It's not currently possible to set up a non-reciprocal challenge, but one of our coders is working on a prompt meme style challenge right now! It's likely to be a little while before that functionality is finished, but it is in the works.
In the meantime, you could indeed set a challenge up with optional things to be filled in the way you describe - this is similar to the way Yuletide is set up, in fact. You can get in touch with our Support team if you need more help doing this!
Okay, clarification because a Yuletide type thing wasn't exactly what I was getting at. So for example a person would get four prompts, but all four prompts would be from different people. The person would only be required to fill prompt #1 with the other three as optional fills, but they had to fill #1 or be considered a defaulter. This would be because #2-4 would be someone else's #1 and #1 may well be someone else's optional fill. Whereas with Yuletide all the prompts come from the same person.
What you're describing isn't possible at the moment, no. However, the challenges functionality is really a work in progress (we started with the basic gift exchange functionality because it covers a lot of common aspects), so we do plan to introduce a lot more features. I've passed your comments to our coders so that they can consider the kind of functionality you're looking for as they continue to develop the challenges function.
