Comment on OTW Board response to concerns about the meta decision

    Thank you for your response. Now the questions for me as an AO3 user and OTW member remain:

    * When can we expect a type/medium/genre category that separates fiction, nonfiction, vid, art, audio, and I guess, other for Dalek cookie recipes and Griffindor scarves... ? How long will we add further stress on the largely inefficient search tools (and, oh, do I miss Automated Archive with all its limited and limiting rigid categories!) while now allowing more types of fanworks?

    * For that matter, why couldn't the board have decided to disallow new meta (not punishing the already uploaded material and retaining the ideological statement that nonfiction are fanworks as well) until the proper filtering tools are in place?

    * Finally, what is the process at the moment regarding nonfiction uploaded to the AO3, given that all the concerns over what is included/excluded are only starting to be discussed? Will everything stay up until decisions are reached?

    One last thing as a podficcer and fannish nonfiction writer: I am somewhat upset that you seem to basically equate inability to host and getting C&D orders with "failing archives and discontinued blogging platforms." Vidders and podficcers in particular face pretty serious threats in being able to share their work, and while the archival aspect of the archive (keeping our collective history alive) is important, the more imminent concern for us, I hope, should be the ability to safely share (and hopefully even host) creative fanworks that are actually endangered rather than those who happen to be on discontinued blogging platforms and could be shared many other places instead. Also, I'm curious about the meta art and vids that wouldn't have already been seen as fan art and fan vids and thus not actually been at issue at all.

      I am somewhat upset that you seem to basically equate inability to host and getting C&D orders with "failing archives and discontinued blogging platforms." Thank you, this has been bothering me as well.
