    I had to comment on that author’s note: “The globally recognized sport, not the American variety.” That just about killed me.

    As I was reading, I scratched my head over why British kids were playing football instead of something like rugby or soccer…and then promptly recalled the more internationally accepted term for soccer is football.

    All that aside, I’m enjoying your story thus far!

      I knew as soon as I wrote "football" that I needed to clarify. I love American football, but why we took a name that pithily explained a completely different sport and applied it to something that didn't fit it half so well always bothered me.
