This feels like it's exactly what happened. The way you've captured the feelings that accompanied Charles' descent into self-pity and despair is completely believable. The emotions are so raw.
This is such a beautiful piece of writing. I particularly love Charles' reflection on the strength of his love for Erik; that is seems nothing is able to remove the man from his heart.
