Comment on OTW Board response to concerns about the meta decision

    Refusing to host meta and waiting until we have sufficient code for works types would unduly punish users who have already posted meta works in good faith.

    I'm not sure why the fact that some people have been posting in "good faith" (and at your encouragement at that) is adequate reason to punish people who have been abstaining from posting and making the archive experience difficult for other users in equally "good faith" and hoping for AO3 functionality before they strain user interface, but if AO3 is actually serious about eventually putting fanwork type categories in place in the archive, and it's not just a case of Tomorrow Never Comes, then how is the archive going to eventually correctly categorize all those works which are being put up in the current not-supported-by-code paradigm of the archive?

    Are there going to have to be volunteers manually going through entire fandom worklists and doing this, once the categories are out in place? Or these "good faith" uploads going to languish in the uncategorized (or "fic") category unless their authors go back and manually change them?

    Also, unrelated to the meta question, but I have been avidly following last post (no matter how difficult that is, what with lack of a view=flat function) and I can't help but notice that ratcreature's extremely pertinent and franky worrying reveals about Fanlore's fanart use policy, have remained unanswered by anyone on the board. I realize that this is AO3 not Fanlore, but since OTW forums are still just a pipedream, I feel this is the best venue for a public Q&A. Well, Qs have been raised for sure, now it would be nice to have some As too.

      The AO3 might not be the OTW but the OTW Communications Co-chair has been replying to comments here, and the head of the Fanlore Comittee has made a post stating they read the comments but didn't actually reply in-thread. It's fair to say they probably just don't care.
