fill one square per work, unless the challenge allows combo fills (check the Discord announcement).
-Be sure to note the prompt and square you’re filling somewhere in the work notes.
-If you're filling a square with a rec list or meta post, link to it and explain your format.

🖋️ Reader-Friendly Options
-If your challenge allows it, you may fulfill a square by:
-Writing a rec list or themed rec set
-Leaving detailed comments or reviews (summarized and shared)
-Creating meta or fan playlists (see event guidelines)

⚠️ Content Boundaries
Square by Square supports creative freedom, but we ask that participants avoid the following unless clearly canon-related or necessary for character- or fandom-specific context:
-Necrophilia
-Bestiality (non-sentient creatures)
-Cannibalism

If your work involves these themes in a fandom-consistent way (e.g., zombies, vampires, werewolves, mythological contexts), it must be clearly labeled with appropriate tags and warnings.

🏷️ Tagging & Collection Use
-When submitting a work, please add it to the correct Square by Square collection (e.g., Square by Square - May/June 2025 Bingo).
-Include the event tag in your work if provided (we’ll share that in each challenge).

❗ Respect Ao3 & Community Standards
-No plagiarized content or AI-generated writing.
-Do not post work that violates Ao3’s Terms of Service.
-All NSFW content involving underage characters must be properly aged up and clearly marked.
