I turned it into rather more of an angstbomb than you perhaps were looking for NO YAY it was definitely a pretty angsty prompt! Poor Lost Charles (and Hank). Thank you so much for writing this for me! It's really lovely and just as tragic as the canon calls for, really.
Charles's dreams are so poignant here--so sad for him to be left with nothing but his own mistakes (and the fact that the universe punished him so harshly for them) to dwell on. And I love Hank--trying his best, but still insecure and unsure. You can really see where the sad codependency they had by DOFP came from.
Once, giving up would have seemed unthinkable. Now, all he feels is relief-- no, release, like a vise easing from around his heart. Ohh, Charles :'(
If four years of silence, his own paralysis and a murder conviction haven't burned Erik from his heart, he's beginning to suspect nothing will. Oof. Ohh, these two :( Thank you again for this!
