Her and Jun were both explicitly intended to have Slavic accents and were, according to cross referenced wiki crawling, both born on the colony of New Harmony. A frustratingly vague implication of ethnic identity, from the standpoint of me, someone who obsesses over details. My working model is that Kat is of Ukranian Descent, mostly for no greater reason than that my own grandfather was Ukranian, and that Jun is of Russian descent.
